hello, I am a bit late to answer but you corrected my edit that the N900 has a pressure sensitive screen. It is indeed pressure sensitive (not just pressure activated) and that's why mypaint (originally made for wacom pressure sensitive tablets) works on it with pressure sensitivity. HELP.

I'm new to wikipedia, well in terms of editing anyways. I was trying to fix the RNA DNA comparison image from your last update, but I can't quite grasp how to do it, i've been all over the help pages and it says simply upload the image with the same name but it won't let me saying that I'm trying to replace a file with the same name, go figure! Well there should be 2 buttons with one saying "save file". That is the one you should click which would allow you to save your image. If you want I can provide you the svg file I created. Do I have to edit the image directly on wiki, as I just saved the image off wiki and edited it? Because I can't see the 'save file' button on the upload file menu. Removal of recipes

Hi, I agree with your removal of RyanGrether's recipes (as they do not belong on Wikipedia). However, in future it would be helpful if you could (at least) explain your reasoning via edit summaries.

The person was a new contributor, and probably well-intentioned if misguided. I put a brief note on his talk page explaining why his recipes had been removed. Perhaps this would also be a useful idea for other newbies if you have to remove any recipes and the like in future.

Howdy. I "found" you through WP:FPC. This a pseudo translation request: In Kevin Rudd, someone added his Chinese name for the purpose of referring to Chinese newspaper articles about him. Hi from me, too. I'm the one who originally raised the question - for the reason that the image has a moire, which suggests (but does not prove) it is a scan, not a photograph. We (i.e. the wikipedians on WP:FPC) don't wish to make any trouble, we just want to know why that photo has a moire pattern over it. Graphics Lab

I saw your name listed on Wikiproject Illustration or the list of graphic artists, and I thought I'd let you know that a Graphics Lab has been created on EN. Based on the highly successful French and German graphics labs, it seeks to better organise and coordinate our graphic design and photo-editing efforts. Up until now, there has been no common space on EN where users could ask for maps, charts and other SVG files to be created. Additional information on the firmware for the PMP device

Hi, thanks for he link to the pmp101 firmware. I tried it, but it did not work... After updating the device, the PC recognizes de device as a usb drive and I can access the mp3 folder and the DCIM folder, but the screen is still black.

Out of the different firmwares that I have tried, one from Neonumeric was the only one one that was able to turn on the screen, but the icons were bigger than normal and you could not really navigate throught the menus... Anyway, do you happen to know any other link to a firmware based on the spca536 chip (no FM, no Camera, 128MB)? Thank you very much for your help.--Fistanes 21:03, 3 September 2007 (UTC)

I have one that's got 512 memory without FM or camera. I think pretty much all the PMP series on here (select MP4 on the left, only works in IE) uses spca536, at least until mine, PMP103. It's a Best Buy Easy Player PMP Flash. I've contacted the company, but they seem reluctant to send me the original firmware. They want me to send the device and they can't even tell me how much it would cost to repair it (since it was a present I do not have the receipt. In any case I believe the warranty already expired) I tried the PMP101, the PMP103 and the PMP103C firmwares and none of them seem to work...--Fistanes 06:06, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

