Srebrenica articles

Cbna kbsa very briefly, since I must go. Wikipedia articles and text are based on WP:COMMONNAME, they aren't based on either legal rulings, nor even on the wishes of the victims - which are almost impossible to assess anyway. The more common name for what occurred at Srebrenica has been established to be 'massacre', though 'genocide' is given as an alternative - as are all the facts about court rulings. In my experience, victim relatives are deeply offended if anyone seeks to deny that around 8,000 + people were cruelly and shamefully murdered in cold-blood, but not over concerned whether that is called 'mass-murder', 'massacre' or 'genocide', the only difference being the ethnic targetting of the latter word.

Secondly,WP:BRD dictates that if your edit is challenged, you don't simply engage in an edit war, but the article reverts to the stable version until a new consensus is reached. The WP:ONUS is on you to persuade other editors of the rightness of the changes you wish to make, not on others to defend the stable text. I am accordingly reverting to stable versions and you are free to start a discussion on talk about the changes you wish to make and/or a renaming of the 'massacre' article.

Your long message on my talk page misses the point about names. WP articles and events described on WP use the more common name. You are arguing about what you think people SHOULD call the events at Srebrenica, rather than what they DO call those events. No matter how well-intentioned that might be, it isn't going to sway anyone here, because we are neutral documenters, not advocates of any kind. You are perfectly free to use any website you are involved with to persuade people to use what you think is the 'correct' term, but WP doesn't do that. It follows rather than leads English usage. FWIW, for many years, I, and quite a few other UK people used to speak of "the Fall of Srebrenica", because that was the earliest description common in the UK. Those of us who used that term were perfectly clear that mass-murder of many unarmed men and boys had almost certainly occurred,(things were suspected but not proven at that stage) with no better reason than that the victims were caught in the wrong place at the wrong time and were of the 'wrong' ethnicity. My own theory as to why 'massacre' is more common is nothing to do with down-playing or negating, it's largely that a considerable time came between the killings and the ICTY judgements, that time was long enough for a COMMONNAME to be established, but as I said previously, discussion should take place on article talk pages. Thank you very much for letting us know about the copyright rules related to copy and pasting text from websites directly. We are new to page creation and did not know this. We are owners of the website we copied from (www.bosniak.org) and now understand that we must donate to Wiki any text we want to use from the page directly. We will work on this separately, but just wanted to send a note of thanks for the guidance. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused. I was not trying to promote CBNA. Rather, I was trying to create a page that would educate people about what they do and who they are. I have changed the username so as to separate this account from the organization. I hope this is sufficient. I also want to disclose that I am a board member of the organization who does not receive compensation. I set up the Wiki page on a volunteer basis and I planned to simply kick start the page and have a community volunteer group take over making updates to it. My contribution to this will include connecting people who have been affiliated with the organization over the past 20 years to document their contributions and achievements, so that we can have them all documented in an informational and factual way on Wiki. Wikipedia is not a place for organizations to tell the world about themselves; our articles summarize what independent reliable sources with significant coverage have chosen on their own to say about the organization, showing how it meets the special Wikipedia definition of a notable organization. Please read WP:COI and WP:PAID. You won't be unblocked to, in the short term, edit about your organization. If that is your only goal here, this is the end of the road.
