Grenville Hair image
[edit]Hi. You flagged up the image of Grenville Hair because of its dodgy licensing at the Bradford City peer review. I expect you're correct, but is there any way of checking? Or is it far simpler just to delete it for FA purposes? I expect I know the answer, but thought I'd ask the question anyway.
- Nice one. Thanks very much for your help. I must admit, although I understand copyright law, I'm not entirely au fait with the use of images on WP. That particularly image isn't the most necessary on the article, but it's the only one I can find for that section, and neatly breaks up the text. Peanut4 (talk) 17:06, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:AFCWulfsBadge.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:AFCWulfsBadge.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. Ronnie Wallwork peer review
[edit]ChrisTheDude, I was wondering if you had a few minutes to contribute to the Ronnie Wallwork peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review/Ronnie Wallwork/archive1. I've done quite a bit to improve the article, and Peanut4 has also contributed greatly. I think it has GA potential but there's probably still a few improvements to make first. I had a read-through of West Midlands (Regional) League by the way, but I couldn't think of much to improve it (sorry!). --Jameboy (talk) 00:20, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Dover Athletic F.C.
[edit]ChrisTheDude, I notice you are extremely interested in non-league football and have also taken the time out to correct or enhance some of the stuff I have placed on articles about Dover Athletic F.C. players. I was interested in starting up articles for all of the first-team squad and wondered if you knew of anywhere I could find statistics for all non-league players such as appearences for other clubs, as finding them out for Dover is no problem. I would be grateful of any response. DoverAthleticFC (talk) 09:29, 15 July 2008 (UTC).

[edit]A source you might find useful - there's an entry for him in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, which is accessible to anyone with a UK library card. Articles about him seem to often use Association Football And The Men Who Made It as a source, but given that it was written in 1905 and goes for £500 I somehow doubt that one is going to be at our disposal any time soon :) Oldelpaso (talk) 21:04, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Gills v Blues friendly
[edit]As I shall be going camera-in-hand to the above, it being our only pre-season game anywhere even remotely near where I live, was wondering if there's anything/anyone you'd like me to try and photograph? assuming weather, demands of accompanying family and/or tantrums of aforesaid camera don't get in the way, obviously. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 14:50, 25 July 2008 (UTC)

Shearer pic
[edit]Hey, thanks for adding the Shearer Banner pic to Alan Shearer's article. Just thought I'd let you know that it may end up being removed however, as there's been a discussion about a similar pic before here and it was delete due to copyright concerns. I don't have much experience with image copyright/fair use etc., (plus I can't see why this would be unacceptable - nor see NUFC being concerned by the publication, given that the banner was hung off the stadium, as a tribute), so I'm going to leave it there - just wanted to let you know about possible concerns and that it may be removed. - Toon05 17:14, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- The issue (if my understanding of the discussion is correct) was that the banner itself is copyrighted - so it's a picture of a copyrighted picture... if you get my drift. I can't see it being a big problem. Lol, thanks! - Toon05 17:48, 4 August 2008 (UTC)
- Hello again! I was wondering if you would have a quick look at the Alan Shearer article and provide some feedback. I'm wondering mostly about the lead, IMO it may be too long, but I'm not sure where to go with it. Given your (pretty immense) experience with football-related FAs, I hopd you could provide a few pointers of what more there is to do before taking it to the slaughterhouse! Thanks - Toon05 17:23, 8 August 2008 (UTC)
Possibly unfree Image:AlanShearerBanner.jpg
[edit]An image that you uploaded or altered, Image:AlanShearerBanner.jpg, has been listed at Wikipedia:Possibly unfree images because its copyright status is unclear or disputed. If the image's copyright status cannot be verified, it may be deleted. You may find more information on the image description page. You are welcome to add comments to its entry at the discussion if you are interested in it not being deleted. Thank you. Mosmof (talk) 23:33, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- I see that the issue has already been brought up - basically, if you're using the photograph to show a copyrighted work like the Shearer banner, the copyright still belongs to the original publisher of the banner. You can read the explanations on Commons here and here. --Mosmof (talk) 23:40, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
- Sorry for the multiple messages - I've withdrawn the WP:PUI nomination and gave it a fair use rationale, since I figured the banner was notable enough to be subject of discussion. Sorry for the trouble. Cheers. --Mosmof (talk) 02:07, 6 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:StimmoWarmUp.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 11:55, 11 August 2008 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit]I've reffed what I could, but the edition of the book that I have is from 86, so you have a frustrating gap. Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:AlanShearerBanner.jpg
[edit]Thank you for uploading Image:AlanShearerBanner.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 14:45, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Hi Chris,
Just thought I'd let you know I've added a couple of bits to the above article, namely the numbers each player was wearing that day (from personal notes crosschecked with Sky Sport's footage); plus Bartram as the man of the match. For the latter I have added a ref, unfortunately as my copy of the book is in storage at the mo I can't offer a specific page number. I'll try and get that in the next few days.
