Prison education

Hi Shushugah. Thanks for stating your willingness to help at Prison education at GMG's talk page. Obviously help of any kind is appreciated. If you're not sure where to start though it would be good to just have a new set of eyes read everything and make suggestions for what needs work. Essentially just doing an FAC type review, before it's actually at FAC. The goal is to renominate it there so any comments on what might need to be done to get it to pass through that process are welcome. Or if you'd like to help in another way please let me know. No worries if you're too busy or anything though, just thought I'd follow this up once. Have a nice day. :) Damien Linnane (talk) 06:49, 1 August 2021 (UTC)

Thanks again for your comments. The FAC nomination is now live: see here. If you have the time to comment there I'd appreciate it, and let me know if you need comments on a review somewhere. Cheers. Damien Linnane (talk) 23:05, 19 September 2021 (UTC)
Hi again. The nomination is about to be pushed down to the 'Older nomination' section, and while support is unanimous to far, based on my prior experience with FAC there just haven't been enough comments yet to reach a consensus. If you have the time to take another look I would appreciate. Just thought I'd bring this up once more; I'll leave it with you from here. Have a nice day. Damien Linnane (talk) 23:19, 8 October 2021 (UTC)
@Damien Linnane congrats on the DYK and successful FAC nomination! My biggest inspiration/takeaway was to be persistent in encyclopedic global coverage, despite unevenness in geographic sources available. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 11:50, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, I appreciate your comments. And very glad to hear my work can serve as an inspiration for similar things. :) Damien Linnane (talk) 13:06, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Engmaj (talk) 18:26, 13 December 2021 (UTC)Thank you for your suggestions. I have incorporated some into the DYK nomination. I agree that the article should have more categories. I'm on a deadline for something non-Wikipedia related but will go back and add some. So, links within articles should be kept to things within Wikipedia itself? Good to know. Again, thanks. WikiDonation template

Hello! With your new template I noticed that if a user uses the reply tool, the colon to indent is placed at the commented text and so the actual template reply is unindented. I think this can be solved by moving the commented text to the bottom. I can make this change myself if you tell me how I would edit the template to show this. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 19:34, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

Blaze The Wolf I am on phone now so cannot easily test it myself but makes sense. Given that it’s substituted and not a live/actively used template you have my encouragement to make test edits and revert if needed. The formal testing process otherwise is to make a copy at Template:WikiDonation/sandbox and then call {{WikiDonation/sandbox}} somewhere using both reply function and a source mode edit. Another possible solution is to add : again on the 2nd line ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:05, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
Alright. But how would I make these changes to the actual template? Is there some source code page I can't access or can I simply just edit the text that is used in the template on the page for the template. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 21:06, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
You should be able to edit Template:WikiDonation directly. I’ll double check default permissions but cannot recall any default protection for templates. I didn’t add any in any case. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:08, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
@Blaze The Wolf Am on computer now. This is the link, if you're unable to edit, you'll see the source code without an option to edit it locally or save. See this external link [1] ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 21:29, 9 December 2021 (UTC)
When you moved the commented text you forgot to remove the leftover space from where it was. Due to it automatically inserting the signature it appears to be incompatible with the reply tool since the reply tool doesn't know that it will do that, and so it automatically inserts a signature. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:10, 10 December 2021 (UTC)
I see that you have made recent changes attempting to stop the Reply function from duplicating the signature. My testing (on my User Talk:Verbarson page) shows that the signature is currently still doubled up by the Reply tool. I have therefore added a warning on Template:WikiDonation/doc.-- Verbarson (talk) 22:28, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Would simply removing the signature be a solution? Enabling its usage in visual editor without source code would be easiest, and allow for source mode editors to add their signature anyways? Thanks for checking it/updating the docs ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 22:38, 12 December 2021 (UTC)
Sounds reasonable. Adding a sig is a matter of habit.
If you remove the signature, we would not have subst it, but then it would always appear with the latest text. Possibly a bad idea for talk pages - you don't want to get a reply, then when you go back later find it has changed?
So - remove the signature, keep the subst? Verbarson (talk) 00:21, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

yeah definitely keep the subst because we don’t want to change text and mislead people. Perhaps a future template is more harshly worded etc… ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 00:24, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

