Iqaluit
[edit]Hi Alan, This message is in reference to your recent edit of Iqaluit. Thanks for adding your knowledge (I'm guessing first-hand) about food prices in the arctic. Makes a lot of sense. I'm worried that because the video I cited didn't make that claim, the sentence and its citation don't totally line up. But hey, if no one on the page cares, I trust you! Thanks for the nugget of knowledge. Badums (talk) 16:57, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Well he vandalized my page again, i got proof that he did vandalize my userpage. (Ben1239randy's history). I know he vandalized my page on the 3rd July ( I haven't been on wikipedia for a long time) but he vandalized my page so could you please block him from editing, I don't know how to block him from editing. Please stop him from vandalizing my userpage. Ben1239randy (talk) 23:22, 10 July 2009 (UTC)

Island infobox
[edit]Hi CBW; hope you had a nice holiday. Regarding Mark Island (Frobisher Bay, Nunavut) and Resolution Island (Nunavut), I noticed you removed Iqaluit from their infoboxes. As Iqaluit appears in most?/all? of the other Nunavut island infoboxes, I was wondering whether it should be removed across the board, vs. if there was a reason why it didn't belong on these 2 articles? --Rosiestep (talk) 22:04, 13 July 2009 (UTC)
- Yup, the old copy and paste routine. I'll get the island infoboxes cleaned up this week. While I'm at it... some of the Nunavut island stubs have Nunavut while others don't. Any thoughts on this? --Rosiestep (talk) 22:25, 13 July 2009 (UTC)

Yellowknife Schools
[edit]Hey, just thought I'd send you a quick (but big) thank-you for adding images to all of the articles about Yellowknife's schools. It's greatly appreciated and really adds to the articles! Cheers -YK Timestalk 04:28, 14 July 2009 (UTC)
Haha, maybe a god judgment call then. I can rustle up a couple of images of the jail; let me know if there are any more articles that need pictures. Sure, I should've put that into the Template namespace to begin with - thanks for the catch. -YK Timestalk 03:36, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you.72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:33, 20 July 2009 (UTC)PS There is a picture captioned: "A white Bengal tiger in National Zoological Park Delhi, India." It comes from the ASPCA and it looks very familiar. I can't find it on the internet, but I suspect it may not be at the New Delhi Zoo. There's another picture captioned "white Bengal tiger", and it's from Russia (the picture). I don't know whether it is a Bengal tiger, but maybe this is too trivial to worry about. 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:39, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Haley Scarnato
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Haley Scarnato. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Haley Scarnato (2nd nomination). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:26, 29 July 2009 (UTC)

HRM
[edit]Hey CambridgeBayWeather, there's trouble a brewin' at the HRM talk page and I'm not sure what to do at this point, wanted an admin's opinion. For the sake of full disclosure, I have edited under two accounts since 2004 or 2005 - this one and User:Sprocket, which I no longer use.
User:Cherry1000 is a sockpuppet of the banned user Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/Matthvm (2nd), whom I reported a couple years back. My accusation on the HRM talk page has been reverted by Cherry and another one of his alts, User:Matthvm3, a total of eight times for a number of frivolous reasons. I would report him at Suspected sock puppets, but he has so many accounts it's difficult, and he'd just make another. He uses his multiple accounts for meat puppetry, primarily in the debate over how to organize the Halifax series of articles in light of the municipality's 1996 amalgamation. He's consistantly incivil, has made legal threats, and is not open to constructive dialogue whatsoever. His latest shtick, while perhaps not malicious, is adding huge numbers of articles based on all and any place names one would see on a map of Nova Scotia - for example, South Lochaber, Nova Scotia. In this case, I pointed out on his talk page that the location does not appear to have more than a few small buildings (Google Maps), that there is nothing notable about the place, but (predictably) was ignored. I know I sound a bit bitter, but it's a chronic problem around many NS and HRM subjects. Do you have any advice as to the best course of action? Thanks, Kinou (talk) 04:41, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- Note: Kinou is a dupicate account created by User:Sprocket
- Thanks CBW, I will do that when I have the time. As you can see, I'm being followed (the reason I made this second account in the first place). Kinou (talk) 05:07, 31 July 2009 (UTC)