If you want any further help (the book i referenced has an entire chapter on the match), feel free to ask. :) - AMBerry (t|c) 18:25, 30 August 2008 (UTC)
- Turns out it wasn't in storage, but at the bottom of a box... ahem. Page reference added, however it doesn't elaborate much on the penalty shoot-out. However, that said, (the wonders of youtube) the order was: MC - Horlock scored, Dickov missed (hit both posts), Cooke scored, Edghill scored. Gills - Smith missed, Pennock missed, Hodge scored, Butters missed. Can't really cite a reliable source for that though. -AMBerry (t|c) 20:58, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
- I wouldn't complain, I was further round, level with the penalty spot... at the wrong end. Plus there was a pillar, and the small matter of several thousand people in the way for me! -AMBerry (t|c) 21:06, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice
[edit]Hi,
As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.
We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.
You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.
We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Robert Brown (football manager)
[edit]Good work on spotting the mistake, I've got a bit of information on him but never spotted it. I'll try to expand the article a bit but I can't find a birth date or place of birth anywhere, although it looks as if he came from the Jarrow area, working in the Tyneside shipyards and playing for Hebburn Argyle as a semi pro. Stimmo
[edit]Hey Chris, I'm not entirely sure. I've spoke to a couple of Grays Ath statto's and they reckon it could be a few more. His playing record here, says only 3 league apps, not too sure if that site can be classed as a reliable source though. It's a site I'm involved with. This is definately the very last game he was named in the starting 16, as a player-manager.
I noticed that you're adding quite a bit of content, are you trying to reach GA status? Cheers, --Jimbo[online] 18:19, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Hi, just found out Stimmo made 40 league appearances for Grays in 2002–03. --Jimbo[online] 19:49, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- No probs. Indeed they are decent pics, just needs to crop them. It made me laugh when I saw a pic of Andysteve in Mark McCammon's infobox. I even managed to grab a cheeky crop of Stuart Thurgood from the Simon King pic.
I've found his Canvey stats online at SoccerFactsUK.co.uk, I've seen the website referenced on Stuart Elliott's page which is a GA. He made 30 appearances, scoring 5 times for Canvey Island in the Ryman Premier in 01–02. His Grays stats are incomplete as not all the matches are on there. If I can get hold of a programme with his stats for the 02–03 season, would you be able to reference that? --Jimbo[online] 08:38, 2 September 2008 (UTC)
Move reverting
[edit]I wonder if you could help. Despite several discussions on the matter in the past on the talk page, including a formal RM procedure, a Turkish editor has moved Colin Kazim-Richards' article to the Turkish version of his name. I have been able to revert this in the past, but on this occasion it won't let me, because the CKR page already exists, as a redirect: surely it did last time I reverted... I'm afraid I feel no obligation to go through RM again, when a change contrary to that consensus was made with no discussion: can you expedite the rverion, from your lofty heights of adminship? [edit]Hi ChrisTheDude, I've left some comments at the Mark Stimson peer review and was wondering if you could reciprocate at Scott Carson? Gillingham F.C. FT
[edit]Just to let you know, some people are discussing your Gillingham F.C. FT at the Aston Villa F.C. FTC. Cheers, Mattythewhite (talk) 07:01, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Bruce refs
[edit]Having finally relocated some notes made ages ago when I was considering working on the article myself, there's only a couple that might possibly be of some use. In [3] he says "I had one year left on my contract [at Man Utd] and could have stayed but I knew they were looking for more centre-backs and I could see myself out of the side", plus other bits, and in [4] he says how in his last season at United, Ferguson stopped him taking jobs in management at three named clubs. Though I do realise there's a limit to how much detail you can go into before you end up writing a book rather than a wiki article... cheers, Struway2 (talk) 10:16, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- Too much pursuit: "with three clubs actively pursuing his services, but Ferguson refused to allow him to pursue the opportunities" :-) Also, suggest mentioning that Birmingham were a second-tier club when he signed for them. The first sentence of the Later playing career section, apart from being more than a bit long-winded, rather implies they were top-flight. Would something like "Bruce was among five former Premier League players signed by Birmingham manager Trevor Francis to add experience to a squad expected to challenge for promotion" (and drop the "for the 1996-97 season") work better? It would at least be explicitly supported by the citation, which the "little knowledge of the top flight" bit wasn't really. cheers, Struway2 (talk) 13:25, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Re:Gillingham F.C. FT
