WikiProjects for Discussion (WPfD) is a place where Wikipedians decide what should be done with problematic WikiProjects. Items sent here are usually discussed for at least 10 days; then each WikiProject is either kept, merged into an existing WikiProject, renamed as a task force of an existing WikiProject, userfied, or deleted by an administrator, using community consensus as a guideline.
Introduction[edit]
Only WikiProjects will be considered using this process. Sub-pages of WikiProjects (where the project itself is not under consideration) should be discussed at Miscellany for deletion.
The undeletion of pages deleted after having been discussed here, and debating whether discussions here have been properly closed, is the purview of Wikipedia:Deletion review, which operates in accordance with our undeletion policy.

Prerequisites[edit]
Please bear in mind that:
- Nominating anything other than a WikiProject here will result in the discussion being closed early.
Notes for admins on closing discussions[edit]
- See Wikipedia:Deletion process#Miscellany for deletion page for a more detailed description of the MfD closing process.
- The process for the WikiProject for Discussion page is similar to that for articles, as outlined at Wikipedia:Deletion process, except instead of using {{subst:Afd top}} and {{subst:Afd bottom}}, you use {{subst:WPfd top}} and {{subst:WPfd bottom}}.
- If the decision is KEEP, remove the WPfD Header from the WikiProject page (be sure the WPfD Category is also removed), and put a link to the discussion sub-page on the WikiProject's talk page. The template {{oldmfd}} is recommended for this, like so:
- {{oldmfd|date= dateOfNomination |result= result |votepage= PageName }}
- After closing the discussions, move its transclusion from the Active to a wikilink in the Closed section of the page, and include the result.
- To archive closed discussions, remove an entire day's closed discussions from this page and place it in the relevant archive, creating a dated section if necessary. Do not archive a day until all discussions for that day and all preceeding days have been closed.
How to list WikiProjects for Discussion[edit]
Please check the aforementioned list of deletion discussion areas to check that you are in the right area.
To list a WikiProject for Discussion, follow this three-step process: (replace ProjectName with the name of the WikiProject, including its namespace, to be deleted)
| I. | Edit ProjectName.
Enter the following text at the top of the WikiProject you are listing for discussion:
Be sure to include "subst:", not just {{wpfd1}}; this is easier on the servers. Please include "Nominated for discussion" or similar in the edit summary and don't mark it as a minor edit. Consider checking the "Watch this page" box to follow the page in your watchlist. This will help you to notice if your WPfD tag is removed by a vandal. Save the page. |
| II. | Create its WPfD subpage.
You should see a prominent link to "this page's entry" in the new text.
Put the WikiProject's name in place of "ProjectName" and include a reason after text=. Check the "Watch this page" box if you would like to follow the ongoing discussion in your watchlist. Save the page. |
| III. | Add a line to WPfD.
Follow this edit link and add a line to the top of the list:

Because there may be many editors involved in a WikiProject (even an inactive one), it is generally considered civil to notify the WikiProject itself (which the above will accomplish) and any WikiProjects that may be interested in absorbing the project. To find such WikiProjects, look in the WikiProject Directory for any that may be related. {{subst:wpfd4 |pg=''ProjectName''}} can be placed on the talk pages of any WikiProjects that might be interested.