re nav list

I'll look at it later today. I think the reason things are layed out the way they are is so you get that nice larger-tab effect on the highlighted tab. Not sure that would work with a list, but I'll try it after classes today. Also, putting borders in between the items makes it practically impossible to tell which is highlighted- only the current desk's tab should have top and bottom borders. Wow, I have no idea what you did different than me, the colors don't shoot off the right side! yeah I'm aware of floats not working- not only does it align disgustingly, but it looks terrible in IE. Switching to tables happened in the first week of the header because of complaints IIRC. You're really right about it being preferable to switch to lists/CSS in the nav, but I'm still not convinced it's possible. Can you reproduce the effect of the highlighted tab expanding a bit into the space of other tabs? This is extraordinarily difficult to perfect with tables (right now it's a little broken because of a hack to get it to work when I was writing the header/nav/aux code- the highlighted desk name shouldn't shift downward slightly when bolded) and it _should_ be easier with list items but I can see serious complications at the top and bottom of the list. The way you'd pull this off is (off the top of my head) adding pixels of vertical padding and of negative vertical margins to the highlight tab, so it expands without having to mess with the other tabs. Otherwise it's a nightmare to pull off in wikicode. Oh, and nowiki tags were around the colors because the configuration file always evaluates to a single string- in the case of colors this is a # followed by the 3 rgb octets. In this case obviously it looks like a single item ordered list, so when you transclude it, it tries to transclude the code for a list. Don't believe me? Here's a simplified test- the text should be red, check out the source. I know a lot of the other code in the header is sloppy, I just finished what could almost be considered the 3rd-generation rewrite since it's a drastically different model... it's not pretty because I had to write the entire thing live. Before the rewrite, the header actually had to be called from one of the desks and it was impossible to have a working model in user space, so half of the code was frantically written in short spurts of hacks to fix a just-horribly-broken live header :) --ffroth 06:35, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. I tried anti-aliasing the image but the paths tool wasn't producing the intended result: either it removed the entire image, or it didn't allow erasing of the unwanted parts, or the anti-alias was temporary, or sometimes the paths tool dissapeared when I clicked on another tool, or the shift+v didn't do anything. We are trying to produce a free globe stand similar to this one, but that's copyrighted. Are there areas that still need to be anti-aliased/improved? Thanks. ~AH1^(TCU) 00:23, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Yea you can't select other tools while doing the path, but why would you need to anyway? If you're having trouble with it I suggest you to do it through layer masks: follow the tutorial up to the "Ctrl+I" part (but don't press Ctrl+I), right click on the active layer, press add layer mask, and in the new dialog select "selection". Of course, you need to do that from scratch, on the source images. You can't anti-alias something that's already aliased. --antilived^{T | C | G} 01:05, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Mobile phones

Thanks for answering my question on the Reference Desk about mobile phones with good web access (especially for Google Maps). It was just a little over my head, though. How would I look for 3G mobile phones that are J2ME compatible? Are "3G" and "J2ME" terms that the average mobile phone salesperson in the US is likely to understand? Will those terms appear in the specs of phones (available in the US) advertised online? Do you know if SIM cards for 3G phones running J2ME are readily available in the UK? Are certain phones better suited for use in both the US and the UK than others? If you don't know, do you know how I might research this? Thank you once again! J2ME basically means the ability to run Java apps on mobile phones. Pretty much all mobile phones support it (unless you're using BREW or things like that). In addition to Java Google Maps Mobile also come in native varieties for phones that support native applications, such as Symbian and Windows Mobile. But you don't have to care about whether you have the right version, just go to [2] on your cell phone and you will be automatically directed to the right version. Just to double check you can go on sites like [3], look up your phone, and it will say in the specifications whether it supports Java MIDP(J2ME) or whether it supports 3G network. For global use I would get a GSM/UMTS(3G) phone as that has the biggest range of mobiles and works in the most area. According to List of UMTS networks there are a few networks with UMTS networks that operates on 2100Mhz in the UK, but only 1 network in the US and it operates on 850/1900Mhz. Most 3G phones nowadays are already tri-band but you should double check just to be sure. There is absolutely no way such stuff can be kept in the article - it obviously being mere CCP propaganda - stuff that has no acceptance in the academic community - sourced directly from a CCP propaganda website.

Such propaganda has been strongly criticize by all independent, academic sources on the subject and also by HR organizations - including Amnesty and HRW. K-M reports mention such propaganda pushing by the CCP. The Western standard has reported on it.

The RSF has Published a detailed report on CCP propaganda and the extent to which it manufactures things to push its propaganda.[4]

Please note that judged by wikipedia standards, your edits count as blatant vandalism - in complete violation of WP:RS, WP:N and WP:V . It is not an academic study. A lot of propaganda from CCP has appeared on Hong Kong based news channels. We cannot use any of those in the article - because it not only has no standing within the academic or the human rights community - but is also severely criticized by them. Hong Kong news channels have carried news saying Dalai Lama is a CIA sponsored anti-china spy - could we add it into the article on Dalai Lama? Obviously not - that a hong kong news channel ran a video made by CCP, absolutely does not lend it legitimacy. The views must have at least some standing and acceptance in the academic community. The video being allowed to interview people whom western media is not allowed access to - in itself - speaks of the vitiated and propagandistic nature of the piece. Who made the video, what are the international experts on the field such as Kilgour and Matas' views on it, has it got any Notability , why doesn't it interview any of the internationally renowned experts on it? I dont think its rocket science stuff to figure out the video is a mere propaganda piece - which no notability in the academic or human rights community.

