A cup of coffee for you!

It's been a long time, Captain (or is it Major now?)

I'm slowly easing back into WP after a relative hiatus due to overwork. You're really tearing up the place. Congratulations. It's an honor to know you. :) Neopeius (talk) 04:51, 27 July 2023 (UTC)

Hey Neopeius! Still a Captain (but I am selected for Major and expect to promote next summer). Definitely enjoying being a WP:WIKIGNOME, but looking for my next Wikipedia goal after getting Space Shuttle, Challenger disaster and Columbia disaster to FA. Glad you are getting back into it! Twisted Metal

Hi Balon Greyjoy,

I was hoping if you saw my message about Twisted Metal. I said that you needed to have more words that is between 100 to 200 words for the episode 9 summary. I also give you some ideas such as naming their car Roadkill and Mike convincing Stu that Sweet Tooth is not his friend and that he could kill them in order to fit the 100 to 200 word length. Hope that helps. Mxhyn16 (talk) 18:27, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

@Mxhyn16: As I understand MOS:TVEPISODELIST, the 100 to 200 words is a guideline but not a requirement, as the wording is a "summary of the plot can be included and should be brief (100–200 words), but complete". You are free to improve, rewrite, and expand the plot summary, but not meeting 100 words is not reason alone to remove it. Balon Greyjoy (talk) 22:07, 12 August 2023 (UTC)

August 2023

Information icon Hello. Regarding the recent revert you made to Michelle Collins: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template index/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. -Lemonaka‎ 06:44, 18 August 2023 (UTC)

regarding the battle of the trench

Hi, there was edit made by an Islamaphobe user by the name of Kaalakaa that falsely accused the Prophet Muhammad of having raiding and plundering caravans and falsely claiming that the battle was a Quryash victory.

For the date of the battle, the Hadith of the battle taking place in Shawwal 5 AH was used as the evidence for the date of the battle.

As for my other edits, Wikipedia only allowed me to edit section by section (I think its because I am on mobile) and that had caused duplicate sections to exist in the article. I tried to delete them but due to mobile and Wikipedia I could only delete section by section.

I hope that explains everything. Chxeese (talk) 01:40, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

If could revert your edit and also delete anything past the External links section of the article, that would be great. Chxeese (talk) 01:46, 19 August 2023 (UTC)
I reverted my previous edit. Balon Greyjoy (talk) 01:51, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

Restricting Kaalakaa's editing

I have noticed that Kaalakaa has done what was listed above on numerous articles regarding Islam.

Between May 25 and May 31st of 2023, he attacked the article on Quraysh, again bring the galse claim if Prophet Muhammed raiding Quraysh caravans.

As well, on the 31 March 2023, he did the same on the Invasion of Banu Qurayza, removing that the Tribe of Banu Qurayza had betrayed the Prophet Muhammed in the Battle of The Trench.

It is clear that this person has an Anti-Islamic bias, and you have more knowledge on Wikipedia than I do. Is it possible to restrict his account to edit articles relating to Islam? Chxeese (talk) 13:47, 19 August 2023 (UTC)

New pages patrol newsletter

Hello Balon Greyjoy,

New Page Review article queue, March to September 2023

Backlog update: At the time of this message, there are 11,300 articles and 15,600 redirects awaiting review. This is the highest backlog in a long time. Please help out by doing additional reviews!

October backlog elimination drive: A one-month backlog drive for October will start in one week! Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles and redirects patrolled. Articles will earn 4x as many points compared to redirects. You can sign up here.

PageTriage code upgrades: Upgrades to the PageTriage code, initiated by the NPP open letter in 2022 and actioned by the WMF Moderator Tools Team in 2023, are ongoing. More information can be found here. As part of this work, the Special:NewPagesFeed now has a new version in beta! The update leaves the NewPagesFeed appearance and function mostly identical to the old one, but updates the underlying code, making it easier to maintain and helping make sure the extension is not decommissioned due to maintenance issues in the future. You can try out the new Special:NewPagesFeed here - it will replace the current version soon.

Notability tip: Professors can meet WP:PROF #1 by having their academic papers be widely cited by their peers. When reviewing professor articles, it is a good idea to find their Google Scholar or Scopus profile and take a look at their h-index and number of citations. As a very rough rule of thumb, for most fields, articles on people with a h-index of twenty or more, a first-authored paper with more than a thousand citations, or multiple papers each with more than a hundred citations are likely to be kept at AfD.

Reviewing tip: If you would like like a second opinion on your reviews or simply want another new page reviewer by your side when patrolling, we recommend pair reviewing! This is where two reviewers use Discord voice chat and screen sharing to communicate with each other while reviewing the same article simultaneously. This is a great way to learn and transfer knowledge.

WP:DATEVAR is not optional. On August 12, you manually changed the date format on Celina Mikolajczak from "Use mdy dates|cs1-dates=ly" to "Use mdy dates", changing numeric access dates (a standard date format allowed by MOS) to spelled-out access dates, a different format. At the same time, you used a script to change all the access dates in the source from numeric to spelled out. Do not do that. The script is broken, as should be obvious from your bad changes. The script developer refuses to fix it. As the user of a script, you are the one responsible for the bad behavior of the scripts you run. You should have detected that the script was changing the formats and stopped it from its bad edits. Please be more careful in future. —David Eppstein (talk) 20:38, 11 November 2023 (UTC)

Hello David Eppstein. It was my understanding that dates within citations should be consistent with one another, per MOS:DATEUNIFY, but don't necessarily have to be consistent with the body of the article. Prior to my edits, dates of articles were "mdy" and the access dates were "yyyy-mm-dd". Reading the guidance more closely after your comment, that guidance is specific to access and archive dates. If I remember correctly, I manually removed the cs1 style setting as the access date was not consistent with the date format of the sources and the rest of the article. It was a conscious choice on my part and not an oversight, but I'm happy to defer to your knowledge and experience. Balon Greyjoy (talk) 02:33, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
DATEUNIFY asks for publication dates to all be the same format as each other, and it asks for access dates to all be the same format as each other, but it does not require those two formats to be the same as each other. Otherwise, what would be the point of providing different requirements for what kinds of dates are allowed in these two contexts? I happen to prefer using spelled-out publication dates (to make the reader-facing information more prominent) while using numeric access-dates (to make editor-facing information less prominent). That choice is exactly what "|cs1-dates=ly" specifies. It if was not one of the allowed choices it would not be one of the allowed date template parameters. —David Eppstein (talk) 02:45, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
