Irum Fatima Turk[edit]

Introduction[edit]

Irum Fatima is social worker and political activist. She has contested three general elections of Pakistan from NA 17 in the conservative society of Harripur, KPK. She is standing against the patriarchal system of Pakistan and raising her voice for the women of Pakistan through his practical struggle. She is the chairperson of "Pakistani Hoslamand Network[1][2]" since 2004. She is working on Women Empowerment, livelihood, health, education, climate change and disaster risk management. She is the active member of Awami National Party (ANP) Pakistan[3]. She is currently the Central Voice President of Awami National Party (ANP). She has received many awards.

Education[edit]

Irum Fatima belongs to Union Council Pind Hashim Khan, Parhari, Haripur District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa[4][5]. Iram Fatima belongs to a landlord family of the Turkish tribe. Irum Fatima passed her matriculation examination in 1992 with distinction. Irum Fatima has the honor of being the only regular student of Haripur district who attended a regular school. Earlier, it was the custom in Haripur district that girls were sent to school till primary school, but the girls passed the middle and matriculation examinations at home. Meanwhile, Irum Fatima became a part of the Girls Guide Association[6] from the sixth grade. The Girls Guide Association has groomed Irum Fatima a lot. The Girls Guide Association is a big part of her social and political life. Which she always admits.

Social and Professional Career[edit]

Irum Fatima began her professional career as a school teacher. In 1993, Irum Fatima started her career as a school teacher. Eleven years later, Irum Fatima resigned as a school teacher and joined the social sector. In the social sector, he registered an organization called Pakistani Hoslamand Network[2]. She started work on Women Empowerment, Livelihood, Disaster Risk Management, Health, Education and Climate Change in rural and remote areas of Haripur. She also involved many women in the area. And stay connected to the social sector for about 20 years. Her organization worked in the earth quack of 2005 affected areas of Pakistan[7][8]. Due to work for earthquake affected, she has received Best Partnership Award. After-that, an issue through his organization brought him into politics.

Political career[edit]

In 2013, some women from remote villages in the Haripur area met Irum Fatima through her organization and said that they had a lot of water problems due to which women face a lot of problems. Therefore, Raja Meera and Golia Meera areas of Haripur [4]need water scheme and hand pumps. At that time, Irum Fatima's organization[1] was not working on infrastructure. Nor did the organization have the funds. But Irum Fatima will be worried about the problems of these women. And decided to do something for them.

She approached the Member of the National Assembly and the current Minister[9] regarding the issue of women. His executive director, who was leading one of his NGOs, replied that he would definitely give the water scheme to men while giving only vocational training to women. Because we get votes through men. By this time, Irum Fatima had become a well-known figure in the area due to her social work. This response of the Member National Assembly shocked Irum Fatima. Irum Fatima intends not to allow the MLA to win the 2013 general election. She thought that the weight of the men and women vote was equal.

She joined the ANP[3] through Mian Iftikhar Hussain[3]. In the beginning, she faced strong resistance from her father. But on the other hand, one of her uncles and her brothers gave him full support. According to her father, politics is not his way. The ANP was also reluctant to give her tickets at first. The ANP had no significant influence in the Hazara division. However, she contested the 2013 elections. She had the honor of being the first female candidate for the National Assembly from Hazar division of the KPK. After the 2013 elections, she joined the ANP regularly. In the ANP's 2014 party elections, Irum Fatima was made the chairperson of the organizing committee for party elections. The party elections were postponed due to the war on terror. However, Irum Fatima took the responsibility of holding party elections. Thus, for the first time, ANP party elections were held in Harpur district. She was later elected provincial president of the ANP in return for her valiant services to the party. She widely promoted the ANP's non-violent philosophy everywhere. She was so loyal to the party and so active in women's politics that she was made part of the party's election commission.

Thus, she played his full role in organizing the ANP in 31 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. In return for her services to the party, she was elected unopposed to the position of Central Vice President, the highest position reserved for women in the party. In 2018, Irum Fatima contested the general election from the ANP platform. She contested two general elections and one provincial election.

Haripur was given a university[12] during the ANP[3] provincial government. In addition, many colleges and schools were opened during this period. Thus, for the first time in history, an educational revolution was brought to Haripur. While Haripur has always been well represented in the National Assembly. General Ayub Khan (former President of Pakistan)[9], Gohar Ayub Khan and Umar Ayub Khan (Minister of State for Water and Energy)[9] are also from Haripur.

It is a great thing for a woman from a backward area to enter politics. Despite the lack of resources, fighting against colonialism is indeed the style of Pakistani women. According to IrumFatima, women should take full part in politics to achieve their rights. She is proud that in an area like Hazara, where personalities are valued rather than ideologies, she is constantly striving for women's representation.

Awards and Nominations[edit]

Because Irum Fatima has many social and political services. In return, she was given several awards.

  • In the sixth grade, she was nominated for a Gold Medal by the Girls Guide Association[6], NWFP. Which is a matter of honor.
  • She was awarded the Best Partnership Award for her social services.
  • She has also been awarded Best Human Rights Activist.
  • The ANP Award 2017[3] has been given to her in return for party services.
  • ANP Punjab Award was given in 2019[3].
