Plantains or tostones?[edit]

Interesting... Thanks for clarifying that! I've edited the article to reflect what you described. Please have a look and make sure I got it right. -SCEhardt 13:31, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Cutting down the Hugo Chavez article's size[edit]

OK. I agree. You guys are absolutely correct, and I put back the verylong boilerplate. Feel free to remove any content you need to from the Hugo Chavez article. I just ask that the content that you remove goes somewhere — into a daughter article (a daughter article is , as you said, just a linked article), a new article, etc. Please don't just delete content without first putting a copy of it in some other article. If you do the deletions, I'll back you guys up in case you are accused of vandalism or are reverted. Have fun. Regards, Saravask 15:44, 26 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please continue with condensation and deletion[edit]

I just forgot that you were still planning to delete. Please delete any irrelavent and redundant material. I'll add back small pieces I think are necessary in order to maintian comprehensiveness, but the article is still too long. By the way, this article is only undergoing peer review, not FAC. Please put comments on the peer review page. Thanks. Saravask 07:59, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

How to revert[edit]

Anagnorisis, just follow the directions at Wikipedia:Revert. Look under the directions for "non-admins" (which describes you). Then you can revert vandalism too. Whatever that guy intended to do, what he actually did would be considered Vandalism, unlike the deletions you are doing, which are very helpful. Salutes. Epa[edit]

--Oscar 16:26, 6 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Arindam Chaudhuri[edit]

I noticed you had marked this Arindam Chaudhuri article for speedy deletion. My response is in the article's Talk page. - Ganeshk 21:29, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Miss Saigon[edit]

Hello, I left a message for you on Talk:Patpong. Cheers, AxelBoldt 22:07, 7 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Endurance[edit]

Nice work on the Endurance (1912 ship) article. Are those photos Frank Hurley ones? I think he was the only photographer of note on board. If so you can use the {{PD-Australia}} license for them. Nomadtales 01:10, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Apologies[edit]

It is sad that the Hugo Chavez was not balanced enough between personal and political to the extent that you could not give strong support. I just cannot find any additional information on his personal life, even after looking through books and combing dependable web resources. All I have found that could possibly be added is material from his interviews where he professes a deep love for his grandmother (his visits to her house, his continual worry that she would die while he was away) as well as other subjective remarks made by Chavez about his pride in his racial features (curly hair, etc.). I cannot even find the birthdate of his children. Before, I have added large amounts of material about is sculpting, baseball career, Christian faith, etc. to the article. But right now, for the life of me, I just cannot find any other details. Maybe you have suggestions about good sources on Chavez's personal life that I do not know about? Thank you. Saravask 23:05, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciate your good advice[edit]

Your comments are really helpful in moving this FAC through. Please, if there is any project or pages that you are working on or are devoted to, let me know and I will try and return the favor by making contributions, etc. Don't be afraid. Just ask! Thanks. Saravask 08:33, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

translation needed[edit]

I understand Spanish muy pocito. I can't find which part is the innuendo. Is it where he considers marrying her, or when he calls her "Condolencia"? I added your reference to the footnotes and the corresponding inline ref link the foreign policy section, so all you need to do is to add the vulgar quote to that section. Thanks. Saravask 22:23, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

English version[edit]

Never mind. I just read the English version. I still only see suggestions that she wanted to marry him or "dreams" about him, or sending Fidel or himself to her. Which one is the inflammatory one that should be included? Saravask 22:49, 10 November 2005 (UTC) I just put two remarks in. Saravask 22:55, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Anything else needed?[edit]

All the objectors in the FAC have changed their votes to "support", so I have more time to make the article more balanced between personal and political. What else needs to be added? Regards, Saravask 23:01, 10 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Images in the Chavez article[edit]

This whole thing with the images is giving me a big headache. So many people are saying different things. Just now, someone started adding fair use images again, right after I had to delete them because of an objection to the FAC. I trust your judgment, since you are Venezeulan and I am not. Could you please handle the images and change/delete whatever images you feel necessary? I only know about his life, and I suppose not so much about how he dresses (I've only seen a few episodes of Alo, Presidente! for example). Most of the images are from the Wikipedia Commons, meaning that there are no restrictions on their use. I would think that most of those should be kept, as they show Chavez shmoozing with other heads of state. I also think that there should be at least one picture of Chavez interacting with a crowd, speaking at a lecture, etc., since that is a large part of his presidency. But then again, maybe you know more about these things. Regards, Saravask 02:08, 13 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Images[edit]

