This project originated out of some discussion at the Village Pump, when it was discovered that there was no real way to figure out the average watchlist size, or function for it, so I started this page. The purpose of this survey is to figure out:

What the average watchlist size is
If some general pattern or relation can be determined between edit count and watchlist size (e.g. $f(x)={\tfrac {x}{15}}+100$ )

To help out, simply reply with your watchlist size , and your edit count. It also might be interesting to see if there's a difference between sysops and regular users, so make a note if you're a sysop or perform another higher-level function on wikipedia. The survey will close in one month, on April 30^th.

I should be able to get a general idea after the numbers come in, with my good-old TI-84, but if someone better at making graphs and such would like to help out, it would be very much appreciated.

Results[edit]

There were 52 responses, 16 of which were from sysops. the bot was not counted, and user:Seacrhme's second count was used. All These numbers were based on the TI-84

Averages[edit]

The mean watchlist size was 999.5 The Standard deviation was 1730.2. Quartile 1 was 35, Median was 113, and quartile 3 was 1412.5.

Although it's probably explored in much greater depth elsewhere, the mean edit count of respondents was 7298.5, and the median was 4142, and the standard deviation was 8112.7

Correlation[edit]

Plotting the points in a graph wasn't amazingly effective. Any patterns that can be discerned would appear to have a low correlation (although the coefficients themselves aren't that bad, they're deceptive).