Islands of Frobisher Bay
[edit]Hi CBW. I'm thinking it's time to corral the 75+ islands of Frobisher Bay into Category:Islands of Frobisher Bay within the parent category of Category:Islands of Qikiqtaaluk Region. Another possibility would be to create Category:Islands of the Labrador Sea instead, which would include both the Frobisher Bay and the Labrador Sea islands as Frobisher Bay is an inlet of the Labrador Sea. If we go with the latter, then I'd make sure that the Frobisher Bay islands include something like "X Island is located in Frobisher Bay, an inlet of the Labrador Sea" so that the casual reader would understand how the article got into Category:Islands of the Labrador Sea. With the latter choice, an additional 29 articles would populate the category. Any thoughts? --Rosiestep2 (talk) 16:39, 31 July 2009 (UTC) and
- (Back home, so back to my primary user account.) Ok, I've created Category:Islands of Frobisher Bay and Category:Islands of Labrador Sea -- take a look when you have a chance. I'll start populating them now. --Rosiestep (talk) 22:49, 31 July 2009 (UTC)
- I realized too late that I created Category:Islands of Labrador Sea, instead of Category:Islands of the Labrador Sea. Is there an easy fix? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:23, 1 August 2009 (UTC)
Aviation scenario for short story
[edit]Hello CambridgeBayWeather, I'm a part-time fiction author who's writing a short story about an Arctic search-rescue mission, and I'd like your feedback on the following scenario. (I've already tried the science ref desk and got some info from there, but not enough.)
Suppose there's a badly wounded man on a remote island in the Hudson Bay, and the Canadians refuse to send their own aircraft for assistance because of inclement weather, but the US Civil Air Patrol responds to the distress calls and sends one of their pilots to fly a surgeon all the way from Minnesota to the island. Well, the island is out of range of helos and single-engine planes, so they use a twin-engine plane (a Beech Queen Air, to be exact). In fact, the island is only narrowly within the Queen Air's maximum one-way range, so the pilot, after (literally) dropping off the surgeon with a parachute (she can't land the plane on the island because there's no airstrip, nor on the surrounding sea ice because of cracks / pressure ridges), must land at a small airstrip on the mainland nearby (she only has about 1/2 hours' worth of fuel left, so she can't reach any other airfield). The problem is, there's a crosswind blowing exactly perpendicular to the runway, making the landing much harder than normal. My question is, how strong can I make the crosswind and still allow her to land the plane without scuffing off a wingtip or breaking the landing gear?
Please reply either on this page, or on the science ref desk under the section heading "Crosswind landing". Your answers will be very much appreciated (maybe I'll even e-mail you a draft of my short story...) Thanks in advance! :-) 98.234.126.251 (talk) 01:00, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Climate table vandalism by Special:Contributions/210.50.107.95
[edit]This IP user appears to specialise in sabotaging climate tables by inserting false values, typically changing the integer part of a temperature by one or two degrees, as you fixed for Geography and climate of Winnipeg and I have fixed for London. S/he also sometimes creates entire series of fictitous values. E.g. for Rio de Janeiro (diff) increasing the rainful by roughly 50% each month, and for Sapporo (diff) inventing values for record high, record low and rainy days that aren't in the source. The rainy days for Sapporo were patently false, as in several months the total of rainy and snowy days added up to over fifty days. On the other hand, the user added a table to Jakarta which seems to reflect the source accurately.
I've given a final warning but as the IP address locates to Australia there will be long periods when I won't be able to track his/her contributions. Could you keep an eye out for further vandalism and report it to WP:AIV if necessary? Thanks - Pointillist (talk) 12:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

Airport lists
[edit]AWB did it automatically. It's now programmed to automatically add a defaultsort tag to most articles that aren't in "people" categories, but it has a habit of choosing really bad capitalization (e.g. for a TV station it'll add "Cfyk-Tv") and not being able to handle nuances like "the sortkey for this should be Y rather than L". I take it back out when I remember, but I don't always — so yeah, we can just go ahead and kill it. Bearcat (talk) 15:31, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
- No problem. I also added a followup supporting comment. When you get a second, could you go sign the description again (outside the /nowiki tag)? I had to take your tildes out because it would have converted them into my signature instead of yours. Bearcat (talk) 15:59, 6 August 2009 (UTC)

Hi, you recently undid a move that I had made a while ago. I think this makes things less clear, given the existence of two articles differing only by one capital letter. Others seem to feel similarly, see the recent move of Modern Theology to Modern Theology (journal), despite the fact that I had notified them on that article's talk page about your reversion of my move. It would perhaps be good if this could be sorted out so that different people don't keep moving these articles around unnecessarily. Thanks!

