Curly Q is a song by American rock band Prince Daddy & The Hyena. The song was written by Kory Gregory and released as the first single from the band’s upcoming album. It is the first release to feature bassist Adam Dasilva. The song is dedicated to Tavish Maloney.

Writing/Composition[edit]

"Curly Q" is written about Gregory’s nephew, Royal.

Critical Reception/Reception[edit]

The song received positive reviews on social media. Brooklyn Vegan writer Andrew Sacher described the song as “a little more ethereal than the band's last album, and it builds to a crashing climax, fleshed out with some J Mascis/Doug Martsch style guitar heroism.”[1]

Release and live performances[edit]

Prior to the release of the single, the band performed the song at a secret show following the postponement of the Central Park Summer Stage benefit show with Joyce Manor, where the song was also performed.[2][3] Brooklyn Vegan hosted a Vans channel 66 stream with Kevin Devine followed by a live performance by Prince Daddy & The Hyena where the song was officially unveiled.[1]

Music Video[edit]

The music video for “Curly Q” was directed by Dom Vaughn and released on October 21, 2021. The video has a lo-fi camcorder look and features the band members playing and hanging out with clowns in a hotel room.[4]
