♣ Hello, I am Tangeni Amupadhi, a journalist since 1991, concentrating on the political economy aspects (especially about Namibia and South Africa). Investigative journalism has been the key tools of practicing this trade.

♣ He co-founded a business and politics magazine (Insight Namibia) in 2004. Editor and managing director (2004-2009).

♣ Editor (CEO and publisher since 2011) of The Namibian newspaper, the country’s leading and most influential daily newspaper.

♣ Nieman fellow (Class of 2007), Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard.

♣ Candidate: Master of Public Administration, May 2018, Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Education[edit]

He studied journalism at Peninsula Technikon (now Cape Peninsula University of Technology) in Cape Town, South Africa. His majors were political science, and newspaper journalism. In 2001/2 studied journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park, USA, under the Fulbright Fellowship’s Hubert Humphrey programme. He was awarded the Nieman Fellowship (Class of 2007) by the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard.

Career Path[edit]

  • Journalism career began at the Namibia Press Agency (Nampa) on 04 February 1991.
  • An internship with the weekly Mail & Guardian newspaper in 1996 turned into a staff job. He specialised in education, crime and human rights beats.
  • In 1999 Tangeni joined The Namibian newspaper where he covered mainly politics and investigative stories.
  • In August 2004, Robin Sherbourne, an economist; David Lush, an HIV-AIDS activist; and Tangeni started the monthly glossy magazine, Insight Namibia. The magazine was set up to fill a void in business and economics as well as in-depth journalism on politics and other current affairs. He specialises in investigative and special projects journalism, especially focussing on the interaction between business and politics. Tangeni is presently the editor of The Namibian, which he rejoined in April 2011.
