.................................................................................... Eddie Chacon is an American musician best known as one half of 90s duo Charles & Eddie who had a major worldwide hit with Would I Lie to You? in 1993.[1] Would I Lie to You? won three Ivor Novello Awards in 1993 (for Best Contemporary Song, Best Selling Song and International Hit of the Year). Since 2011, Chacon has been working as a photographer.[citation needed]

Biography[edit]

He began his career as a staff songwriter for CBS Songs.[citation needed] His demo of "All You Need Is Love" fell into the hands of Columbia Records president, Mickey Eisner who signed him to his first major record deal. After working with producer Richard James Burgess (Buggles) he struggled to find his own voice. His LP was shelved after the disappointing performance of his début single, "All You Need Is Love." Meanwhile, his song writing career got off to a promising start. His first recorded song was the Feargal Sharkey (The Undertones) single, "Out of my System", released on Virgin Records in 1988.

Unable to let go of his singing dream, he moved to Miami and signed on with Luke Skyywalker Records (Luther Campbell). His solo record "Sugaree" (released January 1989, under the pseudonym Edward Anthony Luis) stalled when he began working as a second engineer on 2 Live Crew's controversial record, As Nasty As They Wanna Be. After a move back to Los Angeles The Dust Brothers started producing him in the hopes of signing him to their newly formed label Nickelbag Records. He was happy with the music but felt the project was moving too slowly so he moved to New York City and began working with famed rapper Daddy-O (Stetsasonic).

It was there that he had a meeting on a subway train with Charles Pettigrew (chronicled in Charles & Eddie #33 UK hit, "New York City"). Shortly thereafter, they were signed as duo Charles & Eddie by a junior A & R person at Capitol Records, Josh Deutsch (who eventually founded Downtown Records and RCRD LBL in 2006). The duo had four Top 40 hits in the UK ("Would I Lie to You" #1, "New York City" #33, "House Is Not a Home" #29 and "24-7-365" #38) before disbanding in 1996 due to the untimely deaths of Charles's father and sister. Eddie went back to songwriting and co-wrote, Save our Love, which went on to be one of six Top 20 hits in the UK's third biggest record of all time in England by a girl group, Eternal.

In 1998 Chacon wrote another Top 40 hit in the UK, "Searchin' for a Soul" (UK #28) recorded by Conner Reeves. In 1994, Chacon wrote a #1 hit in Scandinavia, "All It Takes" (1994 EMI/Medley Records) for the Danish singer Hanne Boel. Chacon eventually moved to Copenhagen, Denmark in 2001 to write and co-produce several chart toppers with Poul Bruun (discovered and produced, Gasolin']. In 2001 his former partner,Charles died at the age of 37 due to cancer.Together they worked on Hanne Boel's #1 record "Beware of the Dog" (EMI/Medley 2002), co-produced and wrote #1 album, Erann DD, Thats the Way for Me (Columbia Records,2003) and #1 single by Erann DD, "Didn't I Tell You (That I Love You)". In 2004 he wrote both singles on Hanne Boels #2 album Abaco (Warner brothers Records, 2004), "While You Were Out" and "Wonderland". In 2007, Chacon wrote Top 40 hit, "Preacher", taken from Hanne Boel's, Private Eye.

From 2008 to 2011, Chacon released three full-length electronic disco influenced records under the name The Polyamorous Affair, a duo he formed with his spouse, Sissy Sainte-Marie.[citation needed]

He started his first band at age 12 with neighborhood friends Cliff Burton (later of Metallica) and Mike Bordin (later of Faith No More). In his early 20s, Chacon worked as a songwriter for CBS Songs. He made albums for Columbia and Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew, both of which went unreleased, along with demos made with the Dust Brothers. After splitting with Pettigrew, he worked as a photographer and creative director,[1] and also performed in an electronic duo, The Polyamorous Affair, with his wife Sissy Sainte-Marie.[2]