I apologize for not answering your messages. I'm looking through your images right now. Like you said, just let me know which ones are bad (and of course, you're free to just add or remove them yourself directly). This isn't just my article that only I can control (although it may seem that way), and its Wikipedia after all. Saravask 09:53, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Image changes[edit]

I just removed the crowd image (I guess it had to go, since it was fair-use also). I also put in one of the images you pasted to my talk page, and remove the red-shirt image where he is at WSF. I like this arrangement now, since there are now zero fair-use images. I do not know about adding the Bush-Chavez picture. I'll ask Bunchofgrapes if it would be fine. By the way, I voted in that attempt to get the Hugo Chavez article to be featured on the Spanish Venezuela portal. I put my reasons, and hope my gringo Spanish is readable. Regards, Saravask 10:10, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

New lead image[edit]

I hope you like the new lead image that I put in—it only took me two hours of web-searching government sites to find (:<O). But seriously, I don't really mind. IMO, this one looks MUCH, **MUCH** better than the UN photo. Thanks for the suggestion. Saravask 11:35, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chavez insult news[edit]

I just put a copy of your comments on the news in the Talk page, where more people can see it. I also hope that my summary in the Foreign policy of Hugo Chávez article is correct. Feel free to add other stuff/comments/news. Thanks. Saravask 17:32, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Acutally, the insult info was just added to the main page as well, since it seemed that if I didn't add it, someone else eventually would. Thanks. Saravask 18:05, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hola.

81.38.60.4 23:51, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

Thanks for the clarification of your vote. By the way, I am still thinking about what you said about the misbalance between excessive treatment of Chavez's political life and not enough about his personal life. Because of what you rightly said (your excellent criticism), I just ordered a 400 page book/biography on Chavez. As soon as I get it (a few days from now), I'll be looking especially for personal affairs, events from his adultery with Herma Marksman, and other details. Then I'll be adding them to the article. Thanks again for that comment; I so you are completely correct now. Also, I'm surprised you haven't gotten any barnstars for your excellent work on Paez, Guaicaipuro, and other Venezuelans. Just wait around, and it will happen ... Saravask 11:09, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

pro-Chavez slant in the article[edit]

The latest voter on the FAC has pointed out pro-Chavez slant in parts of the article. Since I am personally mostly sympathetic to Chavez, I think I am probably blind to this slant. Could you make edits or give advice on how the slant can be corrected? Thanks. Saravask 00:59, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that voter just gave me a message about the slant after I asked her for more details:

"There wasn't any particular section that stood out as being biased (the article is far too good for that); rather it just gave me the vibe of being a little sympathetic. I doubt I could pick out any specific criticisms, which is one reason why I didn't object because of it. Ambi 01:09, 18 November 2005 (UTC)"

If you still feel things need to be corrected, feel free. Regards, Saravask 01:38, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the pro-Chavez slant does need to be corrected as you said, even if there is no objection to it. Do what you feel is best, and I'll go along. Regards, Saravask 19:04, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstars[edit]

I figured you've earned these guys by now at the very least. Keep up the good work on your articles. Saravask 19:14, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I award this Epic Barnstar to Anagnorisis for his excellent efforts designing and authoring Venezuela-related history articles. Congratulations. Saravask 19:14, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I award this Exceptional Newcomer Award to Anagnorisis for his uncanny insight into NPOV and meticulous deletionism, as well as for his exquisitly data-driven, polished, and refined debating style. Saravask 19:14, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Another side note: Would you mind voting on the Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Yuan (surname) FAC candidacy? I have nothing to do with that article, but I just personally think it is an exquisite and exceptional work. Thanks in advance. Saravask 19:30, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I really appreciate your help in making Hugo Chavez an FA. I think there would have definetly been more than one objection if not for your removal of redundant material.
I was just wondering if you had ever thought of the idea of Venezuela (your homeland) becoming a Featured Article. We could try the same approach there, adding sources, building up the text, etc. Let me know whether or not you're interested in this ... Saravask 12:09, 19 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Pro-Chavez bias[edit]

No. That's all right. I just came online a few minutes ago and saw your list of facts, so I figured I should put them in before anything else. We can always edit different sections so that there are no inadvertant edit conflicts, and you can always edit my work in a section after I am done. Thanks. Saravask 00:26, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I need to leave again and probably cannot continue through the list until much later this evening. Now you have chance to chack my edits and do work correcting the bias. Thanks. Saravask 00:33, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Barnstar[edit]

