Copyediting
I don't know of any Wikipedia school for copyeditors. When I started editing for Wikipedia, I joined the League of Copyeditors (LoCE), which later went defunct in part because the instructions got too complicated for new users to follow. I gravitated toward the LoCE because I had had many years of experience writing and editing newspaper articles and other things, and I thought copyediting encyclopedia articles would be something I could do even before reading the Manual of Style. I know you have a professional editing background too, and I don't think there's any substitute for that. Our skills are hard to acquire and therefore fairly rare among a set of contributors that includes everyone in the world with access to the Internet. Frederick Manson White
You are quite right about Frederick Manson White. It is indisputable that White was a mysterious character, liar, and probable conman. I disagree about buildings being overly attributed to him. Most of Portland's official architectural history has proven to be wrong since the the archive of The Oregonian has been posted online and OCR'ed. McCaw, Martin, & White buildings in particular have been consistently mis-attributed to Whidden & Lewis, much like nearly every high style house of the relevant period and much like the mis-attribution of half of Lake Oswego to Richard Sundeleaf.
I would love to have a proper conversation about these issues sometime.

- I recently went to a lecture about William C. Knighton and the researcher was uncovering things previously unknown about/misattributed to him as well. And Ed Teague of the UO library Oregon architecture database thinks there are errors in Richard E. Ritz book on Oregon architects, especially the narrative about Edgar M. Lazarus. With OCR I'm sure much more will be revealed--though I admire those who still do their research using microfilm! I'm only an amateur architectural historian at the moment and I'm super busy in real life right now but hopefully I can follow up on this soon. Cheers! Valfontis (talk) 12:37, 10 June 2012 (UTC)

A quick look at your work on Frederick Manson White and other topics suggest we have more than a passing interest in the same corners & oddities of Portland architectural history. Interested to hear what you'd have to say about Knighton. (I was headed towards a lecture on him recently and got derailed somehow....) And would be delighted to talk here and perhaps in real life. - Did you see the note about White above? You should talk to him/her. The Knighton lecture I went to was probably by the same guy as the one you skipped, but it was here. I'm interested in Oregon architects in general but I'll be spending more time in Portland near the Yamhill historic district so I'm discovering all sorts of new Portland things. Including those big giant "U"s the fire department is putting on the unsafe buildings like the Temple. Yikes. I'm super busy right now but when things settle down hopefully I can focus on historic architecture once again. I've been absent lately, but WikiProject Oregon folks are the best. Credo Reference Update & Survey (your opinion requested)
Credo Reference, who generously donated 400 free Credo 250 research accounts to Wikipedia editors over the past two years, has offered to expand the program to include 100 additional reference resources. Credo wants Wikipedia editors to select which resources they want most. So, we put together a quick survey to do that:

Huntington, Oregon, Updating
I've had business off and on in Huntington, Oregon and ran up the Wiki on her for fun. Right away I noticed your hand from about six years ago and I was wondering if you'd mind if I updated a few things, especially that picture. I'll be trying to upload a couple I took myself from earlier this week, as they've cleaned up the place since the one posted was taken [grin]. - Welcome! Yup, thanks for asking but I don't "own" the Huntington page. The writing has always needed a major overhaul, in my opinion, though folks like Tedder have contributed actual facts over the years. And yeah, I'd imagine the current photo, though likely added because it was the only free photo available, doesn't really represent what the place is all about. The first pic showing the landscape and the train would be a great addition. Ask here if you need help changing out the photos, or at WikiProject Oregon, I get e-mails when this page is changed but unfortunately I don't have a ton of time to edit right now. - Did a couple changes today, the image and the typo noted in the talk page. I'm planning a trip there next month and I'll do some research at the museum, see if I can't dress out the article to the "Portland" standard. I have no idea how to verify the information though, as I can't imagine anyone publishing the fact that Huntington participates in both human social customs ... hunting AND fishing.
