Mr. 62.249.160.48: If you are not able to fulfill the most basic requirement of log into wikipedia for accusing a long years contribuitor of messing up then I will be in the need to report your IPaddress. I am even not sure that you will read or are interested of reading the opinion of other contribuitors for a healthy discussion. Plese, write an explanation, with a log-name, to may account (GabEuro) why you have deleted the remark I added to Longon Olympics' medal standings table. --GabEuro (talk) 07:29, 26 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello: Thanks for your response. I understood the changes that you made, but I wanted to make sure that I was addressing to somebody who wants to make a positive contribution to the article. Really, I recommend you to get a "username". There are some Wikipedia recommendations to this respect.

Regarding the table. Yes, the official IOC count is based on the number of gold medals. In the US it is widely used the ranking by the total number of medals. I imagine that some people would like to switch from one to another by an authomatic operation and not manualy building a new table. Nevertheless, I think that it is very important that from the first approach to the table people could see that changes in the rankings have officialy occurred. I checked the IOC page and even there the tables do not include all the changes. Like this one of the Russian Federation: http://www.olympic.org/russian-federation (check olympic medals section on the right hand). A clear remark linked to the "medal standings changes" section should be included at the top of the table and a symbol in the same cell where the name of the country is given (no numbers there) could be added. All the best! --GabEuro (talk) 10:28, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it is particularly useful as I think the section on changes is sufficient.
Sure, go ahead with adding the footnote in the NOC column. It might be an idea to use a smaller symbol than "§", such as "^". You could also consider to distinguish between NOCs gaining and losing medals by using two symbols. Regarding the total on the Olympic website I think this is probably because the athlete in question was not disqualified by the IOC directly (i.e. by an executive board decision), rather the result has been vacated as a result of a RUSADA decision. (It may actually be premature to update the medal table now, especially regarding redistribution as the IOC have elected to not reallocate medals in the past.) 62.249.160.48 (talk) 13:45, 31 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