Random suggestion about the template but maybe an alternative way to use the template would be {{subst:wikidonation}} (all lowercase) since I think most templates use all lowercase in the wikitext to invoke them except for yours, so just writing it all lowercase doesn't work. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:39, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
Also, maybe there should be a version of the template for registered users who have an account but don't know that they can disable the banners? ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:41, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
@Blaze The Wolf created {{subst:wikidonation}} redirect which is all lowercase now. I don't have a strong opinion on creating more/alternate templates. I'd prefer to keep it simpler, as the usage of {{wikidonation}} is likely limited as is. You could create your own template, or edit the existing one to not assume it's an IP address. Be WP:BOLD ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 20:45, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
I don't actually know how to create my own template since from my knowledge that requires writing code so it functions correctly. ― Blaze The WolfTalkBlaze Wolf#6545 20:52, 13 December 2021 (UTC)
@Blaze The Wolf if you ever want to learn how to make Templates, am happy to support you. This is a good example of something with minimal code. The signature was the most complex part, and even I simply removed altogether it as a pragmatic solution. You can read more at Help:A quick guide to templates. To create a template like you suggested, you could open Template:Wikidonationsigned and enter whatever written english you want. It would work as {{Wikidonationsigned}} already. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 20:57, 13 December 2021 (UTC)

DYK for Volkswagen worker organizations

On 1 January 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Volkswagen worker organizations, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that on initiative of the Volkswagen worker organizations, Volkswagen formed one of the first Global Works Councils in 1998, an extension of the existing European Works Council? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Volkswagen worker organizations. You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Volkswagen worker organizations), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Sorry - was going to start the GAN for Banjarmasin (created the subpage) but noticed it was removed from the list on the backlog drive, and it turns out you had planned to review it. Do you want to take it instead? If so then I'd be happy to hand it over - I haven't started yet. eviolite (talk) 00:10, 3 January 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for responding regarding my Wikipedia drama.

As I said, I had a page (not a draft) that was active for 7 years until recently when someone said it needed more citations. Couldn't find the person who originally created this page so we tried editing and added more than forty accurate citations that cite my work over the years, awards, and direct references. If you look at the draft you can see who I am and why the page was there to begin with.

If there is a consensus that my work is no longer "notable" (it was for seven years) so be it. Delete me.

If not, is there any way for you (you seem to be objective) to look it over and can we chat either via email or telephone?

I have some other email accounts and will give you my mobile number if necessary. I am almost 72 years old now and would like to clean this up.

WikiCup & the Good Article Nomination Backlog Drive

Hi there, you're receiving this note because you're currently signed up for the 2022 WikiCup and don't yet have any points in the competition. As you may know, scoring any points in the first round is traditionally sufficient to advance to the second, and a fast way to get 5 points is to complete a good article review. Given that the January 2022 Good Article Nomination Backlog Drive is active for another 10 days, you might be interested in pitching in. Complete one review, and you'll be on to the next round in WikiCup; complete two or three, and you'll also be eligible to win some barnstars. As always, quality reviews with attention to detail are expected. Cheers, --Usernameunique (talk) 19:40, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

@Usernameunique I'm the third most active contributor in the GANBD at the moment, I was planning on tallying my scores at the end of the month for the WikiCup (along with some GA/DYK nominations of my own), is there a deadline soon tho? Kind regards ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 19:51, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
Shushugah, yep, that's the consequence of quickly making a list of people with 0 points in the WikiCup and sending a mass message their way. Do note that per Wikipedia:WikiCup/Scoring, "In the spirit of fair play, contestants have 14 days to nominate their work after promotion (for good and featured content), appearance on the main page (for did you knows and in the news articles) or the completion of good or featured article reviews and featured list reviews, by entering it on their submissions page." If a couple are past the deadline at this point, I wouldn't worry; the first round isn't particularly competitive, so missing out on a few points won't hold you back. --Usernameunique (talk) 20:00, 22 January 2022 (UTC)

GA review of First homosexual movement

Hello Shushugah. I'm about to start a copy-edit of First homosexual movement. I see that you recently agreed to conduct a GA review of the article; you may wish to wait until I finish my copy-edit to begin your review. I anticipate finishing within the next 12 hours. @Rublov thanks for letting me know! That's great to hear! If you want feedback on anything, am happy to give suggestions as well on copy-editing/styling ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 18:53, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
Sure, if you want to take a look at my changes, any feedback would be welcome. Rublov (talk) 20:46, 23 January 2022 (UTC)
Hi Shushugah, the copyedit has been done. Do you know when you might be able to get to the review? If you're not able to do it, I can ask for another reviewer. Thanks, (t · c) buidhe 01:46, 5 February 2022 (UTC)

The article Volkswagen worker organizations you nominated as a good article has failed ; see Talk:Volkswagen worker organizations for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. Message delivered by Legobot, on behalf of Mujinga -- Mujinga (talk) 20:21, 9 February 2022 (UTC)

Devil in Christianity GAReview

Hello again. I see there is a request for a second opinion on the review page of this article, and that no progress has been made for a couple of weeks. I can certainly offer a second opinion, but I am wondering if you might prefer me to just take over the review entirely. If you are committed to it, don't let me interfere, but if you have too much on your plate and would like to let this one go, just ping me. We will ask the nominator and move on accordingly. Features for new users coming soon (and mentors, like you, wanted!)

