DYK update

I recommend additional links to the first item in the latest update as follows:

  • ...that the brightly coloured shells of the Liguus snails (pictured) are so prized by collectors that some varieties are now extinct?

I'm trying a couple of admins, so this change may or may not have happened yet. --EncycloPetey 16:10, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the note on my talk page. I'm happy something I added got onto Did You Know?--Opark 77 17:03, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

error?

The phrase (pictured) is in DYK twice Victuallers 17:41, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. They have been fixed. Most of the items I put on DYK are cut and pasted from the suggestions posted on Template:Did you know/Next update. I do some proofreading, but sometimes errors do slip past me. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:44, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
No worries, thanks for fixing it. Curt Wilhelm VonSavage 05:45, 15 November 2007 (UTC).

Half rotation thing

Well, I don't have a particularly storng opinion, but those articles did not meet the length criteria in a strict sense. If I put on a legitimiate entry, then they would not get their full run. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:35, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

If they do not meet the length criteria, why put them on at all? I do not think its fair either way. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:38, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, then we have empty space I guess. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:40, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Stingray Point Light may be a little borderline, but I think These Days (Powderfinger song) should get its full time based on how it has improved from 3 November 2007 to now. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:45, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually, SPL fails the minimum criteria and TD was a 3X expansion per the five day rule. But I wouldn't mind too much teh seond one. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:47, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Looks like we both got reverted. [1] [2] Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:53, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

If no one had raised an objection to the articles while they were in the queue, I'd be willing to let a little leeway be granted. But, when objections are raised by contributors to DYK, those need to be dealt with before selecting the article. Taking an article with a posted objection directly to the main page despite that objection is a bit of an end-run around the community decision process. IMHO --EncycloPetey 06:02, 16 November 2007 (UTC)
Agreed. I should have originally looked at the history WT:DYK and noticed there were objections posted to those two articles. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 06:17, 16 November 2007 (UTC)

Request

Hi, I've noticed you're a frequent updater of DYK. Not to cut in line or anything, but could I ask you to have a quick look at the November 16 Wedginald nomination? Panichappy (talk) 21:20, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

The article is currently below the minimum required limit of 1,500 characters of main body text in size. See Wikipedia:Did you know#Selections for more information. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 22:18, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
You're absolutely right, somehow I had managed to misread "150 words" for "1,500 characters"... Anyway, there's only so much you can say about a block of cheese, but I've tried to expand it, while keeping the content relevant, interesting and NPOV. Would you care to have a second look? Thanks for your cooperation! Panichappy (talk) 00:19, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I moved it to the DYK next update queue. However, remember that it does not prevent others from reverting it and posting it back to the suggestions page. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 01:08, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
I'll leave a notice on the talk page explaining why it was done. Thanks! Panichappy (talk) 01:47, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Hello. It's a little thing, but you have given Skrapion a nominator's UpdatedDYKNom when he really was the article's creator. (I was the nominator.) — Komusou talk @ 19:44, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

I am only looking directly from the list posted on Template:Did you know/Next update. Whoever posted those articles there only listed Skrapion's name.[3] Zzyzx11 (Talk) 02:25, 20 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, I guess User:Whoever was in a hurry and lost some luggage in transit from here to there ;-) I blame the long thread with three hooks merged into one. — Komusou talk @ 16:11, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

First, the image is tagged with no copyright information. Unless the copyright status is provided, the image will be deleted after Wednesday, 28 November 2007.
Once you fix that, you can read Wikipedia:Picture tutorial. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 02:50, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Well

you see3 the Image is from inside a copy of the book and the only thing i found close to that was "Book Cover" but i wasn't sure if that'd slide Tnu1138 (talk) 02:57, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

DYK request

Hi, I noticed that you regularily update the DYK template, and I was wondering if you would consider including the List of Grey Cup champions on Sunday, November 25 as it is the date of the 95th Grey Cup. Thanks, Scorpion0422 00:19, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