[edit]Bioextra is confusing a heterozygous tiger with a golden tabby. This person's edits make no sense. Bioextra says the article is too long (you've already assured me that's not an issue), but then adds useless general information on tigers which is available elsewhere on Wikipedia. I see an article title has been changed from Umar to Umar Farooq (RA). This Acronym for "Radhiallahu anhu" is used when referring to close companions of the Prophet(SAW). White Tiger
[edit]Thank you very much again. I will try and make the article shorter when I have time and pay attention to peoples' criticisms. I notice the section on Heterozygous Tiger stated that Siegfried & Roy had 23 heterozygous tigers, which I very much doubt, and no source was given. Everything which needed to be said on that subject was already contained in the article and there's no need to have a section on that. But if it did make sense it seems to me only appropriate that there would have to be another section titled Homozygous Tiger, but nobody seems to have considered that. There must be a Wikipedia page defining heterozygous. It makes no sense to consider heterozygous tigers as a kind of tiger, unless you're going to have other wikipedia articles or sections on "Heterozygous Chimpanzee" and "Heterozygous Hippo", one for every other species. It just makes no sense. 72.1.195.4 (talk) 14:36, 24 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Thank you very much for that it will save me a lot of time in the future, but I don't know how to put back Heterozygous Tiger, which should'nt exist anyway. I think people don't understand what the word means or know that it's a genetics term. In fact I think Siegfried & Roy spelled it wrong (heterozygus) in their book, which may have contributed to the misunderstanding. 72.1.195.4 (talk) 15:36, 27 August 2009 (UTC)

Hiya CBW, I saw that you had created List of mines in the Northwest Territories a while ago, I just converted it to a sortable wikitable. I had a question. That list only includes mines that are within the current NWT boundary, not mines that operated within the current Nunavut boundary prior to April 1, 1999, correct? Reason I ask is Polaris mine (currently a redirect to Little Cornwallis Island, hopefully soon to change) and Nanisivik Mine operated both within NWT and Nunavut, although they were entirely within Nunavut following the formation of Nunavut (I am sure you already know all of this). Might be a point to clarify in the lead. Rock on.--kelapstick (talk) 16:12, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
- Sounds good, thanks, I will wait until Skookum1 finishes working on it before I do that, I am pretty active working on User:Kelapstick/Polaris mine right now, if you know where I could get a free picture that would be helpful, looked on Flickr and there was nothing historic. --kelapstick (talk) 17:00, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of File:Early photgraph of CambridgeBayWeather.jpg
[edit] A file that you uploaded, File:Early photgraph of CambridgeBayWeather.jpg, has been listed in Category:Candidates for speedy deletion because it is not an image, sound or video file and does not appear to have any encyclopedic use. See section F10 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you feel that this file has a use in the encyclopedia, please place the hangon tag on File:Early photgraph of CambridgeBayWeather.jpg, then go to its talk page (by clicking Discussion at the top of that page) and insert an explanation of how the file is useful to the encyclopedia. Contest update
[edit]Well, it's just 1 day until the contest begins, so I thought I'd check in with everyone and make sure you're all ready to go. First I'd like everyone to check out the main contest page and read over the rules and the scoring system. If you have any final questions or concerns, make them known on the talk page. Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/History/2009 is the scoreboard that will be updated, you can watchlist it. Check out Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Submissions which shows how your submission page should look. Another example is at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Submissions Example, and your personal page should be listed at the footer of the page, which is also at Wikipedia:WikiProject Aviation/Contest/Users. Again, take any questions to the contest talk page.

A Day in the Life of the Mac-Attack
[edit]Dear CambridgeBayWeather,
I was just wondering the reason why you deleted the entry for "A Day in the Life of the Mac-Attack". Being that it is a real thing, why can't it be included on Wikipedia. There are several readers, me being one of them, and it has a really interesting story. I know the author and I know that he would be really excited to see that his blog is linked on Wikipedia.
Here is the link to the blog:

In the meantime, I am going to make a new page for it. I look forward to your response.

First nations
[edit]Ok little problem let me explain my reasons
I took Paleolithic, Paleo-Indians, Clovis culture, they are in the Lithic and Archaic Period ..All this periods are from before this articles time frame, The First nations article covers Post-archaic period. The article has a link to the time period = Aboriginal peoples in Canada#Lithic Period (18000 BCE - 8000 BCE) That for some odd reason you keep DEwikifying thus making it harder to read or understand what the link is. you may be right with the title or the fact its the right pathway to the sub article ..but taking the time to superwikify a link to make it easier to read only helps in navigating Wikipedia. I would guess they did that because the link actually covers Lithic and Archaic time periods not just Lithic Period as the link you made now says. The style :Main article: Lithic and Archaic periods (18000 BCE - 1000 BCE) clearly looks better and explains what you are about to link to much clearer.
Now as for Pictures (Buzzzsherman who is a major contributor to wiki) has told me that "AS far as he can see most pictures should be displayed so they are between 100 and 400 pixels wide. {see Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Images for more info}.....Lead images should usually be no wider than "upright=1.7" ("300px"). WIKI is for the world to see not just those who have accounts..If you were to logout then look at the page you would have noticed that not setting pixels on some pictures makes the layout all messed up ..LIKE File:taku.jpg. ...appears at (485 × 599 pixels) talking half the page.......Please realize that your preferences are just that your preferences and the rest of the world see pages differently!! anyways I hope this explains my reasons for my edits ...I have a laptop and the biggest problem for me is picture size in articles. The thumb command should makes pictures default of 180 pixels,,but in many cases this just leaves the original size photo....this is a WIKI software problem that has not been dealt with for windows vista. 99.246.128.164 (talk) 04:34, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Re: this edit. HA! Question, are you in disagreement with the Star's assessment of him heading the campaign (perhaps they are being a little too generous)? --kelapstick (talk) 15:56, 31 August 2009 (UTC)
- Well, the statement in the article was a little vague (was a brief bio in an article not directly about him), if another source could be found that said he was involved, not necessarily spearheading it, we could reword it to read "one of the leaders of..." or something similar. --kelapstick (talk) 16:18, 31 August 2009 (UTC)

