Zenon Martyniuk (born 23 June 1969), also known as Zenek, is a Polish singer, songwriter and frontman of Akcent, one of the most popular disco polo music bands. He is called "the King of Disco Polo".[1]

Biography[edit]

Early life[edit]

Zenon Martyniuk was born on 23 June 1969 in Gredele, part of Podlachia (historical region in north-eastern Poland). His parents, Bazyl and Teresa, were farmers with farm of less than 9.88 acres. He grew up in a religious family – his mother was a Catholic and father was an Orthodox. When he was 9 years old, he got his first guitar from his grandfather. His uncle, Mikołaj, was his first music teacher. When he graduated from primary school, he started performing at ticketed concerts near his hometown. On one of an event, he has met Zenobiusz Gul, leader of Akord band. The vocalist of Akord had to leave the band due to military service and Martyniuk became his substitute.[1]

Music career[edit]

Then he was a member of the bands Centrum, Zenki, Orpheusz and Venus. In 1989 the Akcent (eng. accent/stress) was formed. The band name is a combination of polish words akord (eng. chord) and centrum (eng. centre). In 2014, the greatest hit written by Zenek – Przez Twe oczy zielone was released.[1]

Marriage and children[edit]

On 4 February 1989, he married Danuta Rolecka, whom he met 20 months earlier. On 1 August 1989, their son Daniel was born.[1]
