Non-free files in your user space

[edit]

Hey there RichardOSmith, thank you for your contributions. I am a bot, alerting you that non-free files are not allowed in user or talk space. I removed some files I found on User:RichardOSmith/Dyalog. In the future, please refrain from adding fair-use files to your user-space drafts or your talk page.

Orphaned non-free image File:Dyalog logo.png

[edit]
⚠

Thanks for uploading File:Dyalog logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Deletions

[edit]

Dear Sir,

I have nothing against you. We have had a civil exchange of oppinions even if we disagree on some issues. My opponent is a different person and my complaints are related to the differentiation in the way my articles and other articles are tagged and handled. I think it is wrong to close the discussion when I have received no answers.

I am willing to agree my views on notability are to some extent different than the posted policies. However, those policies have been fixed by wikipedians and can be improved or modified. I consider that if we find something wrong or leading to the wrong results we should not follow sheepishly a certain directive, but be willing to discuss it.

I have no hard feelings against you and hope you feel likewise. Afil (talk) 22:12, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have absolutely nothing against you either; I welcome your contributions and I merely offer my advice in the hope it helps and encourages. However, I don't think User:Biruitorul has any personal vendetta either and is unlikely to consider you an "opponent"; he is simply evaluating articles according to his interpretation of wikipedia policy and where he sees what he believes is a problem he is presenting it to the community for further discussion. You are right that Wikipedia policies are continually evolving, but WP:V is so fundamental to Wikipedia's being that it's not likely you'll change it. Notability standards, however, evolve more. RichardOSmith (talk) 23:10, 28 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for all the help, and all the explanations. I've learned a ton in the process and plan to stick around and learn more. Thanks again. Spartovi (talk) 22:39, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! RichardOSmith (talk) 09:59, 6 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Electricity meter

[edit]

You might wish to read the recent history at Talk:Electricity meter (disambiguation) (wherever the redirect ends up). There has been some poor page-moving recently, a poor semi-disambig created, and Wtshymanski does have a point here. I still don't understand thhe transistor thing. I appreciate your help with the chart info at Rupert Holmes. All the best, -- Ssilvers (talk) 20:43, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No prob; the changes were very minor but I think they make it more readable (esp. from a non-US standpoint). RichardOSmith (talk) 22:32, 5 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your Speedy Deletion Tagging

[edit]

Hi Richard, I have reverted your speedy deletion tagging of OMY. You can't A7 when notability is indicated in the article, even if not sourced (check the article's talk page for the rationale). Hence, my deletion review proposal. You can find more information on this at WP:CSD, and feel free to ask questions if you have any, and I'll answer them for you. Best, ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 20:23, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I stongly disagree, as I explained in the deletion rationale at Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/OMY - there is no credible claim of notability. You are, of course, entitled to contest the speedy deletion tag for whatever reason, but I feel it was an error to do so. Given that it is a BLP of a minor I hope that an admin sees it fairly soon and deals with it appropriately. RichardOSmith (talk) 20:59, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry you disagree, but you are incorrect. You are confusing notability with the requirements for tagging with A7. The reasoning does indeed sound credible. That your research does not support it is irrelevant for A7 tagging. All that is required is that the reasoning, true/false/cited/not is credible. And... " If the claim's credibility is unclear, you can... propose deletion (or list it on) AfD"

I've never had a CSD denied, and have done a lot of work in it with much admin guidance. I'm not trying to give you a hard time or make things up. Hope that helps, ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 21:10, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Re: "The reasoning does indeed sound credible": I think we shall just have to agree to disagree. Back in the real world, it's also clearly a G3 candidate. RichardOSmith (talk) 21:37, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Back in the real world, it's probably someone self advertising/promoting or writing an article on a friend, which thus isn't a hoax. If you keep this up, you will end up on ANI. No, that's not a threat, and I am too busy to be bothered even if I wanted to. It's what happened to an adoptee of myself and a fellow editor who was doing the same things you are (trying to apply your own interpretations to things, instead of following the letter of CSD tagging). They were forced into our Mentorship for such... so, I suggest being careful. Up to you though. ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 21:49, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted as hoax. You may wish to clean up the user's page. I'm removing the PROD, you may wish to remove your extra Speedy. ROBERTMFROMLI | TK/CN 21:53, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry - you've lost me - it's simply what the sources seem to be saying (I've read them) if you are unhappy with it, then I suggest you reword it to something you are happy with? --Cameron Scott (talk) 09:56, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I'm frankly not bothered either way, but an bit 'odd' how an IP amazingly appears to revert your edit back into place. amazing. --Cameron Scott (talk) 10:01, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I am not especially interested in the subject (that is I am not a fan, but neither do I actively dislike him or his work) and therefore believe I assessed the text you placed dispassionately. I think there are major issues with it. The article lead is intended to provide a concise introduction to the subject which should include key facts - in the case of a performer/entertainer it should therefore include career highlights; more mundane stuff (such as what you included) is mere trivia that does not really belong. More importantly, howevever, it removed a significant career highlight (major West End show) and replaced it with text that read as highly dismissive: "he is currently appearing in shopping centres and is scheduled to appear on the P&O ferry crossing from Southampton to Bruges". Factually that may be correct, but it came across in an extraordinarily negative way, which is why I cited WP:NPOV when reverting. I assume that was not your intention, but it could certainly be read as though it was.
I guess the IP agrees. From a whois lookup they are a 3 Mobile Broadband user in the UK. I myself do occasionally use 3 for internet access, but in this particular instance it was not me re-reverting you. RichardOSmith (talk) 16:41, 17 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RGS Worcester

[edit]

Hi, please could you respond to my comment on the RGS Worcester talk page? I asked a few months back. If you do not, I may revert everything you did. Thanks, Btline (talk) 22:32, 22 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have not been following the page so did not see your comment, but note that the merge consisted almost exclusively of removing the content from the page RGS Worcester and placing it back unchanged at Royal Grammar School Worcester along with what was already there, to create the single article; I don't think this in itself resulted in any of the changes you cited. Can you be more specific? RichardOSmith (talk) 06:07, 23 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
A few years ago, RGS Worcester merged with The Alice Ottley School. I put a lot of effort to merge information from both pages and add new up to date info. Since the most recent changes, all the AO information has disappeared. The page is basically the same as it was before the merger. I am disappointed my hard work has been removed. Btline (talk) 00:37, 24 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, I think you'll have to look more closely at the page histories to see what has happened as I did not remove anything; other editors were involved and I suggest you start a discussion on the talk page about it. But note that things were in quite a mess when I merged RGS Worcester and Royal Grammar School Worcester. Those were two separate articles, one for the school pre-merger and one for the school post-merger. That may have seemed an appropriate way to reorganise things at the time of the merger if it had been presented as the creation of an entirely new school, but from the schoool website now - which uses both names interchangeably, and which talks of its history going back pre-merger - this is not how things appear to have turned out: one school simply expanded by absorbing another just like many businesses do. I imagine this is why things may have been reworked and it is certainly my suggestion that the RGS article covers the entire school history largely without The Alice Ottley School's individual history and that the Alice Ottley School article ends at the point of the merger. I also note your concern on the article talk page that many details are incorrect, but there have not been adequate references presented to verify this either way. Hi Richard. I've been chasing copyvios as fast as I can for the last 6 hours and can hardly keep up with it. Five year plans