On May 29, 2020, The Fader announced Chacon's return to music after three decades of silence as a singer, referring to him as a "low-key R&B legend".[3] Chacon released the single "My Mind Is Out of Its Mind" from his forthcoming LP, Pleasure, Joy and Happiness on Day End Records.[4] The project is produced and co-written by Solange collaborator John Carroll Kirby and distributed by Light in the Attic Records.[5] On July 15, 2020, KCRW premiered the album's second single, "Trouble". They wrote, "Eddie Chacon’s R&B pop exploits are both influential and legendary."[4] On July 29, 2020, The New York Times wrote about the LP, saying, "The album avoids the trappings of a throwback or revival of a bygone era, instead exploring the rarely glimpsed side of that genre’s themes of passion and heartbreak, sung by a bruised but wiser man."[1]

Custom House and former York Hotel,

https://cardiff.moderngov.co.uk/documents/s18318/Custom%20House%20Custom%20House%20Street.pdf "The site is located on the corner of St. Mary St. and Customhouse Street immediately to the north of the mainline railway, on the former East Canal Wharf of the Glamorganshire Canal, and comprises the Custom House and the former York Hotel.

2.2 The Custom House was built c.1845. In 1975 it was grade II listed for tis importance in the commercial history of Cardiff, despite extensive alterations and extension. In 1985 it was effectively internally gutted, altered and extended to the east along Customhouse Street, and a metal mansard roof extension was added. 2.3 The building is finished in painted stucco render with some bathstone dressings, with rusticated ground floor/pilasters, and roman arch headed window apertures with segmental/marginal glazing bars to double glazed timber windows. The building has been completely altered internally and currently has a now somewhat dated 1980s modern hipped Mansard roof. The building is listed as much for its importance in the commercial history of Cardiff as for its remaining architectural merit. 2.4 The York Public House (proposed to be demolished) is adjoined to the rear and western side elevation of the Custom House and is bounded by the main central railway line to its rear (S) elevation. The building is not listed and has been vacant for a number of years and is boarded and reported to have come to the end of its useful life, and to be derelict/structurally unsound. 2.5 The public realm surrounding the site is now looking dated with a somewhat random mix of paving materials, planters, benches, sculptural public art and cycle stands and barriers. 2.6 The Custom House is separated from the adjacent Open University building to the east (10.5m at the closest point) by the access road shared with the OU building. Customhouse Street now acts principally as a bus layby and bus only access in a westerly direction and with limited traffic flows travelling east. 2.7 The site is located in the Central Business Area and the Cardiff Central Enterprise Zone (LDP Policy KP2A), immediately to the south of the city centre commercial hub and north of the Callaghan Square commercial office area, in a highly sustainable location close to public transport and city centre facilities. The Central Train and Bus Stations are c. 200m to the west, Queen Street Station is approximately 900m to the east.

In the 1979 Welsh devolution referendum the people of Wales voted against proposals by the Labour Government to establish an elected Welsh Assembly. The plans were defeated by a majority of 4:1 with only 12% of the Welsh electorate voted to set up a directly elected assembly in Cardiff's Coal Exchange.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is a collection of museums based in Wales. It was established in 1907 when it received a Royal Charter as a "museum of natural science, archaeology, history and the arts". There are seven museums in total, with two in Cardiff, one in both the City of Swansea and the City of Newport. The other museums are located in Torfaen, North West Wales and two in West Wales.

The Museum's first mission statement was created by Lord Pontypridd in 1912 "To teach the world about Wales and the Welsh people about their fatherland", and its more formal expression in the Charter emphasised that the new National Museum was being instituted for the benefit of the education of the public, entailing the complete representation of many aspects of Welsh life, history, culture and nature.

has the largest public art collection in Wales, most of which is at the National Museum in Cardiff. The displays there contain Welsh, British and European paintings from the Renaissance to the present day, ranging from Tudor portraits and the French Impressionists to cutting-edge contemporary art. The range and quality of the paintings collection was transformed in 1951 and 1963, through the legacy of industrial heiresses Gwendoline and Margaret Davies. Their bequests of Impressionist and early twentieth-century British art find few rivals in the UK. Today the collection continues to develop with the support of the Welsh Assembly Government, charities, and many generous private donors. The purchase of modern and contemporary art is especially active thanks to the Derek Williams Trust. Some of the Museum’s most outstanding paintings include van de Cappelle’s ‘A Calm’, Renoir’s ‘La Parisienne’ and Francis Bacon’s ‘Study for a Self Portrait’.

https://champions-speakers.co.uk/sports-speakers/horse-racing-speakers/mark-pitman/ Mark Andrew Pitman, born in Swindon in Wiltshire (DOB 1 August 1966). His father, Richard Pitman, was a top National Hunt jockey turned racing commentator and his mother, Jenny, is arguably the greatest female trainer in history. Jenny has a full set of Grand National titles including winning the Aintree Showpiece – twice! She also won two Cheltenham Gold Cup’s, The Hennessey Gold Cup and the King George VI Gold Cup amongst many other races.