Hey, thanks. I just saw the spinning star and have never seen anything like it! I'll put it up on my user page in a barnstar frame, if you don't mind.
Unfortunately, I felt I needed to remove your insertion into the lead about his ribald speaking style. Looking at the leads of Hitler, Thatcher, or Castro — whoare all expert orators and rhetoricians, I don't think this article should make an exception to the rule. The lead is the place to define what is unique about Chavez, and what that CHavez has done that has had the most impact on people's lives. Hearing someone speak may possibly touch you emotionally for a while, but it does not give you health care, schooling, a new land title, or whatever else that materially impacts your life. Instead what gives thiese things (or so CHavez supporters say)? Democratic socialism, anti-imperialism, etc. Or if we are talking about Bush, we don't mention his speaking style in the introduction (look for yourself). No. Instead we mention the salient policy achievements Bush has put forth. Per this reasoning, I moved your good insertion down into the Coup and political rise" section. But that was the only problem I had with your recommendations so far. I'll start effecting the other corrections. Thank you. Saravask 09:10, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • You have a point with respect to the "Mission Vuelta al Campo" picture. I removed the picture. LOL — wouldn't that be some lovely country to colonize ...

speak style[edit]

I can comromise. I think we should give it either one or two words at most. For example, we can insert the word "ribald", "pugnacious", or "confrontational" (although some of these words are vague. The first paragraph should otherwise be kept as absolutely short as possibel so that no one element swamps the others for attention. I'll think more about what should be done. Thanks Saravask 09:29, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chavez is "bald" now ...[edit]

I inserted the word "bald and" (as in "his bald and radical criticism" into the first paragraph. This is the most NPOV term I could find. "Bald" means that his rhetoric is not finessed, is not covered-up, not concealed. Bald just means that he rants openly, without attempting (at least not usually) to preserve pretensions of diplomacy. Bald also means that he attacks defiantly, without being intimidated. I hope you agree. I don't thin other terms like "defiant", "daring", and "brave" are NPOV. Of course, if you have problems with the new wording, let me know. Thanks. Saravask 09:39, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

E-mail[edit]

It is not a good idea for anyone to send Wikipedia-related email to me. Here's why:

  1. My computer frequently freezes up and crashes when I transfer text between my web browser (where I use Wikipedia) and non-web browser applications, such as e-mail clients.
  2. The university email is monitored, and I don't wan't unrelated material there.
  3. I probably won't be working on this article forever. It would be better if you posted your comments (that you spend so much time writing) to the Hugo Chavez talk page, so that future editors will have access to them, and everyone can see them and help make the changes.
  4. Likewise, if you post commments to the talk page rather than emailing them, it is much less hassle (avoiding freeze-ups, downloading and opening attachments, etc.) to transfer text from one Wikipedia page to another.

I appreciate your understanding. Thanks. Saravask 09:47, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

bald vs. bold[edit]

No. "bald" is the correct word. I think "bold" is a very POV term, suggesting that Chavez is some sort of an atavistic champion marching lock-step bravely into the setting sun and a glorious future and leading his trusting and innocent Venezuelan children behind him, et cetera. LOL. "Bald" on the other hand merely suggests here his "raw" and "uncovered" ranting/rhetoric/whatever. Saravask 09:52, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

:-)

Reversion problems[edit]

I see that you've been reverted many times now by User:Silence. This is unfortunate. We should both be patient — after his editing is done, then we can restore what elements we need in the article. Thanks. Saravask 05:38, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Adan" or "Adam"[edit]

What is the name of Chavez's older brother? You say it was Adan, but I thought a saw elsewhere that it was Adam. I'll put in "Adan" for now, until I get an answer. Thanks. Saravask 06:01, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

"Foreign banks financed Chavez campaign"[edit]

??????????????????!!!!!!!!!!!
Wait. Let me clarify. Did Chavez just apply for loans (to finance his campaign) at a bank which happened to be foreign-owned, just like any other campaigner would? Or did he get this funding as part of foreign meddling.interference? For now, I added the information to the article. But I don't think it belongs in there unless the latter (foreign government interference) was the case. Thanks Saravask 06:57, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hmm. I see ... So since it is illegal, I guess it should stay in there then. I also put in the book reference along with it so that Silence does not have an excuse to revert me *again* (like I just was when I tried to put in a couple of suggestions of yours). Thanks Saravask 07:14, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Chavez is no longer "bald'; he is instead "ribald"[edit]

