Editing with a possible conflict of interest
Hello, Hesperian Nguyen. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:
- avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, company, organization or competitors;
- propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (see the {{request edit}} template);
- disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see WP:DISCLOSE);
- avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
- do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.
In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).
Also please note that editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.
- I have generated the message above in regards to your editing history at Jim Ricks; please note that in the future you will be expected to follow the policies linked above.--SamHolt6 (talk) 23:56, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

Today, Jim Ricks has written to SamHolt6 that the origin of the article was paid work. I suggest you take up with SamHolt6 if there is any way to address the UPE template. David notMD (talk) 00:23, 21 December 2018 (UTC)

SamHolt6 on vacation
FYI - SamHolt6 Talk page says on vacation until New Year's Day. You may consider posting a query at that Talk page a couple of days after. Point out that the original creator has declared PAID, and that the article has undergone >150 edits since it was created. That should be enough for SamHolt6 to remove the PAID template. Debate in the edit summary
RE: whether White Privilege should address the related concept of White Supremacy, rather than doing a null edit to argue in the edit summary I suggest you'd be better off taking your disagreement to article talk to gain consensus. Simonm223 (talk) 19:42, 30 January 2019
- Simonm223 You seem to be confused. First of all I have already started a new section on the talk page. Perhaps take a look. And further I have no disagreement.
Rather I seek to define White Privilege. And it is necassary to focus on what it is and to leave out what it is not. It is not an interchangeable term with White Supremacy. The DuBois quote that is in the article does not benefit from the sentence you reverted. In fact that sentence is off topic and confuses the meaning of the quote. In an effort to maintain neutrality and to disseminate objective information in a clear and concise way... I believe you are dead wrong on this. I will make more edits to improve the page on White Privilege and hope you can respect my improvements. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 19:50, 30 January 2019 (UTC)

in this specific instance Simonm223. Youre rational is off topic, and doesnt have much to do with the goals of wiki as I can see. - Ok, Doug Weller. I've had a look. I did this in exactly one case on a page I continue to expand and improve. Not sure if that warrants your weird and vague warning here. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 13:29, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- I don't think it was at all weird and vague and it certainly wasn't a warning but a request explaining why I made the request. I apologise for thinking you'd done it more than once, I didn't check all your edits but did look at another article you'd editied. Doug Weller talk 16:50, 31 January 2019 (UTC)
- Ok, sorry Doug Weller. Thank you for raising this issue. Although I have only done it twice to my knowledge. Your title startled me and suggested to me that I had been doing so to dozens of articles! Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 15:35, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

I've reverted both category moves because the usual locution for categories is "American". I'm not necessarily inherently opposed to changing it, but given the scope of the change I think you'd be better taking it to WP:CFD for debate. Fair warning: I suspect it's been raised there before, so I'd search for previous discussions on the subject before opening a new one. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 19:34, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
- Hi Ser Amantio di Nicolao thank you, I saw that revert. I also did it incorrectly, so sorry for that too. It's something that does need to change, so I appreciate your suggestions. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 19:58, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Behavior on talk pages
First let me say that our guidelines on this aren't observed as much as they should be. But we do have a behavioral guideline which is at Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines. Doug Weller talk 11:57, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
- Doug Weller I'm not sure if you are giving me a polite warning or if something caught your attention? But I have found some editors on here to be... let's just say fairly difficult. And in turn I try to hold my ground. I am the first to admit I am hear to learn as much as give, and I abide by rules if they make sense and I know about them. Perhaps you could be more clear as to what you are referring to and your interest in my activities? Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 16:38, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
I want to add this: I think some of the behaviour I've witnessed on the White Privilege page is gaslighting, bullying, and undemocratic. And I'm not sure how to deal with it. Some editors there are VERY defensive. Hesperian Nguyen (talk) 16:47, 2 February 2019 (UTC)
I have experienced the same behaviour. There is a cabal of aggressive editors on the white privilege page who will not allow anything critical to be properly integrated into the article. Unfortunately this tarnishes the reputation of wikipedia as having a NPOV. Keith Johnston (talk) 08:55, 27 March 2019 (UTC)
Hesperin Nguyen, I have also experienced what you describe on the "White Privilege" page. As a new editor I admittedly was unfamiliar with all the rules. I just made an edit and argued my case. I was surprised that White Privilege was listed as a fact rather than a theory. But once I made that edit, and it was immediately reverted with terse push back...I was surprised by the defensiveness of editors who are demonstrably wrong. I know I am supposed to assume good faith, but in the end it is obvious that there are a few violators on that talk page. Apparently if a few editors with a WP-NPOV issue get together they can block any truthful edit, and keep their Point of view front and center. Doniboy71 (talk) 08:41, 26 May 2019 (UTC)
I agree and it's unclear to me what the best way forward is. These aggressive editors are very active and excel at filibustering and personal attacks. If you or Doniboy71 (talk) have any ideas on what can be done I would welcome your thoughts. In the meantime these editors will simply not allow critique based on RS. Keith Johnston (talk) 20:16, 3 June 2019 (UTC)