Hello. As you're listed as a host at the Teahouse, I wanted to make sure you're aware of the imminent rollout of new Growth Team Features which every new account will be getting by default. Each users will soon see a new 'Homepage' tab next to their User page. It contains two main elements which might impact on your involvement - and you'd be welcome to get involved and help out directly with one of them.

  • Firstly, they will be offered a range of 'suggested edits', and encouraged to make simple improvements to pages that interest them. (Being aware of this feature would be helpful for all Teahouse hosts if you're likely to offer advice on tasks for them to start out doing.)
  • There's also a 'Your impact' box to show them how many people have seen the pages they've just edited.
  • Finally, each new user is randomly assigned a 'mentor' from a list of friendly, experienced editors, like yourself. If they get stuck, they can ask a question directly to them via a Your mentor box, and hopefully get a swift, friendly answer from that mentor. Currently, this feature is given to 2% of new users, but it's set to increase to around 10% in the very near future.

To spread the load on our current list of around 65 mentors, I'm reaching out to ask if you'd like to help out and sign up as one? The workload is relatively small; User Panini! reports receiving four questions a month, on average, all of which were simple ones of the type we already get at the Teahouse, whilst I've had just one in the last 3 weeks. To view a list of every question asked of all mentors over the last 14 days, click here.

If becoming a mentor and being available to help new users on their first few days here interests you - just as have done at the Teahouse in the past - then please consider signing up at Growth Team features/Mentor list. But please only do so if you are genuinely willing to be available to help. Existing users can already 'opt-in' to seeing the Newcomer Homepage features via their Preferences.

Thank you! Nick Moyes (talk) 14:58, 25 February 2022 (UTC)

Abandoned reviews

Shushugah, you still have the following open GA reviews, started as part of the last backlog drive in early January, but which you haven't touched since late January: Talk:OpenVMS/GA1, Talk:Adam Naruszewicz/GA1, Talk:Hasan ibn Ali/GA1, and Talk:Guido Imbens/GA1. Can I assume that you won't be returning to them, and that we should find other reviewers for them? Please let me know. If you haven't replied within seven days, I will place them under second opinion in hopes of finding another reviewer. Thank you. BlueMoonset (talk) 17:15, 16 March 2022 (UTC)

Posting to note that, the seven days having expired, I have placed all four nominations under second opinion in the hopes that a new reviewer will pick them up and finish them. I hope you are well. BlueMoonset (talk) 04:05, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
BlueMoonset I have been giving that second opinion on Devil in Christianity. I am only temporarily held up because my mother died last week and I am in the process of closing her estate which both the author and Shushuga are aware of. I have every intention of finishing that review within the next week or so. Jenhawk777 (talk) 04:32, 24 March 2022 (UTC)
Jenhawk777, I am so very sorry to read about your mother. Please, take whatever time you need, and thank you for taking on the review. BlueMoonset (talk) 05:01, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the sympathy and understanding - and the extra time. Once I get back home it will go quickly I think. Should a change in status be posted at the GA page? Jenhawk777 (talk) 13:37, 24 March 2022 (UTC)

BlueMoonset I am finally home and will begin reviewing again. I have attempted to change the reviewer name on the talk page and at the GAR page and have had no luck. It still shows Shushugah as the reviewer. Do you know how to fix that? Jenhawk777 (talk) 06:06, 10 April 2022 (UTC)
Jenhawk777, when people take over existing reviews, the original reviewer typically remains up top on the review page (and thus on the WP:GAN page), so Shushugah is going to stay there. New reviewers typically announce themselves in a new level-3 header and gets to work. If it's important to you, we can mention the change in the "note=" field of the GA nominee template on the article's talk page. BlueMoonset (talk) 06:36, 10 April 2022 (UTC)

GAR of Devil in Christianity is complete and needs your response

I have finished the review [2]. I believe any and all issues have been successfully addressed and that this article currently meets all the criteria for a good article. It should be passed. I would do it, but you are still listed as the reviewer, so I can't without going through a big rigamarole. Yes I know that means you will get the credit, but it's not a big deal. The article deserves the credit. Thank you! Jenhawk777 (talk) 20:44, 18 April 2022 (UTC)

Deletion discussion about Microsoft and unions

Hello, Shushugah, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Dr vulpes, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, Microsoft and unions, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Microsoft and unions.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not ballot-polls. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

If you have any questions, please leave a comment here and prepend it with {{Re|Dr vulpes}}. And, don't forget to sign your reply with ~~~~ . Thanks!

