Stone Circle - British Progressive Death metal Stone Circle formed in 2004 under the original name of Obsidian, with Joe Ashwin (Lead Guitar/Vocals), James Pearce (Bass) & Sam Hill on drums, the lineup was then complete when Tom Skelton (Rhythm Guitars) joined the lineup in 2005, the performed local shows and recorded three demos (Swallow the Lies, 2004, Black River 2005 & Obsidian 2006). Then in late 2007 the band decided on a name change to the more suitable name of Stone Circle (highlighting their origin from the Cotswolds, in between both Avebury Stone Circles and Stone Henge).

It was clear by this point the band decided to continue, developing their sound into the progressive death metal that they play today. Also playing shows with Progressive Metal acts, To-Mera, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Skyfire, Haken and Octavia Sperati all in 2008. In 2008 Stone Circle recorded their first E.P (Parchment) under the new band name, with Dominic Young (well known for being the live sound technician for Sikth, and now permanently with The Joy Formidable). This was released through Record Union, and received high praise from the metal underground:
