Those drum articles are great. I think the best part may even be the youtube videos. It's hard to get a sense of instruments without seeing them in action. I nominated Ratanakiri for FA btw. Geographical Confusion

I see you followed my sakara chain from Nigerian drums via Finland to Georgian villages ... You may make me even sloppier than usual if I think you are checking. :~) But please do. Some comments / questions

• Should Zestafoni be split into two articles, one for the town and one for the region? I sort of prefer it the way it is now, but maybe technically it combines two subjects
• How trivial is too trivial on village articles? It is annoying when you follow a link and find very little information at the end of it. Some of these places have few web sources. If the small amount of readily accessible material is assembled, it gives a very fragmented view of the place. But perhaps there is an argument for making a start on all the places and hope they grow. Any thoughts?
• I suppose Fallingrain is not a reliable source. I think it mirrors Geonames - but that has errors too. Google and Bing have huge gaps, and a lot of inaccuracies too. They both mis-locate Zestaponi, for example, compared to a reliable looking map I found and the satellite view. Is there a better source?
• How do I get this image promoted from ka.wikipedia to Wikimedia commons when the Move-to-commons assistant says it doesn't understand the attributes of the ka. version? Obviously not important, but it is bugging me.
• I thought Dr. Blofeld hung out in the Alps, not the Himalayas?

RE: Seiyu

Hi,

I want first to restate that my rant is in no way directed you. To summarize it's internal strife of the anime/manga project.

Now about my position on seiyu BLP articles. It's obvious that the passing the GNG is most solid & durable form of notability and passing WP:ENTERTAINER a lesser form of notability (what a bad way to formulate it). While a seiyu article can stay on Wikipedia by just passing WP:ENTERTAINER, it clearly neither a satisfactory nor durable position in the long term.

The reality check that hit the anime/manga project hard is there are more than thousand voice actors articles and the number of editors able and willing to source them is less than 10. The second point that hurts is the over reliance by those article creators to unreliable sources like the Anime News Network user editable encyclopedia part so usually sourcing start from level 0 and help for sourcing from anon editors could among that same level. Third point the awful behavioral mimetism with the Japanese equivalent article: why should we source the article as they don't in the Japanese wiki, which is worth facepalms & headaches but that's also a reality. That why Japanese voice actors articles near always suck badly by Wikipedia baseline standards and thus are way more likely to be Prodded or sent to AfD. Those articles main contributors just provided the stick their articles are beaten with.

I'm aware that passing WP:ENTERTAINER is with just a sourced list of works is not the finality but given my situation I'm at jury rigging the articles to the Verifiability baseline standard. Embellishment can come later which currently among only to 2 GAs articles related to seiyu :(

About Albert Augustus Isaacs, I don't know much about him unfortunately. Qedarites is requiring a lot of research and rewriting to get it up to GA status and there are some edit-warring issues plaguing another article in which I have an abiding interest. Nigerian LGAs

Hello, the area, population figures come from [2] -there doesnt seem to be official figures online- where the spelling varies a bit I have researched these and I think I have all the official English spellings correct, many have variant spelings in Yoruba, Igbo etc.

I was about to start on the infoboxes but you have already done a lot- you would appear to be using coords of main town for the LGA which is OK; my approach to these LGAs is to consider them the smallest geographic area and to add anything about villages etc. within these articles. That page does have a lot of nice photos. Too bad theses aren't generally considered reliable. He cites a lot of useful sources, though some look like they're primary sources from archives. Dear Himalayan, Thanks for the nice message. Unfortunately, I can't spend more than a few minutes here and there on WP. 1) I don't have the time. 2) It makes me too upset. As long as loons or ignorant POV-pushing fanatics outnumber the educated and sincere editors, as long as the current lack of structure or oversight prevails, the educated and sincere editors will leave. It gets too wearing, and ultimately, pointless. I am sick of nationalism, communalism, ethnic rivalries, and obsessed fans.

