Article: Jeff Terrell[edit]

I beleive your bot may hve deleted or reverted a legitimate edit to the afore mentioned article. Currently the article redirects to a disambiguation page for the word "shaft".

Yor bot made a mistake but...[edit]

I just complained about vandelism (a tiny note at the bottom of the Russel's paradox article) And your bot took it away as "vandelism" I NEVER VANDALISE!!! ANYWHO I AM 12! P.S.How do you get a bot?Hi its mina19_1919! 05:40, 28 August 2006 (UTC)--[reply]

Treasure Trooper[edit]

Tawker,

I've been using Treasure Trooper now for two months and have actually gotten paid real cash. With over 100,000 members and millions changing hands every month, it is unfair to permanently delete a Wikipedia article. We don't delete George W. Bush's article because of vandalism.

I understand that there exist many online survey scams and because of treasure trooper's referral policy, many spammed forums. But regardless of these misgivings, they are a legitimate business and have paid millions of real dollars to real people, represent a creative new model for internet marketing, and appear to be growing very rapidly.

I would be willing to write an objective article (fully cited) on Treasure Trooper- subject to peer review of course- if you could lift the lock on recreation.

Thanks for your time and wonderful work within the wiki community,

Charles Hoskinson

Bot mistake[edit]

Your bot corrected my correction of vandalism on Liberalism in Canada calling it vandalism. Turn it off or I will report you for creating a bot that protects vandalism.

Clay Serby Article[edit]

I deleted the majority of the article as it was taken directly from another website.

Bot made mistake with revision[edit]

The bot reverted an edit of a release date for the port of Half-Life Deathmatch. The original version said it was released 21 days ago, on May 2, 2006. I have been playing this game for quite a bit longer than 21 days. It is an undisputed fact that the game was released on November 30th, 2004. The article is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Half-Life ; and the date is under the "Later Developments" heading.

I need your advice on my edits on Khatri article[edit]

I made some edits to the khatri article twice but they were reverted both times by Moderator3000. One was correcting a link to surname called Seth. The other was about Walias (which I linked) also being also called Ahluwalias.

Both these modifications are valid but they are being reverted both the times. I don't know if Moderator3000 is an official moderator of Wikipedia or is just doing what he seems fit.

Request for Adminship
Thank you for supporting/objecting/tropicanising me in my request for Adminship. Although I wasn't promoted to admin status, with a final vote count of 14/27/12, I am very happy with the response I received from my fellow Wikipedians. I was pleasantly suprised at the support, and was touched by it. I will also work harder on preventing disputes and boosting my edit count (which is on the up), so thank you to all your objectors. Hopefully I will re-apply soon and try again for the mop. Thanks again, Highway Rainbow Sneakers

Thanks[edit]

Dear Tawker/Sep06 — Thank you for your support on my recent RfA. It succeeded with a final tally of 72/2/0 and I am now an administrator. I'll be taking things slowly at first and getting used to the new tools, but please let me know if there's any adminnery I can help you with in the future. —Whouk (talk) 20:11, 24 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Do you have an IRC recent changes feed

We have RSS and atom feeds. I dunno what else you mean. We don't have IRC. http://www.biosector01.com/wiki/index.php?title=Special:Recentchanges&feed=rss That would be our RSS feed. I hope you can work with that. ~~U

Thank-you[edit]

The count is in, and now I join the crew who wield the mops and pails.
Thanks for your support! I pledge to serve both you and Jimbo Wales.

If you have anything you need, then please don't think to hesitate.

For I am the very model of a grateful admin designate!

CorbinSimpson's Request for Adminship[edit]

Thanks for voting in my request for administrator rights, even though it failed (13/30/4). Sadly, work has forced me to respond to you all using a substituted message rather than a personalized response. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that administrators, to me, should be chosen and approved by the community, and I will continue working to become a better editor and Wikipedian. No matter what the alignment of your vote was, I will take your comments seriously and use them to improve myself. If you wish to discuss your comments personally with me, I would be more than glad to talk about things since the RfA is now over; just leave your concern on my talk page and we will sort things out. Thanks again for voting, and happy editing! - Corbin Be excellent

Just that if you look at his contributions, you'll notice he has made good edits in the past... I didn't take into account him being an 'abusive sockpuppet' at that point, just that he was vandalising with previous good faith edits, so I didn't block indef. — FireFox usertalk 19:11, 04 June '06

Tawkerbot2 - Clone?[edit]

I was just wondering if you are still 'looking' for another person to host Tawkerbot2? If so, I'd be interested in giving it a go, if possible for both me and you. I had a few questions which I hope you'd have time to answer even if you don't need another host for Tawkerbot2.

