[edit]

Hello, I'm WikiDan61. I wanted to let you know that I undid one or more of your recent contributions to Coca-Cola formula because it didn't appear constructive. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks! WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:11, 2 January 2013 (UTC) Hello WikiDan61, the edits I made were to update old URLs to the new ones that have replaced the old pages. The links on your page are not currently getting 404s because there are redirects in place, but it's best practice to point to the new URLs to avoid possible future 404 errors.[reply]

Format breaking

[edit]

Something about the way you are editing Wikipedia pages is breaking the embedded formatting that exists on the pages. When you edited my talk page, carriage returns and various Wiki markup elements were deleted. I don't know if you are doing this on purpose, or if this is an accident, but in either case, please address the issue. It is because of this problem that I reverted your edits on the Coca Cola pages (your edits removed the required "ref" tags that make references work correctly). WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:35, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am very sorry. I am new to this and did not intend to remove carriage returns or do any other harm. I was only trying to help by providing updated links to prevent 404 errors. The only edits I made on the page were to the old/incorrect URLs and the page looked good when I previewed it prior to saving. Please accept my apology. Hi, IfixURLs: I was puzzled by your edit to Coca-Cola formula so I took a look at your other edits. The only place where I have actually found you replacing a URL was in your first edit, to The Coca-Cola Company, where you replaced this old link, which redirects to a general page, with this list of brands. Since you were correct, the old URL now redirects to a page that does not support the point (Coca-Cola's acquisition of Barq's in 1995), I went a couple of clicks ahead and found the new page that references the point. It would be lovely if you could do that next time, but thank you for drawing my attention to the need :-) However, so far as I can see, the rest of your edits don't update URLs at all - they just strip <ref> and </ref> tags out of the articles! That is not the same thing at all, and as for leaving the articles looking good on preview - it leaves them with links after each referenced item and no footnotes, which may look better to you but is not the preferred house style around here (because most readers find inline links intrusive). Please don't do that; perhaps you are using some sort of screen reader or perhaps you got confused because clicking on the footnote number just takes you to the footnote, but in any event, it isn't the same thing as link-checking. You know the software keeps a record of everybody's edits, right? So you can check your own or anyone else's contributions or the history of the article. Here, for example, is your edit to Coca-Cola formula - just removal of ref tags all down the line. Yngvadottir (talk) 22:07, 2 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, Yngvadottir, for the information. I did not realize I had incorrectly edited the page. IfixURLs (talk) 18:25, 3 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
