This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a search with the contents of New Zealand Media and Entertainment, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: The Radio Network. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally trying to rename an article, please see Help:Moving a page for instructions on how to do this without copying and pasting. If you are trying to move or copy content from one article to a different one, please see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and be sure you have acknowledged the duplication of material in an edit summary to preserve attribution history.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. CorenSearchBot (talk) 01:46, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

The Hits article

Hi, I reverted The Hits article as the changes appear to have obliterated much of the information that was in the previous article, the previous has been in that format since about 2006 and is in line with the other NZ radio station articles such as More FM and The Breeze. The information in the previous article was mostly sourced from those who actually have worked in the radio industry in the past, a large contributor was the writer of a website "The Radio Vault" which is no longer in action. Some of the edits have also made the information incorrect for example the line "Wellington Goldtime Oldies B90FM and Christchurch's Goldtime Oldies B98FM joined the network in 1996.[14]" is incorrect, Wellington and Christchurch became part of Classic Hits in 1993/94 along with the other stations and used the Classic Hits logo from then but their music format was different. I do agree the article needs a tidy up but needs to be done in a way that doesn't remove information and make the information incorrect. Also I think the details of each stations needs to be retained perhaps not in the way this was previously but in some way. Bhowden (talk) 00:32, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the comment - I have moved it to Talk:The Hits (New Zealand) for subsequent discussion. I have also immediately corrected the errors - thanks for pointing them out. Paewiki (talk) 01:38, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Energy FM (Taranaki)

Hi there please leave this page as a standalone record of the stations history. Whilst it may be a legacy station now subsumed into More FM (like many others) it is of significance to New Zealand radio history as the birthplace for independent radio in New Plymouth/Taranaki and as the founding station of what became the Radioworks company. Your experience with Wikipedia so far

Hello Paewiki,

I am conducting research about newcomers to Wikipedia and I was hoping to ask you some questions. I’ve noticed you’ve had some good activity recently. Is there any chance you have time in the next month to speak with me? If you are interested or have any questions, please email me at gmugar [at] syr.edu or leave a message on my talk page.

I hope to be in touch soon,

Rhema Media

Kia ora. I see you reverted "my" edit, saying you were reverting "unexplained removal of sourced content." Actually, my own edit, if you check, only corrected a typo (a hyphenation, I think). I did not change any content at all. That was done by the editor before me.

Hitting the revert button like that makes it appear that I was the one who removed the content, which doesn't look too good for me. A better way would have been to look in the History list, open the last edit before that user's, and do a dummy edit saving that version. (Depending on your settings, there may also be an option to save that version directly). Thanks :-) David Cannon (talk) 07:48, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

Sorry, I will do in that way in future. :) Paewiki (talk) 09:39, 3 October 2015 (UTC)

To Paewiki

I have been updating our Wikipedia page - to reorder the text and to update the sources as many of the sources are out of date and/or highly subjective.

For example: Under Services - "The network targets families, with a strong focus on relationships, marriage and parenting, with a doctrine of special salvation for believers and eternal damnation for sinners.[24] [24 Hoar, Peter. "Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet". The joy or radio. Peter Hoar. Retrieved 8 July 2015]" - this source does not correctly reflect what we are about and, I believe, is highly subjective viewpoint from an external source. We consider this not neutral.

AND "Star is a contemporary Christian music network playing gospel music, hymns and classic Christian contemporary tracks, alongside Biblical teachings. It was set up through a lease on spare programming time when Radio New Zealand's AM Network is not broadcasting sittings of the New Zealand Parliament, and also broadcasts on FM frequencies in smaller centres. Rhema Media described the playlist as "a smooth and easy blend of music from people you know and trust".[26][ 26 ^ "Southern Star". sstar.co.nz. Rhema Broadcasting Group. Archived from the original on 16 February 2008. Retrieved 8 July 2015]" - this also is an old source.

These are two examples of information we would not want on our page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.98.11.42 (talk) 18:40, 2 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Paewiki, thanks for your messages. Appreciate the contact. I'm not the CEO of Rhema Media as assumed in the incident dicussion. Radio articles

I have noticed you appear to be significantly changing the radio articles again removing any consistency between the format of the articles. I do agree some article could be cleaned up an fine tuned but not significantly changed. The first thing I have noticed was the renaming of all the pages of all the old Radio New Zealand heritage stations that eventually became Classic Hits/The Hits. These articles need to keep their original name for historical purposes it seems stupid to have 26 sub articles for The Hits. The same applies to ZM, many of the more recent ZM regions don't deserve their own article as the only thing you could put in there is the stations start date and what frequency the stations broadcasts on, really pointless if you ask me. Instead of reverting your edits I have made the following suggestions for the format we should be going for.

This is the format I think we should be going for: The Hits

  • Main article with details of the station and its history.
  • A run down of what network shows are on the station and a mention of timeslots where local programming is available.
  • A section with a list of stations, what frequency the station broadcasts on and what the station was originally known as, with a link to an article about the original station.