[edit]

Hi I am Atul from India. My contribution to the article "Five Year Plan" has been deleted because of not giving citations. I have no backup of the information. I request you to please forward me my contribution. I will surely add citation to the article and re edit the article. Thank You Atulsingh05 (talk) 09:58, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your contributions have not been deleted; you can view all previous versions of the page from the "history" tab at the top of the page. However, the problems were deeper than just citations: you were analysing the plans and providing a critique; that was original research (see WP:OR, WP:NOT#ESSAY, WP:SOAP and WP:NPOV). RichardOSmith (talk) 10:22, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Hey, Richard, I am a Campus Ambassador assigned to the India Education Program. This user met me today and explained to me his problem. I though the content had been blanked but as I check it out, you have only reverted it. I have only one question. Will it be ok, if I userfy the content to this sandbox. If it is only a question of Verifiability, not WP:COPYVIO, is it ok to allow the user to actually modify and update with references in his userspace. Let me know if that is possible. Cheers, Debastein1 (talk) 13:46, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
There is technically no reason why you should not copy any of the text to a user page. But I reiterate - it is not just a WP:V issue, nor is it anything to do with WP:COPYVIO - the text added commentary and opinion, which is not appropriate for an encyclopaedic article. RichardOSmith (talk) 15:36, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, I've explained the concept to the user personally, just about a few minutes ago and have moved his contribs to, User:Atulsingh05/Five-Year plans of India. I've tried to explain WP:OR, WP:NOT#ESSAY, WP:SOAP and WP:NPOV) to him. Regards, --Debastein1 (talk) 16:47, 3 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Deleted files

[edit]

Hi A file (File:Mobile payments model india.png] under an F3 speedy deletion request. I had created both images myself with substantial effort, and I'm not aware of what the licensing issues are. I have taken the matter up with Fastily(talk), who issued the notices, so that I can upload them again correctly. Meanwhile, could you please email those files to me so that they are accessible to me? I'm a little new to content creation, and I don't really know whats happening, so please do excuse me if I've made some stupid goofs. Tanmaig (talk) 14:26, 6 January 2012 (UTC) Tanmaig (talk)[reply]

I think you have us mixed up; I tagged them for deletion and User:Fastily deleted them. I will add more comment at his page. RichardOSmith (talk) 14:29, 6 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard. I understand and fully respect your comment, but one personal policy and philosophy is that I will never volunteer my time to search for sources for wealthy multi-national concerns or for uncivil creators who attack the very essence of what Wikipedia is and its regular editors. I did what I could in declining the patroller's CSD and passing the article to AfD, but I'd rather help a garage band or an emerging novelist on the road to notability. Cheers, Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:51, 21 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not for helping anything on the road to notability; surely we write about things only when notability has already been attained. I can understand your favouring certain subjects over others and sympathise with it, but I tried to assess this article - like others - strictly according to the guidelines. I, too, have a "problem area" - for me it's US college sports teams; the bar for inclusion seems way lower than other subjects. I keep clear of those articles (nominating, or commenting at AfD) because I seem to be out of kilter with the majority opinion. RichardOSmith (talk) 14:26, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Why does every sports person who has played one professional game as a reserve, every street musician, every bit part actor, every kid who went on X Factor and Got Talent, and every small town hack and painter merit an article on the flimsiest of sources, while life-long academics have to jump through a whole page of hoops? Oh well...
BTW, I've just blocked the vandal IP. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 14:49, 22 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are wholly wrong and users should very well be deterred from Wikipedia if it is to be allowed to be blatently used as a propaganda platform. Northern Ireland is a separate country to the Republic of Ireland and there is absolutely no consensus for deleting the Northern Ireland page and replacing it with the Republic. The redirect has been forced purely out of 'obvious poltical propaganda reasons without any consensus whatsoever (contrary to what the vandals claim) and unless Wikipedia is biased against Northern Ireland this should not be tolerated.Seamus48 (talk) 00:30, 26 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Deuce Article

[edit]

Hello Richard! I am just messaging you to quote your addition to the "Article For Deletion" of Deuce

"I too agree the subject is likely to become sufficiently notable for an article in future but WP:CRYSTAL obviously applies here. Furthermore, multiple previous AfDs have resulted in the article redirected so we should also consider whether there is good reason for overturning that and as you say, it's borderline at best. I too think it quite reasonable to userfy the article pending any change in circumstance which would overturn a delete outcome - but given the number of times the article has previously come back against consensus I would still prefer a delete and salt outcome so that its resurrection is properly discussed at WP:DRV and the matter is unambiguously settled"

Deuce has recently released his début solo album and is currently charting at #2 in the US rock charts, this alongside various other recent notable events (I.E Hot Topic interview, Musique Plus performance + interview, iHeart Radio interview, Fight to Unite tour, etc) surely push Deuce to being granted his own wikipedia page? Thank you for your time, I'm not very experienced with wikipedia and I saw you clearly had an unbiased approach, so I just messaged you instead. '#TrueBlue' (talk) 22:47, 24 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads-up. I also just posted a comment at Talk:Hollywood Undead ([1]). It looks like he's on the cusp of meeting inclusion guidelines - it could be argued that he's already notable per WP:GNG but at the point the album charts in a WP:GOODCHARTS it would be pretty certain, per WP:MUSICBIO. Because this is an encyclopedia and not a news outlet or fansite I advise caution, and waiting until the album does chart. See also the essay Wikipedia:The world will not end tomorrow. Race Horses

[edit]

For what it's worth, the entire content of the band's article at the time I deleted it was Race Horses are a Welsh alternative pop group from Aberystwyth, Wales. The band consists of Meilyr Jones (lead vocals and bass guitar), Dylan Hughes (synths and guitar), Gwion Llewelyn (drums). So while it's certainly possible that they might be notable enough for a properly written and properly sourced new article, that particular version of the article doesn't demonstrate the fact at all. Bearcat (talk) 20:34, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks for checking for me! RichardOSmith (talk) 21:45, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Page move

[edit]

Hello, RichardOSmith. When you moved Federal Executive Council to a new title and then changed the old title into a disambiguation page, you may have overlooked WP:FIXDABLINKS, which says:

A code of honor for creating disambiguation pages is to fix all resulting mis-directed links.
Before moving an article to a qualified name (in order to create a disambiguation page at the base name, to move an existing disambiguation page to that name, or to redirect that name to a disambiguation page), click on What links here to find all of the incoming links. Repair all of those incoming links to use the new article name.