I'm afraid I'm still confused by this. No copyright has been infringed as the article appears on MY office door as I'm the Commanding Officer of 94 Sqn. Also I wrote the article so I don't believe it's possible to infringe my own copyright is it? Rippydog (talk) 13:42, 2 September 2009 (UTC)
As you say, I own the copyright and can therefore do as I wish with the information and the article. So why can I not publish this on Wikipedia with reference to the ADCC, ATC, RAF and 9 Sqn RAF? The historian at 9 Sqn is searching for further information with regard to Sgt Wing and his service. It seems strange to me that you'll publish articles about murderers, rapists and paedophiles but not war heroes. Sgt Wing was the first ever air cadet to fly solo and led the way for thousands of young people to do something constructive with their lives. You can see why I'm confused? About this off-wiki 3 activity, I am for God's sake NOT involved in this kind of extremist action.
- This 'skolixx' user has joined topixx 5 hours ago 4, seems his only intention was to inform in an disturbing way about the template deletion. I wonder who would do that in such an obvious way? Seems like an amateur bait job to me.
- What's really erroneous is that this link has been recently updated, after it was initially -20:41, 8 September 2009 - mentioned in admins noticeboard , with a picture of Nikolaos Michaloliakos, leader of the Greek extremist group Hrysi Avgi, which OFF COURSE I HAVE NOTHING TO DO (reasonably thinking why should I do that? upgrading the link with that picture).
- The level of English is far too poor and my contribution in wikipedia proves exactly the opposite.
As for the canvassing issue I'm accused by i_Pakapshem, (5 I wrote about a multiply times blocked user, who -according to his record- is Pakapshem, and off course practically impossible to be a current admin), since I have been informed by User:Alarichus that he proposed the deletion of the specific template from irc-wikipedia. I really regret, since situation is a bit out of control, but reasonably thinking, why should I add such kind of information off wiki? Sorry for the capitals and really sorry for involving you (by accident) but I really feel sad when being involved in that kind of activity which does not represent me and what I beliefs.
I will post my comments in admins noticeboard, and add specific information about I_Pakashems record in wiki which is full of violating wp:npa, wp:incivility, with his contribution being just a number of reverts. Sorry for the caps, I'm really sorry that you have been involved on such an issue.
My contribution history proves that I'm not involved on the kind of activity which makes me sickAlexikoua (talk) 00:10, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

Note the email address to send the email that the company gave you saying it was OK to use the material. If you don't have an email then you will need to get one and there are several examples of the sort of thing you should send.

Dear CambridgeBayWeather, Please keep your hands off my speed guitar article! You are a nuisance and a pest!! Who do you think you are any way, going in and erasing my entire page and replacing with a redirect to some shred guitar page? Please explain yourself. I demand it! I have spent quite a bit of time doing research to come up with the speed guitar page content and believe it to be accurate, up to date, and concise. On the other hand, the shred guitar page has the following problems: (1) shred guitar is a slang term for speed guitar, i.e., most speed guitar players do not even use the term "shred" (2) there are errors on the shred guitar page that the author of that page refuses to correct - there errors consist of at least incorrect usage of musical theory terms, a definite indication that the writer of that article has never played guitar or studied it in the least. By the way, are you like some young kid or something? I have nothing against children, but your posted picture looks aweful young to know anything about speed guitar. Question: do you even play speed guitar? Please answer. Benny Michigan

