ironic, isn't it?[edit]

I was in the middle of vandal fighting in RC patrol (I had to log out in order to be able to post here) when I get blocked for vandalism because of some other moron on the network. Ah, reciprocity...I suppose I could engage in personal attacks on this other user, permit this exception of WP:NPA? -- 169.244.143.115 16:50, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I WILL SUE YOU IN A COURT OF LAW IN TRENTON, NEW JERSEY
If the enigma and apparent doppelganger using this IP doesn't cease and desist immediately. Then I will bomb your house. This is a warning to the vandals who use 169.244.143.115!
Or maybe Augusta, Maine. Let's see. -- 169.244.143.115 16:55, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Please take legal/illegal threats outside of wikipedia. Thank you! --Cool CatTalk|@ 16:57, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Why? Apparently you hate me. I can't hate/threaten parts of myself, (or people using the same IP as me, rather?) Is reflective threatening bad nowadays? -- 169.244.143.115 16:59, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I have been to Trenton. There is no law.
Neither is there justice here. I make this legal threat, because it is real: if the vandal doesn't stop, I will see that he or she gets imprisoned, or at least brought up to the Board of Education. -- 169.244.143.115 17:02, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yes but legal threats as well as illegal threats violates wikipedias regulations. See Wikipedia:No legal threats --Cool CatTalk|@ 17:10, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Besides which, threatening to bomb someone is, to put it mildly, illegal, and the authorities now have justification to subpoena the logs to see exactly the time the threat was made, and will be able to trace it to the computer from which it was made, and thus most likely to the individual who made the threat. I doubt anyone wants that to happen. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 17:16, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Vandalism is also illegal. Wikipedia also threatened action against Wikipedia is Communism. Your point? You want to use a subpoena against a vandal fighter, not a vandal?
let me tell you all something that vandal is not me i would never sue anyone from trenton new jersey.

Regarding your legal threatsUser:169.244.143.115: this is not allowed.

Don't make legal threats against other users of Wikipedia. Apart from being incivil, doing so causes a number of serious problems:
  • It severely inhibits free editing of pages, a concept that is absolutely necessary to ensure that Wikipedia remains neutral. Without this freedom, we risk one side of a dispute intimidating the other, thus causing a systematic bias in our articles.
  • It causes bad feelings and a lack of trust amongst the Wikipedia community, damaging our ability to proceed quickly and efficiently and with an assumption of mutual good faith.
  • Wikipedia has had bad experiences with users who have made legal threats in the past, and by making legal threats, you may damage your reputation on Wikipedia.
  • A legal threat may lead to you being blocked from editing (on a case by case basis), so as not to exacerbate the problem through other than legal channels.
Instead, first attempt to resolve disputes using the dispute resolution procedures. This will oftentimes lead to a solution without resorting to the blunt tool of the law. If the dispute resolution procedures do not resolve your problem then you can use the law in the knowledge that you have taken all reasonable steps to resolve the situation amicably.
But, if you really feel the need to take legal action, we cannot prevent you from doing so. However, we ask that if you do so then you do not edit Wikipedia until the matter of law is settled, one way or the other, to ensure that all legal processes happen via proper legal channels.
If you do decide to proceed with legal action, you should deal with it privately with the user by e-mail. Do not thrash out the issue in a Wikipedia forum or talk page; you may find that other users take the side of the other party. (Would you really want to sue a group of users if that happened?) If your issue involves Wikipedia itself, you should contact Wikipedia's parent organisation, the Wikimedia Foundation.
For more information please see Wikipedia:No legal threats.
Sincerely, BCorr|Брайен 17:09, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
And if the admins track you down, you lose face not only on Wikipedia, but also in the real world. If this is a joke, then stop now. See what happened to Brian Chase (or whatever his name is)? You don't want that to happen to you. Igor the Lion 17:15, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It is was cynicism, sarcasm - somewhat not joke, but not literal either. First, I apparently can't email the vandal. Secondly, I'm already using this vandal's talkpage. Thirdly, this is the IP I use when I go to school (not my current as I write from home), and fourthly, this is the IP that the vandal uses. Fifthly, vandals aren't users. They are inhuman. Sixthly, this is a shared IP.
Seventhly, this was an apparent reference too WP:BJAODN.
And I know about the entire "no legal threats" thing. Now, does this IP have vandals, legal threateners, or both.
And if the admins track me down? This is hypocrisy: track down the vandal, not me. CAN'T YOU CONTACT THE MAINE BOARD OF EDUCATION?! I HAVE NO POWER TO EFFECT ANY CHANGE WHATSOEVER. The administators, however, instead of taking action against the vandal, and possibly tracking down his or her address, they state they will track me down. This is utter madness, utter injustice. I only want to edit, and combat vandalism.
By the way -- I did contact the Me. Board of Ed. and spoke directly to the main admin for their Internet services, provided them the information, and as they provide services to hundred of sites with thousands of computers and 12,000 user and they ain't gonna do nothin' unless it's way, way more than a nuisance. BCorr|Брайен 15:39, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
It is way, way more than a nuisance. I will not refrain from threatening vandals until they do something about it.
Then, you block this IP for seven days.
Out of exasperation, I make up a light-hearted statement doing some vandal-bashing. But guess what? You refuse to take action against the vandal - you take action against me!
I reserve the right to make a legal threat against vandals, since vandals are not legitimate users. See Wikipedia:Long term abuse/Wikipedia is Communism. Here, there is a legal threat made out against the Wikipedia is Communism vandal. But you apparently don't warn Encylopedist about it. This is utter cabalistic madness. -- 72.227.64.220 21:32, 19 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Don't you know? "There Is No Cabal!"

