Speedy deletion declined: Marketplace Homes, LLC

Hello Trivialist, and thanks for patrolling new pages! I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Marketplace Homes, LLC, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not substantially similar to deleted version. You may wish to review the Criteria for Speedy Deletion before tagging further pages. Thank you. GorillaWarfare (talk) 03:37, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Stop making unnecessary edits and promoting subscription links

Case in point, Escape from Tomorrow.

As simple edit of the existing link would suffice instead of linking to a subscription-based service. Undoing your edit and editing the previous link.

Further, casual deletion of categories, links or long-standing edits without proper explanation does a disservice to the community.

Please consider the views of your peers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 175.137.66.56 (talk) 04:08, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Guidance / help needed

Hi Trivialist, I was wondering if I could bend your ear (eye?) for a moment. Though I have several thousand edits under my belt and I've been doing my part to curb vandalism, etc, I've yet to go to WP:ANI or file a request for comment. I'm curious if you could offer some guidance on how to deal with this editor. They apparently never use the preview button, and instead, they save after every change, (added spaces, subtracted spaces, word change, plural, etc). Worse, they appear comically indecisive, and I've noticed that after several edits, the article winds up back where it started. I've detailed two examples of this on their talk page. The result of this type of editing, is that the article edit histories are flooded with their edits, as is my watchlist. I've engaged the user in discussion, but to no avail. What's the next step here? It's not flagrant vandalism, but the edits are extraordinarily disruptive. Thanks, and sorry to bug you. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:45, 27 August 2013 (UTC)

What is the point of deleting links that are appropriate

You deleted an external link beacause of a reason I dont know. What do you mean by it didn't seem appropriate?? The point of Wikipedia is to help users right, to help them find knowledge. If you just delete a link you didn't think was appropriate just by looking at it, How is that supposed to be helpful for anyone. You made edits and additions to Wipedia, give others a chance to share their knowledge!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Ryan889 (talkcontribs) 18:30, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

Disambiguation link notification for September 7

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited I Ain't Got Nobody, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Just a Gigolo (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

What's the problem?

How come you keep reverting the stuff I do? Whether it be lists I worked hard to compile or movie posters with better resolution, you apparently don't care for it. As for those list issues, I have yet to understand how that is copyright, because by that standard, any of the films in that list should be deleted from Wikipedia, and the same would go for AFI's Top 10 Lists. Second, I reverting your undoing of the Raiders poster, and I gave a reason why on the page's "view history" section. I left the Jurassic Park poster as it was when you changed it. --Matthew (talk) 16:55, 8 September 2013 (UTC)

Even so, the Raiders poster I added is not only more well known, but the tagline also is "The Return of the Great Adventure". That is in reference to the adventure serials of the 1930s that Spielberg and Lucas were inspired by. It also has more characters and objects drawn on it, which is more highly connected to the posters of the film's sequels. It also, in my opinion, just simply looks more visually appealing on the page. --Matthew (talk) 17:41, 8 September 2013 (UTC)
Yeah, seriously, though. Now you undid practically everything on the Raptor article? I did that a while ago... are you scanning my contributions list and picking random things to revert? First Raiders and Jurassic Park, then The 100 Scariest Moments and BTTF Part II, and now this? You're starting to make me mad. --Matthew (talk) 01:19, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Quick question about WP:HOUNDING

Hi Trivialist, a quick question: I've noticed a semi-new IPv6 user making edits that remind me of the New Jersey Winnie-the-Pooh Vandal (long story, but the User Talk link for May 2013 has all the IPs). As I go through this recent editor's history I notice that much of it should probably be reverted for excessive detail and grammatical problems. Is there an elegant way to do this that doesn't trip over WP:HOUNDING? I don't want to harsh the kid's mellow, but their edits do not meet our standards. (Though they have improved somewhat, if they in fact are the NJ Pooh Vandal) Thanks, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 04:28, 9 September 2013 (UTC)

Regarding Tiger Electronics

I was able to cope with you reverting edits on articles like Jurassic Park and Back to the Future Part II. But this is getting quite ridiculous, you just reverted my long and difficult work on Tiger Electronics. I added images, an infobox, more sections for readers to better fully understand the company and its products, not to mention changing the one item in the "see also" category from its former title that results in a redirect (Superplexus) to its current name (Perplexus). Yet you went ahead and erased it all, without giving any reason whatsoever. I'd be less annoyed if you gave some kind of reason, even it was completely far-fetched and out of left field. So I went ahead and put it back. So long and thanks for all the fish. --Matthew (talk) 19:42, 10 September 2013 (UTC)

WP:SPI case that might be of interest.