It would be a great help if you would check the other Wikipedia articles that contain links to "Federal Executive Council" and fix them to take readers to the correct article. Thanks. R'n'B (call me Russ) 21:49, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You are right - I will get onto it. Thanks for reminding me. RichardOSmith (talk) 22:29, 20 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy deletion declined: Acoustic Memo-Remake

[edit]

Hello RichardOSmith. I am just letting you know that I declined the speedy deletion of Acoustic Memo-Remake, a page you tagged for speedy deletion, because of the following concern: Not patent nonsense. If there is no such genre, try WP:CSD#G3, WP:PROD, or WP:AfD. Thank you. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 22:44, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I kind-of expected that to happen, but it is incoherent gibberish. "Acoustic Memo-Remake - is a genre of music that developed between 2011 and 2012 in the basis of which lies borrowing of figure words from MEM-roller for the subsequent using they as a text of composition or parody performed an acoustic guitar" is just a random collection of words with no actual meaning - i.e. nonsense. Still, it is your right to decline it. RichardOSmith (talk) 22:48, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
At first I thought it was a (really bad) machine translation. But I'm starting to agree with you that it's nonsense. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 22:53, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for reconsidering :-) RichardOSmith (talk) 22:57, 15 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, BC108. You have new messages at Faizanalivarya's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi RichardOSmith. I created the article to provide encyclopedic information about the existence of this company. The purpose of this article is not to promote or advertise for the company, as you can see from the neutral tone and language used in the article. The references and notes have been provided sufficiently. Future references might be added for this article if necessary. I created this article in prior reference to other articles that provide the similar information about the similar entities. For example Grocery Direct is a Trucking/Transportation company. Prior to creating this article, I looked at articles about YRC Worldwide, J.B. Hunt, and Saddle Creek Corporation, all of which are of the same category. And they were still in existence. The purpose of these references is to make sure that my article is not an advertisement and that I use the guideline from approved articles about similar companies. Please consider this intention of information provision rather than an intent to promote the company, and remove the speedy deletion nomination tag immediately. [edit]

Why was Unified Young Leaders delete? Is there anything that I can make for it not be deleted? (UYL lead (talk) 22:37, 4 March 2015 (UTC))[reply]

It was deleted because there was no credible claim that the organisation was notable. Wikipedia is not where information originates; if the organisation was notable you would be able to find discussion about it in reliable third party outlets. None was cited in the article and I could find none from my own searches. RichardOSmith (talk) 08:17, 5 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

WP:A1 tagging

[edit]

Hi, I am declining your bunch of speedy deletions (eg Hemibagrus nemurus and others) because they don't meet WP:A1 that states "If any information in the title or on the page, including links, allows an editor, possibly with the aid of a web search, to find further information on the subject in an attempt to expand or edit it, there is enough context that A1 is not appropriate." This had me puzzled for a moment. The page in question was a welcome and notification of a speedy nomination deletion, placed automatically by Twinkle, when I nominated a page created by User:Gp980 for speedy deletion. It transpired that User talk:Gp980 was "booby trapped" and was a redirect to Gp980. I too would like it to be deleted and have updated the CSD tag to {{db-author}} RichardOSmith (talk) 20:07, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have !voted there. To answer your question to the nominator: even if a group is notable, each album has to be independently notable for it to justify having separate article. If it's not then the expectation is that it will be included in the main article (without undue coverage) and the album "page" is simply a redirect to the parent article. This is often not followed: many groups and bands have complete sets of articles for their recordings and those articles are often nothing more than a track listing. But that is not a valid argument in an Article For Deletion discussion (see WP:WAX). In this case, I believe that sufficient independent notability can be shown but the final decision will be made by the closing administrator based on the arguments put forward. You can help get the outcome you want by providing further evidence the album is independently notable. The criteria are at WP:NALBUM; anything there which you can show in reliable sources is met will help. Only one of the seven requirements has to be met, but the stronger each case is made and the more that are met, the better the chance of the article being kept. RichardOSmith (talk) 20:51, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@RichardOSmith: Dear Richard;
Many thanks for your kind assistance in this matter. Your explanation is most helpful too.
So, would you recommend that I include, in the 'External links' section of the article, the links [to Acoustic Guitar, etc.] that you provided in your vote?
Thank you for your continued advice; I very much appreciate it.
With kind regards;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk) 21:09, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That would not hurt. If you wanted to expand it a bit you could create an entire "critical reception" section. Here's an example I plucked out at random: Supernature_(Goldfrapp_album)#Critical_reception. You can !vote at the AfD discussion too, even though you created the article. Hi, Richard. Astro_erin created an account just a week ago in order to participate in the Smithsonian Women in Science Edit-a-thon. She had only 15 edits when she hit the save button to put her first article, Catherine Corrigan, in Wikipedia at 19:46 UTC. You plopped a WP:PROD on it at 20:10 while the edit-a-thon was still working. Seeing a header on her new article was upsetting. More experienced folks explained. She forgot an edit summary as she removed the PROD but she did explain in the article talk page. Cari Corrigan is among the world's top experts on antarctic meteorites. She was a member of two ANSMET expeditions (plus other trips to cold places to collect meteorites). She moved to a lab/office to curate and study meteorites. She's co-author of books and dozens of studies. You or I might have written an article in a tenth the time... but new Wikipedians learn best by doing. Actually, Erin learned about PROD this afternoon, too. Educational but a bit too soon.

Astro_erin is PI of a project over at the Goddard Space Flight Center. She's extremely knowledgeable about asteroids and other space rocks. She's also enthusiastic about contributing to Wikipedia. She was at the edit-a-thon to learn how to do outreach from NASA, JPL and such to Wikipedia. She's going to be a really productive Wikipedia editor.

Please take a minute to check a user's log and contrib's before dropping a CSD or PROD on a new article. Cut noobs some slack; make a note to recheck an inadequate stub in a couple of days. If there's not improvement, tag it then. By the end of this weekend I hope to coach Erin through the WP:DYK process to get her article featured on the main page.

