You tagged this user page for speedy deletion for being "nonsense". That would be the CSD A1 criterion. However, A1 only applies to articles (Main name space). Currently, the only criterion concerning user pages is owner request. If you object to the contents of the user page, please voice your concerns to the user in question, and if you prefer, use the other usual routes beyond that (Miscellania for deletion and, only after spectacularly failing that, the extremely scary arbitration people.) --wwwwolf (barks/growls) 18:38, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, CSD:G1 is patent nonsense and it can apply to user pages too. However, the page is not patent nonsense. patent nonsense is either random characters (like "kfsdhhoiubij90eugthokm") or words that are so confused that nobody could make any sense of them (like "James box blue for the generally eat green Rachel"). Regarding the article on Montecasino

Thank you for the support for speedy deleting this article. Now, are you thinking about deleting the Montecasino images? --Bigtop (customer service - thank you for your cooperation.) 21:59, 2 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tagged them as no source or license, and assuming that they remain so tagged for five days they will be deleted also. Stifle (talk) 11:11, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for the support. I hope you or another administrator deletes these images (probably these images will delete on Friday). --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 16:22, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Your RFA

Hi there! First off, I think it's commendable that you wish to become an administrator; it shows a genuine interest in helping Wikipedia in a positive way. However, I would suggest withdrawing your RFA, as you'll probably receive a lot of oppose votes and I wouldn't want you to feel disheartened and stop contributing, as you're obviously a valuabe contributor. Might I suggest taking a look at some of the recently successful RfA candidates to get a feel of what the community is looking for in an administrator. I'm sure if you try again at a later date, you'll be pleased with the results. Cheers! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 02:47, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi again! Becoming an administrator is not a big deal, but if you feel that the extra buttons will help you become a better contributor or if it would make your time on Wikipedia more fun or productive, I'd be happy to suggest a few ways that might help you. Depending on what your fields of interests are, you can get involved in different parts of the community. If you have an area of expertise, I suggest joining a WikiProject where you can collaborate and edit with like-minded individuals. Also, since you expressed an interest in vandal-reverting, I suggest doing some Recent Changes patrolling and downloading VandalProof. This program will make vandal reversions much easier. Also, perhaps get more involved in WP:AfD AfD's, as that was also a point of interest you mentioned. Non-admins are able to close completed discussions, so try doing that to gain some more experience. In as far as what the community is looking for in an administrator, check out this list of standards some Wikipedians have when voting. Give this list of recently succesful RfA candidates a look. I hope all this helps and if you have any more questions, feel free to contact me anytime! hoopydinkConas tá tú? 03:06, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
But I only have 111 mainspace edits - less than half what the requirements to download VandalProof. I'd rather go focus on articles for deletion! --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 03:11, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry, your time will come. I refer you to this excellent advice I received. Adminship is about a lot more then blocking, there are AfDs, RFPPs, SDs, the MediaWiki namespace, ect. As for VandalProof, I will approve you if you would like. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me. Until then, happy editing, and good luck. Prodego talk 03:14, 7 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

World Cup Sponsorship AfD

Hi, I just wanted to tell you that I’ve made some rather large additions to 2006 FIFA World Cup sponsorship and would appreciate if you could take a look at them and possibly reconsider your comment at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/2006 FIFA World Cup sponsorship. I thought it was a worthy topic, even though it had a wretched article, so I added information about revenue and the sponsorship process, the sponsor related controversies of this World Cup (tickets distribution, Budweiser in Germany, Mcdonalds at a sporting event), and took out the copyvios. Please take a look. Thanks! Vickser 19:39, 8 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Explanation

I was on the anti-vandalism channel on IRC, and I saw this:

User User:Bigtop create containing watch word "jimbo" User:Jimbo Wales doesn't give an American flag""

This is why you are now blocked.

