Standardizing article format[edit]

Hi Addaick. Your edits in music pages are very much welcome. When you create new articles about a musical composition, you can make them better by following a standard format. I took the liberty of formating two articles you started: Serenade for string orchestra, Op.20 (Elgar) and the Brook Green Suite. Keep up the good work--Atavi 11:17, 4 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Helping Hands[edit]

Thanks (Jmc) to your correction of the page of Serenade for string orchestra,Op.20 (Elgar). Due to I can't find any helping hand, can you please teach me how to add the composer's name beside the music name in the top title? Many thanks! (Addaick 15:10, 16 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]

You're welcome, Atavi. Changing an article's title actually requires moving the article itself. Click on the 'move' tab at the top right of the page and read the instructions carefully.
If you need another 'helping hand', please feel free to ask here. Best wishes. -- Jmc 21:38, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Much thanks to your useful instruction!
  • PS: I am not Atavi!(Addaick 03:00, 17 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Sorry, Addaick - I really have no idea where Atavi came from! -- Jmc 05:00, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Addaick. Please make the necessary changes so that the instrumentation is correct. I am not really qualified to do it myself; I would not know exactly what to write. --Atavi 09:47, 28 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

La Transfiguration de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ[edit]

A tag has been placed on La Transfiguration de Notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done for the following reason:

Book article with no assertion of notability

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet very basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Nyttend 13:34, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It appeared to me to be a book. I don't know about symphonies or whatever this is (I don't work with music articles on purpose), but you need to establish its notability better. Go look at Wikipedia:Notability: it will be able to help you more than this. Thanks for checking in Nyttend 13:49, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

edit summary[edit]

Hello Addaick. The comment in my edit summary was in fact directed at Nyttend (talk · contribs) who earlier requested the speedy deletion of the article as a non-notable book. I removed the speedy deletion request since 1) it's not a book and 2) it most likely is notable enough to have an article. I sugget however that you further assert the importance of the piece, in particular by providing further references to third-party commentary of the piece. Feel free to remove the tag I put on top of the article when you feel that the issue has been addressed and let me know if you have further questions. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 15:18, 1 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry[edit]

I've done the same myself before, it's easy enough to do. I hope I've got the sense of what you were trying to say about tonal harmonies etc reappearing in that piece, I found the sentence as it was rather hard to get my head around. David Underdown 14:27, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Serenade for string orchestra, Op.20 (Elgar)‎[edit]

Sorry, Addaick. I've had to remove your addition of "THIS ENGLAND CD Booklet" as a reference to the 'Serenade for string orchestra' article. There needs to be a clear explanation of why this booklet should be a reference for this article, and details of the CD need to be provided. Thanks for your interest in Elgar! -- Jmc 20:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Autoblocks[edit]

Hi, thanks for notifying me. Unfortunately we can't know whether or not the block will trigger some other accounts. This is intended for privacy reasons. I apologize for the inconvenience and should I block this account again, I'll try not to activate the autoblock. Cheers! -- lucasbfr talk 12:53, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, without going into too much details, we can either choose not to block the other accounts from the same IP when we block (but in 99% of the cases, we do want to do this since most people don't share their IP), or lift the autoblock once someome complained about being blocked and having nothing to do with the vandal. Right now the other users of this IP are no longer blocked. -- lucasbfr talk 13:48, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re: SineBot[edit]

Actually, that was SineBot that edited your talk page. It was because a user with the user name "Cholga" added a comment to your talk page see here, the stuff on the right), but he/she forgot to sign it to say who left it, so my bot signed it so that you know who left it and when (see here, the stuff on the right). No worries, you did nothing wrong. :) --slakr 01:51, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orient Thai Airlines[edit]

Under what circumstances can be stated as a incidents or accidents? I apologise that is an incident, sorry. (Addaick 13:32, 24 August 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hi, and thanks for writing. It's great to hear from a teen in Hong Kong! As to your question, if I understand you correctly, you are asking about the differences between an "incident" and an "accident"? If so, the difference is severity in terms of whether someone is injured/killed or not. This is described in detail at Aviation accidents and incidents.
As for whether an incident/accident is "notable" in terms of encyclopedic content, we currently have a draft guideline being discussed at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Aviation/Aviation accident task force, it's item 11 on the table of contents; this will give you an idea of the types of incidents and accidents that are worth including. Engine failure from injesttion of FOD is a surprisingly common occurrence. Yes, this one was a bit unusual and harrowing for the passengers to experience two engine failures on subsequent flights, but then again, looked at from another perspective, this just shows how safe aircraft and operational procedures are...the engines had issues, but at the end of the day, no one was hurt. Hope this helps, and if you have any further questions, don't hesitate to ask! AKRadeckiSpeaketh 14:19, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RFC: Michael Haydn Symphonies[edit]