Looking above, I see that you're usually helpful. Please keep it up but watch out for noobs who are just learning. Take care, DocTree (ʞlɐʇ·ʇuoɔ) WER 03:37, 28 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I commend all programmes aimed at promoting participation at Wikipedia and don't want to discourage that process. In this particular case I am still far from convinced Catherine Corrigan meets inclusion notability guidelines. Because a PROD notification is removable without explanation (whereas even a notability tag warrants some discussion before removal) the weakest indication I could have given was to propose it for deletion. Wikipedia's notability rules should be applied consistently and perhaps the real issue here is that the new user was asked to create a "risky" article in the first place. Thanks for reviewing Synergita page. But it is not at all a promotional page. I dont know why you found it promotional. But i have only mentioned basic details about Synergita on that page nothing like a promotional content. Since there is no section to save as draft that's why i had to publish it... But i want some time to update the content. But this is wrong how can any one delete the account without informing and giving time even.

Please reconsider it. And I will update the content as per your guidelines.

The two problems were that (a) there was no credible indication of notability - see WP:ORG for the required standards, and (b) it was written in a promotional way - see WP:SPAM. As you appear to be connected to the company you should be very wary of writing about it, and only do so in an objective manner. RichardOSmith (talk) 17:32, 4 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Latest news... ;-))

[edit]

Dear Richard,
Since you bestowed that wonderful barnstar on me not long ago, I thought I should continue to earn it by inviting you to read the latest version of the article on Andy Irvine, whenever you might feel in need of a pleasant break.
After my big push to create all the missing WP articles for the Patrick Street albums a few weeks ago, I realised that I could still single out—in Irvine's own article—those specific pieces he contributed to these albums; generally, anything from three to seven pieces that he wrote or adapted, which are his own and separate from other pieces contributed by his collaborators.
Then, it suddenly occurred to me that I'd come up with a generic structure that could be applied, throughout his article, for all his other collaborations!
So, I first experimented by creating new sections for all the Planxty albums, and then applied the structure that summarises all the pieces he contributed to each album (again, about three or four songs/tunes each time), and I thought it had worked well because it made the article really informative about Irvine's impressive creativity.
Then, I thought it would be consistent to apply this structure to the section about Sweeney's Men and their eponymous album of 1968 and, once again, I dare say it's worked really well, in the sense that the reader now finds a regular pattern of exposition for all the collaborative works that Irvine has produced from the start, and throughout his career.
The exceptions, of course, are his solo albums, where all the tracks are described in the 'Overview' section of each solo album's own article; so, because all the tracks are his own choice, there is no need to apply the same structure to those.
As you will also discover (if you hadn't already), I have now added poem-style quote boxes for one of his songs in most sections. This is partly to provide the reader with examples of his work, but also as a way of adding 'illustrations' to the article, in the absence of photos of Irvine (or of most of his collaborations, with the exception of LAPD) in Commons. I have already approached a couple of other editors—who seem to be keen uploaders of photos into Commons—for help with uploading such photos, but I have not yet received any replies.
So, Richard, thank you for letting me know what you think, if/when you have the time to browse the article. Of course, please also let me know of any concerns you might have, as I very much value your considered advice and guidance.
With kind regards for now;
Patrick. ツ Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 23:18, 6 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Many thanks for the update - I hadn't visited in a while. Nor, until I came upon your articles, had I previously known about this artist and I shall have to seek out some of his work!
I have to confess I'm a little uneasy about the lyrics being reproduced - it seems there is likely to be a copyright issue with them being here.
RichardOSmith (talk) 18:01, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Richard,
Thank you for your helpful feedback. I don't have a problem with removing the lyrics for copyright reasons. I found the collapsible, poem-style template among the quote box templates and, since the example showed a poem, it inspired me to use that template for Irvine's songs. To be honest, I simply assumed that was the whole purpose of the template: to help illustrate articles with sample poems or song lyrics. But I am glad you raised the copyright issue and I will conform with the guidelines; what's important is that the article achieves the highest possible standard.
As for Irvine's work, there's lots of it on YouTube, including my own tribute channel to him, called "AndyzFanz" which, in my experience, is best looked at from a computer screen rather than a mobile device. As you probably gathered, I collected his albums over the decades, along with a good number of books and articles, which is why it was such good fun to add all these citations in the article.
Thanks once again for your advice, Richard.
With kind regards for now;
Patrick. Pdebee.(talk)(guestbook) 20:43, 7 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Richard;
Just to confirm that I've now removed all the poem-style quote boxes with lyrics of Irvine's songs. I'll re-think the remaining content and its format tomorrow. Thanks once again for your helpful advice.

I recently removed a speedy delete tag that you had placed on Tom and Jerry: Season 4 (1960-1961). I do not think that Tom and Jerry: Season 4 (1960-1961) fits any of the speedy deletion criteria  because So far as i can tell, this isn't a direct copy of content from Tom and Jerry filmography, nor does it look like a typical test edit. If it shouldn't exist, clearer and better reasons need to be stated. I request that you consider not re-tagging Tom and Jerry: Season 4 (1960-1961) for speedy deletion without discussing the matter on the appropriate talk page. DES (talk) 21:02, 13 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I replied to your comment on the talk page, as follows: "This article consists of a copy of a part of Tom and Jerry filmography - specifically the sections for the years 1955 to 1958 inclusive, with the first four rows of the 1955 table replaced, the fifth row partially deleted and the 1955 and 1956 table headers removed. The titles in those first four rows are of episodes elsewhere in the filmography but with new 1960 dates; in three of the four cases the dates are same as each other. It's difficult to make sense of what the page is trying to be but I contend that this is either a test page as nominated or a recently created article that duplicates an existing topic". A2Z Support , as it shows by name Richard , it's website not for promotional purposes it's rather just like BBC etc. You should have first reviewed at least the references before deletion of page. It's very much unfair if anyone put's tag on one's page and the administrators delete the page. It's a kind request that please restore A2Z Support Page as i have done so much efforts for making this page. I will be thankful to you in this act of kindness M. New sockpuppet of Zurich00swiss

[edit]