It is possible to cooperate with people of different opinions, if they're reasonable. I remember fondly a Salafi Muslim editor (to whom I am an infidel) who was a big help. But that's rare. Zora (talk) 03:30, 8 February 2010(UTC)

Yes, that is my idea. Many contributors have posted 12 and 14 articles hook. I also did a four article hook some months back. I thought about this monastery as it fits in with the even a 19 articles hook. But some of my hermiatge articles are already large for a five fold expansion. That is the reason for my sugestion of the 15 artciles hook. Hello buddy, I need to ask you something. Shahid and I were thinking of creating pages for the Filmfare Award ceremonies similar to what is seen for the Academy Awards. Have you tried chatroulette yet? If you haven't, you need to! It's the weirdest thing I've seen on the internet in a long time. I'm not sure what my verdict is. I skip 99/100 people but I think I have good instincts for who will be nice. The details may vary slightly from one case to another (depending on how the list is laid out), but the principle is all the same. To wikilink Czech actresses, copy sections D-Z into Word. Press Ctrl-H to bring up the Search/Replace box. In the "Find what" field, type →    * ← (four spaces, asterisk, space). In the "Replace with" field, type →*[[← (asterisk and two opening square brackets). Press "Replace all". Now, press Ctrl-H again. This time, in the "Find what" field type →^p← (a caret symbol and letter "p"). In the "Replace with" field, type →]]^p← (two closing square brackets, a caret symbol, and letter "p". Press "Replace all" and voilà! All done; you can copy-paste the list back. The "^p" part stands for "paragraph mark", which is basically the end of the line in a Word document. OK, just realized that replacing all paragraph marks will replace some that do not need to be replaced. You also need to do a cleanup run, replacing →==]]← (two equal signs and two closing brackets) with →==← (two equal signs) to clean up the headers, and then manually delete all →]]← in between the headers and the first line of the list, and between the end of the list and the header of the next section. Still, it's a lot less work than originally (and half of it can easily be avoided by removing the blank lines between the header and the start of the list when compiling the original unlinked list). You know, I'm yet to see one of those trillions of yens I've been promised :)

As for the task at hand, I don't know how you did it, but here's how I would've done it. This is best done in Excel, not Word (actually, it's best done with the help of regular expressions, but I doubt you have the means; plus my regexp skills are rusty like you wouldn't believe it :)). It's all going to be a lot convoluted than a simple search/replace from last time.

Anyway, in Excel, you need to create a new spreadsheet with at least two tabs. Point to cell A1 on the first sheet and paste your list there. Make sure that each line occupies its own cell (or the rest won't work). I pasted the list you gave me above, so I have "1. I moschettieri del mare (1960)" in A1, "2. I mustri (1960)" in A2, and so on. Now, press Ctrl-H and enter → (*)← (space, open paren, asterisk, closing paren) in the "Find what" field. Leave the "Replace with" field blank and press "Replace All". That'll get rid of the years following the movie titles. Press Ctrl-H again and replace →*. ← (asterisk, period, space) with nothing. That'll remove the numbering in front of the title.

Now go to the second tab. In cell A1, enter the following (and be vewy, vewy careful... or no rabbits for you later on):

Now point the mouse cursor to the right bottom corner of cell A1 (it should change appearance to a small black cross) and drag down for as many cells as you have movie titles in the list (for your example above, it's five).

After that, select all cells containing the list and copy-paste it into a Word document.

Go back to the editing window in Wikipedia. Insert this to get the table started:

No, I'm afraid Word's search/replace tool is not so flexible as to allow replacing something that does not meet a specified criterion; it can only replace stuff that does meet some criterion. I'm pretty sure a macro can be written to do what you want, but it's been years and years since I wrote any Word macros. Sorry!