I just put in the word "ribald" to describe his speaking and politicking style. I hope this answers your concern, since the dictionary definition of "ribald" is "vulgar or indecent in speech, language, etc.; coarsely mocking". I think we both agree that this decribes Chavez's style of doing *everything*, not just speaking. I hope, though, that I do not get reverted *again* by (you-know-who). Thanks. Saravask 22:17, 22 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Silence[edit]

I think we should trust Silence, and let him make any improvements he wishes to. Silence has been around Wikipedia much longer than either of us, and has more experience in these matters. I expect the Hugo Chavez article to feature on the main page sometime around December 10, and this article DOES need improvement, even if it is featured. I think we should both just get out of his way and work on other articles, like I have started to do. Since this article is the only FA dealing with anything Venezuelan or Latino, any improvements attainable should be pursued, full stop. Saravask 02:53, 23 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Some useful links[edit]

I've been told that you're relatively new to Wikipedia, so it's understandable that you aren't yet aware of many of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines; hell, I haven't read them all yet either. You may wish to read the following pages when you have the time, to avoid future conflicts of a similar nature to our recent one. I wish you well. -Silence 05:47, 25 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Appreciations[edit]

Now I just saw that you have made up with Silence. This is good. I still do not know who started it, since we weren't having such ridiculous arguments before Silence came (no blame is intended by this remark, please — for anyone else who may be reading this, I am entitled to have my own opinions without them being analyzed ...).
I'll put in your suggestions later today. Thanks. As for the disagreement, thank God. Let it be forgotten. ← Saravask –

signature[edit]

I see from your signature that you probably didn't understand. Sorry. The way I did it was to click on "my preferences" (you should see this at the top of your page). You should check the box "Raw signatures ...". Then, you should paste some raw HTML code into "Nickname:". I pasted the code "[[user:Saravask|<span style="color:#FF9000;">← Saravask — </span>]]". You yourself could try something like "[[user:Anagnorisis|<span style="color:#FF0000;">← Anagnorisis — </span>]]" or whatever. Be creative. ← Saravask — 00:49, 29 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, from the spanish Wikipedia[edit]

Because this is English Wikipedia, I suppose I have to write in English :D, hello Again Anagnorisis, I saw in the Chávez's talk page that you will start editing and helping there again, I applaud that, we need some help because 3 user are not enough hehe, by the way, you should visit the Venezuelan wikipedians category to see the news, we have initiate a new voting to define the new rules for the promotion of featured articles in the Venezuelan Portal, please visit it and give your opinion and vote!, cya!.

Greetings[edit]

Hello, I believe we've begun the wrong way, I have seen the latest editing u made in Hugo Chavez article in spanish and I'm grateful about it, the user before you made some terrible adds and you actually arranged those into a more balanced content.

I'm wondering if you would like to help me to impove the translation in the articles about Venezuelan states and cities in english (they are kinda poor or insufficient the most times) Rolf obermaier 12:51, 2 December 2005 (UTC) 12:38, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Concerns about the FAC[edit]

I have addressed your concerns. Please take a few seconds to re-evaluate both the article and your vote. Also, I would appreciate it if you refrain from referring to me in the future as "boy". Let us keep this discussion focussed solely on the material at hand. Thank you. ← SARAVASK 06:23, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Uh, that was an old and idiotic comment I made in response to your comment about the need of a picture. I did not assume good faith, as per WP:AGF. I sincerely take it back and apologize; I really did assume it was a point of objection, and was duly outraged. I also take back any other lecturing comments. I don't want my stupid comments to turn this into an epic Silence-Anagnorisis debate. LOL. Thanks. ← SARAVASK 06:39, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your message[edit]

I just got your message about Chavez's binge drinking. So I just removed that sentence. Are there any other concerns? The FAC will probably be ended one way or another by Raul654 early tomorrow (Sunday) morning, so it would be could if we could take care of pro-Chavez POV issues before then.