An objection to this article has been posted on Template talk:Did you know. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:43, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
I didn't think that really mattered because I've seen some articles that have existed for months that have been used. I withdrew the request. -- Scorpion0422 04:36, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
An article that has existed for several months can qualify only if it has been a stub for most of its existence, and has recently been substantially expanded. See WP:DYK for the full rules. Apologies for any inconvience. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:41, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Template:OnThisDay

Omagh Bombings

Hi, your AWB persists in removing the anniversary tag from this page. It is a significant date. Could you pleases desist? Thanks --MJB (talk) 16:53, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

These tags refer to the On this day/selected anniversaries templates that rotate on the main page. These messages were first placed on the talk pages when the templates was first established in 2004. However, they have not been maintained in the past three years, as new items on these templates have been rotated in and out. Therefore, a number of these articles still have the tag even though they do not apply anymore. As a result, I am removing them until there someone volunteers to maintain these messages again. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:00, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
And the Omagh bombing is one of those articles that do not currently appear in any of the On this day/selected anniversaries templates.[4] Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:03, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

What the ... on this day?

That is all! El_C 18:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

The On this day templates are fine and have been maintained consistently. It is just that when items are added or removed from them, the messages on the article talk pages have not. So you had something like the message on Talk:Omagh bombing in August where it said that the article was selected for "on this day", but when you clicked on the link, it was not there on the template. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:10, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Ah, gotcha! El_C 18:16, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, on this day I really enjoy how the AWB program completely stops when you have new messages on your talk page. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:21, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Mission accomplished! El_C 18:26, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Luckily I have about less than 30 pages to go, so I can probably go edit manually if push comes to shove... and most of them left are on archived talk pages (which is another reason why this tag is currently not efficient) Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:35, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Great job! El_C 19:21, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Gibraltar

Hi there. Why have you removed the {{OnThisDay}} from the Talk:Gibraltar? These are still important and celebrated anniversaries in Gibraltar. Regards, --Gibmetal 77talk 18:38, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Please read my previous comments above. Thanks. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:45, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: Template:OnThisDay

As I recall, that template was created and implemented to merge 366 templates into one (see here). While I realize that the new entries aren't being maintained, there's no real reason to discourage the use of the template and there's certainly no reason to remove the tag from appropriately labeled pages. --MZMcBride (talk) 19:32, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

As I stated on the Talk:Omagh bombing example above, I have a problem when a newbie clicks on the link to the specified OTD/SA template and finds it not there... and then wonders how us admin are not doing "our job". But if you are totally against it, feel free to revert. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:39, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Whatever you want. The only reason I got involved at all was to cleanup the Template namespace. Cheers. --MZMcBride (talk) 20:20, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

DYK/N

Hello. Apparently, the current admin at Template:Did you know/Next update is going to delete hooks older than 5 days from the plate, and there is a November 17 (disclosure, I nom it) and the illustrated Nov 18 on it. I thought that 3 days of "expired noms" were kept precisely because they were admissible? (Also, whoever moved those two expired hooks to DYKN forgot to login...) — Komusou talk @ 18:59, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

According to the DYK rules, the date when nominations expire is based on the date when the article was created or expanded, not when it was nominated. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 19:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
But the thing is, they *are* technically expired: the illustrated Madonna with the Long Neck was created on Nov 18, and Union Valley, Texas created on Nov 17. Someone salvaged them both from the Expired noms section (which I suppose is the reason why 3 days of expired noms are kept available) and moved them to DYKN – but this person forgot to login, and it seems the two expired hooks are going to be deleted on the plate for being older than 5 days. — Komusou talk @ 19:12, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Re: DYK

I'm sorry, I only refresh the template when it's glowing red, isn't that when it should be updated? east.718 at 19:21, November 24, 2007

OK, I was just trying to help out. Guess I'll leave it to the DYK vets then. east.718 at 19:25, November 24, 2007

DYK

Template talk:Did you know backlogged if you are available. Benjiboi 07:36, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Question - false DYK claims - reaction?