  1. What are the specifications for running the bot? For example, operating system – I know a lot of bots these days are only Windows or Linux compatible for example.
  2. What programs are required for running the bot?
  3. I'm not incredibly clever with the technical side of things, so what other kind of things are needed and are they all free?
  4. Would the clone be capable of running simultaneously with Tawkerbot2? That is to say, if the two are reverting at the same time (Tawkerbot2 getting some vandalisms, and the clone getting the others), would they work well or would this produce malfunctioning, for example the clone reverting Tawkerbot2?

Thanks, — FireFox 19:29, 11 June '06

Hi, Tawker, thanks for all your contributions of work to Wikipedia! New IRC bot needed[edit]

Hello Tawker. I do not know if you are following the discussion at WikiEN-I about WP:BLP. We are discussing the possibiity to have a similar bot as the one running at vandalism-en-wp, that monitors the newly created Recent Changes page for articles on living people, that can be used by the newly forming Wikipedia:BLP Patrol. Any chance you can respond to this request, Tawker? ≈ jossi ≈ t@ 19:32, 9 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmm, current IRC basis does not report them directly to IRC which makes things tricky, pgk might be the best person to ask as I'd assume having pgkbot grab the cat page every now and then and specially flagging that way would be best -- Tawker 00:20, 10 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Will ask pgk as suggested. ≈ jossi ≈ t@

Tawkerbot2[edit]

Hi - what are the requirements to run a clone of Tawkerbot2? I'm interested in doing so and was wondering how to go about starting to run it (if possible) Thanks Martinp23 13:48, 8 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

School IPs[edit]

To me, that just sounds pre-emptive. Blocking a range of IPs over one or two vandals just seems like a bad move to me. "a strong majority of the legit editors from schools are using an account anyways". How do you know that? And I don't think it's something we can assume. Blocking a range in the thought that "well the a strong majority of the legit users all have accounts" seems rather anti-wiki to me. Just refuse to do it. If you want to, be my guest. But it's not something I will do. --Woohookitty(meow) 14:52, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Tawkerbot2 problem?[edit]

Hi, I clicked onto wikipedia without being logged on and saw that I had a new message. I saw that it was from tawkerbot2 saying that there had been defamation of the Berry Gordy article by my ip address. I(or anyone using my computer) have never edited the Berry Gordy page and I can only presume that tawkerbot2 has made a mistake beyond failing to recognize vandalism or non vandalism.

I am not at all worried by this but simply thought you would want to know. If you want any more information please don't hesitate to contact me. Maniacgeorge 16:55, 13 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Question about early-close AfDs[edit]

What constitutes an AfD as being eligible for early closing? I've read the policy...there was a one-sixth minority (not 98%) on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Rob Levin (second nomination) who agreed with me and it was closed early. There is a unanimous consensus on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Cop math that agree with me and it is still open. Why close Rob Levin early? There's a hot debate going on about it, and the AfD wasn't given the full run. --JStalk 23:46, 19 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Digg as a ref[edit]

Hello! Digg itself is user-driven, which marks it as not reliable. It is not better than using GameFAQs, a forum post or a blog. However, most Digg articles point to a valid reference (eWeek, CNN, BBC, etc). Per suggestions, In general it is preferable to cite the original source for an assertion, as well as important confirming sources. It is generally preferable to cite reliable sources over less reliable sources when given a choice. In this case, pointing to a story in Digg adds an extra click the user must do in order to reach the real source, and a bunch of comments by common users that are not useful for the reader. Thus, when the reference pointed by the Digg post is valid, I replace the Digg one with the real reference. When the story pointed by Digg goes down, it is better to remove the link to the Digg story, as the user wanting to check the information will arrive to a chat room with no link. In these cases, either I remove the link and add a {{fact}} call, remove the assertion if it was an obscure one, or replace the Digg link with the broken reference, hoping others will assume good faith and believe the link, at one time, worked. I don't do this with Digg only, but with any heavily user driven site like Slashdot, Reddit, Blogspot, etc. Hopefully that clarifies the matter. -- ReyBrujo 02:04, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If you check http://www.opendns.com/stats/, you will notice that the peak it reached on July 10 is half the peak reached on September 15, however there is no mention to that fact. And that such peak is basically the common reach the site has nowadays. In other words, the example could work better in an article about Slashdot effect than there. -- ReyBrujo 02:26, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Cydebot[edit]

Yo, get on IRC, what's up? --Cyde Weys 17:30, 20 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

September Esperanza Newsletter[edit]

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