Last revert to Robin Hood page
[edit]Hi! I just wanted to say well done for protecting the Robin Hood article from vandalism over the past few days. I try to keep my eye on it as well but invariably you get there first. I have one question though, why did you delete that last edit by an IP user? I thought what he had to say about Yorkshire residents' attempts to associate Yorkshire with Robin Hood was perfectly relevant to the article (despite not being sourced, but I could've sorted that out) and I'm sure it wasn't intended as vandalism. The other bit you deleted about "Robin Hood in Barnsdale stood" was also valid wasn't it? Just curious as to your rational concerning this. --Kohoutek1138 (talk) 01:46, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Dear CambridgeBayWeather
The article is being asked for speedy deletion because I have inadvertently offended the swedish wikipedians, by making a Swedish version of the English page. I work as a film critic and am a known scholar in Sweden and the USA: I removed their tags, not the ones that asked to improve verifiability even though there is SO much, but the comments about name dropping, which as a film critic involves siting verifiable interviews with film actors and crew. Also a comment about the article being a CV. Also there are grammar mistakes, its not my native language but second language. I asked to have it removed after doing damage control of my professionalism, and also because you can not delete an article, which I would have done from the first instance I saw these challenges.
Substance is one thing but comments that are personal are not.
At any rate, I am doing everything I can to verify every single bit of the encyclopedia information, and have removed all biographical material, other than intellectual property of published work. I have authored the page, but that should not make it of less importance regarding verifiability.
Please give me a break! I am not a criminal.
--Mjsullus (talk) 16:21, 22 October 2009 (UTC)OK I see that it is now been changed to speedy deletion. But seriously there were challenges to it which were fixed. The history of the page shows it. Anyone can make a claim but gameon is not on English wikipedia, and there is a conflict of interest here in that he is not a known film critic but has interviewed film personalities and doesnt have a page. Is this not just pure and simple envy? This is no criteria for exclusion.

RE: LEELKASE TRIBE SECTION
[edit]Hi, Cambridgebay, salutations from a fellow canadian, :-)
secondly, i've been contributing to the article of the Leelkase tribe for years now, and i've all of a sudden came to discover that it was completely deleted at first and redirected to Darood article, for reasons still unknown. so i contacted our ethipian editor "Gyrofrog" who said after i told him that Leelkase is a subclan of Darood similar to Marehan, Majerteen, etc, etc, he then corrected that mistake. Afterwards gyrofrog changed the name of the tribe all together to something like Lelkase which is unused, and a spelling mistake, since if you google it it, the results of the name Leelkase shows 90% more results, then if you were to search under Lelkase. When he also corrected that mistake after i brought much proof to him. He did not stop there, but erased all the information about the settlements and subclans of the Leelkase altogether, and i questioned him why?? Why all the other somali subclans had a chance to write about their tribe, and write their settlements and subclans, but that he took ours out??
Please help, this is not fair, either do it for all the Somali subclans of the Darood i.e. Marehan, Dhulbahante Majerteen, and also of the Hawiye i.e. Abgaal, Murosade, Habar Gedir, etc, etc.
I cannot imagine why those other clans have a chance to write their never ending list of disorganized subclans and irrelevent information, while our section is organized and lists important facts.
Please help, and either intervene, or direct me to a someone on WIKI that can truley come and stop this abuse of power by "Gyrofrog".
Thank you, and God Bless Canada, :-) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Taajir (talk • contribs) 03:38, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- CBW, feel free to read Talk:Leelkase, or for the short version, Talk:Leelkase#October_25. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 03:55, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help with Marehan, Dhulbahante and Majerteen. Those look much better, and I've left a note about it at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Somalia#Clan lineage. Thanks again, -- Gyrofrog (talk) 17:33, 26 October 2009 (UTC)
- Hi CambridgeBayweather, well done on your clean up of the Darood section. I went through the source you used, which is source #9(http://siteresources.worldbank.org/INTSOMALIA/Resources/conflictinsomalia.pdf), and on page #57, it listed the 5 main subclans of Darood, of which the Leelkase is one of the major subclans. So i have added the rest of the three subclans of Darood, but not it's sub-sub-subclans, etc, etc which the kablala had done, and is not listed on the source #9; just a short list :-)
thanx--Taajir (talk) 02:49, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Thanks for offering to file the AfDs! :) Please do, because I don't think either of them meet notability requirements.