Hi - I know this may not be very high on your list, but could you have a look at this DYK case which you seem to have promoted to main page (and placed a note on User:geronimo20 as the orginator - when in fact, all he did was copy an existing article (instead of move it) and sell it as his own work (possibly not in bad faith, but...). The below is what I placed on his talk page when I came back on Wikipedia after a longer absence:

HMNZS Canterbury (F421)

When you change the name of an article (also known as a move), please do NOT do so by copying over the text! That effectively destroys the integrity of the history. If you cannot move an article because the target name already exist, please call an admin to help - he can move it over the existing name, and keep the history intact. Ingolfson 13:31, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Looking closely at the issue, you also violated the rules by creating this as a "new article" (by copying it over from HMNZS Canterbury (F-421)), then set it up to be published on the main page in the DYK category as an article "which you created or substantially expanded". This is incorrect, because:
  • a) the article would not have been valid for DYK (creation or x5 expansion within the last days before main page publication)
  • b) you actually REDUCED the article in scope and content (which I will yet revert, once I have time to look at it closely)
  • c) the text was and is mainly composed of research and wording that I (for the text) and others (for the technical data) did - and not your work. Heck, even the image is mine.
I am not quite sure what to think of your actions. They are certainly against policy and very impolite. Ingolfson 13:52, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Actually, the user who nominated the article on the DYK suggestions page was User:PFHLai at 22:15, 18 November 2007 (UTC) [5] The suggested article was then approved for DYK and posted on the next DYK update template by User:Carabinieri at 23:00, 21 November 2007 (UTC).[6] All I did was move the list from the main update page to main page DYK template,[7] [8] and tag all the talk pages accordingly.
Seems that PFHLai, or anyone else on DYK throughout the nomination process, did not realise that this may have a cut and paste issue. Then again, there have also been some recently complaints that fact checking and verification is getting lost in the process (see WT:DYK#There has to be a little bit more fact checking.) ... and I will admit I have been a little guilty of that as more people complain about DYK not getting updated frequently (see the discussion right above this one right here on my talk page for example). You see, most of my work on DYK has been basically moving the items from the next update template to the main page template. Since other admins are approving articles from the suggestions page, most of the time I have been assuming those items are valid without doing any double checking myself. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 16:21, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
The user I thought had done this wrong has contacted me to explain that he hadn't promoted it for DYK. I apologised to him in turn. All my own DYKs were self-promoted, so I sort of forgot that third persons can propose one too. Ingolfson 08:38, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Les Miz

In reference to your recent major edit to Les Misérables (musical)- I noticed that you said it was a copyright violation. I checked the webpage you mentioned, and it is indeed very similar, but it does not appear to be copy-pasted. Is it still a violation, or does it need to be paraphrased further to avoid such violations? — Yavoh 18:18, 5 December 2007 (UTC)

It does need to be paraphrased more because a majority of the sentences looks like they were in fact copied and pasted like the paragraph on http://www.lesmis.com/pages/about/story_5.htm. Right now, I am working on a replacement that hopefully I will post today or tomorrow. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 02:52, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:TheProducers1968DVD.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:TheProducers1968DVD.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. V (science fiction)

Thanks for the clean-up on the V (science fiction) page. I did the rough splits last week, but have been too busy on other projects and non-Wiki life. I basically wanted to just get things started anyway. Feel free to do whatever need to be done to this or the other V articles. Thanks again. - BillCJ (talk) 05:09, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Football Uniform Images

Forgive me, but work has been very busy, and I have been unable to do the fixes mentioned before you and suggested by you in a timely fashion. I have, however, fixed everything but updating the Vikings jersey. As we speak, I am implementing the change of the terms "home" and "away". They were remnants of the baseball predecessors, and, as a baseball fan, I did not know of the difference. Most of my information came from www.sportslogos.net, whose uniforms are not always up to date. The nonexistant alternates came from the fact that these uniforms were not available, and I drew what I saw in the shop. This is why I wrote for people to tell me. I'm glad that the issues could be fixed. Now, please restore the template to it's normal form. Thank you for the help. --Silent Wind of Doom (talk) 04:08, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