Can you explain why you did this? DS 18:52, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

{{unblock|I'm not a vandalism account. I don't come for vandalism - I should use it for reference, not for vandalism.}}

Ahhh, okay. I misunderstood - you're not registering new accounts to use, you're tagging them as sockpuppets. The problem is that you weren't using edit summaries, so I misperceived it as being an account creation rather than a page creation.
You're unblocked; my sincere apologies. DS 19:18, 9 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have closed your RfA and added it to the list of unsuccessful adminship candidacies in accordance with your wishes. I noticed that you had also requested admin 3 days ago. Many editors consider it innapropriate to request admin more than once within a 3 month period. I would suggest waiting several months and coming back with a little more experience.

Please don't take this as me trying to discourage you. You have a lot of good things to offer Wikipedia, it's just that right now you might be a little bit better as an editor. Feel free to contact me with any questions. Regards, Alphachimp talk 22:46, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Inappropriate vandal warning

With regards to your vandal warning on User_talk:67.167.231.34 re:Template:Country flag alias CRO, if you check the image page for Image:Flag of Croatia.svg, you would have read "Use Image:Civil Ensign of Croatia.svg (2:3 ratio flag) for icons and smaller resolutions (better visibility compared to other 2:3 flags)." That's why I tried to edit the template page. For that you gave me a "last warning"?!? What ever happened to "assume good faith" and following the proper protocol for communicating? 67.167.231.34 06:07, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Had a similar experience myself last night with Bigtop. He/she's apparently brand new to patroling for vandals, and has made at least 2 mistakes in doing so. Patience. --66.69.219.9 10:56, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Same to me as you can see in User_talk:81.184.119.218 regarding to FC Barcelona's article. I only help to revert edits made by one person who takes no care on what it is said in Talk:FC Barcelona about his/her own edits. If you look it up there, this person is not interested in discussing about the appropriate entries the article should have. He/She is against the majority and only spends his/her time in reverting edits to older versions edited by him/herself as well. I don't know if I am reverting correctly but I am sure that I'm not committing vandalism. --81.184.119.218 13:51, 12 July 2006 (UTC).[reply]

Do u know something about Fc barcelona? My edits are spotless

No, I don't - I'm not a soccer fan. Sorry! Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 16:38, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This person who claims "spotless" edits in fact has been a consistent menace to the FC Barcelona page for some weeks. He/she is in dispute with all other editors and refuses to enter into a discussion on the talk page, and also refuses to log in, using a different IP every day. At least so far as your work on FC Barcelona goes (I cannot comment on other pages), keep up the good work Bigtop. Bcnviajero 16:42, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

My edits are spotless, u are the one destroying info and links and making mistakes: "Barça is a polideportivo", "Laporta years", ...

Sigh, this could get as tedious as this individual's messing up of the FC Barcelona page itself. For the record, this individual is collecting the worst edits and accumulating them into one general change that he/she insists on putting back on the page. Each of the changes is either repeated information from other secions or other related pages, incorrect, or irrelevant. I do not know what he/she is referring to by "polideportivo", but the "Laporta years" change is consistent with the rest of the article and has been agreed on the discussion page by other editors. I know this is not the forum to debate the substance of this, but Bigtop, you are on the right track here. Please keep reverting this anonymous individual's vandalism. --Bcnviajero 17:03, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey. I'm the one who editted the Carolina Hurricanes page. I added that they beat a team from Alberta. This is a true fact. Calgary and Edmonton are from Alberta. How is that vandalism if it's a true fact? I don't understand.

You should not put team information on where they're founded on other team pages, such as founding information of an opposing team on another team page. --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 19:25, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the quote in French. Do what you want with it. [1] But if in Wikipedia somebody is accused of vandalism and later one discovers it is a missing quote, certainly my contributions to Wikipedia end here. Orbifold 20:53, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I admit I was quick when I wrote that I had just rearranged sentences, because I did many changes in these days. I did not remember I inserted that comment in that occasion (I do not even remember it was the first time). But I do not think I deserve the accusation of lying for that. I think that it is unfair. Second, this user now admits that the statement is in dispute. But he just deleted it outright. He did not admit earlier that the statement was in dispute. he just deleted it several times. If one is interested in the truth, one leaves the statement, with the source and adds that it is dispute. One does not cancel a claim that is based on a newpaper article and a video interview. Deleting the statement outright is unfair too. My claim is that Zidane told TF1 that Materazzi did not make racist statements. He answers "no" to the interviewer's question and "yes" to the question if they were family insults. That point of the interview is quick but clear enough. And anyway, discussing the point is better than deleting it outright.