Forum shopping
[edit]A proper way to handle cross-board posting is to create redirects to a single place of discussion, rather than calling names.
My "snipping at each other" is irrelevant to who shopped what; it was failure by opponents to address my legitimate concern of the applicability of this name calling. Various guidelines, essays, etc., are just a condensed common responses to common problems. When you refer to someone to such page, the person reads, understands and agrees, then you are done. When a person reads, understands, disagrees, and clearly states the reason, then you have to answer the concern, rather than essentially say "you are moron, we community are smart, go away". Doing otherwise is a disservice to mutual respect and cooperation. - Altenmann >t 23:42, 26 October 2009 (UTC)

WP editor cyberstalking abuse
[edit]WP editor cyberstalking abuse
[edit]--Mjsullus (talk) 16:06, 27 October 2009 (UTC)(talk) 16:04, 27 October 2009 (UTC) would like to report Gameon for harassment of legitimate contributions on Wikipedia.
This person is cyberstalking, coming into user mytalk space, unsolicited. Reading mytalk discussion not written to him. Making claims that are libelous, and unfounded based on personal opinion. No article should have to go through the unfair scrutiny that gameon has subjected this page to. If this page is deleted it will be because of harassment. Author has addressed all the issues raised from the tagging, reduced the number of links, wikified, provided verification. Author has looked at all the rules and regulations on WP with a respect for WP but not for editors who harass contributions. There are no clear cut cases for any of the issues receiving the warnings on this page. Mjsullus has not sockpuppeted. Moira Sullivan does not work for vanity presses. The information on Moira Sullivan page is verifiable.
Cyberstalking by gameon
[edit]I don't know what else to call it, this guy is following my every move, he read my comments to other editors about secondary sources on the page, and claimed I was trying to get sympathy. I asked you about the process, I saw five people write delete and wondered if they had seen the improvements. Some WP editors told me that without secondary sources the page would be deleted. I did not write these contributions, but was accused of sockpuppeting by gameon. I was also told not to write about my dissertation thesis subject, Maya Deren, in the article. I was told that robots suggested the page for two Wikiprojects, whey they were real editors, I was told that I wrote for vanity press. I have been accused of vanity and this guy is on my tail, am I the only page on Wikipedia? The guy is cyberstalking me and can provide proof if need be, and he is harrassing me, and causing undue stress. He calls interviews as a film critic with celebrities "name dropping", calls lists "indiscriminate" with verifiable published writing. Claims that he has one citation on English WP but that doesnt warn him a page, by way of comparison. This kind of badgering made me ask to remove the page on Swedish WP, and why I initially asked you to remove it. My first language is English, but this past week am often so upset that don't have time to write as a professional, which I am. Have made contributions to the Maya Deren site, this week, and a lot of the information was incorrect. But I wonder now why should I bother to contribute ANYTHING to Wikipedia. I doubt if any page is given the acid test this page has received. If reading my mail to other editors is not cyberstalking, if micromanaging and tagging anything gameon can find to discredit this page, and coming in to mytalk space and harrassing me aslo professionally , what is the point of Wikipedia? I can not believe he can get away with this. And his aim is to delete the page, no matter what , no matter how the tags are responded to. And this history will always be there, even if it stays. This is not making WP more professional it is about harassment , about coercing people to stop posting, contributing etc- I have never thought of WP as anything but a democratic forum of equals, but now I know that is not true. At least in the case of gameon
[Cyberstalking] is the use of the Internet or other electronic means to stalk someone, to harass another individual. The behavior includes false accusations, monitoring, he harassment must be such that a reasonable person, in possession of the same information, would regard it as sufficient to cause another reasonable person distress. I stand by my accusation. This is happening to me. Now. Can you make it stop?--Mjsullus (talk) 16:57, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

I didn't bookmark the online quote so I'm searching for it. - Regarding further discussion at User talk:Moonriddengirl#Quick question about copyright, I wonder if your local resources have access to information or legal documents regarding Klengenberg's citizenship at the time his book was published? According to my research, while Klengenberg was born a Danish citizen, at some point, he became a U.S. citizen. However, in 1925, he rescinded his U.S. citizenship and became a Canadian citizen. But did he retain dual (Danish) citizenship? BTW, his father remarried and several half-siblings were born in the U.S. so that might be a tie-in with why Klengenberg became a U.S. citizen; don't know if this info will help answer the issue at hand, but I figured it might assist in where to look for info. --Rosiestep (talk) 04:49, 3 December 2009 (UTC)

oil painting reproduction
[edit]Hello,
I'm creating one page named "oil painting reproduction", you said that it's copyright infrigement of http://www.art-ych.com/oil-painting-news/html/407.html.
You're wrong! I'm the original author "Lewis Liu" of this article. The website art-ych.com pirate my article without my permission!!!
The article's full name is The Industrial Report of Oil Painting Reproduction in China in 2006 -- What Course to Follow?
You may find the full article here http://www.oilpaintingfactory.com/english/report-oil-painting-industry.html, and I may send you the Chinese version if you want.
So please recover the deleted page by you!