The Hits individual stations Article about the local station with the article kept as the stations final name before becoming Classic Hits. The reason I believe this should be heritage name is because this is what the brand was known as before changing to a uniform brand. The article would contain a full history where known.

ZM

  • Main article with details of the station and its history.
  • List of stations and frequencies, for the stations that once had their own local programming a separate article could exist see below.

ZM Individual Stations

  • ZM Auckland article should contain history of original 1ZM station, a bit of a tough one here as that station became Classic Hits/The Hits but best to be in the ZM Article.
  • Separate articles for ZM Wellington and Christchurch as both stations will have an extensive history.
  • Perhaps an article for Whangarei as this was once local.
  • Dunedin, Invercargill, Palmerston North just needs a mention that programming was originally from Christchurch or Wellington.
  • Nelson should stay under Planet FM article. Hawkes Bay under 96FM article.
  • All other stations don't need an article just a mention on the main article when the station started.

More FM and The Breeze Leave as is, don't go changing the pages about individual heritage stations if you haven't already.

Bhowden (talk) 09:09, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

Hi Bhowden. If we decide to rename all articles to heritage names, I think The Hits Auckland should be renamed 1ZM, and referred to in the ZM article, since the modern ZM station came along separately much later. Paewiki - Paewiki (talk) 11:41, 7 December 2015 (UTC)
On the other matters: I have been splitting off station sections to prevent articles about large networks containing overly detailed information about each individual station (the new articles are all split-offs, and I have only created ZM articles for stations that previously had original content).
I also renamed some heritage station articles to the most recent on-air name, as per WP:RADIONAMING. It there is also a Wikipedia principle of article titles being the most recent name for the topic the article is about, during the period the article covers, even if previous names are more historically significant.
Based on WP:RADIONAMING, a heritage station article like 4ZA could be:
  • named 4ZA, and be about the station until it became Classic Hits 4ZA
  • named Classic Hits 4ZA, and be about the station until it became Classic Hits 98.8
  • named Classic Hits 98.8 or Classic Hits Southland, and be about the station until it became The Hits 98.8
  • named The Hits 98.8 or The Hits Southland
However, if we decide to break away from those conventions and use the original station name, I agree we should do so consistently across all heritage stations. -- Paewiki (talk) 11:37, 7 December 2015 (UTC)

First of all it is interesting to see there is a standard radio articles should follow, I wasn't aware of this. Making the New Zealand station comply to this standard does seem a bit more complex given that most our stations are now national networks, I assume this is not so much the case in places like Australia and the USA where programming needs to cover a greater geographical area and local programming would be more viable with larger populations.

Whether a station should be named with it's heritage name or current name to comply with WP:RADIONAMING would be more tricky for New Zealand given that most our stations cover the whole country and in many cases 26+ markets. In the example on that page for Touch FM it sounds as if they are describing a radio station that covers multiple locations with the same name but is a local station in each market and also it only covers a handful of articles, this differs to the likes of ZM and The Hits where there is very little local programming, in this case an article about the network product seems more sufficient. In some ways you also need to draw a line to consider whether a station is local or networked. I would consider The Hits to be a networked station as despite having local shows most of the content is networked and most of the programming and decisions made for the station would be done from Auckland. Stations like The Breeze in Christchurch and Wellington are a bit different as they are local 13 hours a day and I believe even have their own local management to a point.

As to whether an article about a heritage station should be about the heritage station or the localized name of a station I think a good way to think about it is the same as an article for a local business that took on branding for a national business. I am just using this as an example but if there were a Wikipedia article for a restaurant in Dunedin that suddenly became a McDonalds, you would want to keep the article about the original restaurant not write about McDonalds Dunedin, just an example.

And here is good way to look at how these articles may have appeared if Wikipedia had of been around in the 1990s, following the WP:RADIONAMING standard.

  • In 1990 there would have been heaps of individual radio station articles about local stations, for 1ZM I would assume the article would be called Classic Hits 97FM as that was the unique name for the station. For 1ZB the article would be Newstalk 1ZB. There would also be separate articles for 91ZM Christchurch and ZMFM Wellington. Perhaps all the RNZ commercial stations would be listed on an article for Radio New Zealand.
  • In 1995 things would get a bit more tricky. With all the RNZ heritage stations now taking on Classic Hits branding it may seem relevant to have multiple Classic Hits articles as the heritage name was adapted into most stations branding and most stations were still local stations. Newstalk ZB would seem best to have one article as we have today, if any sub-articles they would be for 1ZB, 2ZB and 3ZB and probably best with their original names as a lot of history could probably be written about these articles, also the change marked a changed in format for these stations. ZM would be no different just an additional article for 93ZM Whangarei. Not sure about 1ZM Auckland from here what is best to use. Also in 1995 More FM articles would be much like the Touch FM example also perhaps for The Breeze. I would assume the articles for 91FM Auckland and Kiwi FM Hamilton you would change to The Breeze Auckland and Hamilton as they were separate local station, same for Radio Windy in Wellington.
  • Between 1998 and 2000 even more tricky. By now Classic Hits is a network brand so it almost seems best to go back to articles about the heritage stations to capture any individual history a station may have had. In this era many local stations were closed down and replaced with network products such as The Rock or Solid Gold so in these cases it would make sense to retain the original article and mention the station was closed down and replaced with the network station. ZM at this point would still have separate articles for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch and mention the smaller stations that were part of these 3 individual networks.
  • Around 2003-2004 with The Breeze being removed from Auckland and Hamilton in the 1990s it would make sense for these articles to be about the heritage station name to remove any confusion between the new The Breeze stations popping up.
  • In 2005 most of these articles were actually started with write ups about stations that had just become More FM or The Breeze. A single article about More FM with a link to a page about the heritage stations makes sense.