Orbifold 21:13, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That user DaveOinSF is insisting that there is only one source, an Italian newspaper, dismissing the original TF1 source. He deletes important information, with the appropriate original French source, on the basis that no English or French transcript reported the news that I reported. However, I simply quoted the original French source, what is better than that? He accused me of lying without checking if I just forgot the order of my interventions on Wikipedia and now he is slowly, slowly admitting that maybe it is worth discussing the point. But he posted an incomplete account of the TF1 interview and admitted he could not play the original videotape. Still he keeps deleting the work of others because his PC cannot play the original videotape. Funny. Orbifold 21:33, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know I'm not an administrator, but you might need to reply to him back. Try if:
  • Your computer can play the video (the video requires Microsoft Windows Media Player),
  • Your parental controls are effective, or
  • Your browser can meet their website requirements.
Make sure you copy these to your talk page and DaveOinSF's talk page. Thank you! --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 21:37, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

SeaMonkey link on Chatzilla page

Hi,

I received your message sent to 82.216.112.245 . Thank you. (I created an account: Stegozor) Although I'm a newbie on Wikipedia, what I added on chatzilla page wasn't a test. I regularly use SeaMonkey and chatzilla that comes bundled with it, and as SeaMonkey team continues the one-in-all suite, formerly known as Mozilla Suite, I thought putting SeaMonkey on the chatzilla page would be relevant.

If you share this opinion, you may put back the internal link SeaMonkey on Chatzilla. I'm not going to do it myself, I newbie should never strike twice :)

Protecting User:Bigtop

Just to let you know, adding {{sprotected}} or {{protected}} to a page is only a means for an admin to notify users that a page is protected. This does not actually confer protection to the article such as the notice you placed on User:Bigtop. If you need help protecting a page, please contact an admin. "Blocked message when I'm not blocked"

Could you please clarify this edit a bit further? Where and how exactly did you get that message? It looks as if you simply pasted in all the wiki markup from MediaWiki:Blockedtext — I can't think of any place where you should be able to see that markup unless you specifically go to that page and click "view source". —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 15:57, 16 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, I can see that. I'd like to find out where the bug is and fix it, but you description is so vague I can't do much with it. It would help if you told me exactly what you were doing when you got that message, and where and how did it appear? I assume the unparsed wiki markup was actually shown to you: was it in an edit box, or in a "view source" window, or perhaps in a box beneath an actual "You have been blocked" message? —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 10:42, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Delete VS AfD

There's probably no need to slap two Speedy Delete boxes and one AfD template on the same article. Speedy exists (AFAIK) for slightly different reasons to AfD. Also, indicating that an article is a candidate for a Speedy Delete because of an AfD consensus doesn't make much sense when there hasn't yet been an AfD consensus on it. Supposed Illiteracy will prevail vandalism....

I have re-edited the supposed vandalism AGAIN. I do not intend for such blatant plagiarism to remain. The article that I edited was STOLEN from here:

http://www.livenirvana.com/sessions/home/december-1985.php

Since you seem to be more worried about people vandalizing your site as opposed to stealing from other sites, I went ahead and edited properly. Yes, there is a link to the website it was stolen from. That is so the entry can remain. If that is not within reason, remove the whole page.

LN does not condone and will not allow theft of documents, not to mention the fact that we are always up to date and most of the Nirvana related entries on your site are way behind.

I caught an anon having fun with your User page

I just happened upon him and caught him on your page. You can upgrade your total to 8 now. VandalProof is a great tool. I've built up quite a fanclub by using it to the point where my own User page has been vandalised 30 times(actually more than 30 but there's a few repeaters in there that I don't bother counting) You're a busy VP user and will likely draw the ire of other vandals over time. I will keep your User page on my watchlist. My page is patrolled by many good Wiki-samaritans. I appreciate it when they roll the trolls away for me. Cheers and take care! I have permission from the Director of LA Freewaves to use this material to create a wiki page. If there is any problem with that, what do I need to do about it?

