RE: Template:Logie Awards hosts[edit]

Hi, I'm not too sure to be honest, but I'm presuming it has been resolved now since it now says 1960? Good job on noticing it, I must have made a mistake when I made it - can't believe it remained this long! Thanks, Allied45 (talk) 03:17, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Actually Jason Quinn (talk · contribs) mentioned it on the templates' talk page. And I have 'compounded' the error by mistakenly saying 1959 was even on the template, it never was! I corrected my post on the page there, but not on your talk. (corrected nowMea culpa! editing @ 18:16 UTC = 4:16 AM AEST!)
The only issue now is, who was the host in 1960? Certainly not the late (Very late!) US politician 'Hugh O'Brien', but as suggested by the other editor, US actor 'Hugh O'Brian? I assumed(!) it would be an Aussie, hence I relinked the template to the presumably non-existent Hugh O'Brien (Australian) (better than the aforementioned dead 'polly', I thought). Perhaps the question could be brought up on the Entertainment reference desk, or perhaps the Australian Wikipedians' notice board?
p.s. who was/is Gerald Lyons, host in '62 & '65? (Maybe this is him. 4 Corners-The people Presenters: Gerald Lyons (1963), Executive Producers:Gerald Lyons (1963) ) - 220.101 talk\Contribs 11:14, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well this site lists Hugh O'Brian as the "guest presenter", so it could very well be the US actor. I would also assume you are correct about Gerald Lyons, it seems like too big a coincidence. I also noticed that the same site says neither the 1961 or 1962 awards were televised, whereas Wikipedia says they were both broadcast on ABC (the 1962 page actually says "Nine Network" so clearly there is some inconsistency). Wow, we really have some issues when it comes to sourcing historical info for the Logies! Allied45 (talk) 11:37, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Well 'Aunty' ABC would have to be right, wouldn't she? Heres another site with info about Lyons@4 Corners, "The Museum of Broadcast Communications" FOUR CORNERS-Australian Current Affairs Program. Here Lyons was apparently involved in the first report on the then secret Lockheed U-2 spy plane. He may be worth his own article. Re "sourcing historical info", from back in the 60s most references are on paper ie Books not Net! Heres one Pullan, Robert. Four Corners--Twenty-Five Years. Sydney, Australia: Australian Broadcasting Corporation, 1986.
So we have a possible ref for Hugh O'Brian(US actor) at the 1960 Logies, you'd think they would note if he was a visiting US 'Star' (perhaps he was so well known then everyone 'knew'?) I'd like a bit more certainty before linking to him. Speaking generally, I have found that the bios of even some very notable Australian sports people are very/were sparsely referenced. Look at the Aussie comedian Roy Rene, "one of the most well-known and successful Australian comedians of the 20th century", a definite lack of 'footnotes'. - 220.101 talk\Contribs 12:48, 2 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Here's yer minnow back[edit]

Follow me to join the secret cabal!

Plip!

That's not for giving me the smack in the first place, which was entirely appropriate, but implying (1) my mistake might have been intentional, and (2) I wouldn't have been capable of such a mistake if I were a quantum physicist. Remember to AGF, my friend. Cheers, --JaGatalk 22:47, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Imply? Me? I stand minnow whacked! Actually, I'm sure that Heisenberg's uncertainty principle and the laws of probability, require such mistakes, even by quantum physicists (and Admins, editors and even kittens!). Perhaps Brownian Motion caused your mouse to move, inadvertently selecting text? (I know my mouse goes crazy, sometimes!) There was the time I moved text to the search box, rather than copying it. Made the article involved read a bit strange! AGF Forever! ☢- 220.101 talk\Contribs ☢23:47, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

October 2011[edit]

Hi 220.101.28.25. Thank you for your work on patrolling new pages and tagging for speedy deletion. I'm just letting you know that I declined your deletion request for Lata Sharma, a page that you tagged for speedy deletion, because the criterion you used or the reason you gave does not cover this kind of page. Please take a moment to look at the suggested tasks for patrollers and review the criteria for speedy deletion. Particularly, the section covering non-criteria. Such pages are best tagged with proposed deletion, proposed deletion for biographies of living persons, or sent to the appropriate deletion discussion. The A7 criteria for speedy deletion was declined due to indication of importance and/or significance as a prominent politician. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 10:08, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
Well I had to get knocked back eventually! Is this possibly the same person as Prem Lata Sharma? Nb. The page was named Lata sharma pratapgarhp when I nominated it. - 220.101 talk\Contribs 220.101.28.25 (talk) 10:19, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • You're funny. ;) I looked at Prem Lata Sharma, hoping I could place an A10, but didn't see any common content. As for the title, I capped and dropped the town name. Hope all is well. Best regards, Cind.amuse (Cindy) 10:28, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think that page is why I speedy nommed it in the first place, can't find a prominent 'female'(?) Indian pollie by that name, which seems rather common. - 220.101 talk\Contribs 220.101.28.25 (talk) 10:59, 4 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

High residue diet[edit]

When I saw the user name (Forthesimpleandpureliving (talk · contribs) ) I thought, couldn't be a POV pusher could they? Nay, Assume Good Faith thought I! (Which will now be much harder for me to do in the near future.)

Thanks for coming back and proving I wasn't imagining that it was only me they weren't listening to ! I think they were at roughly 5RR when I wrote them my last personal note, and before you posted to their talk again. Sigh! (Noobs!)

A classic example (IMHO) of why it's not such a great idea that brand new inexperienced editors are able to create articles! (At least we finally got an edit summary out of them. After 4 requests!) Happy Administrating!

End of 'My' editing from this IP[edit]

I started editing WP from this IP on 11 September 2009, now after 11,912 edits over 25 months (and 32 talk page stalkers), it will cease to be 'mine' as the Unwired wireless Internet system will be no more as of midnight 28 February 2013. Optus bought Unwired in 2012 and I imagine the IP will also be theirs now.

It's interesting that, considering the alleged shortage of IP addresses that this IP remained 'mine' for so long, it only seemed to change, 220.101.30.184 (talk · contribs), when I edited from another location (same modem & computer), or changed computer (same modem & location, hence my current IP), although I have feeling it may have also changed when IPV6 came in. (OMG look at it 2002:DC65:1D67:0:0:0:DC65:1D67 (22 characters), it was 220.101.29.103 a moment ago!?? & back again!)

If any other WP editors use this IP, good luck to you, just don't try to claim the edits I did, and respect the (apparently) good reputation I gained.

I have had an account for almost 15 months now, and recommend that IP editors create one, for crediting of edits if nothing else. Happy Editing! - 220.101.29.103 (talk) 11:38, 28 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Invitation[edit]

There is a backstage pass coming up to be followed by an editathon in the State Library of New South Wales on 23 November. This is the first time that an Australian cultural institution has opened its doors to us in this way and will be a special opportunity because the Library is providing: one of its best rooms; its expert curators (along with their expertise and their white gloves); a newly launched website (containing new resources); and of course, items from its collection (including rare and usually unavailable material) which we can look at, learn from, and use, to improve WP articles. For example, on the chosen topic (Australia and WWI), the Library holds many diaries and manuscripts from the period.

As you can see from the Library's project page, they have connected this editathon with their own work. They have already set out a wide range of resources to make things easier for us. Please sign up on the editathon project page if you can participate either online or in person with other Wikipedians. Hope to see you there!