Also, I just wanted to offer appreciations for your work on the Chavez articles. After this FAC, I am not going to work on the Chavez articles any longer — so I think you should put them on your watchlist, counter the vandalism and pro-Chavez POV, answer peoples' comments on the talk page (like you've already been doing), etc. It will bring you much prestige to manage and be the lead contributor to such featured articles. Heck, someone (not me, I'm too inexperienced) might even make an admin out of you. Regards, ← SARAVASK 18:47, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

About your unexpected 'visit' ;-)[edit]

Hi, I responded on my own page, as is my policy ;-) But just to make sure you find it, since you stumbled upon it by accident, I thought I'd leave you a note as well ;-) Regards, --JoanneB 18:56, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello?[edit]

You still have an outstanding "weak object" vote on the FAC. Now that I've addressed all of your concerns, would you mind either re-evaluating your vote or, if you choose to maintain your object, provide additional concerns I have not addressed? Thank you. ← SARAVASK 19:24, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I didn't mean to by so rude and abrupt. I can't help you polish up the Hugo Chavez article. Please, I think you should finish it up. As fo the "Early life" article FAC, if you see something else you object to, please delete or modify it — I probably wouldn't do as good a job in answering your concerns, and it is much more efficient this way. I think that Raul654 will be going down the list of FACs on very early Sunday morning and count up the votes then. Thanks for your time. ← SARAVASK 20:23, 3 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

BTW, what is the percentage of articles aproved out of those submitted for consideration? I bet way over 50%

It should make you feel better to know that in November, 71 FACs failed and 37 were promoted, meaning that only 34.3% of articles were approved. —Bunchofgrapes (talk) 05:40, 5 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

sos re Chavez[edit]

I'm writing a book for middle grade students about Chavez, for a series on Modern World Leaders. The Wikipedia pages and the sources cited have been great, but I have to do biographical background, and there's little of it to be found in English and I don't read Spanish. It would help if I could read Chavez sin Uniforme, I think. Saravask said you had.

Is there anyway we could speak or communicate not on a public site? I can't pay you (these work-for-hire projcts pay REALLY badly)but perhaps could retrun the favor in some other way. (I've worked as an editor, for instance.

What I feel as though I'm missing is a feel for him as a kid--more about relations with parents, with how he got interested in politics, with how he met his first wife, with his relations with his kids. He discusses the kids a very little in some interviews--

Soemthing I've read says he was injured and that's what wrecked his chance of a baseball career; one site (really dubious) says his mother beat him so badly that his grandmother had to hide him. I don't know what he means when he says that the church portrayed Christ as an idiot. I do know what he means when he sees Christ as a rebel.

I don't have to predict the future in this book--luckily--and I don't have to take sides. I do have to produce some sort of coherent "read" about what it his he's doing politically--as the book is about world leaders, I have to say what kind of leader he is.

Is there any way we could talk? I could give you my e-mail. THANK YOU.

Well, give me your email and we can take it from there. How old are the children in your intended audience? BTW, it is easier to return messages to your page if you sign your message. All you have to do is type 4 of this signs consecutively: ~ as in ~ ~ ~ ~ (without the spaces). --Anagnorisis 15:01, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks-- e-mail is: [email protected] not sure where the 69.3.106.194 15:15, 8 December 2005 (UTC) go, or what function they serve.sorry. The kids I'm writing for are about 12 or 13; the series--it used to be Chelsea House, but it was just bought by Facts on File--it surprisingly sophisticated, though unevenly written. I find him a hoot (I don't like Bush much either. . . )but I can't just write about how he amuses me.I worry that he's just throwing oil money at the poor and I am glad to see someone take care fo the poor but am not sure it makes for a sound long-term financial policy.I think I can see what he MEANS to people--to the rich and to people who look like him. I can't see whether he has a real plan. 69.3.106.194 15:15, 8 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Felices fiestas[edit]

Hola Sr. Anagnorisis. Venex 22:57, 27 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please check this translation?[edit]

Hello, Anagnorisis. If you aren't too busy, I would like to get the opinion of a native Spanish speaker on my recent translation of José Millán Astray (from here). I attempted to do it mostly verbatim, replacing a few idiomatic expressions when necessary. I have a few concerns, which I mention on the talk page. If you have the time, it would benefit the article greatly to be reviewed. Thanks. Bhumiya/Talk 06:45, 6 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. There's no hurry. Fito approved of the overall translation, but there's still one quote I'm not sure of, and it could be an important point. Bhumiya 07:51, 8 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Framnaes[edit]