Hey, I've been sitting on this one for a few months because it was weird when we both got targeted, and I suspected that this user might return. And, they're back! I should say that I suspect they're back. [1] Please comment if you have any thoughts and/or if you have any other evidence from doing your rounds! DB non-English

You tagged বাংলাদেশের স্বাধীনতা যুদ্ধ বাংলাদেশের সামরিক বাহিনীর সেক্টর এবং সাবসেক্টরসমূহ for speedy deletion simply because it is not in English. A quick review of the speedy deletion criteria will show that this is not a valid speedy deletion criterion. Text written in a foreign language should be tagged as not English (using the {{not English}} template), and nominated for translation at WP:Pages needing translation into English. In this particular case, a bit of work in Google translate shows that this appears to be an article in Bengali about the Bangladesh Liberation War, an topic on which we already have an article, so I have change the db tag to a {{db-a10}}. Seriously, what is your thing with removing the word "protagonist" from standalone articles on fictional characters? If it's a second heroic character I don't see why "secondary protagonist" violates this minor manual of style that you constantly enforce.—Ryulong (琉竜) 13:43, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

It's not Trivialist's thing, it's a guideline that Trivialist is upholding. The linked guideline explains precisely why we should avoid such labels, but the short version is that it's original research for us to label a character as the protagonist unless a reliable source has done so. One could just as easily ask why it should be important to label characters as such. DonIago (talk) 14:07, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
If it's a superhero in a kid's TV show then I think that qualification is met by common sense. And in all honesty I've only ever seen him enforce this part of that guideline on pages I routinely edit.—Ryulong (琉竜) 14:39, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
"Common sense" is frequently used as a rationalization for why sourcing isn't necessary, but if something is in fact commonly known then finding sourcing for it should be relatively effortless. If you are suggesting that Trivialist is wikistalking you then you should be expressing that concern instead. DonIago (talk) 14:48, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
@Ryulong: I'm just searching for phrases like "secondary protagonist" or "tertiary protagonist"; no wikistalking was intended. Trivialist (talk) 15:40, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
I never said anything about "wikistalking". But is the removal of "secondary/tertiary protagonist" necessary when it could just be changed to "a protagonist"?—Ryulong (琉竜) 15:48, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
@Ryulong: Per WP:PROTAGONIST: "Interpretations in the form of labels (e.g. protagonist, villain, main character) should be avoided. A well-written plot summary should convey such roles." Trivialist (talk) 15:51, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
If it's on a standalone article then the context won't be as clear, mostly because these articles shouldn't be entirely composed of plot summary as has previously been the case.—Ryulong (琉竜) 15:53, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
@Ryulong: In that case, some sort of reference should be provided when identifying a character as, say, a "tertiary protagonist," because otherwise that's just a personal interpretation. Trivialist (talk) 16:00, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
I believe it should be possible to describe the gist of the character's actions without getting into serious plot summary territory, but I'm open to reviewing specific examples. DonIago (talk) 16:00, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
From what I know, the only reason "tertiary protagonist" was used on the article that I routinely edit was because it was the third character to become a protagonist (or superhero or whatever) in the work of fiction.—Ryulong (琉竜) 16:04, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
In that event I would recommend either a) describing the character through its actions rather than using a label, or b) finding a reliable source that uses the term "tertiary protagonist". I would also question whether it's really necessary to use such a label in any case. DonIago (talk) 16:35, 13 November 2013 (UTC)
Labelling a good guy in a black/white morality of a children's program seems straightforward enough not to require such sourcing but "tertiary" is a bit of a stretch.—Ryulong (琉竜) 16:50, 13 November 2013 (UTC)

We must use JPG to avoid competing original market role. JPG is inferior to PNG, but it helps us avoid a lot of risks. --George Ho (talk) 00:24, 29 November 2013 (UTC)

Strike that; JPG is less risky, but PNG is lossless. I guess favoring one format over another is ineffective. I attempted to undelete the PNG copy of the iCarly logo to delete the SVG file, but there was no consensus agreement on undeleting the PNG file and deleting the SVG one, which is superior to the PNG format. I guess... what can we do about the JPEG and PNG copies? --George Ho (talk) 01:38, 3 December 2013 (UTC)

Los Angeles Plays Itself

Can you please point me to the section of Wikipedia's policies that prohibits using references which link to the full contents of a copyrighted work? Furthermore, is it really the role of Wikipedia to decide the legality of the content in the references or is it the goal of Wikipedia to link to as much relevant external information as possible (legal agnosticism)? If you believe the former to be true, you may want to investigate the countless articles referencing Wikileaks documents. But don't lose sleep over it as most of the intellectual property ever produced is legally dubious depending on your jurisdiction and use of aforementioned content.