Kilgour and Matas have been denied entry into China despite repeated requests. US consulate has said that though it was unable to find evidence during the tour in the specific case of sujaitun, "[i]ndependent of these specific allegations[of sujiatun], the United States remains concerned over China’s repression of Falun Gong practitioners and by reports of organ harvesting."

You may also want to read through the article: According to a 2006 Congressional Executive Commission report, Huang Jiefu, China's Vice Minister of Health, had indicated in July of 2005 that as high as 95% of organ transplants in China derive from execution.[15] The report states that circa 65% of "capital offenses" in China are for nonviolent "crime".

You can do a google on Kilgour or Matas. Amnesty Internation, UN special rapporteur on torture, international medical societies, all have raised acute concerns following the Kilgour Matas reports. Yale university thesis based on financial analysis, undercover sky news reports, all have corroborated KM reports. Needless to say that is an example of something that carries 'notability'. International governments have changed their poilcies, australian hospitals stopped training chinese surgeons on transplant surgery. Thats why KM reports are notable and a worthy source for the article. A chinese CCP propaganda piece that aired in hing kong making wild claims and filming scripted interviews is by no means a neutral source, neither does it satisfy WP:V

How is the statistic of 95% of the organ donations came from executed prisoners relevant to here I don't know, perhaps you are trying to imply a majority of them are FLG practitioners? How ARE any of the claims wild anyway? That a 200-bed hospital simply doesn't have the facility to house 6000 people without causing chaos, or that neither of the hospitals mentioned in the report are capable of doing organ transplantation (it's not just cutting it out from someone and slapping it into someone else, you know)? Since the reports various legislations and standards had been put in place by the government, as documented in the programme. Are those less notable than some Australian hospital refuse to train Chinese surgeons, other than it being less sensational? I was kind of wondering about that too. But it isn't a "simple vectorization" that is the original file I made, I don't have any other one to add. (As I said "This is NOT the original image produced by Watami") And many famous illustrators on Wiki Commons talk about using something as a base for their original work. I belive the actual Watami menu differs quite substantially from the vector image you mentioned. (The menu also has no copyrighted logo marks or anything on it, of course.) Organ harvesting

There are people who are so blinkered that they wouldn't know WP:NPOV if it hit them in the face although they can quote it and throw it at you like their own gospel. This is particularly the case with Falun Gong single-purpose accounts. Quite often, there is just no talking to them because they just shut their ears when you say something they do not want to hear. From all the research I've read, this trait is pervasive to FG practitioners. Why brackets

In China Marine (memoir) I put the section titles in brackets since they don't reflect any of his chapter names. The book has a lot of chapters of varying length which really look like they were just stuck in by an editor after Sledge died. MB vs MiB

In Ubuntu (operating system) you commented why do we need to specify how many bytes there are when we can use MiB and the like? And choosing between sever and desktop doesn't mean you're locked into CLI/GUI. The answer can be found in WP:COMPUNITS. MiBs is not correct as per Ubuntu's specs. And the guideline is to explain the units so even if you use MiBs you would have to explain that it's 1000³. It was news to me too. Don't know what the current signature policy is but images weren't allowed to be used in signatures the last time I looked at it (although I have seen a few image-based signatures). Without the use of images maybe something like Socks ⁰¹ or Socks ⁰¹, depending which colour scheme you want. The rounded border won't work on older IE browsers but most other modern browsers should support it. I tried to skew the signature to make it look like the logo but it doesn't seem to work on inline elements. Here's the code with block elements if you want to try it, but you'd have to change the width if you change the content of your signature.

Invitation to an in-person meetup in Mohua / Golden Bay

Golden Bay Air are holding some seats for us until 21 November

Thinking about your summer break? Think about joining other Wikipedians and Wikimedians in Golden Bay / Mohua! Details are on the meetup page. There's heaps of interesting stuff to work on e.g. the oldest extant waka or New Zealand's oldest ongoing legal case. Or you may spend your time taking photos and then upload them.

Golden Bay is hard to get to and the airline flying into Tākaka uses small planes, so we are holding some seats from and to Wellington and we are offering attendees a $200 travel subsidy to help with costs.
