TAFI

Hello,
In the past few days, Today's Articles for Improvement has gone through many changes.

  • We have modified the process for adding Nominations, which now uses a template/table format and requires only 3 supports for an article to be selected.
  • There is now a Holding Area, where articles are kept for discussion before being selected for a particular date.
  • The TAFI schedule now involves adding 10 articles weekly, chosen from a variety of topics.
  • We now have an Accomplishments page where we will be highlighting our older TAFI articles which have now become quality articles on the Wikipedia.

The Project is almost ready to hit the Main Page, where it will be occupying a section just below "Did you Know" section. Three article from the weekly batch of 7 will be displayed randomly at the main page, the format of which can be seen at the Main Page sandbox. There is also an ongoing discussion at the Main page talk over the final details before we can go forward with the Main Page.

If you have any ideas to discuss with everyone else, please visit the TAFI Talk Page and join in on the ongoing discussions there. You are also invited to add new nominations, and comment and suport on the current ones at the Nominations page. You can also help by helping in the discussions at the Holding Area.

Above all, please do not forget to improve our current Today's Articles for Improvement

Thank you and hoping to have some productive work from you at the Project,
TheOriginalSoni (talk) 12:14, 18 February 2013 (UTC)
(From the TAFI team)

Thank you!!! for adding "Major Edit" tag on "Impalement"!!

I ceratainly prefer to be "alone" about restructuring of article here; thought about doing this prior to GA nomination, on basis of short thrift there, have decided to comprise article in major way to make it more readable to less ghoulish readers than myself. :-)Arildnordby (talk) 16:36, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Allah Las article rejection

The article I submitted for review about the Allah Las was rejected for not having references that proved its noteworthiness (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Allah_Las).

Among other sources, the article referenced: 1. NPR's national website 2. LA Weekly, a major LA news and events periodical 3. Amoeba Music's website, one of the largest (if not the largest) independent record stores in the Unites States that is also known as an arbiter of up and coming musical acts

The references in the Allah Las article seem every bit as strong as the sources cited in this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Growlers

Can you please clarify?

Jeffrey.stottlemyer (talk) 17:28, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

Some falafel for you!

Hi,

You reviewed my submission, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/YuMe

I have updated it to reflect your comment of it not being written encyclopaedically. This is my first Wiki entry. I hope the edits suffice. Let me know your thoughts. I appreciate your help and patience with me in getting this published.

I have removed your "brick wall" comment from this talk page. Although editors stated it should be struck, I would go further as I predict this editor would pounce on it as evidence of Wikipedia being a troublesome and problematic environment. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:00, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

Discretionary sanctions warning

Per WP:ARBCOM/TROUBLES, all articles that "could be reasonably construed as being related to The Troubles, Irish nationalism, and British nationalism in relation to Ireland" are under a WP:1RR restriction and are subject to discretionary sanctions. You just came very close to violating the 1RR - please take more care in the future, and consider your tone when discussing these articles with other editors. Hello,

I wrote and submitted a Wikipedia article (my first!) about Hank Risan (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Hank_Risan), an accomplished individual in many ways. The article was rejected for insufficient referencing. In my next submission, should I "play it safe" and remove anything that isn't reference-able, such as childhood, education, and early career stuff for which references can't be found? For example, Risan owns a lot of *very expensive* works by Banksy, the famous graffiti artist, and other famous artists. I've viewed the works, many of which hang in his home in Santa Cruz, but I can't reference this. He won a Natl Science Foundation award some 27 years ago, but I could not find a reference. He worked with numerous famous scientists and mathematicians in leading universities, but there are no references for these important career-building events. There are many such instances of significant events and achievements in Risan's life that I can't find references. Should I simply pare his article back to the bare bones, and rebuild from there, as references become available? Is that the best approach?

Many thanks! Bbmusicman (talk) 19:26, 22 February 2013 (UTC)

Hi YCALAM, I notice your signature doesn't include a link to your Talk page. This makes it difficult for people to contact you. Particularly if you're working at AfC or the Teahouse I think it's essential to have a direct link (but it's also a Wikipedia requirement). You might want to address the problem! Hwyl fawr! Disambiguation link notification for February 24

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Third Crusade, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Siege of Acre (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Your contributions at AFC

I have reversed a number of your accepted articles for multiple problems with the content. This includes BLPs without any reliable independent sources, articles that read like an advertisement, articles without wikimarkup or broken references, articles written as essays or loaded with unencyclopedic language and non-notable subjects. This is not acceptable. Articles accepted via AFC have to stand a reasonable chance of surviving as well as fully conforming to wikipedia standards. Please do not accept any further articles at AFC until you have carefully reviewed them to ensure that they are fully compliant with NPOV/N/BLP & MOS. Spartaz Humbug! 14:02, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

