Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive
 Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats. 
 So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.
We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal. Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. I undid his "hi" earlier today then he redid it to say "hi i am bob :)" a few hours later... that IP was banned for a year, that ban ended a month ago, i think it needs to be banned permanently, that IP has contributed NOTHING of consequence. - I saw your response on Wetman's page. Some former members (like me) discovered that there were topics -- like Ethiopia -- in worse need of attention. Had I not moved on, articles like Yekatit 12, Battle of Wayna Daga, & 1960 Ethiopian coup attempt would likely never have been written. Maybe some day, either when Ethiopian topics have more & better contributors, or I tire of writing about them, I will return to Egypt-related topics. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here is your mid-drive newsletter.
 So far, 79 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 64 have participated. Interest is high due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page, and many new and first-time copy editors have joined us for the drive. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now. Many thanks to those editors who have been helping out at the Requests page. We have assisted in the promotion of seven articles to Good article status so far this month.
We have already achieved our target of reducing the overall backlog by 10%; however, we have more work to do with the 2009 backlog. We have almost eliminated May 2009 and we only have some 700 articles left from 2009. It is excellent progress, so let's concentrate our fire power on the remaining months from 2009. Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors March 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating in the March 2011 drive! This newsletter summarizes the March drive and other recent events.
There were 99 signups for the drive; of these, 70 participated. Interest was high mainly due to a link to our event from the Watchlist page. We had a record-breaking 84 articles listed on the Requests page in March; 11 of these have been promoted to Good article status so far. Several of our recent efforts have received Featured Article status as well, and the GOCE is becoming a solid resource for the Wikipedia community. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
Remarkable progress was made in reducing the backlog this month, as we now have fewer than 500 articles remaining from 2009. We are well under the 4,000-article mark for the total number remaining in the queue. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 53% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their April drive has started.

I think that if you really wanted to promote this article to FA as you say you do, you could list the issue exhaustively and I could try to make the necessary modification. It could be done quickly.
- I see. Just you know: I know this article well and know all (almost) sources of information as well. This to say that this part (of sourcing) should be instantaneous. In fact you can find them listed in most specialized articles already. What is needed is a quick copy editing afterwards :)