I really appreciate the way you handled the Microsoft and Unions article discussion. You handled everything in a professional and kind way and this meant a lot to me as a new page reviewer. For some reason I just didn't think to rename the article which in hindsight is pretty silly of me. You've done a lot of impressive work and I hope to I run across more of your articles in the future.

Dr vulpes (💬📝) 20:23, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Dr vulpes thank you for your kind words and recognizing my professional/kind demeanor. Ultimately, we're all here to improve Wikipedia. Receiving a notification for AfD is definitely not the nicest feeling, but you made your concerns clear and a solution was possible. One specific feedback I'd give, is to include an indication of what WP:BEFORE search you've done. Admittedly, searching Microsoft Union returns a lot of noise, both about recent US Labor neutrality agreement/general microsoft documents for unrelated union activity. I did additionally find Temporary Workers of America, who were part of CWA Washington Alliance of Technology Workers (a red link with many links across Wiki).[1] ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 18:34, 1 July 2022 (UTC)

your RfA

Hi. First of all, thanks a lot for running. I really appriciate, and respect your gesture. The reason I came here is, your RfA is currently having ups and downs. I request you to not to withdraw for at least 3-4 ways, no matter how shaky it gets. I hope you get more than 75% support. Thanks again, —usernamekiran (talk) 22:08, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

I also kindly urge you not to withdraw for at least a few days and wish you good luck in the process :) — Ixtal ( T / C ) Join WP:FINANCE! 10:41, 10 August 2022 (UTC)

  • While I can't personally support your nomination at this point, I wanted to tell you that I'm impressed by your attitude. Even though the RfA is unlikely to pass, your behaviour remains exemplary. Kudos for being cool about it, even though opposition can hurt! If in the future your activity has shifted more and you decide to run again, your chances might be better.
And even without a mop, do stick around! We need friendly Teahouse hosts just as much as we need admins – I know that, for without the Teahouse to help in the beginning, I might have given up on Wikipedia :) --LordPeterII (talk) 18:58, 11 August 2022 (UTC)
  • I intend to let this RfA run its full 7 day period. No matter what the results will be, I am deeply grateful for the civility and consideration by all participants thus far, especially those with oppose rationals. This potentially reflects a positive change in RfA culture. In the slim chance this succeeds, this RfA will never be an outright home-run. In the event it does not success, the civility/cordiality afforded means I would be very open to re-nominating/being nominated again in the future. Either way I absolutely have a lot of reflections/improvements to make. There is no basis for forcing you to withdraw your nomination, but I think the above comment at the RfA is misguided, albeit well-intentioned. You have nominated yourself and your percentage of support is well below that needed to pass. Moreover, the support percentage is relatively constant, hovering in the 50s. Also, the opposes follow similar themes, e.g., not enough experience, insufficient understanding of policy, and no real need for the tools - to name a few. Yet, you insist on putting the community through a process, which, even in the best of circumstances, tends to be difficult, apparently so you can obtain more feedback for the future. There are other ways to achieve that goal without an actual RfA. Plus, I seriously doubt you are going to get any new feedback. I encourage you to withdraw.--Bbb23 (talk) 16:50, 12 August 2022 (UTC)

