Jasminum multiforum/multiflorum

Hello, you recently put an external link into an article about the plant "Jasminum multiforum"[1]. Just for your information: I assume the article's title was a spelling error, it should read "multiflorum" as in the link you added. I've therefore moved the article to the proper spelling and created an entry at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion because I think the remnant with the wrong spelling should be deleted. --Cyfal (talk) 15:11, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Hi, thanx for the note. I read the talk page of deleted page.

  1. I personally believe an encyclopedia should have covered every notable basis covered (including modern Sri Lankan music)
  2. She's getting total of near 100,000 hits on elakiri.com and even more on TV
  3. It's true she only placed 5th in SSS, yet even there are issues about the credibility of the voting. But still it doesn't deny her popularity.
  4. About sources, I added ref at Daily Mirror articles and from Rhythem FM online(they didn't copied it from her page--too old).

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 20:21, 15 June 2010 (UTC)

Algirdas Butkevičius

I see that you removed the {{notability}} tag that I had added to Algirdas Butkevičius. In fact, after a quick google I'm happy to accept that the subject is indeed notable, but the article does not show this. Merely being a candidate for elected office (which is all the article currently states) does not necessarily imply notability per WP:PEOPLE#Politicians. If you remove the tag you should at least make some effort to demonstrate notability. Jimmy Pitt (talk) 16:37, 3 July 2010 (UTC)

Why my created page "Dasheri" diverted by you from "Dasehri".

Hello Vejvančický!

I first searched in Wiki about any old article at Dasheri and found no page. I found the word dasheri used at page Malihabad and List of mango cultivars. I edited the page List of mango cultivars and enabled the word Dasheri as a new page link. And from there onwards, I started writing this new page. Before that nothing exist as a page named Dasheri.

And not sure why you redirected my page "Dasheri" from misspelled word "Dusehri". I believe my page need to redirected from List of mango cultivars as it is explaining about a variety of mango. If you want, you can discuss the issue with User:Anthony Appleyard and please look into this concern and revoke your changes. Thanks. This is an old article, BLP Prod doesn't apply to it. Feel free to take it to AfD, where I predict a snow delete. Fences&Windows 02:52, 17 July 2010 (UTC)

Neelam Chaturvedi

I'm a bit confused by your edit summary here [2]. I BLPprodded the article as unsourced, and you've sourced it. So that's good. However, your summary indicates that you thought I might want to AfD it. I wasn't very sure what I'd done to make you think that. If the sourcing is remedied, there's no reason to delete it on those grounds, whatever mechanism we might use.

I then reviewed the article again, and wondered if notability was your concern. Is the lack of notability the reason you thought I might want to go to afd? The article shows she's an activist (but doesn't indicate her impact as such). It also notes she's president of "mahila manch" - but how significant is that organisation? We don't at the point have an article on it. If you think she's notable, can you put something into the article to say why?--Scott Mac 08:13, 21 July 2010 (UTC)

I wasn't sure in this case, but I have to admit that I tend to keep any sourceable information about human rights. I found out more about her activities, please check the article again. It is still a very poor stub but in my opinion it should stay here. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 08:48, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
It looks OK, if borderline. I think we need to avoid setting out with "I'm a deletionist who wants this gone" or "I like human rights material [or whatever speciality], I want to keep this". The problem with those mindsets is that the best people to identify non-notable specialist material are the specialists themselves. Better that you nominate the stuff that should go, than someone who specialises in deletions.--Scott Mac 09:27, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I don't care about the laughable deletionist/inclusionist concepts. When I remove the {{blpprod}} template from an article, I always leave the AfD remark as an option for possible watchers. You are quite right that any speciality should not be important for an encyclopedist - human rights are equally important as video game characters, you just have to cite reliable sources and prove notability of a subject. On the other hand, I can't help myself and I consider some topics more important :) Thanks for your interesting point of view. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 10:17, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
I my (pedantic) issue with your afd remark is rather assumed my interest was simply deleting the article, and that if I wished to proceed I'd have to use a different method. Actually, my reason for prodding was simply that it was an unsourced BLP. You'd remedied that, end of story. Why would then I want to afd it - unless my intention was to delete it and the means and reasons just a pretext? Hence, my remarks about "deletionism".--Scott Mac 10:30, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
Now I understand. I always search for sources and only if I can't find anything I propose an article for deletion. Perhaps I automatically assume that others do the same thing. They don't, of course, and you have full right to add the template without further searching. Sorry for the misunderstanding, I'll reconsider adding similar remarks. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 10:57, 21 July 2010 (UTC)
To be more clear, it didn't come to my mind that you simply nominate an article for deletion without considering possible benefits and losses for this project. I thought that you have tried to find out something about the subject and only then you decided to add the tag. We have different editing habits, that's all. Both methods (routine maintenance / searching) are allowed here and you are not obliged to search for sources. Again, sorry for the confusion. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 06:35, 22 July 2010 (UTC)