2007 Hawaii Bowl

Greetings. You deleted Image:EastCarolinaPirates.png from the article 2007 Hawaii Bowl. I used the layout from the 2006 Peach Bowl, which is a featured article. As far as I can tell, it has the same fair use as Image:UGA$!logo.png. Could you tell me what I need to do to get this fixed? If you could, please respond on my talkpage. Thanks, PGPirate 04:01, 26 December 2007 (UTC)

I'm also curious why you've deleted the logo from the 2006 Peach Bowl as well. It's got the fair use template on the image page, and I've expanded the image use information there to answer what I think were your issues, but I'm not sure. Could you respond on my talk page, please? I'd like to resolve this and keep that image on there when the article goes to the main page. JKBrooks85 (talk) 14:51, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for getting back to me. I understand what you're getting at, but aren't exactly sure what to do about it. That specific logo was introduced prior to the 2006 Chick-fil-A Bowl, since that was the first time that the bowl had that name. The 2005 game was the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl, and from 2004 and earlier, it was just the Peach Bowl. The logo we're talking about will be used for the forseeable future -- it's being used for the 2007 game as well. Now, what should I do to make that fact clear? I appreciate the help. JKBrooks85 (talk) 03:49, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Template:US county navigation box

Could you edit the code for Template:US county navigation box somewhat? Some New England and New York templates (you can see an example on the main template's talk page) display oddly because of the article's title — for example, the shire town of Rutland County, Vermont is entitled Rutland (city), Vermont. Could you make it so that it would display only "Rutland" instead of "Rutland (city)"? Furthermore, there's the occasional county seat that isn't the only place of its name in the state: as the article is named "CITYNAME, COUNTYNAME County, STATENAME", the template title has "CITYNAME, COUNTYNAME County" listed for the county seat. I'd do it myself, but I don't know much about writing template syntax. Nyttend (talk) 01:52, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:CHI 354.gif

Thanks for uploading Image:CHI 354.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:06, 2 January 2008 (UTC)

Caucus on ITN?

Zzyzx, I know this stopped almost 24 hours ago, but please, don't ever make that EDITWAR comment again. Especially as an admin, you should know how incredibly unhelpful that is. You should be trying to diffuse situations, not making puns and rhymes out of them. -- Mike (Kicking222) 05:50, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

You are entitled to your opinion ... but of course, if you have been an admin as long as I have, and have seen lots of content disputes that go on that page ... in all impracticality, it is quite difficult and almost impossible to diffuse an edit war on a page like ITN, which is normally protected 24/7 (so fully protecting it to stop an edit war under normal circumstances is not an option) ... that is highly-visible in which any admin can edit at anytime, anywhere ... where any admin via WP:IAR and WP:AGF can add something without ever looking at WP:ITN/C, Template talk:In the news, or Talk:Main page ... As User:RyanGerbil10 put it, "It's more like a repeated drive-by shooting with the Main Page as a target."[11] ... so I guess my frustration with ITN sort of boiled over. ...And I hate when anything is added without at least taking a glance at ITN/C, as I feel that the community should certainly have a say in what goes up, even if they can't put it up themselves. ITN/C, in particular, is where I think your comment was particularly unnecessary- not everyone in that discussion was an admin, and you could've explained the situation instead of simply compounding it.
Look, I'm not at all questioning your abilities as an admin nor an editor, as I doubt neither. (Rest assured that not only have you been an admin since before I even joined WP, but that I was aware of the fact before commenting in the first place.) In this one instance, I think you should have used a bit more discretion. -- Mike (Kicking222) 08:55, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3

Thank you for your support in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate, that landed on WP:100! I paid close attention to everything that was said, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. :) I'm also working my way through the Wikipedia:New admin school and double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools. My main goals are to help out with various backlogs, but I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are several more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status! Thanks again, and have a great new year, --Elonka 05:32, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Template help