Hello there. I'm wondering if your article Framnaes is/should/could be merged/become Framnæs shipyard. Personally I would prefer if the shipyard article was separated from Grenland/Hitec Framnæs. Framnæs Mekaniske Verksted AS (check info e.g. here) could then be the main topic in the Framnæs shipyard article. Construction of e.g. Endurance (which is a great article) would then belong in the shipyard article. Any comments on this? --Nordby73 00:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I removed Endurance info from Framnaes, as there is a link on Framnæs shipyard. I also changed a link in Endurance. Hope you agree. --Nordby73 22:00, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Endurance related Norway articles[edit]

Hello again :-) I've checked (some of?) the articles you referred to on my talk page. Great work! As I'm cind of "looking after" the Sandefjord article (you may find more "wikify links" there for Endurance related articles), I had already contributed a bit in some of them. I checked a bit and updated/modified two of the Endurance related articles this evening. --Nordby73 00:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Framnæs shipyard now contains information related to e.g. Endurance and Lars Christensen. Feel free to join in on copy/edit and improvement of Framnæs shipyard (including making related relevant articles). --Nordby73 20:16, 12 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy tag[edit]

Hello! About your speedy deletion tag of Señor Boombox: Using "what links here" would have shown that it was an album by Disco Biscuits. This doesn't mean that there was anything too wrong with the speedy tagging, because the tagger isn't actually required to do so. It's just that an admin has to look at that before deletion, and then can't in good faith delete it as not having any context, since he then has context. I've added the three words of context to the article and a {{stub}} tag. Keep up the good work!

Dlyons493Bot[edit]

Hi Anagnorisis, Thanks for your support. I'm writing to you here because it will be far easier to have this conversation in your good English than in my beginners Spanish. I'm curious as to the depth of feeling a simple Bot has stirred up in the community, with some administrators going to considerable lengths to deny a request for a very limted use of a Bot. Have you any background or is there anything I could read on es.wiki about the possible reasons? I'm also curious as to the reason for the size of es.wiki - I'd have expected it to have more articles given the World importance of Spanish. Is that in any way related to the community's apparent aversion to Bots? Regards, Dlyons493 Talk 21:18, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the reply. What I did was start with data files that can be downloaded from INSEE and loaded those into a local Oracle database I set up on my laptop. I then wrote a Java program to format that data into article stubs. For uploading the resulting stubs, I'm just using the standard pywiki framework. So I'd say myself a program wrote the code and all the bot does is upload it. Dlyons493 Talk

MoS says "no" to quotes in italics[edit]

Quotations There is normally no need to put quotations in italics unless the material would otherwise call for italics (emphasis, use of non-English words, etc.). Indicate whether using the italics in the original text or whether they were added later. For example: "Now cracks a noble heart. Good night sweet prince: And flights of angels sing thee to thy rest!"(emphasis added) Richard Arthur Norton (1958- ) 06:38, 19 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Saludos a un exiliado[edit]

Hola, Anagnorisis.

Hola, Anagnorisis.

Randroide 09:15, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Help needed in the Hugo Chávez article[edit]

I'm contacting you because of some issues with the Hugo Chávez article. I visit the entry regularly, but when I saw it yesterday there were a clean-up and neutrality tags at the top. I did a quick check and it has a much lower quality than when it got its FA status last year. I remember you for doing a lot of work on it. Since you seem like and expert on this topic, could you go and check it. I've already posted some of my concerns at the bottom of the talk page, but a lot of work is needed to save this article and we need your help. Otherwise I will have to candidate it for FA removal, and someone could probably do it earlier if this article does not improve quickly. Thank you. --Enano275 21:31, 20 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SIDA[edit]

Randroide 09:54, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Perdona, Anagnorisis, si te he ofendido. Me entiendes, ¿verdad?. Randroide 16:15, 18 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Caballeros blancos van a hablar con Jimbo[edit]

Escribiste:

Randroide 09:57, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chavista[edit]

I intended to leave you a message, but feared you had given up on the project. Sandy 03:52, 6 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