Hey there. Can you maybe have a look after user InternationalAirlines? He shows the same violent and annoying behavior as his predecessors - also in the same range of articles like Zürich Airport - and continues his vandalizing work despite several warnings from several users. You might be able to report him? Best regards! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 46.244.138.117 (talk) 13:57, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the heads up - I had already wondered whether there was a connection but hadn't seen anything conclusive enough to report. I'll take another look in due course. RichardOSmith (talk) 18:36, 5 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
User:HkCaGu thinks so too and has raised this at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Zurich00swiss. I have added a comment there. RichardOSmith (talk) 06:47, 6 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hi, RichardOSmith, I'm Wjkxy. Bbb23 blocked me as a sockpuppet of zurich00swiss. Can you investigate about it? Only because I remember that I made the wrong defence, but after that I tell you something about another sockpuppet... so why do I have done it? I'm mad? No, I'm not zurich00swiss! Can you help me? Best regards. Paolo/Wjkxy — Preceding unsigned comment added by 193.207.239.199 (talk) 08:12, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • I guess the defence you are referring to is here: User_talk:RichardOSmith/Archive_1#User:Newdestination? That might have been construed as demonstrating a connection between you and Newdestination but I had not interpreted it that way. Indeed, I thought it very odd that you had been blocked as well as the latest sock. If you were the same user, it would have been a very elaborate ruse to fake a long conversation between "you" and "you" on your home page! However, by engaging with these socks you have been playing with fire a bit. I cannot see the checkuser results so cannot tell exactly why you were included in the block, but you can still edit your own user page and my suggestion is that you log in and appeal the block per the instructions there. RichardOSmith (talk) 09:31, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • Richard, you might be interested to know that two accounts belonging to the same person talking to each is not uncommon. Sometimes they even give each other barnstars.--Bbb23 (talk) 10:43, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
  • @Bbb23: - good point, and I have seen this in the past. I found it surprising in this case - but you have the tools for checking such things, not me. Just so that it isn't missed: in the section in my talk page archive linked above, after user:Wjkxy realised he was mistaken to defend sock Newdestination, he alerted me to the fact that user Boeing C"100"S had thanked him for his initial support and thereby helped expose this new sock. If Wjkxy is playing games, he appears to be doing it very well. RichardOSmith (talk) 11:53, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Micro bit article

[edit]

Hi there,

For the record, I didn't write the article. I merged it with a fork made by another user.

It does need some substantial rewriting, agreed.

--RaviC (talk) 15:47, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You are right; I initially missed that and will issue the same spam message to the original content creator. The source should have been deleted as spam rather than merged, IMO - the same rules apply to the BBC as everyone else :-) RichardOSmith (talk) 17:34, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Fleetwood Mac songs

[edit]

I see you've turned a couple of Fleetwood Mac song articles into redirects – I was wondering if you'd have a look at a few others. I'd do it myself but, during a discussion with the creator of these, I made the mistake of promising that I wouldn't delete his work. I was sort of hoping someone would come along and take a look at them. My main issues are with Thoughts on a Grey Day and Sunny Side of Heaven, and a number of songs from Behind the Mask. Thanks, Bretonbanquet (talk) 22:40, 3 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have not yet looked at these but I will do so. RichardOSmith (talk) 22:19, 4 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have nominated two of the tracks on Behind the Mask at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Freedom (Fleetwood Mac song); I thought the remaining tracks were not obvious candidates. I agree that Thoughts on a Grey Day and Sunny Side of Heaven are also not notable independently of Bare Trees and have nominated those at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Thoughts on a Grey Day. I see that Fireflies (Fleetwood Mac song) has also been nominated by someone else but I think that one does meet inclusion requirements. RichardOSmith (talk) 12:37, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Nothing Without You (Fleetwood Mac song), Two Kinds of Love, Temporary One, Slow Dancing, That's the Way That Love Goes and Skies the Limit all appear to be non-notable too, though I haven't researched them further and have not nominated them for deletion. RichardOSmith (talk) 12:51, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing that. "Fireflies" just about meets inclusion requirements (as does "Slow Dancing", I think) but I'm not convinced either will ever be anything more than a stub. Let's see how the current AfDs go, and then I'll look at some others. Cheers, Bretonbanquet (talk) 18:13, 7 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard, this is unbelievable - I actually have Kosta Nikas up on edit at the moment as we speak.... I didn't so much as have a second to blink before the previous user came and deleted it... could you please allow me to work up this article ... i've been on a steep learing curve with templates etc AS_Sydney (talk) 09:34, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's a mal-formed page and there are no supporting references. On this occasion it was nominated for deletion an hour and a half after it was last edited. The best way to work on an article before moving it into article space is to use your User:Stav Sydney/sandbox. RichardOSmith (talk) 09:41, 11 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reviewing Colchester Art Society

[edit]

Hi Richard, thanks for reviewing Colchester Art Society. I have added several secondary sources, and hope they provide enough information to evidence notability. I presume it is courteous to ask you to re-review rather than removing the notability and reference warnings at the top of the page myself? Any guidance is appreciated as I am keen to be able to contribute usefully to wikipedia but have little time to explore the etiquette or requirements around external commitments. Kaavous (talk) 10:50, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

You could remove the tags if the concerns have been addressed or by explaining why you otherwise believe they do not apply in the edit summary - but I'm grateful to you for discussing it here. I think it possible that some editors may still feel that the article does not sufficiently affirm notability but I am happy to remove the tags and have done so. RichardOSmith (talk) 22:51, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks Richard. I will continue to source information on this as I do think the organisation had a considerable influence and impact, bringing to light an important group of artists. I am sure there is evidence of this notability out there and I'll try my best to uncover it and demonstrate it. It's an area of interest that I am just exploring and am keen to share.Kaavous (talk) 12:58, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Keith Ansell-Pearson

[edit]

