About myself[edit]
Hi wikipedians!
My name's Thomas and I've used wikipedia for more than a year now. But as ideas as this one only prosper if everyone contributes I'm now going to try to do my part. I was born in de:Graz, the capital of the district of de:Styria in Austria and after spending three semesters abroad in Worthing (UK), fr:Pergain-Taillac (FR) and Munich (DE) I'm now back in Graz to complete my studies of de:Information Technology at the de:FH JOANNEUM, a university of applied sciences at my home town.
Real Life[edit]
Basketball[edit]
After having played for the school team and other various youth teams since I was ten I'm now playing my fifth year in the styrian basketball league as a center for the team de:Union Körner.
Travelling[edit]
Since my youth I've been travelling around a lot in Europe, mainly to the Mediterranean and Scandinavia. I'm trying to spend each year at least four weeks abroad as I think that real understanding for other people and cultures is only possible if you've been there yourself.
Reading[edit]
I'm trying to read as much as possible, mainly classics and well known books, but no specific literary genre. If the original language of a book is german, english or french I'm reading this version, otherwise mainly english translations. Maybe I'm going to feature a list of books I've read as I always wanted to keep one for myself (same with films as I'm a little cineast).
Music[edit]
I'm listining to various sorts of music, but no techno, rap, funk or things like that. To my favorite groups I count The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, U2, Simon and Garfunkel and Wir sind Helden, a german pop group of the Neue Deutsche Welle.
Cyber Life[edit]
In my childhood I spent hours and hours playing a diverse range of computer games, but as I started university and spare time got shorter I limited my use of the computer to programming and reading. My main sources for information on the net are:
- Telepolis, a list of four to eight daily articles concerning everything that is going on world wide, mainly written in English
- ORF.at, Site the Austrian public TV station
- Nba.com, Official Site of the National Basketball Association
- Wikipedia.org, I love both the German and the English article of the day
- Leo Dictinary, the, in my view, best English-German dictionary on the planet
- imdb.com, if you want to know something about any film, that's the place to go.
Wikipedia[edit]
I want to use my knowledge and interests to contribute to the following topics on wikipedia:
- Sports, mainly Basketball
- Information Technology,e.g. Process management, Performance Monitoring or Research and Development
- Places I have been, if possible including pictures
- Music
- And maybe doing some English --> German translations