A new editor walked into the minefield, unaware. Do you have any opinon on this? Sandy 15:28, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
If you don't put in a vote on the talk page, JRSP, SuperFlanker and K4zem will bury the article, and later, the material, claiming "irrelevance". Sandy 15:44, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chavista has been redirected to Chavismo, leaving behind your "pejorative" statement. [3] Sandy 15:25, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I expanded Chavismo, but I was unable to locate anything positive to say about it from reliable sources. I included your "pejorative" sentence there, so a discussion of the redirect would now be more appropriate. Zleitzen is trying to be a helpful editor, and based the redirect on other precedents (I believe): I don't believe he intended to slight anyone's efforts. Sandy 17:25, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I moved the "pejorative" statement to Chavismo. Zleitzen points out that Wiki policy is to redirect articles about adherents to the article about the philosophy, so perhaps now that the chavismo article is complete, the redirect may be better policy. I'm not sure of the precedent, though. Sandy 22:38, 28 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there: I've been spending a lot of time lately in the news archives at my library, and the word the English-speaking media is using most often is Chavezismo. It also turns up in the English version of El Universal. I can give you some samples later (on another computer), but I think it's important to leave that in, as that is the keyword that turns up items on English-speaking news searches. Back later with some samples. BTW, I don't see much hope lately of ever NPOVing or improving the Chavez articles: editors would rather argue and delete than fix and write. Sandy 15:11, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, back with some examples -- actually, the word being used in English is "Chavezism".

Walking into the minefield[edit]

I certainly seem to have stumbled across an ongoing series of Venezuela-related edit wars. I would urge you to oppose to the merger of the Venezuelan-Israeli relations page. I will try to find more information throughout today. In the event that I, along with other editors are unable to find long term information about Venezuelan-Israeli ties, this should be portrayed as a diplomatic dispute. Respectfully, Republitarian 16:21, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the response. The ties with Hugo havent all been bad during his rule. See [8]. The relationship is more than just this one incident, which I think some users may fail to realize, and I can see how they would with the lack of available resources. Respectfully, Republitarian 18:30, 11 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Was Pedro Carmona president? Some editors would like to remove all mention of him as President from the lists and templates on Wiki. Sandy 21:33, 12 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I left you another question there (Talk:Pedro Carmona). If I could get some of these deletionist editors to slow down and talk about things, editing would be much more pleasant :-) Talk on List of Presidents of Venezuela about Lepage: I thought you might have some of the historical context, since you were involved in some of Saravask's work ? Sandy 01:07, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Republitarian finished his work at Venezuelan-Israeli relations, and I placed a long list of items needing attention on Talk:Venezuelan-Israeli relations. If you are able to shed any light, please do ! Sandy 17:22, 13 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge iniative[edit]

The vote is 6 against merging and 5 for merging. Back on August 11 you weren't sure of which way you would vote. I've expanded it as much as I can so this is it until something momentous happens. The last three votes have all been against merging. Please vote (oppose) now. Respectfully, Republitarian 18:18, 23 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much for the oppose vote. Your support in this matter is valued. Respectfully, Republitarian 03:47, 24 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

United States-Venezuela relations[edit]

I think you may be interested in United States-Venezuela relations. It's in a very poor and largely neglected state. Respectfully, Republitarian 14:23, 14 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In this edit summary[9] you stated that "mergers should be discussed first". As you can notice in Talk:Bolivarianism#Merge proposal the merge was proposed on 14 November 3 November. Would you please explain in Talk:Bolivarianism#Merge proposal why you oppose the merger? Thanks. JRSP 21:14, 23 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please check WP:NOT#DEMOCRACY, we are not just voting but discussing about the merger. Could you explain at Talk:Bolivarianism#Merge proposal your reasons for opposing the merger? JRSP 04:44, 26 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hola[edit]

...y en User talk:Randroide/Socialist Republic of the Wikipedia in Spanish User talk:Randroide/Abuse allegations in the Wikipedia in Spanish vamos haciendo un dossier con abusos, que ya he visto varios en circulación.

¿Contestaste a Gimferrer?.

"no sé inglés") y esperanza. --Iqlia 21:05, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Le he escrito donde me dijo. Un saludo. --Iqlia 22:55, 1 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cierto. I created this userbox. The GDR joke in my page it is not very good for a userbox, because you can not explain a complex satire in a userbox.

Protest userboxes should be short and clear-cut. I choose an inverted Cervantes in the left and a hammer and sickle in the right. Other options could be an inverted "ñ" or the hammer and the sickle superimposed over Cervantes. Any ideas?.

This userbox is punchier: More shocking (inverted images catch the eye) for the occasional viewer and goes to the point (hammer and sickle) in a more efficient manner. I suggest you to change the old for the new.

"Popular" is better than "Socialist", because es:Wiki admins use the catchphrase themselves [11].

I will polish the code next week. This is great fun!. Thank you Petronas! (the guy who blocked me).