Hi. Why did you remove the new image that I uploaded? How is it "Invalid use of non-free image"? -Mohanbhan (talk) 22:34, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It's made clear in the licence: it is claiming fair use of a newspaper page or article for use in an article about the newspaper. (It's apparently from a book, anyway.) You cannot use any image claiming fair use here because that's only permissible when no free equivalent could be created, and it could in this case. RichardOSmith (talk) 22:42, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have explained why the free equivalent can't be created. Can you pls be a little reasonable here? This is the second image that I have uploaded for the same page and this isn't the first time I am uploading images for fair use. There is no license which allows for the use of a person's non-free image for a BLP article--that's why the "newspaper page" license has been used. -Mohanbhan (talk) 23:00, 14 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
You have contested the speedy deletion nomination of the image and asserted that it does meet WP:NFC, but I have not seen any explanation as to why a free equivalent cannot be created - and given that you or someone else could simply go and take his picture, I don't believe any such explanation can be given. The fact that you can't find a suitable licence surely indicates to you that the image is not licensable, not that you have to bend the rules? You have also pasted copyright text into the article ([2]) - persistent copyright violations will likely invite editing restrictions. RichardOSmith (talk) 06:38, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ah, sorry - I missed "person in question reclusive, unwilling to be photographed". Have you got any proof of that? He works as a lecturer, attends book signings, has appeared in a BBC television documentary and has posed for other portraits, so the evidence is against it. RichardOSmith (talk) 07:14, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry the "evidence" you have provided does not show that he is not reclusive. (But that he is, is a fact; in the absence of written reports one can only confirm this by asking his students or colleagues.) Being a lecturer, doing the obligatory book signings, speaking for less than 5 mins on a documentary on Nietzsche -- on whom he is one of the foremost authorities in English -- does not make him "not reclusive". Anyway, I have offered to use the other image (File:Keith Ansell-Pearson.jpg) on the file talk since the screenshot license permits the use of "contents" from a television "program". -Mohanbhan (talk) 07:45, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is not for me to prove that he he is not reclusive but for you to prove that he is. The other file is also invalid here - it can only be used in articles about the programme itself. RichardOSmith (talk) 07:55, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you are being nasty but that's OK. I have quoted the terms of the screenshot-license verbatim on file talk which says it can be used in an article about the "contents" of a television program. The article on KAP is about the "content" of a television program. I will contest the deletion. Have a nice day. -Mohanbhan (talk) 08:17, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not "nasty" (and please observe WP:NPA) but concerned that copyright is respected. Your other picture is not being used on an article about a "program [Tate Modern: The Enemy Within] and its contents", and even if it was it still could not be used because a non-free alternative could be created. This seems perfectly clear to me. I don't think Wikipedia attempts to protect itself from copyright lawyers just for the sake of it. RichardOSmith (talk) 08:29, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think you need to stop WP:EDITWAR: you are frequently reverting an image whose deletion has been contested, and doing it while the matter is being discussed. I wished you a nice day. It is clear who is observing WP:NPA and who is not. -Mohanbhan (talk) 08:52, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
WP:NPA specifically refers to personal attacks. I hope that now user:RHaworth has deleted the images and reiterated the problem to you on his talk page you will take stock of the advice being given. On this issue I think you have been mistaken but your edit history clearly shows this was an unfortunate exception to the norm. RichardOSmith (talk) 15:16, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Zurich00swiss

[edit]

Hi RichardOSmith, I'm Zurich00swiss and after sending a lot of messages to Bbb23, who is continually deleting everything, I'm trying to apologize for all the vandalistic revisions that I've done. In addition, I can't immagine how Bbb23 could think that wjkxy is me. We have talked together on another chat and we noticed that: 1: we live in two different cities (But in the same part of Italy) 2: He can speak English, I know something like three words of it. 3: He started editing Wikipedia before the first zurich00swiss acces. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 151.19.40.33 (talk) 10:22, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I was surprised that wjkxy got blocked, but the blocking administrator could see the logs, not me. I am not an admin, but I often see admins suggest the WP:Standard offer in such cases - I suggest you both familiarise yourselves with it and approach the relevant blocking admins offering to meet its requirements. RichardOSmith (talk) 15:05, 15 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi RichardOSmith. First of all, i'd like to thank you for the trust that you have given us. After reading your message, I've showed it to Wjkxy and we decided to follow your suggestion, that is to satisfy administrators with all their requiments. As a last favour, I would like to ask you how to do the standard offer, because it's not really clear for us.
Best regards

Good morning I'm zurich00swiss, a stupid and naive user, a user who has done something that is like destroying his dream: flying. I'm really young and I know I made a mistake, I know that you aren't probably interested in what I'm writing because I'll probably remain blocked. I created many sockpuppets because I wanted to continue editing my favourite airports, airlines but specially my dreams. I'm apologize for everything I've done; I want to became a pilot in Swiss International air Lines, this is the reason of my nicknames... If you give me the last chance I will surely be better, if I could go back to the past I'd never made this mistake, this stupid mistake of being a person without a hart with a part of my life! Without Wikipedia I'm empty, so I would like to ask you to give me the last chance. Best regards. THANK YOU ZURICH00SWISS.

Mile of Music

[edit]

Hi RichardOSmith, I saw you labeled Mile of Music as a possible advert. I'm relatively new to wiki so any help would be appreciated. What specifically made you think it was written like an advertisement? I'm happy to change it but not sure what would need changing. I used other music festivals as a template to creating this one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Delith (talkcontribs) 21:19, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I appreciate your bringing the article to Wikipedia. The tag is to alert editors to help develop it further and rework some of the content into a more neutral style as in my opinion the style of writing is currently very promotional throughout (e.g. "The huge success of the festival over the years has provided numerous benefits to the local community", "Musical highlights included") and overly covers the content of the festival without discussing the "why" or the "how". RichardOSmith (talk) 21:53, 26 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]

So sorry

Are you sure that's the meaning of speculation

[edit]

Whether the act occurred or not may be a matter of speculation. Whether the photograph exists or not may be a matter of speculation. But the legality of the act is not speculation, it's a legal opinion, and one that was outlined in the cited article (see here). Given that cited article, are you sure "commentary on speculation" is an accurate statement? Regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 20:20, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

"Let's imagine you are a serial molester. Not saying you are, just let's imagine. But suppose you were - wouldn't that be a bad thing? Oh, the shame. You'd get locked up for that, you would, you pervert." See the analogy? Original research and speculation, and probably libellous with it - not something that belongs here. RichardOSmith (talk) 21:08, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I do not see the analogy. Taking your points in order as follows:
  • WP:OR. Citing a source on whether oral sex with a dead pig is illegal is not WP:OP on my part: I'm not reaching that conclusion, the source is making a statement, not me.
  • Speculation. A source stating that an act is legal is not speculation.
If you feel that the article should not exist, then state your case on the article's entry Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Piggate. But whilst it does exist, adding cited non-speculative sources to it is neither speculation nor WP:OR: it's simply writing the article. Regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 21:29, 22 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I've addressed your point on my talk page. Regards, Anameofmyveryown (talk) 09:19, 28 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello

[edit]

I saw that you started patroling Terry Brooks bibliography, would you be so kind to point out other authors, within the following genres: space opera, military science fiction, historical fiction and high fantasy - that need redirection and creation of new bibliographic pages so that articles are more synthesized? Because as you can see R.A. Salvatore, Tad Williams and Terry Brooks' bibliographies needed to be created and redirected to more appropriate new pages, because these respective authors' pages were getting out of proportion.

