Michael S. Black (formerly Michael Shamblin[a]; born April 13, 1980) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, and YouTuber[b][3] best known as being the son of Weigh Down Workshop & Remnant Fellowship Church founder, Gwen Shamblin Lara.[4][5][6]
Early life[edit]
Black was born Michael Gordon Shamblin on April 13, 1980 in Memphis, Tennessee to American author and dietitian, Gwen Shamblin (née Henley; 1955–2021)[7][8] and investor & trader, David Shamblin (1954–2023).[9][10] He has a younger sister named Elizabeth (née Shamblin) Hannah (b. 1981) who is the current leader of Remnant Fellowship.[11][12]
Career[edit]
Career Begginings & Remnant Fellowship music[edit]
Black began creating and releasing music for Remnant Fellowship Church under his original name, Michael Shamblin in the late 1990s. He released his first album entitled "Turn" in 1999.[13]
Black released his second album entitled "Find My Way" in 2000.[14]
Black released multiple albums which featured other Remnant church musicians and leaders throughout the 2000s such as "The Legend to The Treasure"[15], "Ring The Changes"[16], "All In Concert"[17], "You Amaze Me"[18], "Give Him Praise"[19][20], "Living Sacrifice"[21], "Glorious Day"[22], and "The Only Tree That Matters".[23]
On September 1, 2011, Black released the single entitled "Keep Your Guard Up".[24]
In 2012, Black released the single entitled "N.M.C. (No More Control)".[25]
On May 3, 2012, Black released the single entitled "Lately" with rapper D.P. featuring on the song.[26]
On March 5, 2013, Black released the album entitled "Golden Streets".[27][28] Later the same year on June 25, 2013, Black released a live album which was recorded live at Remnant Fellowship in March of 2013 entitled, "Life from Death Concert: Remnant Fellowship Passover & Resurrection Celebration (March 29, 2013)".[29]
June 23, 2014, Black released a second live album which was entitled "Deliverance: Live Concert" which featured other Remmant Fellowship musicians.[30]
On February 26, 2016, Black released the live version his song "Kingdom of Love" as a single which was performed live at Remnant Fellowship.[31]
In July 2016, Black released a cover of One Call Away by Charlie Puth.[32][33]
On March 7, 2017, Black released the single entitled "Hallelujah Revolution".[34]
Black has released two albums in which he described as "Viewsicals".[35] Black invented and trademarked the term "Viewsical" in 2006.[36] His first Viewsical album was entitled "Hosanna Symphony: The Battle of the Ages" which was released on June 27, 2014.[37] His second Viewsical was entitled "Voices" which was released on May 26, 2017.[38][39][40] Both Viewsicals were performed live at the church throughout the 2000s and 2010s before being digitally released.[41] Black would continue to perform worship music at Remnant Fellowship.[42][43][44]
After his mother, step father, and brother-in-law's death on May 29, 2021, Black and his younger sister Elizabeth stated in June 2021 that they will both continue to lead Remnant Fellowship and continue their mother's legacy.[45][46]
Departure of Remnant Fellowship[edit]
In November 2021, six months after his mother and step-father's death, Black announced that he would be leaving Remnant Fellowship and he and his wife Erin were filing for divorce.[47][48][49]
Post-Remnant Fellowship[edit]
After leaving Remnant Fellowship and divorcing his wife in late 2021, Shamblin changed all of his social media platforms to the name "Michael S. Black" in early 2022.[50][51][52] He then removed all of his Remnant Fellowship produced music and music videos from his YouTube channel and began producing music outside of the church movement.[53][54][55]
On October 19, 2022, He released the single on his YouTube channel entitled, "Down".[56]
On April 6, 2023, He released the song and music video on his YouTube channel entitled, "Too Much To Think On" (Feat. J. Pierson).[57][58]
On May 4, 2023, Black released a cover of rock band Self's song "So Low" from their album, Subliminal Plastic Motives to his TikTok account.[59]