Hello there, I was directed to you by Pats1 for help with a template of a WikiProject. I can't get {{WikiProject Indianapolis}} to include a Lists category in the Indianapolis articles box, they are just thrown under the Unassessed category. I have tried but I have no idea what I'm doing nor how to even go about fixing this. Your help is much appreciated! HoosierState 23:36, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Hey thanks so much, that was a huge thorn in my side! Just 1 more quick question. Indianapolis Colts seasons is a featured list, however I cannot rank it as a FL because it produces "???" in the project box on the talk page. So I just put it as a FA, I know thats not right so what should I do with it? Thanks again for that fix! HoosierState 21:58, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

15th anniversary of solemn day

PFLai asked me to check with you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Selected_anniversaries/January I added the 1993 date for January 25th. Could this appear on the main page? It is the 15th anniversary of the tragic and cowardly attack at the CIA headquarters during an attempted mass murder by a Pakistani madman. 15 is a number of years worth commemorating. It's not like it is the 3rd or 14th anniversary. Mrs.EasterBunny (talk) 22:14, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

January 21st is the 10th anniversary of the death of Jack Lord. Interesting but not as noteworthy as the CIA attack of the 25th. Both of these days, I know from memory and I don't remember too many dates. The Jack Lord date, I didn't know the exact date but I knew it was in January. Mrs.EasterBunny (talk) 22:17, 10 January 2008 (UTC)

1993 CIA shootings is OK. However, Jack Lord is a problem: Under the guidelines, births and deaths can only be used on centennials, etc. ... plus this article has been tagged with {{unreferenced}} since April 2007. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:58, 11 January 2008 (UTC)
I completely agree with your assessment. The Jack Lord date is fun and more suitable for a fan message board. Mrs.EasterBunny (talk) 18:07, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

To be fair...

You should probably remove one of the two TFA requests you just posted. People wait a long time for that page to open up. Marskell (talk) 17:21, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Both were first listed on the Wikipedia:Today's featured article/Long range requests page. Of course, there is nothing fair about having only five suggestions on the main page anyway... Zzyzx11 (Talk) 17:25, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Well, OK. It just seems a little uncharitable to others. Marskell (talk) 17:28, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it is probably best to only post one at a time on the main request page since others might complain too. Unfortunately, as soon as I removed my second suggestion based on your original comment, it seems someone else posted another suggestion. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 18:31, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
"As soon as I removed my second suggestion based on your original comment, it seems someone else posted another suggestion." That makes my point: people watch it closely in order to get their chance.
You can't really blame editors for chomping at the bit. I don't think having five is the problem; it's that a given five don't get cleared out quicky enough. The page should move more quickly. Marskell (talk) 22:19, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

Saints 1st rd draft picks FLC

You appear to be an active member of the NFL WikiProject. So I'm just letting you know that List of New Orleans Saints first-round draft picks is currently a FLC that still needs support votes in order to pass. If you feel it is a FL could you please show support. Thanks for any help in advance. Buc (talk) 12:45, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

Orphaned non-free media (Image:Seattle Seahawks helmet rightface.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:Seattle Seahawks helmet rightface.png.

You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 13:35, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

Replaceable fair use Image:KukarSuperBowl36.jpg

Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:KukarSuperBowl36.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. 98.204.112.111 (talk) 05:23, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your contributions, 98.204.112.111, but have you considered the benefits when you create an account? Anyway, I uploaded that fair use image during a time when both the policy and the enforcement of WP:FUC was less strict ... and I have not had the time to go back and remove those images that no longer qualify like that one. So thanks for help. Cheers. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:30, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, I figured it was on a less trafficked article and was forgotten about. And I haven't created an ID mostly out of laziness. Cheers. --98.204.112.111 (talk) 05:56, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Help

I assume you're an admin. there's a VERY uncivil member needing some reinforcement, User:DarkFierceDeityLink. He constantly is trolling, flaming, etc. A permanent ban might be needed. Rikara (talk) 21:45, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

Next time, if you want a faster response from an admin, it is very unwise to contact only one person who may be offline for several hours. For instructions on how to do that, see Wikipedia:Requests for administrator attention.
That said, please give me some examples on how this user is constantly trolling and flaming. All I see is that both you yourself and DarkFierceDeityLink are on the verge of violating Wikipedia's three revert rule on the Super Smash Bros. Brawl article, which would require both of you to receive a block. And apparently, you were reverted by more than one user. One gave a reason: "No examples. We had a big argument about this before. Check the talk page Archives."[12] And another said, "Unnecessary, especially since past discussions/edits make it clear that if we list some, people will try to list them all, and we need to keep clutter down."[13] Zzyzx11 (Talk) 03:49, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

You didn't see "moron" in one of his edit summaries? And once before, he called another user a "waste of sperm". -Rikara (talk) 19:38, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

THANKS!

