Wikipedia and copyright[edit]

Warning icon Hello Eshwar.om, and welcome to Wikipedia. Your addition to Tamils in Bangalore has had to be removed, as it appears to have added copyrighted material without permission from the copyright holder. While we appreciate your contributing to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from your sources to avoid copyright or plagiarism issues here.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and a cited source. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. (There is a college-level introduction to paraphrase, with examples, hosted by the Online Writing Lab of Purdue.) Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • Our primary policy on using copyrighted content is Wikipedia:Copyrights. You may also want to review Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. However, there are steps that must be taken to verify that license before you do. See Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • In very rare cases (that is, for sources that are public domain or compatibly licensed), it may be possible to include greater portions of a source text. However, please seek help at the help desk before adding such content to the article. 99.9% of sources may not be added in this way, so it is necessary to seek confirmation first. If you do confirm that a source is public domain or compatibly licensed, you will still need to provide full attribution; see Wikipedia:Plagiarism for the steps you need to follow.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied without attribution. If you want to copy from another Wikipedia project or article, you can, but please follow the steps in Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to leave me a message on my talk page. and the earlier versionWikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Bangalore Tamils Thank you. June 2014[edit]

Information icon Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you copied or moved text from one or more pages into another page. While you are welcome to re-use Wikipedia's content, here or elsewhere, Wikipedia's licensing does require that you provide attribution to the original contributor(s). When copying within Wikipedia, this is supplied at minimum in an edit summary at the page into which you've copied content. It is good practice, especially if copying is extensive, to also place a properly formatted {{copied}} template on the talk pages of the source and destination. The attribution has been provided for this situation, but if you have copied material between pages before, even if it was a long time ago, please provide attribution for that duplication. You can read more about the procedure and the reasons at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. You have copied from several articles into Tamils in Bangalore without attribution, thus violating the copyright of the editors who created those texts. I dont disagree that its in the source but the thing is the existing line doesnt change the meaning or spirit of the article. He is just giving undue weight to this thing which is not the right behavior. Andhrawala2014 (talk) 07:12, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
What exactly has been given "undue weight"? And how does this justify your misuse of Wiki-policies? Joshua Jonathan -Let's talk! 13:27, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Joshua, @Andhrawala2014:, in what way is Eshwar giving undue weight. This is a pure misinterpretation and misuse of policies. You just seem to have shot yourself in the foot.  LeoFrank  Talk 14:55, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Andhrawala2014: Another one. Looks like you just want to keep reverting Eshwar without any clear and logical explanation! You need to stop this, else it will be you who would end up being blocked.  LeoFrank  Talk 14:58, 19 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Stop icon

Your recent editing history at Rakshasa shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Please check this page and fix the errors highlighted. If you think this is a false positive, you can report it to my operator. Thanks, ReferenceBot (talk) 00:30, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Eshwar.om, I've reverted you at the above article in part because of the issues mentioned in the note above. I'm off to bed now but I'll try to sort it all out tomorrow. Please could you note that the lead section of articles is intended to summarise all the stuff that we say later in the article, so your additions were poorly placed. Hopefully, I can sort it all out for you but I'll need to check the sources that you cited. One real positive is that you did cite sources - far too many people do not even do that! - Sitush (talk) 00:52, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, it turns out that I cannot see many of the sources that you cite and, worse, you have been copying material without attribution. For example, some of this edit was previously inserted by you here and in turn that can be seen on the web at places such as this. Whether or not that is itself a copy of an older version of an article on Wikipedia is something that I've not yet figured out but I note that the words also appear at Bhakti. At best, you have added to a considerable mess; at worse, you have caused it.
I'm afraid that you are going to have to rewrite your addition using your own words. The sources themselves seem to be ok - university presses etc - but untangling what has gone on is an unfair burden to place on others. - Sitush (talk) 11:41, 20 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon @Eshwar.om:Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia, as you did at Tamil Nadu. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted or removed.

  • If you are engaged in an article content dispute with another editor then please discuss the matter with the editor at their talk page, or the article's talk page. Alternatively you can read Wikipedia's dispute resolution page, and ask for independent help at one of the relevant notice boards.
  • If you are engaged in any other form of dispute that is not covered on the dispute resolution page, please seek assistance at Wikipedia's Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents.

Please ensure you are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, and please do not continue to make edits that appear disruptive, until the dispute is resolved through consensus. Proposed deletion of Sri Muneshwara Swamy Temple[edit]

The article Sri Muneshwara Swamy Temple has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No proof of notability.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