Hey CBW, what do you think of User:Kelapstick/Nanisivik Naval Facility, ready for prime time? Nanisivik, Nunavut is getting a little template/picture heavy for the amount of text, and it is getting cluttered, especially with the size of the city infobox. I figure the Naval station is getting enough press to warrant a stand alone article now, and we can trim some from the other articles with a main template, that way we don't have to maintain the same information in three articles....Please butcher my editing as required, I don't really have time to create articles these days, but I couldn't hold off. Nice work on updating the weather templates on the settlements too, looks good. Other than that how's the weather? We've been in a cold snap here, it was -23C at the drill rigs the other day (our drillers want to go back to Alaska), coldest it has been here in 20 years. Plus about we got about a foot of snow, and the will have over 6 feet at over 7000 feet elevation (between last week and what they are expecting)...I thought I left Canada to avoid winter, shows how much I know.--kelapstick (talk) 21:06, 11 December 2009 (UTC)
- Kelapstick invited my comments here.
- I agree that there is enough information for an article devoted solely to the Naval facility. Cheers! Geo Swan (talk) 22:46, 11 December 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Hmmm, maybe I'm mistaken. But doesn't the anon... spammer use open proxies or has my memory failed me? -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 07:56, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- Re your message: I found an old anon... proxy that was blocked: 200.119.8.230 (talk). Triggered the Edit Filter for it. It was blocked by ProcseeBot for two months. So I should probably adjust my block to two months since that seems to be the standard time. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:02, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- I asked J.delanoy what is normal practice with this spammer since he just blocked a bunch of the IPs. I figured he might know. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:10, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- Well... seems to be everybody is doing something a little different. =) Big surprise. ;) Some are blocking for 12 hours, some 24, some a week, some a year. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:19, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
J.delanoy confirms proxy use, so my memory hasn't totally failed me. There's a WP:LTA#AnonTalk entry on him also confirming proxy use. I'm checking on the standard block length. I don't usually deal with proxies. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:28, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
- ...and he says he blocks for 1 year or 3-5 years if it's a repeat proxy. So... uhh... do whatever you want (i.e., the normal Wiki-way? =)). -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:32, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Funny you mention, WP:ANI, I just left a message there. I don't think resetting is necessary. If somebody else wants to reset, that's fine with me. On that note, I'm wandering off now. I'm sure everything will be sorted out on WP:ANI when I sign back on. -- Gogo Dodo (talk) 08:42, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Kelly Stine article
[edit]Mr. Cambridge.
I just wrote an article today regarding a new expression that is being used by St. Andrews College students in North Carolina. Within 2 hours of writing the article, I noticed that you had deleted it. I could see why you did that as I unfortunately referenced the name of the expression to a name of a female student. However, I have deleted that part and I believe that it can be shown on Wikipedia due to the fact that it is an expression used by students of the school and many people that have heard of the expression want to know the meaning of it as well as how it should be used. It is, like I wrote as well, becoming popular in the town as more people are using this expression.
This is my first article that I have written on Wikipedia. I admit my error was a rookie mistake but I ensure you that this will never happen again.

[edit]About this: IMO, explain or leave it out, 'cause it's only creating confusion as is, & I don't think it's necessary to know the glacial history. If you say it's on the peninsula, you're good; if you can track down a source for rebound, put in the "ex-island" with the explanation, & you're also good. Splitting the diff, in this case, strikes me a bad idea. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 22:21, 23 December 2009 (UTC) (FYI, the header is from this.)
- I'd add the name ref to entire peninsula, then, & put up a note on the talk page it used to be an island, as you explained. As for sourcing, I meant, "eventually"; I'm presuming you've got some interest in the subject, & a source will turn up. If you post on its talk, somebody else might have it already. Either way, it gets sourced & put in. TREKphiler any time you're ready, Uhura 00:23, 24 December 2009 (UTC)

Calgary/Edmonton climate
[edit]We now have two sources that apparently are saying two different things. Apparently this source is using a different system. If it used Koppen’s classification, it would not describe the two cities as a “semi-arid continental climate”. I propose saying something to the effect of ((Calgary/Edmonton)) has a semi-arid continental climate. Under Koppen’s climate classification the city features a dry version of the humid continental climate. What do you think? (G. Capo (talk) 21:36, 19 January 2010 (UTC))