Appeal to reinstate the Compass FM 104.9 page

Hi Paewiki, you deleted this page due to insufficient notability. I think this station is sufficiently notable, if only marginally so, in that it is the only station that is North Canterbury focused, is a full power station, transmitting from a unique location, has a large reception area, is a non-profit, and is not supported by New Zealand On Air, and not part of a network, all of which makes it at least as distinctive as some other stations that still have pages. The station has recently appointed a new manager, resulting in a format change, leading to some local controversy. I'm appealing for the reinstatement of the page. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dbuckley (talkcontribs) 19:44, 27 January 2016 (UTC)

New Challenge for Oceania and Australia

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Oceania/The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Australia/The 5000 Challenge are up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. The Australia challenge would feed into the wider region one and potentially New Zealand could have a smaller challenge too. The main goal is content improvement, tackling stale old stubs and important content and improving sourcing/making more consistent but new articles are also welcome if sourced. I understand that this is a big goal for regular editors, especially being summertime where you are, but if you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Oceania and Australia like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1700 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for the region but fuelled by a series of contests to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. The Africa contest scaled worldwide would naturally provide great benefits to Oceania countries, particularly Australia and attract new editors. I would like some support from existing editors here to get the Challenges off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile and potentially bring about hundreds of improvements in a few weeks through a contest! Ngai Tahu

Hi, you've added a disambiguation page, saying that Ngāi Tahu may also refer subtribes of Ngāti Kahungunu and Rangitāne - but I would have therefore expected some mention of that on those two pages. If there is, I can't see it. - Snori (talk) 03:37, 11 February 2019 (UTC)

Stub articles

Kia ora Paewiki - it's good to see a few new articles on Marae and small North Island settlements going into Wikipedia - thank you! One minor point though - if you add a stub template to an article, it should go right at the bottom, after the category links. That way, the stub category is last on the list of categories, out of the way of people trying to navigate between articles. It's no biggie - just a heads-up. Again, thanks and keep up the good work! Tēnā koe, Moriori. Tūhoronuku Independent Mandated Authority identifies a site called Mātoa. Te Puni Kōkiri lists it as a marae with no whare somewhere on Te Kowhai Point Road. I have updated the sentence to hopefully make it a bit clearer. Paewiki (talk)

Waimiha moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Waimiha, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. Currently neither source backs up the assertions in the article. The first does not mention this community, and the second simply leads to a map of New Zealand, without any specificity regarding this community. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). Thanks Encyclopædius for the kind words. I have started adding new article creations to that list. Paewiki (talk) 07:43, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Hi there

Hi Paewiki; just a note to say I've been very appreciative of all you've done on NZ Wikipedia. I'm constantly coming across your name in articles about small towns or Palmerston North suburbs! You're probably aware that User:Schwede66 and I have been tackling macrons (Wikipedia:WikiProject_New_Zealand/Task_force_tohutō), and maybe this in something you'd like to help with. I was also wondering if you've like to join one of the regular online meetups hosted by the Wellington Wikipedians. Despite the name, this regularly includes folks from Australia, Palmy, Christchurch, and Auckland. I'm sure people would be interested to hear about the work you're doing. Kind regards, Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 22:33, 21 May 2020 (UTC)

Thanks very much Giantflightlessbirds, really appreciate the kind words and introduction! I have joined up to the taskforce. Paewiki (talk) 07:43, 4 July 2020 (UTC)

Template:NZ representatives

Are you intending to update {{NZ representatives}}? It needs to account for the changes in both the 2019 local body elections and the 2020 general election. I'm aware it's not used except in the Ruatoria article, but if it's not up to date, it's not going to be added to other articles. If you've moved on from the idea, remove it from Ruatoria and mark it as {{G7}} (I have made a minor update to it, but will delete it myself if you tag it) or nominate it for WP:TFD.-gadfium 21:31, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

Hi gadfium, thanks for alerting me to this. I had forgotten about this template and had since created a similar one. Template:NZ officeholder data should now be up-to-date with the weekend election results; I have marked Template:NZ representatives for speedy deletion. Thanks. Paewiki (talk)