Thank you So much for fixing the Super Bowl edit.

Every time I changed it, someone would change it back.

How do you put the little justification at the end, saying what/why you edited.

HookEmHertz (talk) 03:54, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for catching that little factual error--I came into the superbowl article because an IP who seemed to be editing in good faith received this warning, so I assumed the over-the-top warning was from a vandal and/or a major Packers fan. My mistake. Darkspots (talk) 04:05, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Stadiums infobox

Be really grateful for some help with this. Ta! --Dweller (talk) 15:24, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Please see the contributions at Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Football#Football_.22field.22_or_football_.22pitch.22_.28again.29 --Dweller (talk) 12:32, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
A suggestion has emerged in that discussion. It seems you're American, so may be able to help with my one outstanding query against it... please take a look. --Dweller (talk) 16:59, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Please make further comments on Template talk:Infobox Stadium since the template has been on my watchlist for the past few years. And no, User:Richard Rundle's assumption is incorrect:[14] Although I have made major edits to that template, it was created by User:RadicalBender,[15] who made it as a fork of another template he created. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 04:42, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

Since you're an admin...

Hi there. I also am an admin on another (smaller) Wiki, dedicated to a game (Gothic).
There's recently been a need of references in that Wiki (they aren't implemented yet), and thought I should ask here. Can you help me learn what templates have to be created in order to implement references? If not, could you at least point me to another user that could? Thanks!:-) diego_pmc (talk) 17:26, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Do you run your own wiki, use the Mediawiki software, and have admin access to the files? If so, you can install the MediaWiki Cite extension. You can also copy the templates listed on Wikipedia:Citation templates to your own wiki. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:24, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks

Thanks for the warning but I really do have to say maybe you should block me for 24 hours but also when people add the same stuff over and over again and they were told not to add it I get mad and yell at them and call them names like "moron, idiots ect" so I really think you should block me for 24 hours please. And I will promise you I'll try to control my anger. --DarkFierceDeityLink 05:19, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

I would prefer not to block you if you just follow some of the tips on WP:CIVIL#General suggestions, especially the sixth suggestion under "Reducing the impact". Unfortunately, because of the nature of Wikipedia, my experience has been that it is almost impossible to keep an article the way that one user or even consensus wants it because there is always at least one other user, newbie, or anon IP wanting to do something different, add trivia, etc. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 05:54, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
In fact, there is a discussion somewhere above here on this talk page, where, just like you, I have dealt with a user who keeps on adding the same stuff over again, and I have told them not to add it. But instead of calling this person an idiot or moron, I just keep on giving this user a link to the discussion/policy page ... and if he keeps on complaining, I just keep on copying and pasting the link to him until he gets sick of it and stops. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 06:04, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Well can you then please give that user a warning.--DarkFierceDeityLink 06:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I forgot to mention this, but unfortunately it is a talk discussion/guideline page that does not really fall under Wikipedia:Blocking policy#When blocking may be used. It actually falls under Wikipedia:Blocking policy#When blocking may not be used, which means I do not have the power to block and I have to find loopholes just as that one I just mentioned to get around it. Otherwise, I may get into a situation where either I myself is blocked, lose my admin powers, and/or the article is protected for a long period of time with "The Wrong Version". Zzyzx11 (Talk) 06:17, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I see what you mean I left a message on that user you could look at it if you please. Tell me if i did the right thing by leaving that user that message.--DarkFierceDeityLink 06:21, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
Probably best to leave an actually link to the talk page using Help:Link#Section linking (anchors) link this one. Zzyzx11 (Talk) 06:39, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