  • Although I opposed your bid, I wholeheartedly encourage you to come back sometime in the future. After writing some good articles and pitching in at NPP or GOCE, I have no doubt !voters will welcome your resilience and your next RFA will pass. • I'm sorry for the way things went down, but I am glad you ran. It gave me an opportunity to know you better, since all I had before this was that one negative experience. Now I also see a willingness to accept responsibility, and learn from one's mistakes and take disappointment in stride. It makes me wish I had not taken my own disappointment in stride at the time, but had nagged you until it was fixed instead! I thought you just didn't care. Now I think it was more from inexperience. On that basis, and because you have demonstrated such a good attitude about all of this, I want to assure you there are no hard feelings on my part, I hope there will be none on yours, and in the future, if you decide to run again after getting that additional experience, I want to offer my support. Perhaps that will carry some weight for you down the road because of this history. Ping me accordingly when you run again. I wish you well.Jenhawk777 (talk) 17:01, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
@Jenhawk777 this was by far the most meaningful message to receive from a fellow editor after my run. I am sorry I wronged you and I am relieved to read that we're on better terms, particularly because we will likely run into each regularly in future GA reviews/backlogs. There are no hard feelings from my part, and it was a humble reminder, that actions as well as inaction can cause a butterfly effect of negative energy. If for nothing else, I am glad my RfA gave us an opportunity to reconcile and co-edit on better terms. Given your areas of interests, I was inspired to read over what our community has summarized in Forgiveness § Religious views. Looking forward to making new memories and quality content together. • Thanks for running, Shushugah: I thought it was exceptional that you held out in the RfA as long as you did considering how intense and unpleasant most people find it. You've maintained a high level of decorum throughout despite many hypocritical oppose rationales and at least one attempt to bullying you into withdrawing though, with all due respect, I can't agree with you here that the RfA has much positive reflection on the en.wiki community. There were valid opposes, however, not just less justifiable ones, so I hope that you take these on board as feedback. My support was genuine, not any sort of "moral support", and I hope to find myself with a "strong support" !vote in a future RfA. — Bilorv (talk) 22:38, 13 August 2022 (UTC)

The article Apple worker organizations you nominated as a good article has passed ; see Talk:Apple worker organizations for comments about the article, and Talk:Apple worker organizations/GA1 for the nomination. Well done! If the article has not already appeared on the main page as a "Did you know" item, or as a bold link under "In the News" or in the "On This Day" prose section, you can nominate it within the next seven days to appear in DYK. I just saw that you made an edit to the draft for article Advanced Bionics and said you would add a photo of the Chorus! Thank you for your contribution it means a lot to me. Do you think you can help me add more pictures to the article? I'm new here and not sure how to do it right. Thank you again!----KentuckyPony (talk) 13:12, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

I will gladly upload a photo to Commons (another Wikimedia project) which is most common way we pull photos onto Wikipedia. See Wikipedia:Uploading images. But I would recommend focusing first on improving the text. Currently most of the draft text is missing inline citations from secondary/independent sources. The corporate background can come from most newspapers, but any medical claims should have highest quality sourcing (WP:MEDRS. I also saw some of your frustrations earlier, and would encourage you to be a little more patient. AB has existed for 30 years, and whether an article takes a week or 3 months is not a long time in big scheme of things. I certainly agree the company is notable and look forward to collaborating with you. Cheers! ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 13:22, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

I wasn't quite sure about the formatting of a lot of stuff that I want to site, so I figured I would add them later, especially the court documents. I have found some good stuff in google books like medical textbooks and an FDA magazine, so would those be good things to cite? I also did a lot of research in self-published sources like lawyer blogs that led to finding some German language sources - I assume are those ok to use too? I've cited some Polish books in other articles I've edited, so i think it should be alright but just want to check. I'm not in much of a rush to do the article, I just really thought it was strange that the article kept going away. However I have found a copy of the old article in the way back archive and it serves as a great starting point to help find sources and stuff.----KentuckyPony (talk) 15:50, 12 January 2023 (UTC) I think the draft is ready can you look at it? It just needs pictures added and any other changes you think it needs just let me know.----KentuckyPony (talk) 20:59, 14 January 2023 (UTC)

A little advice

Hi Shushugah. Can I first say thank you very much for nominating yourself for adminship - placing yourself under community scrutiny is not a fun thing to do, and doing so because we need more administrators is admirable. However, I've been watching and working around RfA for a few years now, and I'm afraid that your RfA is currently at a point that I cannot recall a recovery from, i.e. over 100 votes and under half of them in support. At this point, I would recommend withdrawing, as I do not believe you will gain more meaningful feedback, and the longer you leave the RfA open, the more negativity it will draw - hampering your ability to run again in the future. If you'd like to debrief, please do feel free to contact me and we can discuss options going forward. WormTT(talk) 09:47, 29 March 2023 (UTC)

Yeah I am here for a similar issue. I am also worried a bit for your well being. To receive one oppose with a lot of goodwill is one thing but two with the next one not having a similar amount of goodwill is tough. I hope I still see you around after the RfA because you seem a good editor with important article interests.Paradise Chronicle (talk) 10:35, 29 March 2023 (UTC)