You still haven't amended your signature (as already mentioned) to allow editors direct access to your Talk page. In my view you should do that too, before going anywhere near AfC or the Teahouse. Sionk (talk) 14:50, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
  • They sort-of have, as I can access their talk page from any signed post outside of this user's talk. I've noticed this glitch on at least one other account (Starship9000) Lukeno94 (talk) 15:42, 3 March 2013 (UTC)
Ah interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. Mind you, I still don't like these confusing signatures that lead people to pages with a totally different name! It's not great when you're working with newbies on a regular basis. Sionk (talk) 16:11, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Semiformal restrictions

In case you have not yet noticed: you now have semiformal topic bans on AFC and AN/ANI. Although you may improve articles in the AFC incubation process, you may not promote nor decline any submissions. Likewise, although you may file a formal AN/ANI complaint if needed, you are not permitted to comment on any AN/ANI thread that is not related to your own filing. If you would like these restrictions made formal, we can easily do so, but I'm certain that you can live for at least 3 months under these restrictions - or else you'll see yourself in the same situation you're in now pretty quickly (✉→BWilkins←✎) 14:39, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

afc

I have spent all today screening every one of your AfC approvals, except the ones dealing with popular music, a field about which I am too ignorant to trust my judgment. I found about 60% of them good, and the others evenly divided between improvable and candidates for deletion. I've nominated a few for speedy and a few for AfD, and will be proceeding through the others during the next week--I do not like to nominate articles more rapidly than they can be defended. The improvements will take a little longer. What I have not yet been able to screen are the ones you did not approve, to see which ones have some promise, but many of them are turning up as relists for approval, and will mostly be rejected again by whoever does them. Based on what I see there, you did those generally right by my standards.

When I started working of AfCs a few months ago, (I had previously only worked on articles submitted at NPP) I was reluctant to turn down anything promising, and accepted anything I though might conceivably pass an AfD. I soon realised, though, that I was not helping people by accepting articles that would likely be rejected; even if some ended up passing an AfD, if they were improved first, they wouldn't be challenged and the contributor would have a better experience here--and we would get better articles. Of course they will only be really helped if they get significant personal targeting assistance about what is wrong, and I know how slow & difficult that is. Please don't think any of my comments are directed personally--if any seem worded that way I apologize, and will try to avoid it--I want to encourage you to return to patrolling fairly soon, slowly, with a higher standard, and giving more personal assistance. I suggest a good way to do it is to neither accept nor decline, but comment. Sometimes that;s more helpful than anything else if you remember to check they get notified. Disambiguation link notification for April 4

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Willem Jeths, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Composition, Best and BUMA (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I have added several cleanup tags to the article. I recommend that you resolve these issues before you take the article to GA. I do not believe that the article is ready for GA status in its current state, and not having significantly contributed to the article yourself, mayI ask why you nominated it? You Are Vastly Amusing

I have just landed on this strange planet. The Welcome Wagon Lady was quite rude & bestowed upon me the elusive honor of Overzealous Moderator Deleting My First Comment. The article in question was a hot mess. I'm thinking it was hers to be so huffy about the preciousss. I didn't even touch anything. I simply said *OK here's how you fix this*. In about a thousand words. It was that much of a hot mess. Didn't move so much as a comma. People seem to be very possessive of their punctuation round here. Oh, I am also now known as Yet Another Self-Proclaimed Historian Who Composes Hysterical Diatribes or some such nonsense as well. Like, who knew stating credentials up front was considered a bad thing & would make one an object of jeering derision? One would think they would be thrilled to have an expert on board who can correct all the dissemination of historical misinformation. All in all, I think I've done very well in my first 48 hrs. I rarely aggravate anyone that quickly.

Anyway (I am long-winded, mea culpa), I've been randomly flipping through things historical to keep the Moderator-Stalker on its toes, never knowing in what historical period I will be arsed to pop up next with another Hysterical Diatribe (I know I am being carefully scrutinized as a Pet Project because on my 2nd post she quietly snuck in & actually edited something I said was wrong, so perhaps she is coming to realize that in past internet incarnations I have also been known as I Am Never Wrong) - confounded her by going straight from obscure Tudor talk to grandchildren of Edward III. I think it was on the Richard III talk pg that I ran into you, but don't quote me, I've been bopping all over the place, & I aspire to your level of retort. Sincerely. Truly.

Then I came over here to lurk (I don't consider that the same as stalking, do you?) & became even more vastly amused. I like your style. You're like that irreverent kid kicking back in the far reaches of the classroom who already knows more than the teacher ever will & using the class as a platform for hijinks. They take themselves so seriously here. Shake-ups can be fun.

And anyone who likes medieval warfare & the WOTR can't be all bad. I do. (Why isn't there anything useful in the toolbar, like devil-faced emoticons?) So kudos, props, & cheers to you, & I shall be very dejected if they kick you out before they kick me out :-P Keep up the good work. ScarletRibbons (talk) 12:27, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Cheers. Although maybe take just a little more water with it...?! Basket Feudalist 12:40, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

The burden of proof should be on those seeking the inclusion of an image to establish its authenticity. On the specific image, the accompanying text, the publisher, and date of publication create enough doubt to warrant removal. I'll add another image to replace it.
