Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: Name represents the Russian satellite Sputnik. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. Alexnia (If you reply here, please leave me a {{Talkback}} message on my talk page.) @ 13:32, 1 October 2008 (UTC)

Hertha BSC Berlin seasons

I've created a Category:Hertha BSC Berlin seasons for the season articles you have created but I noticed that the article names are all different. It might be a good idea to come up with one common name and move the others there. My suggestion would be to follow the Hertha BSC Berlin season 2008–09 exaple and move the other two to Hertha BSC Berlin season 2007-08 and Hertha BSC Berlin season 2006–07. EA210269 (talk) 00:40, 30 March 2009 (UTC)

I have moved the articles to have one common name in line with wikipedia policy. You created quite a mess there, having the 2008-09 article twice! I made the second one a redirect, we really don't need it twice! EA210269 (talk) 00:35, 2 April 2009 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi Sir Sputnik, hi Creet!

Thank you guys for your support with the Magic Pro Tour articles. I think we all did a great job in creating some articles, which will be a great help to anybody, desiring information about the Pro Tour.

Hi Sir Sputnik,

I have left a redlink to the 2009 summer transfers at Fußball-Bundesliga 2009-10 in its "See also" section. If you like, you can bring it to life... :-) By the way, have you seen Wikipedia:WikiProject German football yet? You would complement our squad very well... As a current or past contributor to season articles within Wikipedia:WikiProject Football, I thought I'd let you know about the season article task force, a collaborative effort to improve Wikipedia's coverage of season articles of all kind. If you would like to participate, join by visiting the task force page. Thanks!

The reason for this invitation is the attempt to establish a season guideline for club season articles. If you look at 2009–10 FC Bayern Munich season, Eintracht Frankfurt season 2009–10 and Hertha BSC season 2009–10, you will see that each of those articles has a different layout and different contents. In general, you could say that for each of these articles, which significantly obstructs the readability when jumping between season articles. In order to achieve a common standard, a discussion has been started at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Football/Season article task force#Club season articles. Please voice your opinion! --Soccer-holicI hear voices in my head... 00:35, 29 August 2009 (UTC)

Kenny Cooper

Is this transfer definitely on?

I was thinking of reverting his page but I held off because I saw it was you who made the changes. I've seen you around the project and you seem like a decent chap, so I thought I'd ask what is going on because my German isn't up to scratch! I've seen the article on 1860's website and there is a report in a local newspaper saying he is coming, but our official website merely states that he is one of a number of targets. He sounds good but I don't like getting my hopes up until its confirmed by Plymouth.

Help with sources for an article?

I'm contacting you because you seem to be an active participant of WP:FOOTBALL. I posted this to the project's talk page but just in case it doesn't get noticed there, like on many talk pages, I thought I'd post directly to a user's talk page or two. Lucky you!

I'm going through the articles of Playboy Playmates and trying to source various info. I've run into a bit of a stumbling point in the article for Luci Victoria. She seems to have cause a bit of a stir during the half time of a football match. There were a couple articles referenced which talked about the event but both of those articles are now gone. I'm not at all familiar with where I might find sources for this sort of thing since I don't follow the sport. So, could someone associated with this project help me out? Thanks, Dismas|(talk) 23:29, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

I'm completely unfamiliar with Scottish football vs. German football vs. etc. I'll follow your suggestions for sourcing though. Thanks for the advice. Dismas|(talk) 21:04, 4 February 2010 (UTC)

Goal Keeper Numbers German National football team

Hello! You wrote that the numbers for the goal keeper hav not been anounced officially yet. This is only partially true. The German coach Joachim Löw announced the leading goal keeper (Manuel Neuer), his runner - up (Tim Wiese) and the third goalkeeper Hans Jörg Butt on TV today for the World Cup 2010. Goalkeeper numbers in the German national football team have always been the same since 2000. First goalie: Number 1, second goalie number 12, third goalie number 23. I am German and you can trust me. Before undoing any change, please watch TV! Thank you! Berserc 23:20, 28 May 2010 (CET) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.225.223.34 (talk)

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

Edit summaries and PRODs

Hi, when you propose an article for deletion, could I trouble you to use an informative edit summary? PRODs are supposed to be uncontroversial deletions, so it's only right to give someone a chance to object if they see it on their watchlist or in recent changes. Thanks, HJ Mitchell | Penny for your thoughts? 22:55, 6 October 2010 (UTC)

When you propose an article for deletion, it is expected that uou notify the article's creator. In the case of Henri Aalto, I can't see any such notification at User talk:Geregen2. Furthermore, your proposal's reasoning might be flawed; it seems to me that the Veikkausliiga is indeed a professional league. I suggest you remove the propsed deletion from Henri Aalto's page and review all the others you marked. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:53, 10 November 2010 (UTC)

How come you are suggesting Finnish player's articles being removed? Is there some way of stopping this process as it seems unfair towards the Finnish wikipedians and football writers.