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Visual Artists Ireland is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.
The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Visual Artists Ireland until a consensus is reached, and anyone, including you, is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on high-quality evidence and our policies and guidelines.
Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion notice from the top of the article. DGG ( talk ) 23:10, 1 January 2020 (UTC)
Why on earth are you adding Facebook as a source to Visual Artists Ireland? I have removed it, please do not put it back. ThatMontrealIP (talk) 02:52, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
- ThatMontrealIP It was to verify the date. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)
- Read WP:RS. We do not use Facebook as a source.Some of the other sources you added are similarly bad. For example this diff adds Artquest, a wiki-style member's page. I have also removed it.ThatMontrealIP (talk)
- Ok, thanks, that was a mistake. It is a work in progress. There is an issue that I've come across and maybe you can help... Sometimes supporting organisations like galleries do not receive much press themselves even though they might have a long and valuable history. Similarly the VAI is in this category. They are their own publisher of most things, and newspapers don't write articles about them. Any advice appreciated. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)
- This is because they are not notable. Notability is not inherited. The artists they present are sometimes notable, but the organizations are rarely notable. You should be carefully synthesizing statements form several discrete sources.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 03:04, 2 January 2020 (UTC)
- I'm not suggesting notability is inherited. Please don't assume the worst from me. Ok, well what about the case of Kerlin Gallery? They are highly notable with an international reputation, but when looking for supporting citations I found next to nothing. The VAI is a publisher mainly (not sure how to source that), a help desk, and almost a lobbying group. They provide quotes to papers about the conditions and issues of artists. I see you removed a source but why wouldn't you have adjusted the lede? I will work on this later when you are done. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)
- To address your edit... They are frequently cited in newspapers. They are not normally the feature of the article. But certainly an organisation of this size and readership has different criteria than an individual. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)
- Here for example is an Amazon search with a list of books they produced and this also supports what I wrote. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)

- Thanks. I think WP:ORG helps a lot and I will add some more details on this line of reason. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)
- You could try, but if you read the entire (long) thread, there is obviously no consensus for a special notability guideline for galleries. Also if gallery cannot meet WP:GNG, then it cannot meet WP:ORG, as ORG requires more sourcing. The community consensus is that galleries without in-depth coverage on the gallery itself are not notable.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:38, 5 January 2020 (UTC)
- Visual Artists Ireland isn't a gallery, I was only comparing the situation. It is an organisation. Again, thanks for sharing that thread, I did make it pretty far done and find it very interesting. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)
- It's an org. I pointed you to that thread as arguing that art galleries or art organizations are notable based on inherited qualities or special considerations is a losing battle.ThatMontrealIP (talk) 04:25, 6 January 2020 (UTC)
- It remains an issue. And my points on the issue I noticed with galleries remain valid regardless of whether or not consensus was reached previously on a thread. Regards. Hesperian Nguyen (talk)

January 2020
Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Mexican Hairless Dog a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.
In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. moving talk page comments
Hello! You can't move comments like you did in the edit on the gallery AFD. See Wikipedia:Talk_page_guidelines. There is a principle on Wikipedia of not breaking continuity on talk pages. Once someone has replied to your comment you don't change your own comment. Please fix that move. if you want to remove the collapse template feel free. Fair use images
Fair use images, such as at Janet Mullarney have a rationale at the image page, not the article page. We used to have to add a hidden comment pointing that out, and in the above article, I did, but a while back, someone was going through and removing the hidden text. But my point is that the rationale exists at image files, not article files. Montanabw(talk) 15:34, 9 April 2020 (UTC)
Direct, reliable sources needed for Days of the Year pages
You're probably not aware of this change, but Days of the Year pages now require direct reliable sources for additions. For details see the content guideline, the WikiProject Days of the Year style guide or the edit notice on any DOY page. Almost all new additions without references are now being reverted on-sight.
Please do not add new additions to these pages without direct sources as the burden to provide them is on the editor who adds or restores material to these pages.

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under non-free content criteria, but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia is acceptable. Please go to the file description page, and edit it to include a non-free rationale.
If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified the non-free rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F6 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