I'd like to make a comment about something else, if you don't mind. I saw the thread you created in the FAC talk page and I believe you should review articles that either you are interested in the subject or that you have somekind of knowledge on the subject. There is no need to suffer so much and review 10 articls because 10 editors reviewed your FAC. Wikipedia is supposed to be fun... in a serious place. But still fun. Not a pain in the ass. You're doing great and I think you should keep like that.
I'm leaving Wikipedia now, as I had some issues with an editor in the FAC of Maria Amélia which made me grow tired of this website. However, I don't want that to happen to another editors. Find frieds here, people who can back you up when you need or else, you'll be crushed when you face a clique. But I wish good luck and I hope you continue doing a great work as you have so far. Yales Classical studies
Technically, it's a book series, and normally I would use the "series" field (as in here), however, in the cases where the volumes in a series do not have individual titles and do not form a clear multivolume work, the journal template seems appropriate (it's a much more frequent situation in the hard science than the humanities), at least, it fits the bibliographic data in a more natural way than the book one. I've seen that later volumes have separate titles, and for those I'd happily use the book format (especially as they have ISBNs, but even then it can get fuzzy, and in biology, many book series are still formatted as if they were journals).  There were 63 signups for the drive; of these, 45 participated. Although we did not award a bonus for articles from the Requests page this drive, we are not experiencing lengthy delays in getting the articles processed. Many thanks to editors who have been helping out at the Requests page and by copy editing articles from the backlog.
During the month of May we reduced the backlog by approximately 10%, and made remarkable progress on eliminating articles tagged from 2009. There are now only 15 articles left, down from the 415 that were present when the drive started. Since our backlog drives began in May 2010 with 8,323 articles, we have cleared more than 54% of the backlog. A complete list of results and barnstars awarded can be found here. Barnstars will be distributed over the next week. If you enjoyed participating in our event, you may also like to join the Wikification drives, which are held on alternate months to our drives. Their June drive has started.
The six-month term for our first tranche of Guild coordinators will be expiring at the end of June. With regards to referring to the towers of Church architecture as "pylons"...... well, in general, I wouldn't. But somebody added that to one of the articles. Egyptian temples were built for the official worship of the gods and commemoration of pharaohs in ancient Egypt. Within them the Egyptians performed the central functions of Egyptian religion: giving offerings to the gods, reenacting their mythological interactions through festivals, and warding off the forces of chaos. These rituals were seen as necessary for the gods to continue to uphold the divine order of the universe. Most of the populace was forbidden from entering temples' most sacred areas, but temples were still important religious sites for all classes of Egyptians. Temples are among the largest and most enduring examples of Egyptian architecture, with their elements arranged and decorated according to complex patterns of religious symbolism. A large temple owned sizable tracts of land and employed thousands of laymen to supply its needs. Some temples have become world-famous tourist attractions that contribute significantly to the modern Egyptian economy. Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 backlog elimination drive report
 Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors July 2011 Backlog elimination drive. Thank you for participating! Here is your end-of-drive report.
50 people signed up for the drive, of which 39 participated. Thanks to all who copy edited articles and helped us reduce the backlogs in both the total articles and requests. We offered a bonus for copy edits from the Requests page, and have been somewhat successful in reducing that backlog, as a record 89 new requests were received in the month of July.
During the month of July we reduced the backlog by 338 articles, or by about 8.5%. We did not reach our goal of a 10% reduction, but we came close, and did very well considering the small size of the group participating. Since our Backlog elimination drives began in May 2010, we have reduced the backlog by 4,708 articles. End-of-drive results can be found here. We will be handing out barnstars within the next week or two.
Please remember that the GOCE Requests page is receiving a high number of requests, with the number of August requests already above three per day. Any assistance to help keep the backlog down would be greatly appreciated. Our next drive will be in September. We hope to see you there! Could you take a look at the latest edits on the Hemen article? The very latest edits by Drift chambers are just peculiar. It renders the article pretty illegible I think.  Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2011 Backlog elimination drive! Here's the mid-drive newsletter.
We have had 55 people sign up for this drive so far, and 31 have participated. If you have signed up but have not yet copy edited any articles, please consider doing so. Every bit helps! It's not too late to join the drive if you have not already done so. Another great way to help out is to watch-list the Coordinators talk page and participate in the ongoing development of the Guild.
