Félix González-Torres - MOS edits[edit]

Hi! Thank you for adding to the Félix González-Torres article, grateful for more editors adding to it! I would just note that the Manual of Style for visual arts lays out some helpful guidelines for what to include in biographies of artists. Specifically, I think we may have passed the limit on the number of individual exhibitions the artist had both during his lifetime and posthumously. Obviously a lot of them are important and should be kept, but the general rule of thumb is to only include up to or around 5 solo exhibitions and the most widely known/historically notable group exhibitions in a dedicated exhibitions section (ie Whitney Biennial, Venice Biennale, etc.). Other notable exhibitions should be incorporated as sequential prose in the career section, with explanations about the subject's artistic style and evolution in the context those events.

Additionally, I think the extensive lists in the intro section are not useful and muddy up the introduction - all that information can be included in the body of the article as prose.

Thank you again for adding to the article! Just wanted to flag these edits before I execute them so you aren't surprised. 19h00s (talk) 20:12, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Also, just to follow up here - when adding information about an artist's past exhibitions, works, or career history, you a) need to have a source for every item you list and b) cannot rely on sources from an artist themself or their gallery. So, in this case, we cannot rely on the artist's gallery CV for information about exhibitions during his lifetime - you can use the CV to ascertain information, but you must then find a separate, citable source (i.e., a published catalogue, a review in a notable/reliable publication, a past exhibition listing on a museum/gallery's website, etc.). Don't want you to put in all the work to add things to articles just to have them taken right back out because they're not sourced properly.
Thanks! 19h00s (talk) 20:20, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for the number of follow-ups, but a final note. You seem to have removed the introductory language in the article regarding the artist's sexuality and its impact on his work - please look at the article's Talk page for past discussions about this issue, I'm re-adding it for posterity. 19h00s (talk) 20:24, 10 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for these notes. The notes are really helpful. The page still reads a bit scattered and disorganized, especially when a reader compares his page to similar historical queer artists from the 80s and 90s. Shortening the individual exhibition list makes a ton of sense. I'll be sure to include external hyperlinks moving forward, too. I reviewed the Talk page as well as lots of online research on the artist and went through some of the artist's books, monographs, and interviews at my library this morning. It looks like the artist's sexuality was really important to his politics and sensibility, which does include his art practice, but not solely his art practice. I've moved the parts about being queer to his politics and community organizing. It looks like there's information about his partner and later works named after his partner that speak to his sexuality. Sounds like we can keep the sexuality for posterity as well as emphasize his conceptual, minimal, and "relational aesthetics" art practice for narrative accuracy. Thanks for the pointers. Peoplelikeyoulikeme (talk) 17:50, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, happy to help! And I hope my notes didn't come as preachy or negative, I am really grateful for more editors to help flesh out this article, he's such a rad and important artist. Happy editing :) 19h00s (talk) 19:07, 11 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An article you recently created, NYC Transgender Oral History Project, is not suitable as written to remain published. It needs more in-depth coverage about the subject itself, with citations from reliable, independent sources in order to show it meets WP:GNG. It should have at least three. And please remember that interviews, as primary sources, do not count towards GNG.(?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Control copyright icon Hello Peoplelikeyoulikeme! Your additions to Dan Thawley have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. February 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Drmies (talk) 16:14, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for the reminder! Peoplelikeyoulikeme (talk) 16:33, 11 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi Peoplelikeyoulikeme! I noticed that you recently marked an edit as minor at Ser Serpas that may not have been. "Minor edit" has a very specific definition on Wikipedia—it refers only to superficial edits that could never be the subject of a dispute, such as typo corrections or reverting obvious vandalism. Any edit that changes the meaning of an article is not a minor edit, even if it only concerns a single word. Thank you. Geardona (talk to me?) 23:09, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for the pointer. I was recently told by another moderator to always mark "Minor edit" when sharing small edits. The edit I did was not consistent with the Title of the section on her page and was an removed as an fact. Peoplelikeyoulikeme (talk) 23:13, 29 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks so much! I've been working on fine arts and artists, galleries, art magazine pages for a bit and expanding into fashion stuff as I study and learn more. Hoping to start with contemporary designers and then build it labels/brands, maybe even have "Selected Show History" section added to all pages in the same way artist pages have "Selected Exhibition History." A tag has been placed on Michael Bullock (writer) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
