Hello, friend![edit]

Welcome to English Wikipedia! I caught your "Unity Ride" piece in the new articles queue and just wanted to drop you a quick line to thank you very much for your contribution to English Wikipedia. I hope that you will continue to write more articles on bicycle-related topics, historic and current. I additionally hope that you'll become active adapting historical content from Latvian Wikipedia to English Wikipedia and vice versa, assuming that you are fluent in Lettish.

Anyway, thanks again for your contribution and if there is anything I can ever do to help you with Wikipedia editing methods or site protocols, please do not hesitate to leave a message for me on my "talk page" by clicking the link that follows my name. —Tim Davenport, Corvallis, OR, USA /// Carrite (talk) 13:46, 11 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again Ance. OUr "Articles for Creation" system at English Wikipedia is broken, there is a huge backlog and sometimes the people making the judgments of whether article topics are compliant are only guessing (and they guess wrongly). I looked over the Latvian version and it seems like it would be compliant with our rules. We basically need two or better three pieces of independently published coverage of a topic which is presumably reliable and which deals with the subject in a substantial manner. So if there are books or magazines or newspaper articles in Latvian or English about the G. Ērenpreis bicycle factory, it will be fine for English-WP. One thing I will say is that you will need to include a notice on the talk page of the article that the Latvian version included the contributions of someone connected by the company. You should also mention that you are not so connected (or if you are connected, identify that connection). We are trying to better identify commercial connections like this and it is grounds for an account to be blocked if they do not identify financial conflict of interest in that manner.
Also, please do be sure to include page numbers. After looking at your "Unity Ride" piece, it seems that you have omitted them from a couple footnotes. If there is a way for you to fix that, it would be a very good thing; if not, just remember it for next time. Please let me know when you are getting ready to launch the G. Ērenpreis bicycle factory article on English Wikipedia and I will help to make sure it goes smoothly for the piece. There is also going to be a requirement that some sort of link be made to the edit history of the Latvian piece, so be sure to mention the origin and include the full URL of the "Revision history" of the Latvian version in your first edit summary: https://lv.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gustava_%C4%92renpreisa_velosip%C4%93du_fabrika&offset=&limit=500&action=history
Thank you again for your work! best regards, —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 15:07, 12 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New Article[edit]

Hello again! Nice work on the new piece! I have polished up the grammar just a little and put the piece into something that more closely looks like English-Wikipedia's form. The most important style note is that we do not link dates 1942 etc. We made a community decision to stop doing that about 5 or 6 years ago, or else the Manual of Style gnomes made the practice extinct.

Whenever you are ready, just start an English Wikipedia article called G. Ērenpreis Bicycle Factory (punctuated like that — we capitalize company name, even for translations of company names where this is not the typical practice). Be sure to link the original edit history by putting something like "Adapted from the Latvian Wikipedia, original edit history at: https://lv.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Gustava_%C4%92renpreisa_velosip%C4%93du_fabrika&offset=&limit=500&action=history " as your edit summary. And again, be really sure to make a note on the article talk page that you have translated a piece from the Latvian WP which included the contribution of what appears to be a company employee. Actually, no, this is a long-defunct company, so it can't be a company employee who wrote the piece. A user name confused me.

Let me know as soon as it is up and I will make sure it gets the hidden "approved" link clicked.

Thanks again for your terrific work! (If you don't like any of my changes or think I have got something wrong, feel free to change stuff back!) —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 16:20, 19 February 2015 (UTC) Last edit: Carrite (talk) 16:29, 19 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ance P., I've made a quick copyedit of the G._Ērenpreis_Bicycle_Factory article; fixing up (what I believe are) some minor grammatical mistakes. The same as Carrite's comment above, if you don't like any of my changes or think I have got something wrong, please feel free to change stuff back! I hope I was able to help in some small way. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 13:09, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hey, that looks good! If you want to try to get some graphics up for that piece we can work on that. The photo rights people are very, very picky and things have to be done exactly right. I think the picture of the factory on the Latvian WP is very good but am not clear the source of the image and that might be a problem. If you have a picture you have taken yourself of an Ērenpreis bicycle, for example, that would be an excellent illustration and and easy one to get put up in the article. Thanks again for your great work! —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 16:16, 23 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

G. Ērenpreis Bicycle Factory[edit]

Hi Ance P., I just wanted to send a quick thanks for all your work on the G. Ērenpreis Bicycle Factory article. I think it's a great little article, covering an interesting aspect of both Baltic & bicycling history, and a fantastic addition to the English Wikipedia. I also like your recent addition of the "head badge" images which really give a sense of the history of the factory. - Ryk72 'c.s.n.s.' 10:05, 3 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Looks good. I made two very minor tweaks. You might consider adding one line to the lead section of the article indicating why in particular he was important — "Ērenpreis's bicycles were ridden by a generation of elite bicycle racers in Latvia." or something like that. More good work by you, thank you! —Tim /// Carrite (talk) 15:49, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