So far, we have reduced the backlog by 75 articles, or about 19% of our goal. We have also cleared January 2010 off of the queue and are close to clearing off February and March. If each participant were to copy edit two articles from February and March 2010, they would be completely eliminated from the queue.
Several concerns have been brought up this drive about the usage of rollover words. Rollover words only count if they're from the previous drive. For example, if you received 1,000 rollover words in March and didn't participate in May, your rollover words return to zero. This is to encourage participation in multiple consecutive drives. - The problem may be a)that this is someone bringing something off-wiki here, b)the IP could be anyone here, and c)a lot of the stuff is buried in the archives so you can't see the whole context. There were 58 editors who signed-up for this drive, of which 42 participated. This is a slight increase from the July 2011 drive participation, where 39 out of 50 people that signed up participated. Thank you to everyone!
During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 146 articles, or by about 4%. Overall we did well, especially considering the exceptionally large number of articles that were tagged during September. Thus far we have reduced the copy edit backlog by 4854 articles, or by about 58%. If we keep up our current rate of copy editing, the backlog should be reduced by 65–70% by the end of this year. Brief comment
The pharaoh Ahmose I Chronology is not 100% secure but it probably dates to the mid-or early 16th century BCE. He could have taken power...perhaps not at 1550 BC but perhaps 1539 BC if Thutmose II had a reign of only 3 years. Some people claim that the Thera tsunami is referred to in a stela dating to his reign...but it may just be a metaphorical description of the damage that the Hyksos caused to Egypt instead as you can see in a long book review written here on Kim Ryholt's book on the Second Intermediate Period. The thing is Thutmose III's accession is accepted to be in 1479 BC based on lunar dates and there is not much leeway to date Ahmose's time-line much before 1539 BC, I would think. Egyptian chronology is still not settled now that Horemheb's true length has been dated to 14 years and 1 month (not 27 or 28 years) based on a large cache of wine dockets found in his VOK tomb which date to Year 13 and 14 of his reign. (see Jacobus Van Dijk, New Evidence on the Length of the Reign of Horemheb, JARCE 44 (2008) pp.193-200) It is Ay's reign that is now a problem--he could have ruled longer than 4 years--as most of his monuments were destroyed by Horemheb when the latter king came to power. Manetho's supposed figure of 14 years and 1 month for Horemheb which was amended to 4 yrs and 1 month is likely to be attributed to Horemheb. Ay seems to have been missed by Manetho. - Sorry: I meant to say above that "Manetho's figure [in his Epitome] of 14 years and 1 month for Horemheb which was amended to 4 yrs and 1 month [and re-ascribed by Egyptologists to Ay based on a Year 4 stela dated to Ay's reign] is likely to be attributed to Horemheb" himself based on the cache of Year 13 and 14 wine dockets found in Horemheb's VOK tomb. I have read Van Dijk's paper and virtually all scholars today accept its conclusions that Horemheb had a short 14 year reign and not a long 27-28 year reign. It also perfectly explains many things--the lack of clear unambiguous higher dates for Horemheb beyond a Year 13 wine docket previously found in his Memphis (non-royal) tomb--and especially the unfinished state of this king's royal VOK tomb. In contrast, Seti I had a reign of about 11 years and finished his tomb within this time-frame--but Horemheb had to devote the first few years of his reign to sorting out the corruption that was endemic among Egypt's state officers that Akhenaten created in his centralised state and the chaos he caused in his attacks on the Amun priestshood. Prince Thutmose was a Crown Prince?
It was Aidan Dodson who gave the information that Prince Thutmose was the Crown Prince of Amenhotep III in a 1990 JEA article. And this was from an inscribed document--the sarcophagus of Thutmose's cat which titled Prince Thutmose: "Crown Prince, Overseer of the Priests of Upper and Lower Egypt, High Priest of Ptah in Memphis and Sm-priest (of Ptah)." (not me or Dodson...who merely did the translation) So now a Crown Prince is not a Crown Prince and we are not supposed to believe the ancient Egyptians' words? Why would Prince Thutmose lie about this detail and inscribe it on such a minor item as his cat's sarcophagus? I find this somewhat puzzling. It seems more reasonable that Akhenaten was not originally Amenhotep III's intended heir but when Akhenaten's elder brother--Prince Thutmose--died, the king and Queen Tiye had to groom him for the throne but he had certain unorthodox ideas (for an Egyptian) about being pharaoh such as the idea of there being 1 supreme god and Egypt underwent a tumultuous 17 years under his rule which ended in near chaos. It was Tutankhamun, Ay and Horemheb who had to deal with his overcentralisation tendencies that led to massive corruption among a small number of state officials and a struggling state economy. During the drive, we reduced the backlog by 232 articles, or by about 6%. This is a two percent increase from our September drive, when we copy edited 4% of the backlog. We were successful in our primary goal of clearing the oldest three months—March, April, and May 2010—from the queue. Thanks to all who helped copy edit these difficult articles. Peer review limits changed
This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. The backlog is for PR requests which have gone at least four days without comments, and some of these have gone two weeks or longer waiting for a review.

