NBA free agency
[edit]Hi RichieConant,
Please refrain from changing the teams of players who have signed/been traded in free agency until the NBA moratorium ends on July 9, and teams can officially sign. Per WP:SPORTSTRANS, we do not update the infoboxes of players until the transaction is official, either by a league official or by a press release from the team.

"Career number" field in basketball infobox
[edit]Hello - please do not add these to active players. That field, as well as the companion "career position" field, were created for retired players and coaches who formally played to capture the numbers over their career. For active players, their current number is the only one that should be on the infobox. Thanks. Rikster2 (talk) 21:11, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
--RichieConant (talk) 21:35, 10 July 2015 (UTC) I added a section on your talk page. Hopefully you agree with me.
- Richie - per your note on my Talk page - this would be a significant change and my recommendation would be that you suggest it (with your offer to "do the work") at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association or Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball. This way, editors to can weigh in on the idea and we can come to a solid consensus. The goal has always been to keep the infobox relatively brief. One discussion on numbers you may want to read first is at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Basketball/Archive 7#Jersey numbers for retired players. This was an earlier discussion on the "career_number" field that had a range of opinions from doing exactly what you suggest to removing numbers of any kind. Rikster2 (talk) 00:16, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
- Awesome thanks. I just put in my suggestion at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject National Basketball Association. I was wondering if you would be a supporter of this change? --RichieConant (talk) 20:38, 11 July 2015 (UTC)
Refactored your comments
[edit]I made an edit to refactor your recent comments at WT:NBA, moving it down. Generally, comments should be placed chronologically and threaded per WP:THREAD. New comments generally shouldn't be commingled with older ones, as they confuse the actual flow of the discussion, potentially making it looks like someone responded to something they actually didn't. Thanks for contributing at WikiProject NBA! Cheers.—Bagumba (talk) 00:01, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
July 2015
[edit]Hello, I'm Bagumba. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Michael Jordan without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; I restored the removed content. If you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks. —Bagumba (talk) 00:23, 12 July 2015 (UTC)
Jersey numbers in prose
[edit]I saw your edit to Pero Antić to add his No. 6 into the prose. At Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association#Adding_Career_Numbers_to_Active_Players, I had commented that this could look trivial for all but the most notable of numbers; WP:FANCRUFT might be applicable. At his point, there doesn't seem to be a consensus to generally add jersey numbers into the body.—Bagumba (talk) 17:38, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: I believe while it might not be notable enough to include in the infobox, viewers will enjoy noting players different number with different teams. I was currently going to go through the active rosters of NBA teams and include this in all of their pages. This way it would not seem too "trivial" and become a common inclusion on Wikipedia NBA player's pages. I thought it would be fun for me while also being beneficial to player's bios. If you have a better place to include this please let me know. If you are 100% dead set on opposing this edit, I will stop my research. --RichieConant (talk) 17:46, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'm generally opposed, but I am just one person. Wikipedia:Consensus is a site-wide policy that details how decisions are made. However, I do not see consensus currently at the WT:NBA discussion.—Bagumba (talk) 18:02, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: I guess I will just have to wait then. Hopefully others agree with those facts being stated. Just to be clear, you oppose even including this on the pages at all? Even if they are not in the infobox?--RichieConant (talk) 18:21, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- I'm oppose to them being in prose. I'm currently ambivalent to a single line in the infobox.—Bagumba (talk) 18:23, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba:I feel like there needs to be some sort of consistency. They are included in retired players infoboxes, we should include them in active players bios. Either include them in both or not at all. I believe that is what you stated at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_National_Basketball_Association#Adding_Career_Numbers_to_Active_Players.--RichieConant (talk) 18:33, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- Even consistency is subject to consensus. :-) You might want to reconsider your support for inclusion in the infobox at WT:NBA, though you had stated "it might not be notable enough to include in the infobox".—Bagumba (talk) 18:44, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba:Thank you again haha--RichieConant (talk) 18:47, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba:By the way, how do you catch changes so fast? Is there a page I can go to in order to find changes including the NBA Teams/Players?--RichieConant (talk) 18:49, 15 July 2015 (UTC)
- If I have it on my watchlist, I see it. If I don't, I don't. There used to be a tool to monitor all recent NBA project related articles, but it went away. Not sure if there was a replacement, but it was more than I had time to look at anyways. You can ask at WT:NBA if anyone else has a different way.—Bagumba (talk) 17:47, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
- @Bagumba: Great thanks --RichieConant (talk) 18:11, 16 July 2015 (UTC)