Mark worked for the legendary David Nicholson for three years before moving onto the fifteen times champion trainer Martin Pipe. He later became first jockey to his mother, Jenny, and the two of them had some top class victories including the ultimate prize of the Cheltenham Gold Cup in 1991. He was top jockey at the prestigious Aintree Festival in 1990 and rode around 300 hundred winners before retiring at the age of 26.

Mark became Assistant Trainer for three years to his mother, Jenny, during which time the big race successes continued. Mark then took out his own Trainer’s license in 1996 and having started with just five horses made an immediate impact when his first runner was a winner. The yard continued to grow and so did the winners. He trained National Hunt and Flat horses during his nine year career and trained over 220 winners including winners at The Cheltenham Festival and all the top tracks in the country. The Jenny & Mark Pitman Racing Club was set up in June 2008 with the aim to provide people with a memorable racing experience at a nominal cost.

There are 83 listed buildings in Llandaff, Cardiff, Wales. 2 buildings are Grade I listed buildings, Llandaff Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace. 5 buildings are Grade II* and 76 are Grade II.

Grade I listed buildings[edit]

Name Photograph Date Location Description
Llandaff Cathedral 1120 to 1869 Cathedral Close The current building was constructed in the 12th century over the site of an earlier church. Severe damage was done to the church in 1400 during the rebellion of Owain Glyndŵr, during the English Civil War when it was overrun by Parliamentarian troops, and during the Great Storm of 1703. By 1717, the damage to the cathedral was so extensive that the church seriously considered removal of the see. Following further storms in the early 1720s, construction of a new cathedral began in 1734, designed by John Wood, the Elder. During the Cardiff Blitz of the Second World War in January 1941, the cathedral was severely damaged when a parachute mine was dropped; blowing the roof off the nave, south aisle and chapter house. The stonework which remains from the medieval period is primarily Somerset Dundry stone, though local blue lias constitutes most of the stonework done in the post-Reformation period.
Bishop's Palace, Llandaff c. 1266 The Cathedral Green The structure is the ruined residence of the bishops of Llandaff. It is located a short distance to the south of Llandaff Cathedral. The twin-towered gatehouse is one of the few remaining structures. It has two towers and originally had two storeys above the basement, a vaulted archway, a portcullis slot and a great oak door with much decorative ironwork.

Trafford Athletic Stadium, also known as Stretford Stadium, Longford Park Stadium and Longford Athletics Stadium The track was originally cinder and was presumably opened at the same time as the stadium which was built in 1965. The synthetic (Tartan) track opened on 22 Jul 1975 and has been relaid once since then. Since 1992 the track has been managed by the host club Trafford AC under the name Trafford Athletic Club Stadium Management. Additional facilities include a fitness/weights suite. A new £1M clubhouse opened on 7th January 2001 although the official opening is planned for later in 2001. The stadium holds more meetings than any other in the UK. The track is also sometimes referred to as Stretford Stadium or Longford Park Stadium.

From https://champions-speakers.co.uk/sports-speakers/horse-racing-speakers/mark-pitman/ Mark worked for the legendary David Nicholson for three years before moving onto the fifteen times champion trainer Martin Pipe.

The Club’s horses have performed with great credit throughout 2009 and the feedback we have received from Members has all been very positive. We currently have around 220 members and this means we can give a personal service to our members which is very important to us. We have recently launched the Gold Club and this enables people to have more of a commitment and become an owner in a syndicate managed by Jenny & Mark.

Mark attends all the major bloodstock sales and has successfully been buying racehorses for over 20 years for many of the countries’ top racehorse owners. His ability to select top class horses, even when they are foals has stood many an owner in good stead.

