Sector 12[edit]

Sector 12 is team of young people in Bangladesh who are working to make a visual archive of the living liberation fighters of Bangladesh.

Category : Mukti Bahini or Muktijuddho

Portrayal[edit]

After the 40 years of independence of Bangladesh, all her freedom fighters still alive are almost on the brink of their lives. And it’s only natural that most of them won’t be with us within 10/15 years. Sure the country will give birth to noble laureates, scientists, doctors, poets, politicians and artists in the coming years, but not one freedom fighter. Current generation is fortunate enough to meet these heroes face to face, but that would be impossible for the coming generations. And that is why documentation of these noble warriors became necessary and capturing them on videos has been a great medium so far. For more than 3 years a small group of young Bangladeshis has been roaming around the corners of the country with a video camera. They call themselves Sector 12. They been to Rajshahi, Khulna, Rangpur, Jessore, Chittagong, Magura, Keraniganj, Savar, Gazipur, Bhairab, Narsingdi, Dohar, Gaffargaon, Bhaluka, Sirajganj, Sandwip, Ishwardi, Tangail, Comilla, Sylhet, Chhatak, and Dhaka’s Paltan, Kallyanpur freedom fighter’s slam, Mirpur Residential for freedom fighter and Sher-e-Bangla Nagor’s freedom fighter’s Camp and captured video footages of more than 500 freedom fighters. Here it can be mentioned that the initiative have been featured first in the 519 edition of Chuti’r Dine of The Daily Prothom Alo on Dec 26, 20009 named as "Choloman Chobiete Bir Shontander Sriti" (The memories of the noble warriors on video) and then on March 25 in Ronger Mela of The Daily Kaler Kantho named as "Mukijodhdhader Khoje" (In Search of the Freedom Fighters). They want this initiative to continue because warriors are passing away. Many of the freedom fighters Sector 12 team did a video are not alive anymore.

Dream of Sector 12[edit]

Now it is their dream that a Micro bus will roam around the whole country with camera, light, sound and a team of 4/5 people, would stop at the Unions and Thanas and take interview of the local freedom fighters. Then the bus will go to over next Union or Thana. This journey will go on through out the year to cover all the freedom fighters of Bangladesh. The number of Micro bus can be increased.

Goal[edit]

Make a visual archive of every living liberation fighters and hand over the archive to Liberation War Ministry of Bangladesh or Liberation War Museum.

Necessity of This Project[edit]

In 1971 Bangladesh was liberated by the glorious struggle of freedom fighters. The freedom fighters risked their lives during regular and guerrilla warfare against Pakistani military. The upcoming generations of Bangladesh will not be able to see The freedom fighters, their national heroes. There are several unknown stories of the liberation war of Bangladesh, which are not recorded anywhere. They are now only in freedom fighters memory. These histories would lose with their death. It is all Bangladeshi’s duty to tell the heroic struggle during 1971 to their next generation. The young generation of Bangladesh must know the epic tale of liberation war in 1971 and respect the freedom fighters. This is what, Sector 12 is working for. Sector 12 want to create a spirit among people to give a tribute to all the freedom fighters and the martyrs, who gave their valuable lives for an independent Bangladesh. Sector 12 is run by a few numbers apart from any kind of political view. From this freedom fighters visual archive, the next generation will be able to see their National Heroes and know the true history of their Muktijuddho.