Kindest regards: The Mad Hatter (talk)
I came upon the page at new page patrol, which is my principal editing activity on Wikipedia. As such, I am looking for pages with obvious problems where some remedial action is required quickly. Your article had no such concerns so I marked it as patrolled and moved on. I have some areas of interest where I do get more deeply involved but I hope you won't be too offended when I say that these literary genres don't really come into my area of interest and there's not much I feel I can do to help. Insight Corporation Page Deletion

[edit]

You marked my page for deletion. I feel that this page is not complete yes. Just because I save it for later does not make it right to delete every page that is not fixed. Lots of pages have issues and stay on there for months. I volunteer to fix the issues once I have been told what they are and the deletion tag is removed Insightcorporation (talk) 22:37, 5 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'll leave it up to you if you want to delete this. I was originally just making what I thought was a private stub in my own sandbox area https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:DrMiaow/Rivalry_(computer_game) so that I could go through the request article process with some collected citations from news sources when the time came, but for some reason it seems to have gone live! (was it you? or anybody else? did my request work?). I have a conflict of interest. I've tidied up the page as it is (it was broken, incomplete and not ready) but rules being rules, the page should not be be edited by me. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DrMiaow (talkcontribs) 13:55, 10 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't want to delete this (and couldn't do so myself because I'm not an admin) but I did tag it as I was not convinced it showed sufficient notability. I can't see why it's now in article space if you didn't put it there - it wasn't me who moved it. As I'm not an admin take the following with a pinch of salt but FWIW:
  • If you don't think it's ready and don't want to leave it in article space you could move it back to your user space, or to the draft user space.
  • I do not believe that Wikipedia rules prohibit you from editing the page, you just need to be careful about neutrality etc. IMO you have been.

I have not deleted the article but I have nominated it for speedy deletion - an admin will decide whether it qualifies. I nominated it because the article is written in a promotional style and fails to show notability for the site in question. It appears it is not just me who thinks that - the article has repeatedly been declined at Draft:Pressker and Draft:Presskr for these reasons. Sorry I have reverted your nomination for speedy deletion of the above article. You are probably right, but after looking at their site (helping children build websites) I thought they deserve a chance. Best. MarkYabloko 17:52, 16 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The website in question will continue to serve its purpose whether or not Wikipedia has an article about it. However noble its aims, the site itself clearly fails Wikipedia's notability guidelines and the article is bound to end up being deleted very soon anyway. Unfortunately though, the consequence of removing the speedy tag is that deletion via AfD will be a more drawn out process and will necessarily be critical of the article; are you sure you've chosen a better option? Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. ... if you were to to me a favour, if you have the power, and delete the following two pages:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sorte_Slyngle (this even has a spelling error)

and

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Sorte_Slyngel.

Creating them was a mistake - I was trying to create a user talk page and change my user page. Shame on me, I should know better, but I blame it on insomnia. Cheers Sorte Slyngel (talk) 19:54, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't, but you can easily ask an admin to do it by editing the main page and replacing the content with {{db-author}}. I've already nominated the page for deletion as a test page so it will likely be deleted soon anyway. RichardOSmith (talk) 19:57, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
... in fact, it's gone now anyway. RichardOSmith (talk) 19:58, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The second page is still there. Whom should I ask? (I know, an administrator, but I've forgotten how to look them up as well. :-) Cheers Sorte Slyngel (talk) 20:07, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, that was superfluous. I'll try to get some sleep. Cheers Sorte Slyngel (talk) 20:08, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like it got missed. I tagged it for deletion too. You don't need to ask a specific admin to do it. RichardOSmith (talk) 20:11, 28 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I hope you don't mind, but I've gone and reformatted the automated messages on the user's talk page (which I didn't catch myself the first time, I'm also not very experienced at NPP). If they don't respond within few hours, I'll speedy it myself. It's likely not notable; but WP:BITE and all that sort of thing. Regards, Vanamonde93 (talk) 13:26, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I think you've done the right thing. I should have removed the talk page notice myself when I self-reverted the speedy nomination - thanks for fixing it! RichardOSmith (talk) 18:28, 30 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Article of Deletion: Kory Bard (Inquiry)

[edit]

Hey there, you recently looked into a page we've been editing under the name Kory Bard. We referred to an article on the site we wrote about the artist, but you noted that was advertising, so we edited accordingly so we didn't have any problems there. All content is notable & in the places you saw such as MTV, VH1, etc. you can not put your video on the site directly etc. You can submit and await approval which then in turn accounts for a credible feature. If you are no good of course MTV is not going to brand your videos & or music; so you must be approved which Kory Bard was through the MTV Artists Program which is in BETA. Another artist who has this credibility, for example, is Elle King (artist of Ex's & Oh's) who was all featured in the exact same areas as Kory was/ [KoryBard 1]

If you can please re-evaluate the page and let me know any further concerns you have and I will make sure to correct accordingly. Thank you Stokd (talk) 22:21, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The requirement for notability is, IMO, much higher than is being shown (see WP:NMUSIC). Wikipedia includes articles on people who are already notable; it is not a means of achieving notability. As you refer to yourselves in the plural you should also see WP:NOSHARING. RichardOSmith (talk) 23:15, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Richard, thank you for the message on copyright. I work for AbbVie and created the AbbVie Compound Toolbox website. I apologize for the unintended copyright issues. I have substantially edited the page in my own words now. I've also added more details and will add more structures as time permits. My only reason for creating this page was to try and make these compounds available to scientists around the world to use. I am grateful for you eduucating me on copyright and will ensure my future additions to wikipedia to do not have this issue again. Cheers Adrian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hyannisferryman (talkcontribs) 03:18, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like the article was deleted anyway. Given that you say you made changes you may want to approach @Casliber: and request a review of the deletion - however, given your WP:COI, it may be best to wait for someone else to write it afresh. RichardOSmith (talk) 10:39, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Hyannisferryman: is this AbbVie Compound Toolbox discussed in at least two independent reliable secondary sources? If not there is no point recreating it as it will be deleted. Cas Liber (talk · contribs) 10:58, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Richard Smith with due respect I noticed that your are only person who have some personal issue with Presskr but this is not the place for your revenge your personal issue according to survey, several time you place tag for speedy deletion even where other editor are satisfy with article. article is for Indian website that help encyclopaedia. Chrish1984 (talk) 14:44, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Exactly who is satisfied? It was posted despite being rejected at Draft:Presskr and has been deleted many times before at Presskr (which is salted to prevent recreation) and Presskr.com. The article lies about the site's popularity and is spammy, and continually recreating it is likely to lead to editing restrictions. There is no personal issue here. RichardOSmith (talk)
Also deleted as Presskr Classified and Draft:Pressker and Draft:Presskr (which has been recreated) and maybe some other titles... many editors have tagged it for deletion over the last six months, I have done so myself more than once. --bonadea contributions talk 15:40, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Excuse me Sir you can't say about site popularity even I cited source accordingly to alexa which mean site have sufficient traffic and more over you can check it by yourself, however if you claim your self wiki editor i can't find your any help during article instead your are just being Boss. even there is similar article which is in Wikipedia OLX what about this article sir. even i will appreciate if you show interest on the said article. OLX looks troublesome to me also - but that has no bearing on this argument. Although this is not an AfD discussion, WP:WAX is still relevant and explains why. RichardOSmith (talk) 16:52, 7 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You tagged this article for lacking notability. The article had been up for about 1 second, had an construction tag, and sufficient sources to pass WP:BASIC at the point when you tagged it. Perhaps you were unaware that it is usually considered courteous to refrain form tagging articles that the creator is actively creating? In all events, I am asking you to remove the tag - note that profiles in major dailies The Star-Ledger, Philadelphia Inquirer, about Christie began to appear back in 2010. I truly do not think that there is any quesiton of her notability. Still building the article. Cheers.E.M.Gregory (talk) 19:47, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Known only as the wife of someone notable I considered tagging to be the minimum action to take - CSD and redirection being the others. However US politics is a different game to UK politics; maybe my point of reference is different. There is nothing to stop you removing the tag and I shall not contest you if you do - thank you for discussing it with me first. RichardOSmith (talk) 20:27, 11 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please tell me what copyright infringement I violated when creating his page? He is a artist and I took his biography off his website, could that be why? Would you please un-delete it so that I may add references and continue to edit the page to completion?

