I’m interested in adding images to articles which either lack them entirely, need more images quantity wise, or need better images quality wise. If I understand correctly, I can submit any image that I took/produced myself, has been released into the public domain, or is listed under a Creative Commons to WP:FFU. Hi 66.31.81.200 as an anonymous user in English Wikipedia you cannot upload any images, you need to have an autoconfirmed account. See Wikipedia:Uploading images for more details. I believe there is no waiting period on Wikimedia Commons but you still need an account. It not quite as straight forward as you say but yes generally your correct for most cases - however there are other restrictions such as Freedom of panorama images in some countries, etc. If you use the upload wizards (from the left hand menus here and on commons) and go though the steps it will reduce the chance of problems. Furthermore, WP:FFU is for images that are available online and that are non-free. Quote Wikipedia:Files for upload/Wizard: "If you... do not have a Wikipedia account and want to upload a free image yourself, you need to create an account at the Wikimedia Commons first. "Free content" in this context is content released under a license that allows everybody to re-use and modify it for any purpose, including commercial purposes. Content released under, for example, the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license qualifies, while content released under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 license does not.