MARK PITMAN, the former trainer, has made a shock return to Lambourn's Weathercock House Stables to work alongside Carl Llewellyn, the trainer there for the past three seasons. Pitman will be employed on a full-time basis following a meeting with Malcolm Denmark, the London-based businessman who purchased the stables from Pitman's mother Jenny when she retired ten years ago. When Llewellyn was headhunted by Denmark, who is the principal owner at Weathercock, to take over as trainer, he and Pitman worked together for a season prior to the latter moving to Spain, from where he has been running a bloodstock business.

http://sportsnewsireland.com/racing/racing_irish/list-of-the-declared-runners-jockeys-for-2017-aintree-grand-national/ 15 Feb 2009 He (Malcolm Denmark) started owning racehorses in 1996 when his father became ill, deciding to have a couple of horses with Mark Pitman, who himself was just starting out with a licence. Financed Pitman’s purchase of Weathercock House from the trainer’s mother Jenny in 1999, and subsequently employed Carl Llewellyn (2006-2009) and Warren Greatrex (2009-2012) as salaried trainers at the Lambourn yard. Pitman returned to oversee a few horses for Denmark at the yard at the end of 2015, while Flat trainer and former champion jockey Richard Hughes is the current principal incumbent. Denmark currently has the majority of his horses in training with Tony Martin and Willie Mullins in Ireland; Pitman and James Fanshawe look after his UK-based runners. His best horses have included Monsignor, who provided the owner with his two Cheltenham Festival wins in the 1999 Weatherbys Champion Bumper and the 2000 Neptune Investment Management Novices’ Hurdle, and the 2009 bet365 Gold Cup victor Hennessy. He has over 15 horses in training. No previous Randox Health Grand National runners

http://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/sport/equestrian/barraclough-has-passion-at-the-castle-1-2378518 "Mark, son of trainer-turned-author Jenny Pitman and former jockey Richard Pitman, told students of his time as a jockey – a career which saw him ride 300 winners, including a 1991 Cheltenham Gold Cup win on Garrison Savannah and a second in the Grand National in the same year. After leaving school, Mark worked as a stable lad for David Nicholson and as a second jockey for Martin Pipe – a position which lasted 18 months. He was then offered first jockey position with his mother Jenny and spent 10 years with her."

The DPAs say that their action plan will be reviewed periodically and the Article 29 DP Working Party will regularly consult business representatives and civil society representatives on their views regarding implementation of the GPDR.

The old Article 29 Working Party, whose members were the EU’s national supervisory authorities, the European Data Protection Supervisor (“EDPS”) and the European Commission, has been transformed into the “European Data Protection Board” (“EDPB”), with similar membership but an independent Secretariat. • The EDPB has the status of an EU body with legal personality and extensive powers to determine disputes between national supervisory authorities, to give advice and guidance and to approve EU-wide codes and certification.

CBS Studios were recording studios in London.

History[edit]

http://www.philsbook.com/cbs-Levys.html From https://www.discogs.com/label/270549-CBS-Studios-London The recording studios were originally established by Morris Lvy and Jacques Levy as Levy's Sound Studios in the 1930s. They were operating out of Regent Street and New Bond Street. By September 1964 CBS had purchased Levy's [[Oriole Records (UK)|Oriole Records. The studios were then renamed to CBS Studios. In 1967, CBS Studios moved to Theobalds Road, London. In October 1972 the studios moved to Whitfield Street in London. From 1984 the name was changed again to Whitfield Street Recording Studios, then later became The Hit Factory, London, then Sony Music Studios, London and in 2004 became Whitfield Street Studios when Robin Millar took over the studios.

http://www.cardiffians.co.uk/suburbs/butetown_and_cardiffbay.shtml In 1977, the Welsh Industrial and Maritime Museum was constructed and opened on Bute Street, in a declining portion of Cardiff Docks. The exhibits on the two floors of the Museum had been selected to illustrate how various industries in Wales, over a period of some 200 years, obtained power to drive a wide range of machines necessary for production. Some of these massive exhibits included a Water Wheel, Beam Engine, Steam Engine and the largest in the gallery, the Ventilating Fan Engine. External exhibits included a full scale working replica of Trevithick's Penydarren locomotive and the railway footbridge from Aberdare Station. The museum was relocated to Swansea in 2003 and the building in the bay was demolished to make way for new developments.

