Conflict of interest in Wikipedia, PAID editing policy[edit]

Hi Mimiyoon I work on conflict of interest issues here in Wikipedia. Your edits to date appear to be paid edits, and I do not see that you have disclosed this I'm giving you notice of our WP:PAID editing policy which relates to the Terms of Use of Wikipedia, and our Conflict of Interest guideline, and will have some comments and requests for you below.

Information icon Hello, Mimiyoon. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your circle, your organization, its competitors, projects or products;
  • instead propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please familiarize yourself with relevant policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you.

Comments and requests[edit]

Wikipedia is a widely-used reference work and managing conflict of interest is essential for ensuring the integrity of Wikipedia and retaining the public's trust in it. As in academia, COI is managed here in two steps - disclosure and a form of peer review. Please note that there is no bar to being part of the Wikipedia community if you want to be involved in articles where you have a conflict of interest; there are just some things we ask you to do (and if you are paid, some things you need to do).

Disclosure is the most important, and first, step. While I am not asking you to disclose your identity (anonymity is strictly protecting by our WP:OUTING policy) would you please disclose if you have some connection with ExonBio or Bissan Rafe, directly or through any agency? You can answer how ever you wish (giving personally identifying information or not), but if there are any connections, please disclose them. After you respond (and you can just reply below), perhaps we can talk a bit about editing Wikipedia, to give you some more orientation to how this place works.

Please reply here - I am watching this page. Thanks! Jytdog (talk) 00:28, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi I have no connection with either, the first article I wrote on wiki Bissan Rafe was practice and it is really old, and the second one is for my university, we usually updated scientific articles in class, but this time I used my personal wiki ID. I picked SPIN because it deals with what I am studying, Antibody Development (I study biomedicine), I don't understand what makes you think I have connections? This is really bizarre, it should not be up for deletion or tagged as paid work. It is a new technology and I tried to cite my sources as thoroughly as possible (I even updated the article right now with better links/references and contested your deletion, it is really unfair. While I appreciate your work and integrity, my articles (which are only two, and there is a sea of inappropriate articles on Wikipedia should not be your priority. A better response would have been to help me fix it or give me pointers of how to fix it instead of marking it for speedy deletion, I hope you remove this 'PAID' notice and the speedy deletion notice after reading my contested reasons, Best)Mimiyoon (talk) 12:42, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
First - in this diif you edited my comment above. Never change another editor's comments in Wikipedia. It is inappropriate to do that here in Wikipedia, and people will react very negatively to you. Jytdog (talk) 12:10, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Second, Quick note on the logistics of discussing things on Talk pages, which are essential for everything that happens here. In Talk page discussions, we "thread" comments by indenting - when you reply to someone, you put a colon ":" in front of your comment, and the WP software converts that into an indent; if the other person has indented once, then you indent twice by putting two colons "::" which the WP software converts into two indents, and when that gets ridiculous you reset back to the margin (or "outdent") by putting this {{od}} in front of your comment. This also allows you to make it clear if you are also responding to something that someone else responded to if there are more than two people in the discussion; in that case you would indent the same amount as the person just above you in the thread. I hope that all makes sense. And at the end of the comment, please "sign" by typing exactly four (not 3 or 5) tildas "~~~~" which the WP software converts into a date stamp and links to your talk and user pages. That is how we know who said what. I know this is insanely archaic and unwieldy, but this is the software environment we have to work on. Sorry about that. Will reply on the substance in a second... Jytdog (talk) 12:28, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Third, to the topic, finally. Both of the articles you have created are very promotional and look exactly like paid editing. If you want to understand in what ways they look like paid editing, and to learn how to write articles that look like encyclopedia articles and not marketing material, please ask. But the reason I asked if you are being paid to edit, is because the articles look like paid editing. New editors' first articles sometimes look like paid editing too.
The thing that really drew my attention to the articles was the editing by another user, who made three edits, each spamming a reference to the Spin Technologies article you created into other articles. This is something that paid editors do. Could just be a coincidence unrelated to your creating the article. Jytdog (talk) 12:34, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the input, but it is not a promotional article, I don't understand what makes you think it is paid, I have fixed it, can you at least read my contest on the talk page. I updated all the references, I am not sure why you are targeting my article, there are similar articles about Hybridoma technology and phage display technologies Mimiyoon (talk) 12:37, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I know that you don't understand why it is promotional. You haven't asked any questions, so I don't know how you intend to learn. Jytdog (talk) 13:03, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Can you explain to me how it is promotional and a coyright infringment? I will be happy to amend it if you tell me how? You did nto answer my contested request to the deletion even though I explained everything. Please tell me how to fix it and why i ti's violating copyrights? Mimiyoon (talk) 13:04, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You copied content from this page and pasted it into Wikipedia. You should never do it as it is just unethical and bad scholarship, but here is what matters - in Wikipedia you cannot do that as it against policy.
This is not something for you to debate. You have done a clearly wrong thing here, for the second time that I am aware of. Jytdog (talk) 13:21, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Pretty much your only move here, is to say something like: "Yes, I did copy the content. I did this earlier with the picture and no one objected. I didn't know it was wrong. I won't do it again". I don't know know how somebody who has been through college cannot know it is wrong to copy/paste but that is the only excuse I can invent for you. But you need to mean it, when you say that you won't do it again. Jytdog (talk) 13:37, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Copyright problem: SPIN Technology[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia! Follow up question[edit]

About this file. When you uploaded that image, you did it in such a way that you claimed ownership of the copyright on that image. Would you please confirm that this is true and that you actually own the copyright? Or maybe you made a mistake when you uploaded it. (this happens, it is not terrible, but we just need to fix it)

I am confused because above you said you have no connection with Bissan Rafe. Thanks. Jytdog (talk) 13:01, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I found the image on the public domain and, this page is old, you can delete the whole article if you like. It was just a practice page from 2012. Mimiyoon (talk) 13:06, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure you understand "public domain" nor how copyrights work in the public domain. Where exactly did you download the image from? Jytdog (talk) 13:10, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This image is not my issue, it's an old entry 2012, you can delete the article it was practice like I said. Please redirect your attention to my SPIN article, I just need to know how to amend that one. You didn't reply to my contest for deletion. Mimiyoon (talk) 13:13, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
This image is your issue. We take serial copyright violators seriously, as they are a big problem for us.. If you continue to violate copyright in Wikipedia you will be indefinitely blocked.
Turning back to this image, if you look at this page for instance, it says very clearly at the bottom "All illustrations and pictures are copyright protected by the artist, Bissan Rafe.". It appears to me that you stole from this woman, and then lied in Wikipedia about owning the copyright, and fraudulently granted a license to the image. None of that is OK, on any level. People make mistakes, sure. You need to acknowledge them and not do them in the future. Jytdog (talk) 13:17, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Like I said, that was the first article I created on wiki a long time ago 2012 and I aknowldege it is copyright now but when I created it was for practice and no one flagged it or reviewed. If you want to delete the articel pleae do, but please direct your discussion to my other article since I want to learn and now how to fix it so this does not happen again. Thank you for your patience and effortMimiyoon (talk) 13:25, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

An administrator is going to come here and read all this, and you will probably be indefinitely blocked. You cannot be nonchalant about violating copyright here. Jytdog (talk) 13:28, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I am not being nonchalant, I just acknowledged my mistake Mimiyoon (talk) 13:33, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

see above. Jytdog (talk) 13:39, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