And week-long blocks are totally wickedly stupid. 72 hours seems wiser to me, but maybe an odd number like 90 would throw the vandals off a little, disturb their daily routine. EVEN BETTER would be for the saving grace of bug no. 550 to be implemented. 169.244.143.115 19:31, 20 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Well finally, someone else on this IP that uses the talkpage. Of course I know there's no cabal, I added it out of jest. User:FrankZappo 169.244.143.115 14:44, 21 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Please temporarily unblock this account for a few minutes - it seems this is a collateral blanket block against the innocent which I was just about to add an extensive contribution to human geography topics (which is quite lacking seeing how city is very poor). Or at least, revert hydrogen chloride to the last version, because it does not have "other names" of hydrochloric acid unlike what the last contributor believed. Oh wikify monorail on the HarbourFront MRT Station article please. You know you have to do this, Jpgordon since you just blocked a legitimate contributor. Therefore you are obligated to do my legitimate contributions since I can't do it. ;-) I am debating the Central Area in Singapore is an agglomeration with the Downtown Core (a central business district) as its focus, or something else. The Central business district article itself needs to wikify city. Do all this for me, please. At least you can sleep at night not knowing you blocked legitimate contributions. -- A victim of collateral damage
OK, I'll unblock and if there's more vandalism I'll block for longer. I suggest you register a username; easier to stay unlocked that way. Your classmates aren't being helpful. --jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 16:00, 17 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Bah? No positive contributions? That's a sharp way to generalize thousands of people...anyhow since I can't do it myself, someone has to do it for me *again* - and you sysops have to do it because well, you're obligated. • RE: [1] You have been blocked for 2 weeks for continuing to vandalise Wikipedia despite repeated requests not to. Please note that this is now your ninth block, and any further acts of vandalism will result in a significantly longer ban. If you wish to make useful contributions, you are welcome to come back after the block expires. Until that time, you will be able to read all articles on Wikipedia, but not make any page changes. Should you have any questions regarding this block, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Best regards, Hall Monitor 19:30, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
You realise this is a shared IP, shared by, I don't know, thousands, if not tens of thousands of students? Why do you lump the good with the bad? And why is it when I try to log in to my account, which currently has 6500 good edits (sorry to bring editcountitis in here, but I really really have to invoke it right now), do I get blocked also? Why do you arrogantly tell me to "go create an account if you don't want to be associated blah blah", when having an account of over 6500 edits doesn't even matter because your entire IP of your school, oh wait, state gets blocked? And why do sysops block for days or weeks at a time, knowing this IP is merely an IP shared by public schools whose vandalism sprees will last merely hours? Oh justice wherefore art thou? I'm on the verge of taking this to an RFAr. -- 169.244.143.115 19:28, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Two weeks seems reasonable to me, though IP blocks affecting registered users is a major problem. You can try to take it up for arbritration, but I highly doubt your case will be accepted without you even contacting the administrator above. // Pathoschild 21:02, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
This off-and-on, mostly-on, banning has been plaguing me for months. What they need to do is to change the blocking settings available to Wikipedia moderators. One should be able to choose between blocking all access from a given IP Address, as we do now, and blocking only anonymous edits from that IP Address. Those accessing from schools and public libraries won't have to be lumped together then, just because they live in the same state. Phoenix-forgotten 04:05, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I edit from a college resnet IP, and I would be rather displeased if my neigbours' moronic misbehaviour were to spill onto Wikipedia and get me blocked. Feel free to make a feature request if you wish. // Pathoschild 13:04, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Can you revert this edit to the last version before it please - namely to conform to verifiability and NPOV policy. I trust some sysop will do it, since I cannot. // (preceding unsigned comment by 169.244.100.47 (talk • contribs) 15:46, November 4, 2005)
Also revert Meiosis to this last good edit here, since the mention of tetraphase is not part of the normal sequence and does not bode well for the article flow. // (preceding unsigned comment by 169.244.143.115 (talk • contribs) 15:48, November 4, 2005)

Can you just block for a few hours at a time? There is honestly no benefit to blocking longer.
There is a benefit. It's more time we don't have to deal with the vandalism. Additionally, longer blocks mean that you are more likely to complain to the (library?) administrators who might work to actually correct the problem. All that being said, I will unblock now. Given the amount of vandalism from here, I suspect it will reblock soon, and I'll have no hesitation about blocking again for extended periods of time. Wikibofh 15:10, 2 December 2005 (UTC)[reply]