For this particular task, however, since most (all?) of the lines you want to get rid of start with "...aka", you can remove them via Search/Replace by entering →...aka*^13← into the "Find what" field, nothing into the "Replace with" field, and by checking the "Use wildcards" checkbox (which you'll see when you click the "More>>" button.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 18:39, February 18, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, I take the first part back. I don't use advanced Word features all that much and forgot about a useful one. I'm not sure I fully follow :), but the way I understand it is that on every line you want to replace "(1959)" (with whatever junk follows it, if any) with the table markup? If that's indeed what you are looking for, you need to do a search/replace of → \(1*^13← (space, backslash, open paren, 1, asterisk, caret, 1, 3) with the above table markup (don't forget to change ^p to ^13). Note that as long as the year starts with "1" (like "1959"), the above procedure should work. For the 2000s, you'll need to replace "1" with "2".

Thanks for letting me know. I've always found that particular editor "irritating". As if 5 star hotels in London are not high priority for WP:Hotels... Most of them are amongst the top ranked hotels in the world. Why doesn't he just try to expand them? While I agree that Hotels are an important part of Wikipedia, i I also think that there are not enough references on these articles, If you can find some other references to these articles and maybe some history behind each of them, i think it'd go along way to stopping their deletion. Las Vegas Composite Photo

I agree that the composite photo chosen was of excellent quality. Sadly, it didn't match either of the articles. The composite was a mixture of images of the Strip and the city of Las Vegas. It didn't seem appropriate to include images of the Strip in the article devoted to the city of Las Vegas, nor to include images of the city in the article devoted to the Strip. Re your question about the definition of the city of Las Vegas: Wikipedia itself is a good reference. The city is a governmental entity, and as such has an exact definition, with exact boundaries. Vegas montage

Please understand that most of what the world considers the strip is not in the City of Las Vegas. So including the strip is not appropriate in that article when it is placed there with the intent of saying that is in the city of Las Vegas. A while ago, I tried to get Las Vegas to be a redirect to something that was about what Las Vegas is to the world, but failed. The current dab page was the result. Your many requests

Hi Blofeld, I'm not ignoring you, I've just been very busy. Work is crazy lately--last week was pretty busy and one day I had to stay till 3am. Then I worked all of Saturday and a chunk of Sunday, Monday until 11pm, Tues and last night I took a break to go to the gym but then worked again till I went to sleep. Yesterday late in the day I got a new project on top of everything else that has to be finished by monday and will take 20-40 hours. Great!! The uploading of that woman's photos isn't so easy as you think. There is one coder at commons who has some sort of pre-beta tool for uploading batches of images, but I've never figured out how to get it installed. It's really complicated. There is no bot that uploads images like you suggest. Also, all of her images are super tiny. Are you friends with her pm flickr and that's how you got the high-res ones? Any uploading should be using the high-res ones. Also, she hasn't changed her flickr licenses, which while it can be remedied with OTRS on the image page, makes it so the existing flickr tools at least will not touch her images. So anyways some things to think about. I'll try to get that flickr tool installed on my laptop when I get a free minute. This weekend, probably not. I think most of them (in the US, at least) were uploaded from a federal gazetteer a few years ago, and have barely been touched since. You're right, I think, in that it's the IP edits and highly specialized editors causing the brunt of the problem. I understand what's going on - people know something about their hometowns, and they want to share it, but they don't know how, so they just put it out there, and then nobody comes along and checks it. And it accumulates over time. I do believe that the BLP problem is misdiagnosed. I seem to recall someone mentioning once that we really ought to be looking at school articles, as that's where kids who get bad grades go to badmouth teachers and accuse them of all manner of criminal behavior. Motul de San José

Remember that offer to copyedit? ;) Motul de San José is an article that I've been developing for a long time (I think creating it was one of my first edits way back in 2006) and I've come back time and again to expand it as progressively more information has become available - a trickle becoming a flood in fact, as the Motul de San José Archaeological Project started to publish its findings. Anyway, the end result is that it is a fairly comprehensive article but is badly in need of a copyedit, due to the way it has grown. Would you do the honours?
