Notes on military biographies[edit]

Information icon Please note that there is a Manual of Style that should be followed when contributing to the encyclopedia in order to maintain a consistent, encyclopedic appearance. Deviating from this style, as you did at Md Mainul Islam, disturbs uniformity among articles and may cause readability or accessibility problems.

  • The office parameter of template Infobox officeholder should contain only the name of the office. To display an ordinal, such as "13th", before the name of the office, the ordinal should be placed in the order parameter. See Harry S. Truman for an example. Template:Infobox officeholder/doc tells us that an ordinal should only be used when there is a well established use of such numbering in reliable sources. President of the United States is one such office, but very few offices meet that condition. Previous discussions, for example, have reached the consensus that President of Bangladesh and Prime Minister of Bangladesh do not have a well established numbering scheme in reliable sources. None of the cited sources describe Md Mainul Islam as the 13th PSO. He may be the 13th, but I don't believe there's a well established use of such numbering in reliable sources, so he shouldn't be labeled 13th in the infobox.
  • MOS:ICON says not to use icons (flags, emblems, badges, seals, etc.) for decoration, especially in infoboxes. Study featured (i.e. Wikipedia's best) military biographies to understand what is considered appropriate versus what is considered decorative. Note that flags appear in the allegiance parameter of perhaps 10% of them (August Meyszner, for example), and in the service/branch parameter of perhaps 1% of them (Ernst Lindemann, for example). I could find none that use icons within the office, rank, or awards parameters.
  • MOS:PLACE says to add a place's modern name in round brackets after the historical name, for example "Gergovia, Gaul (in what is now France)". It is grammatically incorrect to capitalize the parenthetical expression and also incorrect to place a comma after "now". So do not write Nilphamari, Rangpur, East Pakistan (Now, Bangladesh), rather Nilphamari, Rangpur, East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
  • MOS:CAPS says to avoid unnecessary capitalization. So do not write Atiqul Islam (Brother), instead write Atiqul Islam (brother). English capitalization rules are complex; even native speakers get them wrong. A few of the most common errors to watch for are:
    • Don't capitalize a common-noun phrase just because capitals are used in its abbreviation, not General Officer Commanding (GOC), but general officer commanding (GOC).
    • Don't capitalize ranks except when used immediately before a person's name, not Brigadier General, but brigadier general.
    • Don't capitalize fields of academic study, not Business Studies, but business studies.
    • Don't capitalize job titles, not Managing Director, but managing director.

If you think I made a mistake, you can leave me a message on my talk page or ask for advice on a relevant discussion page, such as Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history. Thank you. --Worldbruce (talk) 18:36, 18 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Bruce, but I prefer to follow styles like on Generals based on South Asia (.i.e putting at least visuals for ranks and awards) other than that I would acknowledge to remove any unnecessary visuals for info box such as putting emblems or insignias for military infos. I am a former military personnel myself and have enthusiastically spend a lot of time on existing officers. please at least do not remove awards and ranks at least from infobox. thanks. COLTashrif1499 (talk) 20:35, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Other than that Md Mainul Islam is the 13th PSO according to official Armed Forces Division record. COLTashrif1499 (talk) 20:49, 19 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Overlinking + historical names[edit]

I accept your recent edits have been made in good faith, but I have reverted several of them for the following reasons:-

  1. WP:Overlinking states that we should generally avoid linking major countries (e.g. India and England) and locations (e.g. New Delhi and London)
  2. WP:SEAOFBLUE do not place links next to each other, to avoid appearing like a single link
  3. WP:GEOLINK for geographic places specified with the name of the larger territorial unit following a comma, generally do not link the larger unit
  4. Template:Infobox person - birth place - what the place may correspond to on a modern map is a matter for an article's main text, not the infobox

Please read these sections and if you have any questions, please ask. Thank you - Arjayay (talk) 10:36, 19 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out to me. You need to understand most of these Bengali Peoples' articles does not represent proper information of places of birth so, since I am not touching any of the articles rather fixing most of the infoboxes for each Bengalis, I will encounter. Please abstain reversions without discussing any of the administrators representing Bengalis since you not member of Bangladesh neither, West Bengal. Regards. Hello, Thank you for reaching out to me. Indeed I can fix the article, But you could provide me specific details and in corrections needed before executing the edit? Eager to hear from you again. COLTashrif1499 (talk) 06:52, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This version was better you can check this (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=BAF_Shaheen_College_Dhaka&oldid=1188411631) and you can look the bangla article for better understanding. Firstly this article needs reliable citations and npov. Last two lines in the history is also unnecessary. Principal and Adjutant name is also needs correction. Check its official website (https://www.bafsd.edu.bd) for correct names. And lastly some cleaning needs in the info box. 2400:C600:4510:E392:1864:FF86:3F7C:339 (talk) 07:36, 28 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

January 2024[edit]

Information icon Hello. I have noticed that you often edit without using an edit summary. Please do your best to always fill in the summary field. This helps your fellow editors use their time more productively, rather than spending it unnecessarily scrutinizing and verifying your work. Even a short summary is better than no summary, and summaries are particularly important for large, complex, or potentially controversial edits. To help yourself remember, you may wish to check the "prompt me when entering a blank edit summary" box in your preferences. Thanks! Alexeyevitch(talk) 23:38, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for reaching out to me, Most of my works are already given or summarized on the following article I am editing. Even if I they do not have a proper indication, I do acknowledge putting a summary over the article I am editing. However, please do abstain from reverting the edits based on Bengalis without discussing with any Bengali admins as you are not part of Bangladesh or West Bengal. Regards COLTashrif1499 (talk) 23:44, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's irrelevant, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia which anyone can edit. Alexeyevitch(talk) 23:50, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes! of course everyone bear the rights to edit an article if they feel if its wrong. However, unlike astounding articles we get from this amazing encyclopedia, most articles related to Bengal are fragmented and less cited. That is why I take this as a responsibility of whatever sources article may be corrected and be relevant according to policies of Wikipedia and standard infobox rules. Thank you for your concerned and good luck with your endeavours fellow Wikipedian! :) COLTashrif1499 (talk) 23:56, 31 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Request reason:

Was block indefinitely for sock puppetry, will not do again.

Decline reason:

I think your best bet for an unblock is to take the standard offer and re-apply in 6 months time with no more socking. PhilKnight (talk) 04:28, 1 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