Somebody should close the nomination. --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 19:58, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How could I close it? Or does someone else have to do it?

An administrator should close it. Thanks! --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 20:04, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There it is! Thank you so much for the quick action, wikipedia rocks!

Um, I think that this page does not belong on Wikipedia. It is blantant advertising.--Kungfu Adam (talk) 20:13, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I'll revert it back. Sorry! --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 20:17, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Wait a minute here, this is a film festival. There are plenty of artistic events on wikipedia. No money is being made, Freewaves is a nonprofit organization. This page will document a small part of LA's film history.

But still Wikipedia does not allow copyright violations. Just ask User:Kungfuadam for details. --Bigtop (tk||cb|em|ea) 20:27, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It's not copyright infringement if I have submitted it to WP:CP as requested by KungfuAdam, I request a debate over the deletion of the LA Freewaves page.

I want the issue of the LA Freewaves page deletion put up for debate. This is not advertisement, this is not copyright infringement (I submitted the information to WP:CP. This is the first page I have ever created on wikipedia and am still learning the process. KungfuAdam seems to be bent on deleting the page, but the fact is, LA Freewaves has been around since 1989 and has had 9 film festivals incorporating artists from around the world. If that's not notable then Sundance should not be on here either. Any artistic event for that matter should be deleted if that is the case.

I went over the LA Freewaves page and took out any subjective words and rhetoric that could be mistaken for advertising. All information contained within the page are based on factual numbers, dates, and participation of artists. There is no copyright infringement since the organization and director of LA Freewaves have given me direct permission to create a page for the purpose of documenting LA Freewaves. Meaning, wikipedia is not held liable for any legal purposes since I have stated that I received permission. The changes can be seen in the temp page.--Freewaves 22:04, 27 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

message I received....

Hello. I received this message from you. I have NO idea what this is. I have never been to the site that suggests that I vandalized it. Would you be kind enough to explain? I don't use Wikipedia very often. Here is what I received from you:

This is your last warning. The next time you vandalize a page, as you did to Onekotan, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. A link to the edit I have reverted can be found here: link. If you believe this edit should not have been reverted, please contact me. Bigtop (tk|cb|em|ea) 02:34, 22 July 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for any help you can offer.

If you wish for this page not to be deleted, I suggest you subst all the templates used on the page, and then remove the categories. This will prevent the page from showing up in places such as CAT:CSD, and will prevent accidental deletion. Thanks, — FireFox (talk) 21:25, 28 July '06

Best paths for deletion of scraps

"Just delete per nom; non-notable restaurant. --Bigtop"
Re. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jolly Roger Restaurant, have you any links or clues how best to proceed? Preferably in a way most conducive to such as Esperanza. The stub did not seem to qualify for WP:SPEEDY. I found WP:PROD after starting. I'm rather a neo and I've been focusing on learning such as WP:WIAGA. Thanks, --[User:GoDot|GoDot]] 05:50, 29 July 2006 (UTC)

Please expand "per nom: non-notable restaurant" Any links or clues would be appreciated, --GoDot 14:05, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Toward consensus

Dear sir
Re. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Jolly Roger Restaurant, I am seeking consensus. Toward meeting your interests, the topic already exists in improved and in complete form, per Wikipedia standards, in context, at Lake City, Seattle, Washington#Storied past. The piece was chopped out. The damage was soon repaired, and I've been trying to clean up this uprooted duplicate leftover. For Wikipedia quality, I would prefer disposing of this odd snippet, rather than leaving a scrap lying about. I am the original researcher and author of the topic in the article, post [3]. The Jolly Roger story is an integral part of the character of Lake City, but it is otherwise not particularly encyclopedic.

So toward consenus, would you change your vote to delete? Thank you for your consideration. --GoDot 14:05, 30 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wickethewok's RFA

Thanks for your support on my RFA. The final vote count was (61/9/3), so I am now an administrator. Feel free to let me know how I'm doing at any point in time or if you need anything. Once again, thank you. Wickethewok 15:35, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