List of markets in Cardiff

Former markets[edit]

  • St David's Market (demolished to make way for St Davids 2
  • Bessemer Road Fruit Market

This is a list of crossings of the River Severn in Great Britain (including bridges, tunnels, ferries and fords), in order from source to mouth.

The Severn has historically been a very important and busy river, and has been bridged throughout history. The bridges that stand today are often of great historical and/or engineering interest — for example the world's first iron bridge, The Iron Bridge, built from cast iron crosses the River Severn at Ironbridge Gorge. The Iron Bridge is one of three bridges on the River Severn that are listed as grade I structures, including Bewdley Bridge and the Severn Bridge, which was opened in 1966. In total, 31 bridges that cross the River Severn are listed, either grade I, II* or II. Four bridges are Scheduled Monuments, including The Iron Bridge, which are nationally important archaeological bridges.

Many reaches of the Severn are prone to severe flooding, prompting the design of many unique bridges to cope with this.

1971 Ryder Cup[edit]

This was the last Ryder Cup team that included Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Lee Trevino, and was the final Ryder Cup in which Palmer played.

Founded by Bobby Jones and Clifford Roberts on the site of the former Fruitland (later Fruitlands) Nursery, the course was designed by Jones and Alister MacKenzie[13] and opened for play in January 1933. Since 1934, it has played host to the annual Masters Tournament, one of the four major championships in professional golf, and the only major played each year at the same course. It was the number one ranked course in Golf Digest's 2009 list of America's 100 greatest courses[14] and is currently[when?] the number ten ranked course on Golfweek Magazine's 2011 list of best classic courses in the United States, in terms of course architecture.[15]

It is a three-span continuous steel girder bridge with a centre span of 140 foot (and headroom of 44 foot) and two side spans of 130 foot each. The bridge is of dual construction, which means it is built in two separate parallel halves with each half carrying one of the dual carriageways. There are twin anchor piers of reinforced concrete which splayed as they rise to deck level.

Queenhill Bridge

The viaducts consist of 24 spans of 82 foot each. These also have to be of dual construction, each half being supported on a single line of columns all made of reinforced concrete. Initially only one carriageway was open to traffic and the other opened in the spring of 1961 when the bridge was completed.

The English Rock Ensemble (ERE) is an English rock musical ensemble formed by Rick Wakeman after the release of his third solo album Journey to the Centre of the Earth for the Journey to the Centre of the Earth Tour in 1974. The one member of the group who has been a near constant throughout its various incarnations has been Tony Fernandez. The first Rick Wakeman album to feature the English Rock Ensemble was The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table.

History[edit]

In 1974 Rick Wakeman put together a group of rock musicians, along with the London Symphony Orchestra and the English Chamber Choir for his live album, Journey to the Centre of the Earth. The line up was Gary Pickford-Hopkins (lead vocals), Ashley Holt (lead vocals), Mike Egan (guitar), Roger Newell (bass guitar) and Barney James (drums). This group become the English Rock Ensemble for the following Journey to the Centre of the Earth Tour. There was a change in line-up for The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table album, with Geoffrey Crampton replacing Mike Egan on guitars. The ERE appeared on Wakeman's album Lisztomania

By the time the No Earthly Connection album had been released, Gary Pickford-Hopkins had left the group, and Tony Fernandez had replaced Barney James on drums, and John Dunsterville had replaced Geoffrey Crampton on guitars. From then on, Tony Fernandez would remain in the group throughout its remaining history.

There was the original band out together for the 'Journey' tour, then there were a couple of personnel changes for the 'King Arthur' tour and then again for the 'No Earthly Connection' tour in 1982.

He explains the concept of the group and the change in line up:

How many incarnations of the ERE have played live over the last 25years ?

"Not that many. There was the original band out together for the 'Journey' tour, then there were a couple of personnel changes for the 'King Arthur' tour and then again for the 'No Earthly Connection' tour in 1982. There was another line up for the 1984 and that was pretty much it except for a few dates in the late eighties around Europe" It seems that, from time to time, you feel the need to play with a"classic" rock band, that you keep calling the English Rock Ensemble. Lately, you reformed one band. What inspired you to do this? "A need to return to what I love doing, playing with other musicians and playing Progressive Rock. I reformed the band with all new young musicians, except for my drummer, and we haven't looked back. We've played over thirty shows this year and plan one hundred for next year."
