Dear Martin,

Please help me to improve en:Draft:Vasyl Filipchuk by explaining me in more details which sentences are not adequately supported by reliable sources.

The article is based mostly on an independent publication created by a professional journalist. --Perohanych (talk) 27. 12. 2020, 23:56 (CET)

@Perohanych: Hello Perohanych, thanks for your message! According to verifiability policy, all parts of the article that are controversial, might be challenged or are quotes need to be supported by inline citations. You mention that Filipchuk took part in a demonstration – that looks to me as a possibly controversial part of the article, to give one example.
Additionally, "organized successful projects in the field of media" seems to take a side. According to WP:NPOV, articles should merely explain sides. Could you please rewrite that to say who says they're successful? Alternatively, we can just remove that sentence, as that topic is discussed later in the article.
Also ping @Espresso Addict:, who previously draftified the article, and "contributed" to my decision to require more citations.
Hope this helps, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 10:37, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
Hello Martin, @Espresso Addict:, thanks for your remarks and suggestions!
  1. I have taken off information about his "participation in a demonstration" that really looked as a possibly controversial.
  2. I have changed "organized successful projects in the field of media", that seems to take a side, to "organized several projects in the field of media".
Hope this is enough and helps --Perohanych (talk) 13:39, 28 December 2020 (UTC)
@Perohanych: Hello Perohanych, I'd say the article was sufficiently improved. I've approved it now. However, keep in mind other people could have different opinion than I do :-). Best, --Martin Urbanec (talk) 15:15, 28 December 2020 (UTC)

User evading block

Hi, tr:Kullanıcı:Kizilokwave is a user whose older accounts were banned earlier by AmandaNP. His older user names were User:Tarik298 and User:Tarik289. There is proof here they are identical.[1]). Apparently, he also copied his older user page. He is now doing genocide denialism on Turkish Wikipedia, saying that those are Armenian claims. Also refuting reliable academic scholars from his POV.[2] If needed, I can translate every sentence he wrote. Please don't let him circumnavigate the block.--Visnelma (talk) 22:03, 2 May 2021 (UTC)

WP:AFC Helper News

Hello! I wanted to drop a quick note for all of our AFC participants; nothing huge and fancy like a newsletter, but a few points of interest.

  • AFCH will now show live previews of the comment to be left on a decline.
  • The template {{db-afc-move}} has been created - this template is similar to {{db-move}} when there is a redirect in the way of an acceptance, but specifically tells the patrolling admin to let you (the draft reviewer) take care of the actual move.

Short and sweet, but there's always more to discuss at WT:AFC. Stop on by, maybe review a draft on the way? Whether you're one of our top reviewers, or haven't reviewed in a while, I want to thank you for helping out in the past and in the future. Question from Theairportman33531 (15:36, 23 February 2022)

Have been editing Wikipedia for 10 years anonyamously until now. Decided to open an account. How do I now log into an article to edit? Have about 25K edits (give or take) to my credit. Also how do I get into a protected page to edit something? --Theairportman33531 (talk) 15:36, 23 February 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Theairportman33531, thank you for the question! Unfortunately, it's not possible to change the attribution assigned to any of the edits (one of the reasons is it's not possible to verify who made the anonymous edits). One of the many advantages of having a Wikipedia account is the attribution given to your edits will be always the same (your account name), regardless of the device you use for editing.
For your second question: Fortunately, article protection is relatively rare (only a few of Wikipedia's articles are protected). Access to the majority of protected articles is given automatically, based on the number of edits you have and the number of days since you created an account. As soon as you have at least 500 edits (and 30 days since registration) attributed to your user account, most of the protections will no longer affect you. More information about how protection works can be found in Wikipedia:Protection policy.
I hope this answers your question. If anything is unclear (or if you have any other question), please feel free to let me know.

Question from JohnRyland (14:12, 14 April 2022)

Hello Martin, I am interested in creating a bio for myself on Wiki. I am a traditionally published author --JohnRyland (talk) 14:12, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello @JohnRyland, thanks for the message! Generally speaking, it is very discouraged to write an article about yourself (or people/companies you are familiar with). The reasons for that are described in the Wikipedia:Autobiography and WP:COI guidelines. I strongly recommend to wait until someone else decides to create an article about you.
Of course, this doesn't prevent you from contributing to Wikipedia in areas other than a biography about yourself.
Thank you for your understanding. Best wishes, Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:05, 14 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from Matthew Holland29 (21:33, 23 April 2022)

How do I make a page --Matthew Holland29 (talk) 21:33, 23 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Matthew Holland29, thanks for your question! Generally speaking, it's not recommended to start with making a new page. Creating a new article is quite difficult, and it is recommended to start with smaller editing tasks (such as those offered by your Homepage).
If you indeed do want to create a page now, I recommend you to check Articles for Creation project, which will guide you through the process.
Hope this helps. Let me know if I can help with anything else! Best wishes, Martin Urbanec (talk) 08:07, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Question from RiverHouston (19:13, 28 April 2022)

Hello Martin, I was going to ask how would I go about publishing my page onto the main Wikipedia site from my user page. --RiverHouston (talk) 19:13, 28 April 2022 (UTC)

Hello @RiverHouston, sorry for the late reply! I forgot about your message. Personally, I don't recommend starting with creating a page -- it's a quite difficult thing to do. Instead, I suggest to start with smaller edits, such as the ones suggested by your Homepage. If you indeed want to create a new article, you can use the Articles for creation process.

Question from Kapil Khandelwal KK (15:45, 6 June 2022)

Hi Martin,

I have created my wiki page. Please check if it is go to go. Thanks for your help

my website is https://www.kapilkhandelwal.com --Kapil Khandelwal KK (talk) 15:45, 6 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello Kapil! Thank you for your message, and welcome on Wikipedia. Unfortunately, the page you created was written in promotional note, in a way that's not suitable for Wikipedia (ie. an encyclopedia). Encyclopedias need to provide their readers pure facts, without involving personal opinion of the editors.
For that reason, it is highly discouraged to write an article about yourself, or someone you know. For more information about that, please see Wikipedia:Autobiography and WP:COI. However, we'd appreciate your contributions into areas that interest you, but that don't involve any conflicts of interests on your side. A great way of getting started are suggested edits, which are available on your Homepage.

Question from Richman-Lubnan (05:11, 9 June 2022)

Hello martin, i am super new here. how do i create my company profile here? --Richman-Lubnan (talk) 05:11, 9 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Richman-Lubnan, thanks for your message and welcome to Wikipedia! First, I'd like to clarify one thing. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, meaning it is meant to provide summary of the humans' general knowledge. Wikipedia's purpose is not to provide companies with profiles.
To answer your question: Creating a page about a company you are affiliated with is very highly discouraged, as it is very hard to follow all relevant Wikipedia policies (on neutral point of view, notability and verifiability) while having a conflict of interest. Instead, I recommend participating in other articles on topics you're interested in. A great way to start is your homepage, which provides you with a feed of articles that need an improvement.
If you really want to create a page about your company, please familiarize with the conflict of interest policy first (the most important points are that it requires you to disclose you have a COI, as well as to disclose you're paid for editing, in case you are). After that, you can propose a draft via the Articles for Creation process.

Question from Sohaima (17:43, 8 July 2022)

Hello Urbanec! Could you please tell me that is it okay to edit any article? --Sohaima (talk) 17:43, 8 July 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Sohaima, thanks for your question! Yes, please feel free to edit any articles on the English Wikipedia! All contributions are welcomed (assuming your edits are following Wikipedia's principles). Most of the principles would boil down to "Wikipedia articles need to contain verifiable facts, not opinions". If you have questions about any specific article, please do feel free to let me know, I'll be happy to help! Martin Urbanec (talk) 19:16, 13 July 2022 (UTC)

If the scam you mention is related to getting a Wikipedia article created, Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Scam warning provides some useful information on that.

