Arguments in support of PRC being moved to China[edit]

  3. Reliable English language sources (such as the NYT) mean PRC when they refer to the China of the present.

Arguments opposing moving PRC to China[edit]

  1. The geographical entity China is different from the political entity PRC (pmanderson oppose)
  2. NPOV.
    • If PRC is moved to China, then wikipedia is stating that China and PRC are the same thing. But what about ROC? This would imply that Taiwan is not a part of China.
    • If PRC is moved to China, then Wikipedia is stating that PRC is the legitimate government of China.
  3. China has multiple meanings. China (PRC) refers to present dominant political state of China. Wikipedia articles, unlike news media sources which are focused on the PRC of the present, readily refer to other meanings of China, such as China of the past, which is different from the PRC. China (PRC) cannot adequately capture the extent of subject matter the Chinese civilization covers. Merging PRC into China would bloat the PRC and constrict coverage of China beyond the PRC (including the ROC problem, but also non-political aspects of China).
  4. The term 'China' cannot be precisely pinned down therefore we shouldn't try to either