Thanks Fielding90 (talk) 19:51, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yes that is likely why - you cannot simply take text from the internet and copy it onto a page in Wikipedia. The text in question came up at http://mikados.rssing.com/chan-1858778/all_p2.html#item40 but as you say it is also at http://markboomershine.com/about.html. If you own the copyright you could donate it by following the procedure at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials however this particular text is not written in an appropriate tone for an encyclopaedia so I do not recommend you do that. I tagged the item as a copyright violation but I do not have the ability to delete or restore pages - you would have to approach @Vanjagenije:, the admin who did delete it, so that you could continue working on it. Often an admin will agree to such a request and restore the page as a userspace draft but as this was a copyright violation and cannot be on Wikipedia I doubt you will have any joy in this case. It would be best to start again but any new article will need to show notability using suitable references - as an exhibited artist, this subject appears to meet the notability requirements just fine. I suggest you create the article following the procedure at Wikipedia:Drafts because that way you can work on it without risk of it being deleted. RichardOSmith (talk) 07:22, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Fielding90: It was me who deleted the page. RichardOSmith is not an administrator, so he is not able to delete (or un-delete) pages. He tagged your page for deletion because of the copyright violation. You copy-pasted the text from another Web site that does not allow that (see: WP:COPYPASTE). Wikipedia is a free encyclopedia, and it may only contain material (text and images) that is either in the public domain (author died more than 70 years ago) or for which the author gives explicit permission. But, the article was formally deleted because it lacked credible claim of significance. Only persons that are notable enough may have Wikipedia article. Your article did not contain any explanation about shy the subject person is significant. You may start the article again, but I strongly recommend you do it in the Draft namespace (like Draft:Mark Boomershine). But be aware that you (a) can't copy the text from other source, and (b) have to cite reliable independent sources to prove the notability of the subject (see: WP:42). Vanjagenije (talk) 10:02, 15 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Vanjagenije: @RichardOSmith:

Thank you, I will try that!

[edit]

Is crunchbase not a reliable resource for ikuku? Ma hai dong (talk) 00:01, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it matters whether it is a RS or not - all it says is that Ikuku exists (as a company of one - apparently yourself) and evidence of the company's existence still falls short of evidence of notability. RichardOSmith (talk) 14:13, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Editing War???

Hi, RichardOSmith I was not trying to get into any sort of editing war with you or anyone else. I was only trying to change the copy-vio into a proposed deletion. I am very sorry if you felt that I was somehow trying to disrupted as this was not my intentions.. --Mr.Luther34 22:00, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Well, yes, and I don't see understand why you are so keen to remove one deletion nomination from Honey 3 whilst adding another (they can both co-exist, and neither sets any precedent making one "better" than the other). You are right in your PROD nomination re sources, but also it is (was) a copyright violation and that still needs to be addressed. I think the best thing to do with the article is redirect to Honey 2 as that says just as much as this article, but there is still the issue of the copyvio in the article history which should probably be revdel'd by an administrator. RichardOSmith (talk) 22:06, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I accept your apology . Don't worry about it. I was upset at the time, because it seemed as you could barely wait until I had finished the article before you started placing the "hoax" and "Afd" messages on it. I always try to put factual, verifiable info on Wikipedia, and have been doing so for almost ten years. I have sent my scan of The Miracles Album Discography as an email to Wikipedia addressed to you . I hope this helps . Let me know if you received it. Thanks. Willgee (talk) 06:00, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have not received any email - nor would I expect to because the default Wikipedia behaviour is not to allow other users to email other users directly and I haven't changed that in my preferences. How did you send this email? RichardOSmith (talk) 13:59, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Taking what you have written entirely at face value you have admitted to meatpuppetry for which you could be blocked. The subject of the article clearly does not meet inclusion requirements. BC108 (talk) 10:40, 17 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@BC108: Hello Dear. Please check the citations properly as citation no. 3,5,6 provides the required information. I would like to tell you that Karan Doe is also known as Karan Goyal in his initial works. I've seen his work at lot of places but he's not getting the required exposure. So I request you to remove the notability tag, so that a good journalist can survive in this world. His work has been used in references of many wiki articles. Thanks P.S: I don't have any personals links with this guy.Abhaymahajan999 (talk) 12:37, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I checked the citations - there was no mention of Karan Doe in them. One had Karan Goyal, but it would need to be shown they are indeed one and the same person. The biggest problem is that there is nothing independent about Karan Doe himself - nothing that establishes him as notable rather than the subjects he is writing about. BC108 (talk) 14:43, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@BC108: Please do check the article again. The issue has been resolved. There was an independent article on the internet about Karan Doe. I would also like to tell you that in Punjab side, Journalists are not given much exposure. I hope you will understand this and remove the tags, So that this article can survive on Wikipedia. Abhaymahajan999 (talk) 15:03, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You added a new reference to ArtistMag. The admin of that site is Karan Goyal - if Karan Doe and Karan Goyal are the same person as you say, it is not independent. BC108 (talk) 15:09, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@BC108: Hey bro. I think there is a huge confusion about this thing. Karan Doe and Karan Goyal are the same person but the site artistmag.in is managed by a guy named Deepak. So I think this resolves all the confusions and the article can survive with your consent. Thanks Abhaymahajan999 (talk) 15:24, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

So, the name of the site admin has mysteriously vanished from http://www.artistmag.in/contact/ Was it, by any chance, you who removed it? Good try, but it's still here: https://web.archive.org/web/20160115090419/http://www.artistmag.in/contact/ BC108 (talk) 16:04, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
If you are not yourself Karan Doe / Karan Goyal, it was one heck of a coincidence that the name disappeared from that website the moment I mentioned it to you. Whether you are him or not, I'm really not seeing any notability and will take the article to AfD. BC108 (talk) 19:42, 23 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
