December 2023[edit]

Hello, please do not make non-constructive edits and blind reverts to some old revision as you did to List of India national cricket captains. For one, you are cluttering one particular table with unwanted statistics. As the article is a list of captains and not his/her achievements against every team/ in every series. So a simple list with the basic statistics should suffice as per WP:NOTSTATS. You can view featured lists such as List of Indian Premier League captains, List of Champions League Twenty20 captains and List of Bangladesh Premier League captains as examples.

Information icon Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been or will be reverted.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive. Continued disruptive editing may result in loss of editing privileges. Thank you. You have blindly reverted to some old revision bypassing multiple other intermediate edits and do not do that. If you have any issues, take it to the talk page, initiate a discussion. Please familiarize yourself with WP:3RR. Magentic Manifestations (talk) 02:47, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Magentic Manifestations,
1) Some examples as mentioned by you are of list of captains from T20 leagues not the Test format.
From the cricket's perspective, the bifurcation of series and years is necessary as the Test format is different from other formats. The overall record for a captain does not provide actual context to the captain's performance because the results largely depend on whether the match was played in home conditions or in away conditions, who was the opponent and so on. For reference, you can go through List of England cricket captains, List of New Zealand national cricket captains, List of Australia national cricket captains.
Now, one may can argue that this is a list of captains and not his/her achievements against every team/ in every series. But if we go by actual sense of the word "list", then we should remove the stats altogether and just create a numbered list (not table) of the name of the captains with no stats at all. However, I don't think that would be a good idea.
2) As mentioned, some intermediate edits were reverted as well when the bifurcation of series and years were added back. We can work on that mutually and make sure that the stats in the table stay the way they were before the edit on December 19, 2023 and the genuine edits made after that are included as well.
Looking forward to a positive response.

While I agree that a captain's performance might be dependent on home/away conditions, not sure why this should be case only for test matches even though it is perceived that way that the home conditions favor results in test more often than not. While I still believe, this introduced clutter in the tables, for the time being, you can add the series data back, before a consensus can be reached on a larger forum. But please make sure that the intermediate edits are preserved and table formatting is kept the same way, uniformly. If possible, add similar information for WTests as well to maintain uniformity.