When you get a chance, could you take a look at the articles about the symphonies of Michael Haydn (e.g., Symphony No. 36 (Michael Haydn)). Jindřichův Smith 00:00, 25 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Joseph's and Michael's are more interconnected than you might realize. But even if that wasn't the case, wouldn't some kind of uniformity across symphony articles (for symphonies by any composer) be desirable?
Whichever way you feel about uniformity, I still would like to hear your comments on the specific article I mentioned above. What's good about it? What's not good about it? Jindřichův Smith 15:38, 5 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We should discuss this particular issue with others who might have an opinion before any of us tries to uniformize this all by himself. That's a massive task, and there are other massive tasks which interest me more.
However, I have no preference for "instrumentation" or "scoring." What I don't like so much is having a bunch of level 2 headings for 1-line paragraphs. On the other hand, many scores do devote an entire page to merely listing the instruments. Jindřichův Smith 22:50, 7 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Lucerne Festival Orchestra[edit]

Thanks for the note. I didn't realize that there still is not an article on the Lucerne Festival itself. If I have time, I suppose that I can start it. We will see. Thanks, DJRafe 04:41, 31 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake; sorry about that. I clicked on that page and forgot that it wasn't the talk page. DJRafe 17:45, 1 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Trombone basso e Tuba[edit]

"e" means "and". If you could add a citation for the score, that would be great. Thanks. DavidRF 13:35, 2 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Edo de Waart/HK Phil post[edit]

There are two different sections on the Edo de Waart page on his conducting posts. His Hong Kong Philharmonic post is at the bottom with the template that says "Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra Artistic Directors". One particular wikipedian likes to create that format vs. the conventional succession boxes, which are above. DJRafe 02:12, 11 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Template colors[edit]

User:CenturionZ 1 has been standardizing the composition templates to tan. I don't have strong opinions about the color as long as the content is good. Looks like the Bax templates match the other templates right now. DavidRF 17:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You weren't using transclusion to add the template. I fixed it for you. Check it the edits to see what I'm talking about. DavidRF 11:34, 13 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Autoblock of 202.40.139.171 lifted, again ;).

I'm considering blocking the IP for anonymous editing, which will prevent autoblock to be triggered... But anonymous contributions coming from this IP are mainly good... I dunno... -- lucasbfr talk 13:43, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Technically there's a way to prevent users from your university to be blocked when an other user is blocked, but that implies disallowing unregistered users to edit, and to create an account. I'll ask around to see what's best :). -- lucasbfr talk 13:57, 16 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, that's annoying. The editor simply pastes in the text from online program notes and leaves us to clean up. At least he/she added citations so we knew where they were from, but still these online program notes have a way of disappearing at the end of the venue's season. These program/liner notes are promotional, too, so they'll be littered with POV statements. I'll see what I can do. My guess is a lot of it gets removed. DavidRF (talk) 04:50, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry for the confusion. Often, I do my edits in pieces. I found a book (Berger) that contains most of the same information and I was in the process of migrating the article. Sometimes I put the Notes and References in separate sections so my footnotes can repeat and be shorter. DavidRF (talk) 05:18, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah. Separate sections. I'd like to change all the notes to Berger, though as I like footnotes that point to books. As for the other two that the original poster added in his edit, I'm thinking of leaving those in as references because some vestiges of them may remain after I'm done editing. I have Berger open beside me and I'd like to get through the article. I'll let you know when I'm done for the evening. Thanks. DavidRF (talk) 05:26, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I'm done. Thanks for your patience. Whoever wrote the program notes was definitely just paraphrasing Berger. So, it was very awkward trying to reword plagiarized text with the help of another very similar source. Please do feel free to tidy it up as you please. It will help to further remove the article from the original word-for-word paste. Also, I added a page for Furiant.DavidRF (talk) 06:32, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bach inconsistencies[edit]

Yes, it would be good to regularise all of the article titles, and to create redirects from the predictable alternative formattings. Tony (talk) 09:07, 14 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Holiday Overture[edit]

Thanks for the very kind note. I thought the instrumentation list would be easier to read in 3 columns than just a 1 column list, to make it shorter for scrolling down the screen, and also easier to read than a simple list all the way across, FWIW. DJRafe (talk) 02:39, 10 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite[edit]

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 01:00, 20 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]