- When leaving welcome messages, I don't want to take the time to write my own, but I'm usually not fully satisfied with the template's suitability for the issue at hand. So I look up the welcome templates, copy one (I used Template:W-cust in this case), strip out the wikisyntax that I don't want, adjust the message to fit the situation, and post it. I should probably store these improvised messages somewhere rather than making a new one each time, but I've never bothered.

Hello there -- long time no speak! Sorry, have been busy with a number of things for a while, and have not been very active here since helping to bring the Rosetta Stone up to Featured status last year.
Business will take me to Cambridge, U.K. next week, and am planning on visiting the extensive Ancient Egyptian collection at the Fitzwilliam Museum while there and I plan on bringing my camera along (assuming non-flash photography is allowed). Is there anything you will like me to be on the look-out for to help illustrate any of the articles you have an interest in?

To answer your question on Kingdom of Blambangan speedy decline...
...well, it doesn't. At least, not by the time you got to it. =^_^=
I just checked the history of the article. What happened is that the author had replaced the {{db-nocontent}} template with, well, content, and then user:SDPatrolBot came in and put the template back. Repeat once, when the original author had ganked it again. So here, the author solved the problem, and in my opinion he was right, to remove an A3 speedy - though, the bot felt otherwise, evidently.
So long and short, I was right the first time, but the later replacement may be just a bug in the bot's reflex actions. Not sure how to fix that, as such a fix, from my perspective, could be overridden by filling the article with nothing more than gibberish. Pronunciation of Anubis
I looked up the pronunciation of Anubis online and I get \ə-ˈnü-bəs, -ˈnyü-\ according to Merriam-Webster Anubis. On the page for Anubis the pronunciation is given as /ʌˈnuːbʌs/. - No, you're right, it should be /əˈnuːbəs/. I'll change it. I just slightly misread the pronunciation guide at the front of the dictionary, which gives IPA conversions. (Webster's uses one symbol, "ə", for both sounds, but it says that their "ə" translates to IPA's "ʌ" when stressed and to IPA's "ə" when unstressed. Languages are complicated.) A. - (answer to your reply on my page): the word by word translation of the title high priest of Amun is indeed: first god's servant of Amun, so highpriest of Amun comes very close. The main title of the high priest at Heliopolis is great one of the seers (wr mA.w), so the name of the deity does not even appear within the high priest title. Hello Parrot, from what you told me, I gather that you are the specialist of Egyptian religion around here. Well I noticed a ca. +8500 signs edit on the article Egyptian pantheon immediatly reverted by ClueBot NG, the bot having interpreted it as vandalism. I had a look at it and it is not so clear, it seems to a genuine addition to the article. Rather than putting back the edit myself, I thought it would be better if you, who knows about egyptian religion, find the edit to be indeed vandalism or not. (I am really not sure). Sorry for spamming your talkpage, I think it is time we revert all pharaoh pages using hieroboxes to standard infoboxes. I have explained why in the project talk page, in particular, I found ways to do add as many names, translations and transliterations in the standard infobox as required, see e.g. Khasekhemwy. Metternich stela
Hi. You'd mentioned that you were looking for someone in NYC to take a picture of the Metternich stela for the corresponding article. I visited the Met and took a few pictures of it, but the quality is not great. The lightning in the display room is rather dim and the stela is inside a plexiglass case that causes reflections. If you really want them, I could upload them, but it seems to me that an argument could be made that some of the images here, for example, could be used under the PD-Art rules, since the three-dimensional texture is minor, especially for the pictures of the hieroglyphic text. It might also be possible to consult with the Met staff about the copyright status of the pictures. - Eb.hoop (talk) 23:46, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

Hello. I noticed your work at Talk:Luise Brunner and Talk:Anna Friederike Mathilde Klein. you have enough information for a full article, you can submit it at WP:Articles for creation, although at the moment the pages you've created about Brunner and Klein don't look like viable articles. If you were a registered user I would suggest that you move these articles to a user subpage, but I'm not sure that unregistered accounts are allowed to have their own user pages. In any case, these articles shouldn't be on talk pages. Maybe it would be best for you to work on the articles in a Wikipedia sandbox and keep copies of your work on your computer until you're ready to submit an article for creation.

Requesting help with print sources
Would you be able to help with the DYK review for Horus Sa? The article is using a bunch of online sources that appear to be much less substantial than they claim to be (and statements by the article's nominator compound my discomfort), and I'm getting almost no Google hits for the existence of Horus Sa. As a result, I'm starting to wonder if it might be an elaborate hoax, and it would greatly helpful to have input from someone with FA-writing experience, since I'm guessing that you'd have access to relevant print sources.