Hi Sir Sputnik. This footballer played 4 matches in the Serbian SuperLiga, more preciselly in the First League of FR Yugoslavia in the season 2001-02. I also beleave he played in the top league before, during the 1990s, but I still need to find internet sources for that period. Afterwords he played in Cyprus and Slovakia. Currently he plays in the Montenegrin First League wich I know that is not considered fully pro. How can I further help on this? Best regards, FkpCascais (talk) 19:45, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Angelos Tsiaklis

Quick question, and apologies that I do not speak footy. It appears the primary change from the last AFD for this article is that he now plays for Anorthosis. I cannot quickly discern, but does that qualify as professional or semi-professional? Will delete if that change still does not meet the criteria for WP:ATHLETE. Kuru (talk)

Estonian footballers who have not played in a fully professional league

Hey, there are still some articles about Estonian footballers that have not been nominated for deletion. Though it is not a complete list, this might still help you:

Andreas Aniko, Antti Arst, Andrei Kalimullin, Aleksandr Kulik, Andrus Mitt, Vitali Teleš

Furthermore, there is one poor guy who has no citizenship and also fails the notability guide:

Maksim Gruznov

--Lipik (talk) 06:00, 28 December 2010 (UTC)

Kalimullin and Kulik both meet the notability criteria. Same with Gruznov, due to significant media coverage of the League's all-time appearance and goal scoring record holder (UEFA.com, article in World Soccer magazine among other crap.) Having said that, I do find it ridiculous that notability of one of the country's most prolific footballers of the past 15 years is put into question, whereas this player, who has never played for a professional club, let alone playing in a professional league, is considered to be notable by default. I'd really expect a bit more than semi-automatic editing and tagging from someone with this much spare time at his hands. BanRay 09:12, 30 December 2010 (UTC)
Some of them should be kept. Vanna and Teleš haven't played in a fully pro league? Aniko and Arst are beach soccer national team players (Mitt was also), so no question about that, right? I would keep Kasimir and Artjunin also. Pelmeen10 (talk) 21:48, 1 January 2011 (UTC)

I see you want to delete articles, but keep in mind: Meistriliiga top teams Flora, Levadia, Trans and Kalju are strong teams even though Meistriliiga isn't fully professional. It's not their fault that lower teams are not professional. These teams could manage well in professional leages, just there is no possibility. The rule here, in Wikipedia, is quite weird. The rule has made to avoid articles that are not notable. THERE ARE NOTABLE FOOTBALLERS IN ESTONIA ALSO!! People search their articles from Wikipedia and that is the point of Wikipedia isn't it? I don't mind if you delete articles like Aleksei Galkin. Pelmeen10 (talk) 17:37, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

I am calm, just wanted to make myself clear :). I would keep Kaas beacause he was called up in a national team and Kasimir beacause of his UEFA appearances. About that C-class thing, I'm quite busy, but Wikipedia is a place for volunteers, anybody can expand those. Pelmeen10 (talk) 18:32, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Re

I didn't know that the Estonian Meistriliiga is not fully professional but Sergei Lepmets played for FC Levadia Tallinn which is a professional club. Where is it stated that a football player is notable only if he played in a fully professional league? BineMai 18:04, 9 January 2011 (UTC)

Hello, I was updating the Serbian SuperLiga winter transfers list when I found that you proded this player. The problem is that he played in the top league back in early 2000´s, see here. He probably played more seasons until Montenegro break-away from Serbia iun 2006. I am still missing his entire career so I could complete his article, but this at least gives some info regarding the prod. He seems to have signed with FK Borac Čačak, which playes in Serbian SuperLiga so he will probably further comepete in pro leagues. I will try to gather more info on him in next days so the article can be completed. How can I further help you on this? FkpCascais (talk) 16:51, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Oops, he seems to have signed with Bosnian Premier League FK Borac Banja Luka and not the Serbian one, thus continuing his career in a not-considered pro league. FkpCascais (talk) 16:53, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

This article shouldn't be deleted, because he has played to matches for AEP Paphos in Cyprus, and it is a fully professional league, so the reason for deletion is wrong.

Hello. Thanks to an almost invisible link at WP:NFOOTY I hadn't realised there was a list available of the leagues considered fully professional or not fully professional and that the BiH Premier League was considered not fully pro. Without knowing for certain one way or the other I'm a bit sceptical about this, so I followed up the authority cited. In fact the relevant article of the BiH PL Constitution doesn't seem to refer to League appearances but rather covers general club employment practices, so I continue to oppose the deletion but I now see that you had Wikipedia-substantiated grounds for proposing the deletion. You very fairly reproduced the points I made at the discussion page at the AfD discussion. Nevertheless I hope you will understand why I still think it's best also to respond at the place where someone making a point is likely to see it first - meeting a tag is a very disconcerting way of receiving a reply. Opbeith (talk) 22:12, 2 April 2011 (UTC)

