The Alouette Correctional Centre for Women (ACCW)[1] is an adult female, provincial correctional centre located in Maple Ridge, British Columbia, Canada.
Overview[edit]
Alouette Correctional Centre for Women is a 340 (FIGURE OUT) bed multi level security centre. As other multiple level centres in the province, ACCW operations will overlap throughout the 3 security levels, low, medium and secure.[2] As a provincial correctional centre, sentenced inmates serve a maximum of two years.[3]
ACCW currently has 115 correctional officers employed, with 95% being female. Due to the gender-specific policies, only female officers work with inmates, with the 5 percent of males having supervisor positions.[2]
Expansion[edit]
In 2012, there was a C$45 million expansion to the jail, which added 104 "secure custody" cells, the highest level of cell security which finished on October 2.[4] 55 correctional officers were hired.[1][2] The expansion was part of a C$185 million project to expand prisons and jails in British Columbia, and 340 cells will be added. There are nine prisons and jails in this project.[5]