You wrote:

What I find particularly interesting in that comment is how they say you are a danger (danger to what?

Irony ON

Danger to the whole humankind, Anagnorisis, because, you know?...

  • ...Randroide is Maaaaaaaad [12].
  • ...Randroide has "some paranoid threats" [13].
  • ...Randroide should be "blocked forever" [14] and, probably, caged into some JamesBondesque ultra high-security institution, just to be studied by scientists.

Irony OFF

This "mad" personal attack against me in his user page does not prevent this same user to write this:

I am wondering if this people really does not see their own contradictions. They fail to integrate knowledge, so maybe they really do not "see" their own flagrant contradictions. Maybe they are chemically pure non-integrators.

Do you disagree with them when they say that I am smart?. I understand you. Whe spoke about this months ago: Your role model is Han Solo, mine is Luke Skywalker, and, as Princess Leia said (which picture?): "Han, si sigues siempre huyendo del Imperio, al final no habrá sitio donde esconderse de él"...or something to that effect.

  • ...and deep and subtle meaning.

I am not going to vote, Anagnorisis[edit]

Hi, Anagnorisis.

Would you participate in a poll in the DDR?. No?. Then, what´s the purpose of voting in es:Wikipedia:Comité de resolución de conflictos/Votación?. By Jimbo´s sake, for the same reasons I do not even vote in the spanish elections (only in referenda)!

If one votes there, one is giving credence to a non-functional system. If you vote there, you are implicitly accepting a system which allows and encourages power abuse.

Voting is not going to solve the mess the the Spanish Wikipedia is.

The solution should be a radical option: A fork.

  • Webspace is cheap,
  • ...content is GFDL
  • ...and MediaWiki is free software.

What´s then the point of voting in a unholy place where Hispa is a bureaucrat?. Copy this, Anagnorisis: Any admin in the Spanish wikipedia can be desysoped by Hispa in less time that the time that takes to say "Censorship!".

I appreciate your good intention suggesting me to vote, but I think that voting would be an error. Anyway, I am almost totally retired from the Spanish Wikipedia. I can not see the purpose of working there: Is like being an entrepeneur in Bolivia, Argentina or Venezuela. You have no rights, so your work can be wiped out anytime.

Exiles from es:[edit]

Hi, I'm another exile from es:, I was kicked out by a librarian for documenting their arbitrary operations. Anyway, I was thinking that maybe it was not worth to fight with those people, and decided to open a wiki to write about liberalism, libertarianism, anarchocapitalism, and such themes as economic theory or political philosophy. It's just a prototype, so to speak, but it can grow with the right people as collaborators (in which case I will think more seriously in buying a proper domain name). Orphaned non-free media (Image:Carlos Andres Perez.jpg)[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Carlos Andres Perez.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 09:11, 18 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image source problem with Image:Sonsoles Espinosa.jpg[edit]

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Sonsoles Espinosa.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:05, 15 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Photograph[edit]

Hi, Anagnorisis! Could you please tell me, who made this image?

It's important because of the licensing for German Wikipedia. Thank you--RedSolution (talk) 19:36, 12 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your answer, but that much I knew already. Perhaps you know the terms for an image to be copy-right free in Germany – the photographer has to be dead for at least 70 years. As the majority of the endurance's crew should have died after 1938, it would be very important to know who took the picture originally. I'd be really glad if you could tell me more or whom I could ask. Cheers--RedSolution (talk) 16:05, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Petronas retired[edit]

[18]

Did you know?. I did not. Quite a surprise.

Despite all what happened in 2006, I do not feel happy about it. I feel that my contributions are safer (of course they are) and I feel, to be frank, some relief about that force being outside this project, but to my amazement I do not feel happy at all about Petronas retirement. You know: "Whoever fights dragons too long, becomes a dragon himself". In someone strange way Petronas is part of my life.

Or maybe the incident makes me think about death: All that ellaborate personal page he had, useful links (he had a nice collection of links), discussions, fights... all reduced to digital nothingness.

I wish he is personally fine.

A tag has been placed on Keun-Tshen Goba requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Fair use rationale for File:GuaicaipuroNgB.jpg[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:GuaicaipuroNgB.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Better source request for some of your uploads[edit]

Thanks for your uploads to Wikipedia. There is an issue with some of them, specifically:

You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the images because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the images, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image files themselves. Please update the image descriptions with URLs that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Message delivered by Theo's Little Bot (opt-out) 21:12, 21 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]