WP:LEGAL, WP:OWN & WP:CONFLICT issues
[edit]Hi CambridgeBayWeather. Would it be possible to have some page protection on the Hargeisa Canadian Medical Center article? There's a user there who keeps removing any and all tags indicating that the hospital is located in the Somaliland region of Somalia. He has actually personally threatened me on my talk page with legal action if I don't stop editing what he describes as "his" article: "Hargeisa Canadian Medical Center is my business. If you don't stop editing this article I will take legal action against you. I have not authorized you to write anything about my private business. I will also be getting in contact with Wikipedia to let them know." Besides obvious WP:OWN and WP:LEGAL concerns, I think there are clearly some WP:CONFLICT issues at work here as well since the user describes the hospital as his "private business" that he has not "authorized" me to tamper with. In truth, the article barely meets the standards for notability. There is but one source in the References section on the hospital, and that ref is in Somali. A Google search also only turns a bunch of Wiki mirrors, and one spread sheet that lists the various health facilities in Somalia including this hospital. Moreover, a series of single purpose accounts have been editing the article, which doesn't exactly inspire confidence either. I don't want to completely delete the fellow's article, but things obviously can't go on as they have either. Middayexpress (talk) 00:11, 20 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi there. I just had a question regarding Vijai S. Shankar. I tagged it for speedy deletion under the G11 criterion, as I felt it was (quoting from the policy) "exclusively promotional, and would need to be fundamentally rewritten to become encyclopedic." You removed the speedy deletion tag here: [8]. I'm reasonably new to new page patrolling, and was wondering whether you could explain to me why this page didn't meet G11, and what I should look for in the future to avoid making this mistake again. Thanks! -- Lear's Fool (talk | contribs) 09:41, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Reason for revert of Space 1889 reference in Heliograph article?
[edit]The following revert to the heliograph page: 21:15, 17 February 2010 CambridgeBayWeather (talk | contribs) m (15,248 bytes) (Reverted edits by 208.48.154.67 (talk) to last version by P Carn) (undo) undid a hyphen to m-dash change (and I'd agree the hyphen is correct), but also removed this addition to the "heliograph in fiction" section:
- In the Role-Playing Game Space 1889, the Great Powers communicate with their colonial possessions on the inner planets of the Solar System by means of "orbiting heliograph stations".
Could you explain why that section was reverted? The material seems to have been accurate - looking at the referenced Wikipedia article Space 1889, even as far back as the Dec. 2007 version, the facts stated in the deleted material are in the referenced Space 1889 article. Cupping Film
[edit]Edit on "Fire Cupping" and "Hijama"
The cupping pages have been dormant for over two years and in much need of work. I intend to start trying to improve the pages. I added the film about cupping because I believe it is an important work that could help to unify and strengthen the cupping profession. I do not see this as spam, per se, but more towards informing the cupping community about attempts to advance the industry through cooperative efforts. I believe this is very relevant. I first set up a discussion page to get feedback and am interested in comments so I am not understanding why you decided to simply zap the entry before any discussion. While signing up some time ago, I am still new here.
In the external link section are some very serious spam issues that you did not address. With the quick undue you also canceled the link under external links. was that intended?
Please let experts in the field of cupping discuss this issue and decide if this pro active non-profit effort deserves some attention.
Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Signpostmaker (talk • contribs) 17:24, 28 February 2010 (UTC)

Some people might not like a few pictures. That does not mean they must be removed. [Correct]
The picture should be indicative of the person to whom the reference is being made [Do you agree?]
If so, then if I, out of my imagination or whatever, depict (draw) a person to cater to my taste and then post that picture as the PRIMARY picture of a person, wouldnt that be incorrect??
Pls consider my case

Deletion of Mohammed Daniel
[edit]Dear CBW,
Please would you allow me to contest the deletion of the article Mohammed Daniel as it is clear that the subject is notable and there were references provided that met the wiki guidelines for verifiability. Even if you look at the discussion, you would have noticed that there were more votes to keep than delete. I think it was a bit harsh of you to say that the subject 'The research done persuades me that there is nothing at this time to indicate notability' If you still feel that your decision was correct can you provide specific info on what was lacking in the notability as I have read the guidelines and do not see any probs.
Regards,BintAmeen (talk) 14:25, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
The article CYMA has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
- No sources or indication of notability in the article. Searching produced no obvious indication of notability, although existence of similar-named subjects makes it difficult to assess.
While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the dated prod
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing dated prod
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. RL0919 (talk) 17:57, 14 March 2010 (UTC)
AfD nomination of List of northernmost items
[edit]An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is List of northernmost items. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of northernmost items.
--Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:12, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Synthesis on Darod and Isaaq
[edit]Hi CBW. There is a user on the Darod and Isaaq articles who keeps adding some pretty obvious synthesis and original research. I have already explained to him what he is doing wrong on both articles' talk pages (1, 2), but he does not seem to be open to reason. Can you please have a word with him? Thank you in advance. Middayexpress (talk) 05:28, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for your help. I don't think it worked though, since he is back on both articles with the same old original research & synthesis. Middayexpress (talk) 20:44, 15 March 2010 (UTC)