Question from Softzpk92 (18:15, 5 October 2022)

Hello Mentor, How are you hope you are doing well, just need to submit draft article for the organization who is working in the field of real estate since 2016 and company is ISO 9000 2015 Registered. Would be happy if any help in this matter. Thanks --Softzpk92 (talk) 18:15, 5 October 2022 (UTC)

Hello @Softzpk92, welcome to Wikipedia! I see you submitted Draft:Aura Properties for review. Unfortunately, I don't think the article can be published as-is. Wikipedia articles have to follow certain policies: most importantly, they have to be written from a neutral point of view (ie. present facts and only facts, with no opinion or bias attached to them) and they have to be on notable topics (ie. covered by enough reliable sources). As far as I can see, the draft (both the original version and the updated one) look more like an advertisement than a neutral, fact-based, encyclopedia article.
Best wishes, Martin Urbanec (talk) 10:47, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for the Update Martin Urbance, there is nothing word like advertisement just written what's the facts is, just presenting well information about the company, Wikipedia is the source for searching major brands, articles and general information. My aim is just the same. Not promoting advertisement or link sharing. Thanks Softzpk92 (talk) 10:53, 6 October 2022 (UTC)
Unfortunately, I still think the article reads like an advertisement. In my opinion, sentences like "has completed many renowned projects achieving high Excellency" or "company offers clients the best real estate investment options" are frequently used in advertisement/marketing contexts, rather than in encyclopedia articles. It's also not written from the neutral point of view. Hope this makes sense. Martin Urbanec (talk) 17:07, 7 October 2022 (UTC)

Question from AshleyTrail5 on Suzanne Blier (10:31, 6 October 2022)

Trying to undo the {{cleanup bare URLS}} warning. I have fixed the remaining bare URL. Thnx. --AshleyTrail5 (talk) 10:31, 6 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi @AshleyTrail5, thanks for the message and for the fixes in the article! Notices like this one about bare URLs are usually not inserted by machines, but by fellow Wikipedians. When you think you fixed the problem raised by the notice, it's fine to go ahead and remove the notice from the article. If you do that, it's helpful if the edit summary explains why you removed it (such as, "I fixed all remaining bare URLs" or similar). I checked the article, and I don't see any remaining bare URLs, so I went ahead and removed it from you.
Let me know if I can help you with anything else!

Question from MaysAlShoubaki (09:37, 10 November 2022)

Hello I am working with a new company called EntreViable I want to write about the company --MaysAlShoubaki (talk) 09:37, 10 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello @MaysAlShoubaki, thank you for your message, and my apologies for taking a while to answer!
Unfortunately, I don't think you will be able to write at Wikipedia about your company. All articles need to meet the notability criteria (see the companies/organisations specific policy as well). That means the company needs to be already sufficiently covered in existing reliable and secondary sources. For the vast majority of new companies, that's not the case.
In addition to that, Wikipedia maintains a conflicts of interests policy – in other words, it is highly discouraged to write an article about your own company, even if it is notable.
If you want to contribute to Wikipedia about any other topics, you are welcomed to do so! A good place to start is your Homepage, where a set of editing tips is waiting for you to work on.
Hope this makes sense,
Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:50, 15 November 2022 (UTC)

Hello @HelplessBystander, welcome on Wikipedia! I'm not sure what you mean by "suitable about page". What do you want to write about? Sincerely, Martin Urbanec (talk) 16:32, 18 January 2023 (UTC)
Hi @Martin Urbanec thank you for the warm welcome, I appreciate it as I am very new to all the functionalities of the website and it's still so overwhelming and filled with features for me to explore at the moment haha, so what I meant is I noticed a lot of about pages for users seemed to be very detailed and in-depth. So I was simply wondering if there was any conventions around things such as the about page and those boxes with information contained within them are generally made? It seems very complex... Question from Hexa-Slime (22:33, 26 March 2023)

How may i make a article --Hexa-Slime (talk) 22:33, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

Hello @Hexa-Slime! Welcome to Wikipedia & thanks for the question. Generally, it's best to not start by creating a whole new article (it requires a great deal of editing skills, as well as knowledge of relevant Wikipedia policies), otherwise, the article is likely to not pass the draft review. I suggest to start by making edits to existing articles (for example, based on articles your Homepage suggests to you). However, if you really want to try it out, the process is explained at Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Happy editing, Martin Urbanec (talk) 07:37, 27 March 2023 (UTC)

ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:46, 28 November 2023 (UTC)
