User instruments addition[edit]

I see you added Category:User cello a few days ago. Your contribution is appreciated, but in the future, make sure you get it right (for instance, check to make sure you actually get the result you're supposed to). Please read Wikipedia:Instruments/Adding. In particular, you used the templates intended for the user-page boxes (Template:User whatever) on the category pages (Category:User whatever), and slightly vice versa. Besides not showing what you want on the category pages, it also caused the main category not to be listed properly. Also, the Babel codes (what you give to the Babel or Instrument template) used for the user-page boxes need to be all the same; the generic (non-skill level-specific) one you created used "cel" instead of "cello". I've corrected all of this, of course; I just want to make sure you understand what the problems were.

If the instructions on Wikipedia:Instruments/Adding are difficult to understand, please let me know how they might be improved. You should look at the other categories already there, if you learn more easily by example.

One other thing: {{User cel}} shouldn't exist. It's inconsistent with the rest and therefore useless. Actually, I made a minor error myself: I created {{User cello}}, when I could have just renamed the former one. Now the former will have to go through WP:SD. (And you're the one who needs to list it, by criterion #7 on WP:CSD.) Sorry about that. Ddawson 12:43, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Liturgy of St John Chrysostom[edit]

Hello, thanks for posting the comment on Rachmaninoff's setting of the Liturgy. I also appreciate your starting the article on the Vespers as well and helping fill another gap in Wikipedia's coverage of classical works. When I have the time, I'll post a list of other compositions which, IMHO, deserve Wikipedia entries so that anybody else who's interested can work on turning the redlinks blue. In response to your query on the Liturgy, I suggest that the article begin with a general introduction about its origins, purpose, and the manner of its celebration (maybe you know more about Eastern Orthodoxy or Byzantine Catholicism, but copying over this section of the biography of John Chrysostom could nevertheless provide a good start). Information on the arrangements that composers like Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky (any others?) have made can then follow. Interested to hear your ideas, Defrosted 01:01, 18 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again, glad to hear about your enthusiastic plans for the article. I haven't listened to anything by Gretchaninov but hope to explore some of his music, if recordings are readily available [1], now that you have mentioned him in relation to Rachmaninov. Definitely cover him in the entry on Rachmaninov's Vespers since they studied with each other and belonged to the same late Romantic tradition in Russia.