[edit]OK, sure. Firstly let me say that I realise that Gillingham was the first of the football club topics, so very well done for that. But now, I have to say that it doesn't appear to completely hold up to some of the others. York for example hasn't done any better in the history of football than Gillingham has, so roughly speaking, I'm applying the logic that anything the York topic can do, the Gillingham topic should be able to do too. Of course this may be wrong but I'm sure the accuracy of this logic would come out in an FTRC. Right, now, onto the issues:
- Gillingham F.C. records. I don't see why this can't be a featured list. It hasn't even tried, and I think any audited articles of limited subject matter should at least have tried. The other topics have featured records and statistics lists.
- A quick check of Gillingham's website indicates the club does Player of the Year awards. But as far as I can see, this information isn't in the topic anywhere. The other topics have an article dedicated to this.
- Since the topic nom, you've created the article List of Gillingham F.C. players with fewer than 50 appearances. I feel this constitutes a notable gap in the topic, and the way the rules work is that you have 3 months from the creation of a new article to get it into the topic. This article is over 3 months old.
If you're willing to work at these things, I'd be willing to turn a blind eye for a bit, and let you improve your topic :P rst20xx (talk) 13:32, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
- OK, not sure when I'll bring it (may be a while) but thanks for understanding - rst20xx (talk) 13:45, 15 September 2008 (UTC)
Erm, firstly no, you wouldn't need to renominate the topic, because you're not adding or removing any articles. And secondly, in light of these recent discussions about Aston Villa, I think that if you get the records to FL, you'll be sorted actually. On reflection the <50 list I think is optional, and as for the lack of POTY stuff, well what you can find about POTYs should probably be in the Gillingham articles somewhere, but if you can't find all the POTYs, then giving the subject its own article is a bit pointless really.
I think I owe you an apology, because while the topic did need work, the fact that I've now decided that two of the three reasons I gave for the topic not meeting the criteria are largely invalid is pretty poor on my part. So sorry about that, and good luck with the records article - rst20xx (talk) 14:43, 17 September 2008 (UTC)
Tks for the review...
[edit]...here. As a matter of fact, most references to this article would be in portuguese. Would that be a problem? If yes, I can search for english references, but they won't be too numerous. Garavello (talk) 17:32, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Your Colchester mole reports back...
[edit]Monkwick is indeed an area of Colchester, about 1 1/2 or 2 miles south from the town centre, and is basically squaddie central. It is about as well supplied with leafy groves as Twydall, but there is a road there called Lethe Grove: I suspect that chinese whispers have come into play, or maybe they have simply forgotten how it was spelled.
- Looking at the source, I guess that this was a phone interview and either Miller has the typical Colchester aversion to pronouncing th other than as an f, and/or the Gazette's journalist did not know the name of the road and made a lazy guess without looking it up. Kevin McE (talk) 10:20, 18 September 2008 (UTC)
On an unrelated point: if there is still pressure over, or an interest in, a Gills PotY list, remember that it was under the auspices of the Supporters' Club until the Scally era, and so Keith or Alan should be able to help, and they might be able to put a list on GillsConnect so that you would have a citable source. Orphaned non-free media (Image:SteveBruceAutoBio.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:SteveBruceAutoBio.jpg. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 05:41, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