Disambiguation link notification for January 23

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited General Educational Development, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Pearson (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to Ellis Henican may have broken the syntax by modifying 1 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. Systematically removing "tragically" from articles

I guess you're on a gnome crusade to remove "tragic" from the start of every statement that precedes death in some way. That might actually be appropriate in many instances. But a few problems. First, describe what you're doing. You saying "copyedit" is not sufficient when you're doing this stuff wholesale off a list I know you searched for or compiled specifically for this pattern (it didn't take many to see). Second, pay a bit more attention. I only noticed you because you took it out of one of the instances where it makes sense, on chalk outline. Chalk outlines don't represent just death... they represent some sort of macabre tragic death, that's the humor in their trope. But that nuance in the article is lost when you just plow through. And don't get me wrong, I do AWB... I plow through and do all sorts of edits, and sometimes i get them wrong. But fix your edit summaries, and pay a bit more attention. I try to avoid removing editorial content from articles in this way when I'm doing wholesale edits. I hope you'll do the same. Shadowjams (talk) 07:40, 29 January 2014 (UTC)

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on On the Air (band). I do not think that On the Air (band) fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because As per WP:BAND "Is an ensemble which contains two or more independently notable musicians" establishes notability. So an article about a band with four blue-linked members makes a claim of significence. . I request that you consider not re-tagging On the Air (band) for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 01:19, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Jatt Dizzle and The Underwater Mixtape article.

Why did you have my articles nominated for speedy deletion? Its completely credible with valid sourcing and references. There's no reason for a deletion. As far as contribution towards the nation as a whole, this is just free information. I understand deletions made for dumb things but my article looked legit and was legit. and not to mention it wasnt even finished. I was going to update information as time passed. Roughly a week and the wiki pages would have had more information and more references. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nitajp (talkcontribs) 06:16, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

I will now re-encode the information that was on the last deletion and "re-publish" my artice. please don't delete my article. Give me more reasoning if you must. But don't delete. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Nitajp (talkcontribs) 06:19, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Regarding Transport as a Service

I responded to your contest. I am still building out the article a little. Please remove the speedy deletion tag after review. I actually came to Wikipedia to learn more about this industry concept after reading about it in Forbes and was surprised Wikipedia didn't have an entry. It is used to refer to things like driverlass cars and internetworked car data and communications and is worthy of a wikipedia article, IMO. Sjledet (talk) 20:41, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

OwnTracks

Hi Trivialist,

I am not sure how my page differs from something like the page for Google Latitude? It is a page describing a piece of open source software that many people would potentially find quite useful. Admittedly this is my very first attempt at a WIKI page so I am very new to the process but what else would my page need to include in order for it to meet the criteria of A7?

Thanks! continued

Hi Trivialist, In looking through your talk page, I noticed that I (DonJay) has sent you a Wikilove message. Unfortunately, I did not originate it. I subscribe to politeness wherever possible and formality when the pressure rises. In my message on John Young, I tried to use the latter. This was because in your communication you did not elaborate on what you thought was not in compliance. However I hope that any dealings e may have in the future may continue on a friendly manner.

DonJay (talk) 23:14, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your quick reply and edit. I think you have much improved the page. I have changed one minor point, "real ale" to "Real ale" in the text. This due o the "real" not being used as an adjective, but as part of the noun (see its use in the UK papers). Many Thanks

Thank you for adding the BLP Sources tags to the page. I created the page for my supervisor, with whom I work closely, basing the information mainly on his CV that is published at the LSE website - http://www.lse.ac.uk/management/documents/cv/PAbell-CV-Jan-2011.pdf

Would a reference to this CV be enough to make the tag go away? Could you advise what further information would be needed in order to transform this from a stub to a regular article? thanks!! Engelo (talk) 11:15, 25 February 2014 (UTC)
