Margaret Gillespie n. Duncan (12 Dec. 1841 to 1913) was a singer of traditional songs born New Deer, Aberdeenshire, died South Africa.[1]

She was a daughter of Elizabeth Birnie and William Duncan. She was married to James Gillespie, a slater, in 1867.

Margaret's brother, Rev. James Bruce Duncan, collected 466 songs (from 1905 to 1909) which were then compiled into a folk-song collection with help from Gavin Greig, The Greig-Duncan Folk Song Collection.

The main sources of the songs were her family and neighbours in her childhood, and others she met as house servant.