Ludvík Podéšť

Hello Vejvančický: I've created an article for Moravian composer Ludvík Podéšť. I'm not very informed about the constructivist movement (i.e. budovatelské písně, budovatelské filmy) in the Czech Republic. I thought you might be able to add some information and check the translation. Best regards. Hrdinský 18:24, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Hello Hrdinský. I left a comment at Talk:Ludvík Podéšť.--Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 15:12, 25 July 2010 (UTC)

Also, could you help with the reference to "trampská hudba" (cs:Trampská hudba)? Hrdinský 18:37, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

I've added a link to Czech Tramping (the article is poor, but it is better than nothing). "Trampská hudba" is a really significant and broad topic for the Czech folk culture in the 20th century. To be honest, I don't know where to start, but the Czech article looks good. It needs more refs, of course, it looks like a well written essay now. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 15:12, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for your contributions, and thank you for expanding my knowledge of this area of Czech music. You are correct about the masových písní; it was my careless translation. Do you feel a separate genre for budovatelské písně should be created in the compositions section? The best way I can translate that is "constuctivist songs." Do you have a better idea?
Budovatelské písně (Constuctivist songs)
  • Proměny mistra Štětky
  • Varta (1959)
  • Všichni jsme mladí for mixed chorus and orchestra
  • Zítra se bude tančit všude
There are also several additional songs list on WorldCat. Do you know if these are budovatelské písně or not?
  • Praha je zlatá loď; Author: Ludvík Podéšť; Publisher: Praha : Panton, 1958.
  • Jdi spát by Ludvík Podéšť; Publisher: Praha : Panton, 1958.
  • Kolotoč; Author: Ludvík Podéšť; Publisher: Praha, 1962.
  • Po kom to dítě je -Cha-cha; Author: Dušan Pálka; Ludvík Podéšť; Publisher: Praha : Panton, 1961. – Dušan Pálka. V parku se tančí / Ludvík Podéšť, 20 hlasů.
  • Varta ; Juchelka; Author: Ludvík Podéšť; Publisher: Praha : ÚDA, [1959]
Best regards. Hrdinský 18:31, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Hrdinský. I don't think it is a good idea to connect budovatelské písně with constructivism, as constructivism is rather a pre-war art movement, rarely connected with music. I would incorporate our subject into the scope of Socialist realism, it is more apt "art concept" (in my opinion). The translation of the term budovatelské písně seems to be a tricky matter. "Constructivist songs" is a bit incorrect, I think that "Socialist songs" is better and more specific. Unfortunately I can't find this book, it could help with the terminology. I'm not sure... --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 09:34, 26 July 2010 (UTC)

Vejvančický, Thank you for the Drejsl article. I enjoyed in very much. Nice photograph. I found a few additional published works on WorldCat. I also fixed a couple of other items. The word "choir" refers to a group of singers and never to a musical composition; "chorus" is the word for that. I must say that your written English has improved immensely in the past years. (-: Two libraries in my area have the book in question – unfortunately neither are not close enough. Best regards. Hrdinský 05:25, 28 July 2010 (UTC)

Nemeton and Viereckshanzen

As far as I understand it, "nemeton" was a Gaulish term used to refer to religious sites, no matter what they were. "Viereckshanzen" more specifically refers to rectangular ditched enclosures, which whilst they had religious functions, possibly had other, non-religious uses as well.(Midnightblueowl (talk) 15:28, 26 July 2010 (UTC))

Hi. I see you edited out my Jie Ma page. I am a newbie here and am trying to make sense of how to put up a piece on her because she is a noted pipa player, one of the few in the west. I hate being the newbie asking for this but is there any way you can give me a few pointers so information about her can be conveyed? Best, Pipalover (talk) 21:01, 12 September 2010 (UTC)

Have you ever considered...

...that you might make a very good administrator? I kept seeing your name turning up on new pages, so I looked at your edit history, and you seem to tick every box! Alzarian16 (talk) 17:07, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

My English is not good enough, Alzarian. An admin on en wiki should be able to communicate in English without Czenglish modifications :) Thanks for your message, good to know my contributions are useful for the project. Best regards. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 19:14, 4 October 2010 (UTC)
Hmm... I think you might be under-selling yourself a little. Looking through this page, its archives and some of the articles you created I don't see much evidence of significant errors. In fact I probably wouldn't have guessed English wasn't your first language if you hadn't mentioned it on your (well written) user page. We have other admins in the same position, such as Waldir and SoWhy. I won't push you, but I reckon you could do a better job than you think. Alzarian16 (talk) 20:39, 5 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your kind words. I'll think about it. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 17:11, 6 October 2010 (UTC)
Glad to hear that. Oh, and just in case my judgement is off, I've asked for SoWhy's input here. He's probably in a better position to comment on the specifics than I am. Alzarian16 (talk) 16:00, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
I did not check your contributions but I can assure you that it's not important to have English as your first language. I don't and so far I was able to work as an admin just fine (luckily, I wouldn't want to work on de-wiki^^). Quite the opposite in fact, your skills would allow you to help people from your own country better who really don't speak English. Additionally to Alzarian's mentions I'd like to point out other successful admins who are not native speakers, such as Amalthea (German like me), Favonian (Dane), Magioladitis (Greek), MLauba (Swiss) and decltype (Norwegian). You see, there is no need to be a native speaker, as long as people understand you. I think you manage that part just fine ;-) Regards SoWhy 18:24, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for your opinion, SoWhy. Of course I know that there are plenty of not native English admins, I just thought their communication skills are better than my creaky English. To be honest, initially I came to Wikipedia to improve my English and to learn more about the world. Only later I realized that I can help with my experience in the complicated areas such as NPP, AfD etc. I also learned that clear and uncomplicated explanation is often more effective than flowery language and superfluous trivialities. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 11:01, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
@Alzarian: Do you want to nominate me? Feel free to do so. ...I think my edit history is honest and my experience in the related areas sufficient. I admit, I made some mistakes, but in my opinion it is impossible not to make mistakes when you edit articles about all thinkable fields of study :) If I pass, I can help more. If I fail, I'll continue my usual daily editing routine. I'm not a very ambitious person. I enjoy working here, it keeps my mind fresh and I can help to keep this project strong. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 11:01, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Excellent. I'll have that up by tomorrow if that's okay. You might need to answer a load of "optional questions", so you'd better make sure you've got some spare time. Alzarian16 (talk) 11:14, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
No problem, I'll find the time needed to answer the questions. Thanks. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 11:38, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

hello..

Thank you for your response. Here is an article supporting mt existence as a guitar player and musician from the region I stated. Thanks again and please let me know if this supports my page and if u need any other information or where I can create a page that doesnt get flagged. This info was taken right out of a paperback book published by Cherry Hill Books in England.

