Rhoda Lerman (née Sniderman; January 18, 1936 – August 30, 2015) was an American author. She was best known for God's Ear, [].

Early life[edit]

Rhoda Carol Sniderman was born, along with her twin sister, on January 18, 1936. She grew up in her birthplace of Far Rockaway, Queens, New York, as well as in New Britain, Connecticut.[1] Rhoda's mother, Gertrude, moved her to Miami after her father, an accountant named Jacob Sniderman, died when Rhoda was 13.[2] Sniderman studied at the University of Miami, initially focusing on geology.[1] It was there that she met Robert Lerman, marrying him in 1957.[2] When she was told by her advisor she could not go on field trips with him or with the male students, she switched her field, graduating with a degree in English.[1]

Career[edit]

Personal life[edit]

The Lermans moved around for several years to accommodate Robert's station as an officer in the Navy. They had three children together, as well as multiple Newfoundland dogs.[1] It was the dogs that initially attracted the Lermans to buy the home of the late New York Yankees manager Billy Martin, citing its area of 5,187 square feet (481.9 m2). They purchased the home in 1998 for $550,000 ($1,028,000 in current dollar terms).[3]

On August 30, 2015, Lerman died of complications due to thyroid cancer at her home in Port Crane, New York, at the age of 79.[2]