In October 2023, Black privitized all his social media accounts and music videos as well as changing his YouTube channel name to "M3756".[60]
On December 9, 2023, Black created a new Instagram page over two months after deleting all his social media pages.[61][62]
On January 14, 2024, Black created a new Facebook page and TikTok account where he began uploading music clips.[63][64]
In February 2024, Black began a new YouTube Channel and re-released the song entitled "Down" on February 7, 2024.[65][66]
In a February 2024 interview, Black revealed that he now sees Remnant Fellowship Church as a cult.[67][68][69] Black also agreed that Remnant Fellowship inadvertently encouraged child abuse resulting in the death of 8 year old Josef Smith in 2003.[70][71][72]
On March 4, 2024, Black re-released his cover of Self song "So Low" to both his TikTok account and YouTube Channel.[73]
On March 23, 2024, Black uploaded a clip to his YouTube channel on his opinions about his younger sister Elizabeth's leadership of Remnant Fellowship and its other leader's treatment of church members.[74] The following day, Black removed the video from his channel due reasons Black described as "editing conflicts" and "poor wording".[75] Black also announced that he plans on starting a podcast in the upcoming future.[76]
Black revealed on April 10, 2024 that he had briefly left his mother's church movement in 2009 and 2010.[77]
On April 15, 2024, Black stated that he is "Determined to expose Remnant Fellowship for its cultish ways." and to "Make sure its [Remnant Fellowship's] doors are permanently closed."[78][79]
The Michael S. Black YouTube Series[edit]
On March 30, 2024, Black began hosting a YouTube series entitled "The Michael S. Black Podcast".[c][80] The first episode was released the same day and entitled "3/6 Remnant Fellowship Worship Service Remarks".[81][82] On April 1, 2024, the second episode was released and entitled "People Of Action Or Inaction".[83][84][85] On April 5, 2024, Black released a short to his YouTube channel entitled, "SCANDAL At Remnant Fellowship #RFScandal" in which he has stated that he will begin a multiple part series about what he described as "A story that needs to be taken out to the public at large.".[86][87] On April 8, 2024, the third episode was released and entitled, "Leak From Someone Talks About a RF Snapchat Scandal".[88][89][90] On April 13, 2024, Black released an update on the "Remnant Fellowship Snapchat Scandal" saying that the reports did not qualify as "abuse" or "neglect".[91] On May 6, 2024, Black released the video entitled, "Passover Recap. Part 1", which discussed Remnant Fellowship's views on Passover and Easter and how their views and beliefs differed from the Jewish traditions.[92] On May 9, 2024, Black released the video entitled, "In Case You Missed It- WTN 99.7 Brief Mention" where he explained how he was mentioned in a segment of WTN 99.7's radio broadcast which is based in Hendersonville, Tennessee where Phil Williams of NewsChannel5 spoke about his previous interviews with Black.[93] On May 11, 2024, Black released a short to his channel entitled "Lost his way or Escape?" which revolves around musician Brent Barcus, who is also a member of Remnant Fellowship Church along with his wife and children, and his participation in performing with Shania Twain on her residency tour in Las Vegas, Nevada entitled Shania Twain: COME ON OVER – The Las Vegas Residency – All The Hits!.[94]

Personal life[edit]
On August 31, 2002, he married his wife Erin “Elle” Frisby.[95] Together, they have four children.[96] They divorced in November 2021.[97] Actor and musician, Joe Lara became his step-father after he married his mother on August 18, 2018 in a Remnant Fellowship Church wedding ceremony.[98][99][100]
He currently lives in Brentwood, Tennessee.[101]
Black stated in February 2024 that the reason for his name change from "Michael Shamblin" to "Michael S. Black" was to distance himself from the Remnant Fellowship Dynasty and the Shamblin empire saying that his original last name has become “toxic” and “embarrassing”.[102]