this is the URL. http://www.cherryred.co.uk/books/book_rd_thrash.php

Cheers

Sven J. Soderlund

San Francisco Metal act MERCENARY became the stuff of folklore as the Bay Area Thrash scene developed almost mythical proportions on mainland Europe during the 90s. MERCENARY's legacy far outweighed their original achievements, the band having only cut one demo tape in 1986 and performed just two gigs. The original incarnation of the band- vocalist Sven Soderlund, guitarist Danny White, bassist Brooks Holland and drummer Slade Anderson formed in July 1985. The recorded 'Demo 86' in April of '86 and folded in the fall of '86. A reformation attempt was brought about in 1987 involving MORDRED guitarist Jim Sanguinetti and drummer Gannon Hall but after a miserly two live appearances MERCENARY imploded yet again in February of 1987. Both Hall and guitarist Danny White allied themselves with MORDRED. Following a spell at the Guitar Institute of Technology Sanguinetti would jump back to MORDRED too. Soderlund would go on to found MULTIPLY. The band bowed to pressure for a reformation show on November 13th 2001 at the C.W. Saloon venue in San Francisco and the Tidal Wave festival 2002 with plans to record this event for a live album. The MERCENARY 2001 line-up will consisted of founding members frontman Sven Soderlund and drummer Slade Anderson alongside erstwhile MY VICTIM and ULYSSES SIREN bassist J.R. Clegg and former HEATHEN, UTERIS, DOGFACE and current VICIOUS RUMORS guitarist Ira Black. The latter would join HEATHEN's live line up but would ironically be supersed by Soderlund in July of 2004. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MERCENARY biography from Rockdetector and the book "The History Of Thrash Metal : A to Z" | Credit/s: Garry Sharpe-Young | Copyright: © 2001-2004 Musicdetector Websites

Re: Thanks ...

Hi Vejvančický, You're welcome, I found the article to be very interesting! I wonder: does the generation have a Slovak name as well, or is it mostly confined to the area of today's Czech Republic? Graham87 12:29, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Slovak name is basically the same, they write the word děti (children) without ˇ (háček). The generation was discussed in the Slovak media, see Husákove deti. There is plenty of room for expansion. :) --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 12:40, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Is "Vay-van-chit-ski" sort of in the ballpark for the pronunciation of your name? :) Glad to see your RFA is going well. Gonzonoir (talk) 13:39, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes, your version is quite good, almost perfect. I'm planning to create a sound file with the correct pronunciation. It would be a hard tongue-twister for non-Czech speakers :) Thank you. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 14:06, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, would you please consider changing you English language level to '5'. Thanks. --Kudpung (talk) 09:30, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Hi, this is one of the funniest recommendations I ever received here :) Seriously, Wikipedia is a great online course of English! And moreover, it's free! One example: When nominating my articles for DYK, the most interesting thing for me is comparing my last version with the modification after the main page appearance. You wouldn't believe how well it does work. It's like a school test, fortunately without classifying the results. Sometimes I feel like a first-grade kid when checking my errors :) Best regards. --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 12:06, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Just saw SoWhy's section above, sorry. Basically, it's creating an account all over again, except that you then log out and never use the doppelganger. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 16:03, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
I'll never use the doppelganger. I've tried to create the account. The result was:

The name "Vejvancicky" is too similar to the existing account:

Please choose another name.

--Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 13:34, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, that's a check that should stop misuse, unfortunately, the account could still be created, for example through SUL. If your request is successful (which it looks like), you can then use your administrator powers to create the account by selecting "Ignore spoofing checks" on the account creation screen. :-) Regards SoWhy 14:13, 16 October 2010 (UTC)

Thank you :) --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 07:09, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
On a side note, you could consider a name change that would both make your name easier for people to remember and type and that would avoid problems with using your real name here. "AnVe" would still be available, as a shorting of your real name. :-) Regards SoWhy 20:12, 16 October 2010 (UTC)
Hmmm, I think it isn't so complicated to find/remember my name or contact me. I don't mind if people call me "V", "Vej", "Vejvan" etc. As for my user name, I've re-read and rethought WP:REALNAME recently and I don't think it could cause any serious problems in my real life. Each year I travel with my band over the dangerous middle and eastern European roads and the risk of "damage" is much bigger. I'll maybe change my opinion, but now I think using my real name here is rather harmless. Thanks for your advice :) --Vejvančický (talk | contribs) 07:09, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