For your information, I've posted the following at the Discussion page of User:Postdlf who has now closed the discussion of your proposal for deletion of the Jasmin Čampara article with the article's deletion. My main concern is less with Jasmin Čampara himself (and certainly there are a lot more serious Bosnia-related issues at Wikipedia calling for attention) than with the general issue this discussion has raised. The question of "association football notability" highlights the way Wikipedia "policy" is often enthusiastically deployed as a general house-keeping tool when it has no objective legitimacy, but the discussion also illustrates the lack of interest in critical engagement with the deficiencies of policy shown by the people who cite "policy" so authoritatively. Just look at the unhesitant confidence of the comments that follow your own and mine. There's no reason why people shouldn't disagree with me with regard to Čampara's notability as such, but not even the slightest hint of doubt concerning the merits of a policy whose authenticity has been challenged? Anyhow, this is my post to User:Postdlf, for whatever interest it may hold for you.::"You deleted the Jasmin Čampara article without offering any comment on the discussion concerning the proposal for deletion. In the absence of another explanation I presume your decision was based simply on the general support for deletion, drawing almost entirely on the criterion for association football notability given at WP:NFOOTY. The policy as stated relies explicitly on Wikipedia:FPL and no other source of guidance is mentioned.
Neither you nor the supporters of deletion gave any indication of having given any meaningful consideration to the inadequacy and inconsistency of the guidelines either generally or in the specific case of the Bosnian Premier League, some aspects of which I drew attention to in my contributions to the AfD discussion.
The key criterion for notability is the "full professionality" of the league of which a player's club(s) is(are) a member. However "Full professionality" is not defined anywhere. Instead Wikipedia:FPL simply provides ad hoc lists of "fully professional" and "not fully professional" leagues, offering no guidance as to the rigour of the supporting evidence required for inclusion in either category. In fact the supporting evidence is fairly haphazard (eg a webpage reference to the founding of the Argentine Primera Division as a professional - as opposed to amateur - league ion 1931) and often inadequate/inaccurate (the Bosnian Premier League Constitution reference is not conclusive in the way that is implied) or non-existent (the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A and Serie B references and several others are not available). In other words the criterion simply cannot be be applied in an even generally consistent way.
Wikipedia:FPL carefully notes "This advice is not a formal Wikipedia policy or guideline, though it may be consulted for assistance during an AfD discussion or when considering creating a standalone article." That tone of caution, derived from lengthy discussion, is not in any way reflected in the wording of the WP:NFOOTY guidelines, in the way the guidelines are generally deployed or in the discussion and decision relating to the Jasmin Čampara article. Essentially the whole structure of "policy" in this area is nonsensical (as many conscientious contributors to Wikipedia:FPL have noted). Too often Wikipedia decisions are taken on the basis of authoritative pronouncements on policy made from the commanding heights of a house of cards. I'm a little surprised that you as Doctor of Jurisprudence consider summary deletion an adequate way of considering this issue. I believe that this decision is a candidate for review."

Fully pro leagues

I would like to reply to your comment made at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Oļegs Malašenoks. I am replying here since that afd will probably be closed shortly. While the Virsliga clearly isn't an amateur league, there are some part-timers playing there. In order to grant notability to the players playing in a certain league, there must be clear sourcing that all players playing in that league are full-time professionals. This is not the case in Latvia. I hope that answers your question. Cheers. Sir Sputnik (talk) 19:39, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

Thank you for information, but interesting that in Latvian Higher League not "fully pro". But in my mind must be clear sourcing that all players playing in that league are not full-time professionals--Noel baran (talk) 08:40, 10 May 2011 (UTC)

Albanian Superliga

The Albanian Superliga is a fully professional football league which is part of UEFA and which allows teams to qualify for both Champions League and Europa League. So there is no need to put my pages up for deletion as there many Blue Square Premier League players pages on here even thoguh that is not a fully pro league. Thanks. Oltianruci (talk) 19:10, 19 May 2011 (UTC)

Sir Sputnik I trust that technically you are correct, the Albanian, Macedonian, and Montenegrin top leagues are not fully professional. That's why I think that based on the wiki policy you are on the money. Still, the policy can be and should be changed. I will take it that you will consider some time to review my thoughts here? Football Transfers

Re your message - my edits are always sourced with references and whilst I agree that the transfers only take effect from 1 July when the window opens, I'd suggest you are trying to stop something which will be changed by edits anyway - and probably ones which are unsourced from IP editors. I'd rather concentrate on adding sourced changes and the reality is that if a club announces something (like Liverpool's Jordan Henderson deal yesterday and all elements - transfer, medical and personal terms concluded, then someone will add it. Better it is sourced than a random IP edit. Zanoni (talk) 16:42, 10 June 2011 (UTC)

Adding AfD to WP:FOOTY

Hey thanks for the heads up, I always wondered how articles get listed there, I thought a bot would automatically place them. I listed it here, [6] and I thought that was the main page to list AfD'd pages for WP:FOOTY (I just followed the instructions on there). Maybe someone should add a line simliar to the one found on the link I posted ("Edit this page and add .tag. to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear.") to the WP:FOOTY article, so that people like me that are not too familiar with the process can add the articles. Thanks. Sorry for the misunderstanding, but that seems almost ridiculous to ask. That's like me saying, "provide sources that the bundesliga is a pro league" on German player's article. There is a full article, and considering they have spots in the Champions League, they are fully professional. On a similar note I saw you left PRODs on many Latvian player articles that they weren't in a fully professional league.
